Just received my PG&E bill and it prompted me to look at our usage since our solar was installed last November. Great to see the solar system working so well. After looking around, we decided to go with Sunpower and have them do the install. I was worried about having contractors do it in case the contractor went out of business. The purchase and install went great. I was very specific about my desire not to see any conduit and they delivered. The city inspector also commented on the "clean install". We've had great power ever since. The phone app seems to work well. If I'm stuck in a boring meeting, I'll sometimes glance at my solar production. Highly recommend. read more

Buyer Beware - SunPower does not stand behind their product! The front-line people are great but ... * The techs that come to your house are knowledgeable and courteous * The people that answer the phone are polite, good listeners * But they take messages for the mysterious "case managers" whom you cannot call directly! They are the firewall between you and SunPower, focused on damaged control & creative avoidance! We bought a new home at the end of 2016 and upgraded with a few extra panels. Seemed like a good choice since the panels produced close to 60% of our total usage for the first two years. * Our true up bills with PG&E were around $900 each year for 2017 & 2018. * Then in 2019 our true up bill jumped to over $1800. This production chart below tells it all ... 2017 - 59% ... 2018 - 55% ... 2019 production dropped to 29% of our usage. As we started to dig into it, we learned that many of the "micro inverters" had failed. They were faulty and SunPower knew about it but did not tell us. We had to figure it out ourselves and then call them! We were not alone. If you dig into the other 1 star reviews on YELP, you will see how many other people had the same exact issues and same poor customer service response. * Multiple phone calls to reps who can't help you, only take messages Unable to directly call a case manager or anyone who makes decisions or has authority * Multiple case numbers - makes it look like they are solving problems We started calling 2/12/20 once we realized something was wrong. * Without coming out to look, they told us they had to order parts and would schedule a time for their teams to replace our micro inverters (they knew they were bad!) * They finally came out on 3/9/20 to perform what they called a "system upgrade". They replaced the faulty micro inverters - since then our panels are producing close to 60% of our needs again! * But we were still out lots of money in excess PG&E bills and SunPower knew the micro inverters were bad. They monitor our production and chose not to tell us we had a problem for over a year. Since the "upgrade" we have: * Called them on 4/7, 4/8, 4/21, 4/22 and 4/30 * We have spoken with Emen, Shane, Maria, Raisa, McGee, Seth & Zenn * They closed case # xxxxx128 as successfully completed ??? * Then open up a new case # xxxxx157 to address the PG&E true up bills * We learned that our neighbors were reimbursed 3 times what they offered us for exactly the same true up bill amounts! Exactly the same bills $900 to $1800 !!! * We were also told we need to wait until 6/5/20 to receive our check and that is it. We challenged this on 4/22 and 4/30 asking for an explanation of why we were treated differently than our neighbors and we had the same production losses. * The case manager has not called us back and we cannot call him or email him directly. * The last customer service rep we spoke with on 4/30 said they understand and agree with us. They said they would be upset too and someone will call back right away... * No one has called as of today. We have had it with them! Next step is sharing our experience with BBB and more social media. Do yourself a favor and pick another solar panel company. Great idea, bad company! This companies support is absolute garbage. I have been having frequent issues with my monitoring system and spent countless hours working with their offshore "techs" who only know how to do basic things that are scripted in a manual and are unable to think for themselves. Once they try the basics they force you to wait 24-48 hours to "see if the fix they remotely sent works".... even though I have already told them the phone cards they use to talk to the monitoring system do not work in my area! Thats right, they knowingly install phone SIM cards they know do not work in this area and still force these techs to try and remote communicate with it before they will send someone out.... Now you finally get a tech out to your house and they find that the device is not working properly and do a ton of tests and troubleshooting in person. They want to replace the device and call it in and now they force this SunPower tech at my house to also talk to tech support and redo all of the work we just did or they cannot process it... talk about another waste of time and resources! The tech leaves and tells me it will be replaced and to expect a call to schedule that replacement visit. Almost a few weeks go by and they text me to schedule a call and luckily I asked if they were replacing the unit on this call, they said no, we need to send another tech out to continue troubleshooting.... I told them I have already wasted enough time on this and asked why more troubleshooting needs to be done. Apparently they want pictures of my breaker box and a voltmeter reading the tech forgot to do. How this is relevant to a device that is not communicating properly is beyond me... so, I sent them a picture of my breaker box and asked that they order the replacement unit. That was a month ago. Within this month they have not attempted a call back and when I call in, there is never anyone to take the call available and they tell me someone will call back in 24 hours... thats happened about 3 times now... Still nothing. I wrote this review while waiting on hold just now for about an hour to see if just waiting for a supervisor would work, but alas, we are at the same results. I hope this review helps you to make the right decision and choose a company that respects their customers and has way better support that actually attempts to help. read more

