She clearly communicated her expertise and when our questions drifted to the actual execution of the work, she would always say "that is for the contractor to decide". While some may think this response abrupt or uncaring, Linda is clear in what she does (design) and does not do (installation). We did end up tweaking some design elements to lower installation cost but overall followed her plan. My wife and I worked with Linda on landscape plans for our front and back yard. The landscaping was completed in March and we are incredibly delighted with everything Linda designed. We met with Linda several times during the design process, and while the design is both professional and modern, it is clear that she incorporated our personal feedback in very thoughtful ways throughout the yard. Our back yard had existing walls and hardscape that would have been costly to demolish and landscape from scratch. We were impressed by Linda's ability to frame her design around the existing infrastructure in clever and resourceful ways. Using Linda's design, the contractor was able to repurpose masonry blocks and rock from unused parts of the yard to totally transform another part of the yard. Equally as impressive, Linda tailored her design to our budgetary constraints, and the contractor's estimate came in on-target. The plans Linda produced were accurate, easy to read, and beautifully artistic. The contractor had very few questions for us about the design, and Linda was on-site a few times during construction to check on the progress. We used a contractor recommended by Linda, and were impressed by their teamwork on the project. A couple months after completion, the plants are in full bloom and the yard has become our favorite part of the house, by far! The landscaping is low-maintenance, and since Linda used mostly drought tolerant plants, our water usage is surprisingly low given the vibrant growth. We interviewed several Landscape designers once we decided to re-do our front and back yard. We eventually contracted to work with Linda Alexander of Sunrise Garden Design and are very glad we did. We chose Linda because she took the time to come to our house and talk to us about what we envisioned for our yards. She asked us to show her pictures of yards that we liked, asked what kinds of plants we liked, what our budget was and asked how we planned to use our yards when completed. Other designers we talked to were more interested in telling us what we should do, not what we envisioned. WE appreciated that Linda told us we did not need a designer for our backyard, as most of the work we wanted to do involved sticking with the pattern we already had while installing artificial turf, landscape lighting and refreshing the landscape we currently had. Other designers planned to charge us for plans for the backyard. The plans she developed for our front and side yard are wonderful; just what we had hoped for. Linda made another trip to meet with us and go through the plants she envisioned for our yard; she got our likes and dislikes, and then went on to complete the plans with our vision in mind. Our plans have an English Garden vibe (which we wanted) but incorporated plants that would use much less water than our old lawn. She planned for flowering and non-flowering plants, laddering the plants in their placement so that everything will be visible. She chose fragrant plants and plants that would attract hummingbirds and butterflies in the area near our sitting area. In the areas around our Birch Trees, she chose plants that would thrive with less water and live in harmony with the trees (which do soak up water). Rather than taking out all of the plants we had in our yard, Linda incorporated many of them into her landscape plans. An additional plus is that the plants are all easy to take care of so we will be able to maintain them on our own if we want to (Linda has provided annual care instructions for every plant). I am also happy to say the completed plans include a path that meanders through our new garden. Additionally, she planned for all hardscape (boulders, pathway and accent lighting). Two and one half months ago I made an appointment with Linda. I confirmed 8 days before the appointment and then we confirmed 3 days before. Then after taking off the day from work to meet I get a one line text 16 hours before the appointment that she needs to reschedule. Mind you, it was too late to be able to return to work the next day changes were made. Evidently she was at jury duty and then said some other things that did not compute. First you know about the duty weeks if not months before. Second, her manner didn't even address an apology just matter of fact. I decided I could not work with this type of individual that would cancel so abruptly, some excuse with was not plausible since everyone knows about jury duty selection months in advance. Plus you have choices to reschedule your jury duty. So this being said I decided not to avail myself of her services because I need someone who I feel is professional and is more responsible than what I saw. read more

Linda came out this Spring. She supervised the pruning of my Crepe Myrtle. She did a proposal for small areas in both my front and back yards. She had pictures of all the plants she recommended. This review is for a consultation. I reached out to Linda after reading several Yelp reviews on landscapers. In her first response to my inquiry, I already experienced how thoughtful she was in terms of providing the best help by listening to what my needs were and offered to schedule a consultation. I was not re-doing our landscaping but needed to replant in a few areas to complement the rest but also plant with specific purposes - whether I needed shade, noninvasive roots, hillside maintenance, etc. we did a in person walk through of the yard (with masks on) and discussed some trees and ground covers I had in mind and she noted why they would or would not work. She also helped me identify the existing plants I had and where we needed to prune, remove, and if certain plants were not growing in the ideal place. She was very knowledgeable but always listened first and remembered what was important to me - such as not attracting more bees. We are really impressed with her knowledge of plants knowing she also managed a nursery for 5 years adds to her understanding of the area, the extensive choices for drought tolerant plants, trees etc. For us she has designed walls made from pavers, new arbor areas, stacked stone benches, a paver deck, lighting ideas, a shed, raised vegetable beds, espalier screen walls with vegetation climbing on it, walkways, extensive amount of plants, trees and has put in the plans how to maintain the new area as well as our existing landscape. I was looking for a design only to re-do my front yard. It had been 20 years since my yard had been landscaped and many of the plants had died off and much of the original design was totally lost.
