I went with SunPower as they are a great company with a better reputation. However the sales rep. that i worked with misrepresented, no actually lied to me on a number of points. I was told my electricity provider had a set limit on the amount of output of a solar system to 5kwh. She then went on to explain to me after fighting with the electricity provider she was able to increase ours to 5.3. In addition as this limited the number of panels I was allowed she guaranteed me that if that limit changed we would be able to add panels. Well they changed that limit about a year and a half later so I reached out to Sunpower to find that they would not add panels but only sell me a 2nd system to the tune of another $15,000. In addition I learned that the sales person lied and it was not a set limit but a limit based on 75% of previous years usage. Here is where it gets rotten, i had moved in to this brand new home at the end of the previous summer so that 75% was based on half a years usage not including summer. I now find myself paying about $150.00 a month on top of paying off my solar bill with no way to increase panels short of adding a 2nd system austensibly "due to changes in technology". So I am paying a fortune for electricity each month when I total my solar loan and added electricity cost. Presumably the sales person did not tell me the truth about the limit based on 75% usage or I would have waited until a full summers expenses were included in that 75% baseline. When I reached back out the sales person was let go, you can only guess why and i was told that her guarantee that I could simply add panels was also a lie. My inverter and roof can for the additional panels Sunpower just refused to sell me only the panels. I hate to blame SunPower for the poor conduct of a sales rep but they have refused to help resolve the issue and ultimately she was their representative. They seem to only want to sell me an additional system that I cannot afford and should not have to. Almost forgot to mention the other issues I ordered the more expensive panels and was told that would take an extra 3 months. I was ok with that waited 3 months only for the rep to tell me that the permit was for the older model panels, so what did I wait three months for. Felt like a bait and switch. The next issue I ran into was I actually recommended Sunpower to my neighbor across the street. I obviously told him to use a different sales rep called sunpower and provided the new clients contact info in addition to going through the website for the reference bonus. In the end my neighbor went with sunpower but after numerous calls and emails no bonus for my recomendation. I really am and was disappointed repeatedly in this company. read more

Long story short, DON"T RECOMMEND, stay away from SunPower if you can. Regarding the missed NEM 2.0 deadline, we were aware of the deadline to grandfather in NEM 2.0, so we reached out to SunPower on 3/22. They assigned a Sales Consultant named Robert Smith to assist us. However, during our sales conversation, Mr. Smith was unhelpful and only focused on discussing his own interests, rather than addressing our questions and concerns. Despite this, we decided to proceed with the proposal because time was running out for NEM 2.0, and we believed moving forward immediately would increase our chances of qualifying. Unfortunately, Mr. Smith became unresponsive and essentially ghosted us. Despite frequent emails, calls, and texts to follow up on the status, he often seemed forgetful and confused about who he was speaking to and which case we were discussing. This situation made us extremely anxious as we feared we would miss the deadline. Mr. Smith displayed an indifferent attitude, suggesting that our application was not special compared to the large number of people applying for solar due to NEM 3.0 and he has over 20 emails in his inbox. I almost laughed. He repeatedly asked for information that had already been provided via email or text, and it was evident that he struggled with navigating his email system during our phone conversations. We clearly communicated the importance of NEM 2.0 and requested close follow-up, but never received any updates from him. Despite our continued efforts to contact him through calls, texts, and emails, he did not reply since April. Surprisingly, on June 7th, Mr. Smith called us and informed us that we had missed the NEM 2.0 deadline, but he was unsure why. He asked if we still wanted to proceed, which seemed rather ironic considering the circumstances. Given the experience we've had with him so far, it's difficult to trust him or have confidence in his ability to handle our project effectively. Now, let's discuss the site survey. The site survey was scheduled over a month later, and when I requested it, Mr. Smith instructed me to call the customer service number myself because he didn't have time to wait on hold for hours. Despite this inconvenience, I made the call myself. After the site survey was conducted, I tried to follow up with both our sales representative and project coordinator, but I never received a response. A month later, SunPower contacted me again, stating that they needed to perform another site survey because the first one failed to upload any photos. Given the multiple issues and lack of communication we have encountered, it is understandable to question whether proceeding with SunPower is the right choice. read more