I have had a terrible experience with customer service. At first the company gives you a project manager to work with and to help through the paperwork process. to our surprise the woman that was helping us left the company and they never notified us. None of our rebate paperwork was ever filed! I have my solar panels since february! in addition, we have not been able to check our solar usage because it will not connect to the internet. we were told someone could come out to check the connection but we'll be charged!!!!! We called several times for both issues and have been on hold for several hours every time! We spoke to several different departments.. asked for managers. absolutely no help! We got no where and still no where! So needless to say the company will have good costumer service when they want your money, then hang you out to dry once the panels are installed. My nephew, who worked for a utility company, highly suggested getting SunPower panels. He said they are known to be the most highly rated panels. It is true. When my HOA was concerned about the panels glaring into our neighbor's windows (like some lesser quality panels will), SunPower panels won't. This company is so difficult to get a hold of. My inverter stopped working and it took 11 weeks to get a tech out to evaluate the problem. Advised that it needs replacing I called Sunpower 2 weeks later and was told inverter was shipping but was given an installation date 9 weeks in the future. 5 months and around $1000 in energy cost. We own our system. Installed by Bakker Solar Electric in 2015. Installed in two rows, the top row shades the lower row for much of the year, so the panels do not work to full capacity. Nobody can/will fix. A panel malfunctioned and broke and took the whole system down in June 2020. Was not fully restored - albeit at the shade-compromised level - until February 2021. Was never compensated for the broken system. read more

Truly a great experience with SunPower activating our new home's solar panels on July 6, 2022. The technicians who did the work at our home were Mr. Ted Ferguson and Mr. James McGranahan. Interestingly, due to a scheduling issue, they fit us in while also servicing a neighbor, something that they didn't have to do but shows their commitment to customer happiness. We're first-time homeowners as well as first-time solar power users... this was a huge step for us and James and Ted walked us through the process with professionalism and kindness. They helped us set up our phone apps to monitor the solar collection and exporting to the grid, explaining important stuff like the best time of day to use appliances/other electricity-heavy items. Overall it was our pleasure to have these two gentlemen hook up our SunPower service, and we learned a lot in a short time conversing with them. Two SUPER PROS and a credit to the company! read more

I leased solar from sunpower for approximately 7 years. For the past year and one half I notice a lack of performance from the panels. I would call periodically about my misgivings. The company outsources to the Phillipines and the staff although polite essentially follows a set protocol and ignores you. I refused to pay for several months and finally after constant calling forced them to send out a tech. It turns out the invertor had failed and I didnt have working solar for about a year. That fact is supported by my true up bill from PGE .My true up was over $4000 It is normally under $1000. Initially i was told that they would reconcile this. It was assigned to a rep Dominic who is vague and non committal. His goal appears to ignore me. The failure of my system is real and eventuality I will have to pay PGE the $4000 bill that resulted from Sunpower's failure. I've gad this leased Systèm on my roof since July 2016. The first year and a half was great. Then it started getting error messages with ground faults and not producing power. Nobody from the company reached out until six months later to let me know my system wasn't reporting like it should. Ended up with a true up of over $1200 when I would normally get $300. back. They sent the company that installed it to do a report and give to sun power. But they didn't like what it said i I guess because they had me wait another month to have someone else come out from sun power ( I thought was out to do the repairs that was on report form the installer) But no the wanted to check for themselves and still didn't get it right. They installed micro inverter on a oanel system that never had them. And replace the inverter that may have been perfectly fine. But it took me away from work for 5 different days and to only find out that they still were getting error messages and them lying to me and saying that every is probably just fine. Then I get an email finally after all of my calls and emails to schedule me at the end of August. Loosing all of my peak production yet again for a third year. When I got my true up tjis year it was over $1500. And when I reach out to sun power they told me to wait until they had all the calculations. My true up was in June and they said it would be 10 to 12 weeks before I would get a check from them of only $1200. This is horribly wrong. I feel so manipulate and helpless. Paying $200 for the lease and making payments on my true up. I thought getting solar panels was supposed to help me save money. Instead of loosing money. I'm struggling just to pay bills. And after reading other reviews I'm worried that I may never get this resolved and be stuck yet again with another year of true up over $1500. Because of Loosing peak productivity. I've been working with SunPower to try and get solar installed on my house. Their installation crew showed up late yesterday, and did not finish the installation by 5 pm when they packed up and left. They were not able to tell me when they would be back to complete the installation, saying they had other jobs already scheduled. I have emailed and called my project coordinator, Michael Bish, twice (and got sent to voicemail both times) and have gotten no response. I contacted their corporate support line and was told it would be 24 to 48 hours for them to respond to me. Not a good way to run a company whose mission is to install solar panels. read more