Here is my one year review of my home solar installation by Northern Pacific Power Company. Technician came out and surveyed my roof and I submitted a history of my electrical usage. This was used to develop a proposal based on my needs and my roof environment. This evaluation was done at no cost or commitment to me. Based on their recommendations, we installed Sunpower 7.56Kw system, which included micro invertor on each of the 21 panels ( Sunpower model SPR-X22-360-C-AC). These panels come with a 25 year warranty. Also included was upgrading my main electrical service panel to accommodate the solar circuit. The plans from Northern Pacific were through and when submitted to building department, made the permitting process go easy with no issues. The staff both on site and when I called with questions about my order were very helpful and answered all my questions quickly and completely. There was a total of 21 panels installed on my roof and since it was installed twelve months ago has worked flawlessly. There was a $9,000 tax credit on my federal return that made this purchase more affordable. (I am told this credit will no longer be available after 2019!!) The previous twelve months I spent $2,500 for electricity on my all electric home. Since being changed to a solar account with PGE, my only monthly costs has been minimum delivery charge that varied from $4.76 to $5.26 However since PGE posts a California Climate Credit of $27.70 every six months, I haven't paid the monthly fee. But now I have my first annual bill with PGE or true up and I owe $389.60 for the electricity I have used from PGE for the whole year!! At this rate my solar system will have paid for itself in 11 years. However this is assuming PGE doesn't raise its rates. If they do, the value of using solar will increase and my break even or pay off time will be reduced further. It is worth noting my power use increased after my solar system was installed. This is due to my installing a 220 volt spa, otherwise I probably would have broke even. It wasn't until winter was almost over that I changed the temp settings to a lower default setting and only raised it before use. In conclusion, I am very pleased with my solar system and would urge anyone thinking about it, do it before the end of 2019. Northern Pacific Power was knowledgeable and professional from the technician doing site analysis to the plans department, phone support and especially the installation crew. SunPower workmanship gets a "F" grade, AGAIN. Recently SunPower came out to replace all the microinverters that were failing one by one - our system is less than 2 years old. After they completed the work, we inspected the roof for damage (SunPower has damaged our roof in the past). We were shocked to discover footprints all over our 21 panels - 48 footprints to be specific! The way the panels are laid out on our roof, there was no need to ever walk on them. Walking on panels can cause microcracks in the solar cells, reducing panel performance, which will continue to worsen over time. The microcrack problem is a known issue that is even documented on SunPower websites and SunPower Facebook pages. Here is a quote from SunPower "We do not recommend that anyone walk on the panels because it can damage the cells, which would damage performance". After discovering our panels had been thoroughly walked on by the SunPower crew, we called both the SunPower corporate and SunPower regional offices a week ago. However we were only able to leave voicemails since no one answers the phone at either location. No one has returned our calls. Our previous experiences with SunPower: Initial installation - damage to the roof and the roof leaked at the panel mounting brackets. SunPower did then come and remove the panels while the roof was fixed, and then SunPower reinstalled the panels. Reinstallation of panels - SunPower failed to connect 2 of the 21 panels. On our smart phone SunPower application, we kept getting error messages concerning slow data reporting. We kept contacting SunPower about it. After FIVE months SunPower figured out that 2 panels were not reporting, not connected, and therefore producing no power for 5 months. Data reporting issues resume - Again we noticed this on our smart phone application and informed SunPower. Eventually they diagnosed that the microinverters were failing, which was causing production loss. 1 1/2 months after we notified SunPower of the issue, they replaced all the microinverters and walked all over the panels. Apparently diagnosing microcracks on installed panels is not a simple thing, and production loss from microcracks will be small at first, but increase over time. So far since SunPower walked on our panels, production on our panels is down 6% over the previous year time period. While it is possible that this weather related, we think it is more probable that this is from 48 footprints of damage. read more

My solar panel selection and installation have far exceeded my expectations. I have never worked with a company and subcontractor in such a smooth and well-coordinated effort on a project within stated time and to the customer's satisfaction. In fact, Jim Sladeck, SunPower Representative, came that evening to ensure the panels on the roof esthetically looked good from the street and how satisfied I was with the installation and installers. After careful reviewing the electrical specifications of ten different solar panel companies and finance plans offered by six different companies, I chose to purchase from SunPower because the company mainly had the best critical electrical efficiency rating and temperature coefficient over a 20 year period, plus the best power for size and weight of its solar panels. I also had several discussions with Jim Sladeck, SunPower representative, about the number of panels, panel model, possible panel arrangement on roof, purchase plans, etc. He always got me my answers whether at night or over the weekend . Afterwards, Jimmy Bassler from Urban Energy, subcontractor of SunPower measured the roof for best panel locations. Next phase in the process was to agree upon the best panel locations and electrical conduit runs but keeping with a street appearance of the panels on the roof. Finally, a week after three iterations of panel arrangements with Mark Mendoza, also of Urban Energy, Jim Bassler and his team installed the 24 panels and inverter within 14 hours from start to finish, well within the 2 days I was quoted by Jim Sladeck. Before the installers left I was thoroughly briefed on the solar operation and was told that one of his team would be back the day the city inspector was going to come. Two days later, one of the installers was at my door at 8AM to prepare everything before the inspector came; which was putting up the ladder to the roof, opening connection boxes and other panels as well as fixing anything the inspector would want fixed on the spot. The inspector finally came and was done within .5 hour with no write-ups and said it was the best installation he had seen in a long time. Afterwards the installation man closed everything up and made sure I knew that the solar installation was operating correctly. read more

Sunpower Worst solar company to get things fixed. Sunpower Customer service is located in the Philippines Just and FYI. Not even had solar 6 months too and having big issues. Enjoy the read. Here is the Issue. On August 13th there was a power outage for 1 hour and Sunpower solar production is not going to SCE grid now since this happened. I call sunpower solar daily to have a tech come to do an actual Physically check on their equipment but they always say they will get a call back. That never happens. I have had SCE come out and Physically check their equipment panel. We also did a circuit breaker reset and still nothing going to SCE. Southern California Edison are stating it is the solar system(sunpower Corporation) and it must have something wrong with the actual components from sun power. Online it shows sunpower production. However it is showing it as far less than it used to on average which also is a sign of something wrong. SCE. Edison is not getting anything and that is the main issue. Actual component issue is with sun power not the local utility company. My bill has also jumped to almost last year's summer bill cost when we didn't even have solar. Need someone from Sun Power to come out to my property at 8364 telegraph rd, Downey ca 90638 and fix or replace what every blew out on there system that is still covered by the warranty. Keep getting the run around and promises that i would get call backs. Go figure no call backs ever and i call them daily to try and get a tech out to fix this issue. Maybe this review might help. Avoid sunpower if you can worst customer service i have ever had. SEPT 24, 2020 Here is the update after a month people were sent out yesterday Sept 23, 2020 and it is working now. So i am changing my rating from 1 star to 3 star there customer service still need a lot of work. It was something with the breakers and resetting them. We reset the breakers last month and it did not work then. However last week we shut off power to do other work on the house and we also washed the solar panels since there were ash from the recent fires. Some how when we turned the breaker back on and the panels were clean it started sending power to SCE once again. Don't know why it didn't work last time we reset the breakers. read more

After a long and hard research and comparison we have decided to go with SunPower. Reading some of the yelp reviews and the 3.5 stars ranking I was a bit worried but let me tell you it was our best decision. The entire process from my initial phone call to project completion and us using Solar took 4 weeks!!! That's it, 4 weeks. Amazing Upon calling SunPower using the number on their website (key is to use SunPower direct which is a division within SunPower Corp, don't use the 3rd parties) a meeting was scheduled with a sales representative. Steve Gross, the sales representative showed up on time professionally dressed and he also had a SunPower ID card. The meeting lasted around 30-45 min. Steve explained the SunPower unique technology, had samples and photos. Steve was very knowledgable, patience (I had lots of questions and Steve