They were Johnny-on-the-spot when it came to our solar install. They answered all the questions, showed up on time, respected our property and came back (the same day) when we noticed an electrical issue after install. We paid our bill, and that was the end of all good service. We are producing solar and we monitor through our PG&E portal, as our home monitoring system, has never worked properly. Their site said it was going through an upgrade to their monitories system and it would not work properly until the 31 of July which happened to coincide with the due date of our final bill. Final bill paid... monitoring system... still backwards. 10 phone calls and countless emails and ... You think for $26,000.00 it might work right. Happy to change my review if this issue is ever resolved. Simply put... The monitoring system has been wired wrong. read more

Absolutely dreadful on customer service and product failed after a year! Go elsewhere for panels. I have had my SunPower system for several years. After a year, I noticed that I was only getting about half the power I should be and contacted SP for service. They said my inverter needed to be replaced but they had no idea when it would be in stock. I have now been trying to get a new inverter for 2 years! Finally, someone was supposed to come out on Jan 26 to change out the inverter, but no one came and no one called! There has been no follow up since and today is Feb 10. Let me reiterate this point - not only did they not show up for the appointment, but there has been no follow up since to offer an explanation or offer to reschedule. I called customer service and was placed on hold for 24 minutes and then was hung up on. Such a terrible disappointment overall especially as I spent $50,000 to buy the panels up front. SunPower will happily take your money but then not stand behind their products nor provide customers with the support they need if the equipment fails. read more

So we have been looking at Solar for a very long time we got a few quotes and weren't ready to pull the trigger. Then we had the guys at SunPower come by. The sales team which was run through Hyperion was great. They went over every aspect of the process and we looked at multiple panel placement options. I liked that their panels were the most efficient in the industry so it meant less panels but more power. Also I liked that the company has been around since 1980s and is a multi billion dollar company so you know they will be around to honor their warranty. As far as the price it was not the cheapest quote we got but I felt secure that they would honor their price. We decided to go ahead at the end of April. Then Ken Molton and his team were assigned to us for the install. These guys were phenomenal. First of all the site surveyor came to make sure the plans were city compliant. After a few adjustments to the plans we submitted it to the city. It took the city maybe a few days to give the approval. Then we had to schedule the install. The one mistake we made was we thought we had to be home for the install so we scheduled it a couple weeks out so we would be there. Turns out as long as they can get access to the roof you don't need to be home. Our bad!!! This was the longest delay so it was on us. Then we needed the city to come and inspect the install. Once they did the DWP needed to come and put in a new meter. Then we were live and producing power. In the last week we have produced over 150 KWH of power and system is running great. We can check our production on our phone and on the web with no problem. The whole process took about 1.5 months from agreeing to go forward till turning it on and 3 weeks of that was because of our mistake . We are very happy with the whole experience. read more

I did a lot of research before deciding on SunPower and found that the SunPower had the best efficiency panels in the market at the time of my installation. I found them to be very reasonably priced even though they may not be the cheapest! Another thing which helped me decide to go with SunPower was my interaction with their energy consultant, Jason Balogh. He used to be part of the high tech companies in the past, hence he knows exactly what the high tech silicon valley folks are looking for and how to interact with them. It was a very pleasant experience working with him throughout the process. My solar installation happened end of 2017 and I love clean energy getting generated right on my roof... now I don't feel guilty turning on the conditioning even on warm summer days! A nightmare to deal with. They subcontract installation to Seabright Solar who violated building codes and installed solar panels on top of 3 layers of roof. Unfortunately, we bought the house without this knowledge. Sunpower is useless in dealing with this situation. Now that I have to have my roof replaced, Seabright wants to charge $1500 to remove and re-install the panels AFTER THEY IMPROPERLY INSTALLED THEM TO BEGIN WITH. And I pretty much have zero options at this point but to give them the money. Furthermore, NEVER lease solar panels. My bills are preposterous and could feed a small city. $156.37 a month + my con edison bills range anywhere from 250 - 600 a month. read more