answered them all) and easy to talk to. It was clear to both my wife and I that Steve Gross is trust worthy, easy to work with and someone that cares about his and SunPower reputation. Throughout the process Steve was there for us to follow up, making sure everything done smoothly and to our satisfaction (late at nights, quick response time, weekends) Once we signed the contract (done electronically) a project manager, Ryan Looney, was assigned. Think of the project manager as the "go to" guy for regular updates, schedule meetings, inspections, permits, and most importantly the person that actually schedule the install date and the best team for the job. Ryan was awesome. Always keeping us in the loop, sending us updates on the project milestones, pushing forward with the city for permits, inspections and PGE approvals. Ryan assigned a great install team that finished the job in 1 days ! The system we selected was a 7.2KW system (20 top of the line panels) - mid size system. The initial prediction was that the install will take 1.5 days but the large team ( 5 people) lead by Aaron worked so hard and efficient that they were able to finish everything in 1 days to our satisfaction. Very happy! Don't expect your system to offset all of your solar energy needs--mine is predicted to offset a little more than 60%. Some days it does better, and somedays falls short, but averages out at 60+ percent. Air conditioners in hot weather are real energy hogs! I spent time researching solar electric power on-line, and was impressed with Sunpower's panels and the way they are engineered, which is well explained on their website. I also researched the company's reputation locally, and found it is by far the most often used company in Austin. Once I contacted the local representative for the company, I was impressed with James, who took as much time as was needed to make sure the system was configured to meet my needs and to be most efficient, given my roof-line, which is complicated, and taking into account areas which will be shaded certain parts of the day. James talked me out of adding MORE solar panels, because the cost wouldn't justify the extra power generation. I'm on a limited budget, and appreciate his honesty. The company representatives were available during every step of the process, and also able to proceed with the installation when I couldn't be home. The energy audit I had done was actually very worthwhile. It appears I can improve the energy efficiency of my system by following through with several recommendations they made. I recommend doing as much research as possible about solar energy, and how to improve the electric efficiency for your house--it will pay off in the long run, and help the environment. Also, in Travis Co,, you can get a tax exemption for your home solar system! I'm an older person, and I went solar because it's the right thing to do, but for a younger person, you'll see serious financial benefits over time! My system has been up just a week, now. From my computer, I can monitor hour-by-hour (or by the day, week, month, or year) how much power I'm using and how much solar power my system is generating. I'm learning from this, and hope I'll understand eventually how to get the most advantage from my system. read more

Go Sunpower. I'm late to the party but I have arrived. After extensive research I want to tell people do not fall in love with the sales person fall in love with the product. Sure LG and Panasonic make a good panel and others I cannot pronounce make a fair product but can you call LG or Panasonic for a troubleshooting warranty no! Your troubleshooting warranty is only as good as your installers business and installers come and go. Sunpower creates a complete system design from start to finish and backed by A 25 year parts and labor warranty on all solar components. I knew I was going with Sunpower but before I set up an appointment with them I got quotes from Vivint and Sunrun. Sunpower came in at a better price with a better product and the best warranty. Now my roof with additions rivals the Winchester mystery House. I told all sales people maximize solar production with placement. All companies have vastly different plans. Now for Sunpower I picked a master dealer from their website Sunpower by Quality Home Service in Fresno. QHS was fantastic working with my schedule. When their team arrived to install they marked the layout of my first agreed-upon Solar placement. After talking with their head installer and looking at my crazy roof with all the fire walk setbacks some placement changes could be made to increase my production. I am all in let's do that. Mother office at QHS (I think this is where the Master dealer installers status comes in) in real time contacted city permit department for design changes. I bet that was a pain. The end results on paper I got over a 5% increase in production for my 38 panel system and over 25 years at current PG&E prices that's around $4000. After getting quotes from several different companies we were reluctant to get one more quote, but we are certainly glad we did. We talked to Sunpower first on the phone and I asked the standard questions and got mostly the standard responses. One of the questions we asked everyone, was if there was any way to have an emergency outlet that could be used during a power outage (aka the grid is down). Every vendor hemmed and hawed and stated how hard that would be. Sunpower was the first that told us that an emergency outlet was standard with their inverters! Bonus! Steve Gross was the sales rep who came out, with a no pressure sale. He educated us on the panels, our options and of course jumped on the roof to make sure he knew the sun details (versus just relying on Google maps which most others did). We received a detailed quote live with him. When we went with them we received a project manager who checked with me almost weekly through the entire process letting me know status of permits, and other paperwork. The installation team did a phenomenal job in just a couple of days working around our crazy schedule and the dogs who like to sneak out of the house when they needed to work in the attic. A tremendously professional job! Doing the final walk through they also showed that they added a consumption meter free of charge that allows us to track on the web interface not just the amount of solar we are using but the total power we are consuming on an hourly basis. This has helped us find some energy inefficient appliances that we have slotted for replacement. Talking to our neighbors, we have yet to find another vendor who puts a consumption meter or Emergency power outlet EVEN when they sell Sunpower systems From start to finish they went the extra mile and we could not be more happy with the system. Having Freedom Solar install our Sunpower panels here in Leander, TX has been a seamless and easy process. The SunPower panels were installed on the December 12/13th of 2017 and we are enjoying watching online the generation of a large portion of our power by the sun - despite the cloudy, rainy days of the Texas winter. We have yet to get our first bill. We discovered Freedom Solar at the Austin Home and Garden Show in early 2017. In comparing the Sunpower Panels they represented to others seen at the show, they seemed far superior and subsequent research and recommendations bore this out. Freedom Solar handled everything, we just had to be around at the designated times for the initial post show sales contact (which we thought would be a face-to-face meeting, but which turned out to be a phone conversation - small hiccup) and on the day that the installation started. (Another small hiccup - when they didn't show up by 2 hours after the expected arrival time, I called and my project manager, Ben, got back to me right away apologizing for the fact that they weren't there. There had been some problem and they were unable to get to us that day, but he assured me they would be here the next day - which they were - right on time. The combination of the 2 small hiccups in scheduling account for my 4 instead of 5 star rating. I've called it to Freedom Solar's attention with the recommendation that they work on their internal scheduling systems.) We went with the recommended number of panels to cover 80% of our annual electricity consumption, and so far that seems to be working out fine. When the bill comes, we'll see. We would strongly recommend both Freedom Solar and SunPower to friends and family - once we have some more data. Hope this helps others in their decision making process. We've had our SunPower solar for almost a year now and it's been an amazing experience. Their products are far superior to any that I could find to research and compare against them and they chose the right company in Michigan to sell, install and maintain after the sale in Oak Electric. Jamison has been the best to work with even after the sale as I've had a couple minor items that have come up, not related to SunPower that he has always been more than willing to make the trip north to us and help us work through. I researched solar for over 18 months and just could never find a reason to chose anyone but the SunPower panels. More efficient product with far less degradation over time and the warranty simply can't be touched, including a guarantee on the panel efficiency for 25 years. Sure, you can save a little bit in the short run by going with an inferior product but it's simply not worth it in the long run. The finance options may have been from my installer, not sure about that, but be sure you research options there as well since interest can take away some of the benefits of the savings you should reep. Why did we make the jump? We are a small upstart farm raising and incubating ostrich as well as other poultry and our electric bills were out of control. Our single largest expense, especially in the summer and likely would have determined whether we stayed in business long enough to scale our other expenses appropriately. I'm thankful for the choice we made and for the products that SunPower provides backed by the best warranty as well as the service we get from Oak Electric. Over the last 6 years I have worked with quite a few installation companies that were all pretty much offering the same conventional solar products. Some of which are no longer in business and after becoming a SunPower dealer, I know why... When I install a SunPower system on a homeowners roof, I know I can sleep easy knowing that their system was designed and engineered specifically for their roof, all backed by one company for 25 years. That just isn't the case when it comes to any other solar brand on the market. Most standard, conventional systems are installed with components from many different manufactures with separate warranties. This gets super tricky for the customer and also for the solar consultant. A lot of homeowners also don't have enough space on their roof for conventional panels to offset their electrical consumption but with a 400-415 or 420 Watt A series SunPower Equinox system that's again designed, specified and engineered by one company, my customers are able to enjoy true energy independence that generates 60% more power in less space with 70% less visible components. Another major factor as a SunPower dealer is the entire backend team who really works so hard for our customers to make sure every part of the solar installation process is covered and no milestone is ever over looked. It's so refreshing to work with a people that really like what they do and are also so good at it! So many of my customers tell me that this was way easier than they had thought it was going to be and had they'd know they would of done this years ago. Stop waiting! We had 180 SunPower 360 solar panels installed in late 2016 at our home in Palm Springs, CA. Since April this year we have had numerous issues with the SunPower app that was provided to monitor our production. There is a error message on the app indicating SunPower is aware of the problem and will be fixed within 24 to 48 hours. Well, almost 4 months and still not working and no direct response from anyone at SunPower. It appears from other reviews customer service is an issue at SunPower. Before going with SunPower check out other panels such as Panasonic or LG. All the solar companies want you business up front but how many will really provide the customer service after installation with a contractor that stands bA 25 year warranty is worthless if you don't know if your panels are working correctly, what you actual production is generated and if the company can't solve your issues. Not a happy customer! ---------------------------------------------- A year later 8/19/19 and still more problems and issues. Numerous visits by SunPower personnel to our property since last year and many calls and emails. Bottom line still communication issues and low production. 3 conclusions: 1. SunPower techs and engineers are not trained or just not competent. 2. SunPower product does not perform as advertised and 25 year warranty doesn't mean anything. 3. SunPower knows the problem but either cannot or will not fix it properly. Don't know the answer to the conclusions but patience has run out. Time to find out! First off, I wanted to say that my SunPower Solar System has been working perfectly since day one after moving into my new home back in October 2020! I have since been monitoring it very happily almost every day using the MySunPower App. and have never had a problem since the day they came out to activate my SunPower System. I recently had to travel overseas to India and shortly after returning home, I noticed that my SunPower PVS was turned off and that my Solar System was not producing energy. I contacted SunPower and worked with them earnestly for hours to troubleshoot the system over the phone, but was unsuccessful and left anxious and disappointed as my system was still not functioning properly or producing energy. They finally arranged an appointment for a SunPower Technician to come out three weeks later (yesterday), and it turned out to be this Commissioning Technician named Warren Grennan! Warren was excellent from the moment he arrived at my driveway for the service appointment... He was friendly, professional, and courteous with me and even my dog! He took control of the situation right away and assured me that he would have my system up and running within the hour and that he would verify this with me on the MySunPower App. along with his resources as well. Not only did he deliver on this promise but he even stayed longer than necessary to make sure that we were able to work through multiple issues that I was having with the MySunPower Application before I was able to log back in successfully and start monitoring my system again! read more

after several inquiries on how we could utilize solar power and get the warranty we needed, the choice went to ProVoltz, Inc of Campbell, California. Much of this was due to our many questions answered by Chadwick Strum, General Manager. Their company is a SunPower Elite Dealer which enables us to ask for many types of panel and inverter combinations. We chose the smaller SPR-X20-250-BLK-A-AC solar panels over the larger X20-327 or X21-335 because of several flexible features. The overall length of 20 panels of X20-250 is the same length as 16 of the X21-335, but delivers virtually the same output and at several thousand $ less. I have an electric car, and due to SunPower's inadequacies, I've had to foot a $400 bill because the solar panels, for which I've already paid, aren't working. SunPower was the choice of our builder, not mine, and I deeply regret being pigeonholed into this arrangement.
