We had QGL re-do our front yard. Everything was updated: old concrete driveway and abrasive patio pavers were torn out and replace with new pavers (driveway and patio). The lawn, decorative plants, sprinklers, and drainage were all replaced. We are extremely happy with the outcome. The staff QGL sent was professional and communicative. Chris was our project manager and on site we mostly worked with Paco and a small crew of 2-3 people depending on the day. The project took about 7 weeks. We got 5 bids and Chris' team came in mid-range. At the time of collecting bids, it seemed a fair price for the work. Now that the project is done I'd say it was an excellent value and the best price for the quality of work we got. We especially appreciated Chris' input on the design and plant selection. We had a design from a landscaper, but made a few changes to the shape of the driveway, a small rock wall, and adding a tree. All of Chris' suggestions were fantastic- expanding the driveway line, using Napa basalt, and adding a Crepe Myrtle. Like any project there were a few hiccups,(change to paver pattern near edge, electrical line accidentally cut when tearing up old driveway) but everything was fixed quickly and professionally. The team also phased how the pavers were laid so that we always had a clear and paved walkway to either our door or garage. Tools were put away at the end of the workday and areas swept- this was especially helpful given that we have two young children. We've had at least 5 sets of neighbors tell us how great the front yard looks now. We've done a lot of major upgrades to our house in the 6 years we've lived here (new roof, exterior paint, pool resurfacing, solar install, interior flooring & paint), but this has definitely been the best overall experience and outcome. Would love to give this company a positive review but they apparently found that my project wasn't expensive enough for them to even give us a bid. Chris came out to my house, reviewed the areas we were interested in having the work done. He did offer a few ideas and financial options. I explained that I wanted to remain within a reasonable budget I could afford. He did come down a little from his initial expensive concept and I came up. I thought we were on the same track. After that he told me he would get back to me within the week to go over the details and discuss any alterations. Chris never made it back! Quality Gardening and Landscaping did an extensive, months-long residential landscaping job on a half-acre for us. Chris put Quality's best crews on the job and they did everything from demolition to trenching to irrigation to planting hundreds of plants; some of which were on a steep hill. The crew came punctually and worked tirelessly day after day. Chris and crew also installed an intricate lighting system for us, and Chris even helped program the lights himself. The only positive that I can mention is that the estimator came on time. Beyond that, I cannot say anything remotely positive about the experience. He was arrogant, ignorant about anything but the most conventional plants and materials, incurious, and most of all, he treated me like "the little lady" who couldn't possibly know the slightest thing about gardening. His proposals were laughable, both in concept and price. It is sad to have entered into a possibility of finding a good landscaper, and to have been treated so poorly. I remained cordial and polite but am kicking myself for not having confronted his behavior and lack of knowledge. read more

I began planning my backyard transformation with Eddie several months ago. He had many ideas/suggestions which were incredibly creative and eye catching. We had to wait for awhile as they are really busy right now, but it was worth the wait. QGL just completed landscaping our back and front yards. The backyard was a rough demo with tiers of retaining walls, and old pergola, lots of concrete from posts and stairs, an old "waterfall" feature, and rough rocky soil. We had no vision for what we wanted the yards to look like, I just knew what I wanted it to feel like when I was out there. Eddie took the time to thoughtfully design our yards, he picked great plants and had great suggestions. His team was professional and hard working. They took the time to do it right and we couldn't be happier with the results. I switched to QGL over ten years ago, when I got tired of seeing my hedges trimmed in round balls and cubes -- QGL's gardeners hand-clip, leaving a natural, healthy plant. My team who does the weekly service consistently go above and beyond, and respond quickly to the needs of the yard, and little extras. I've had several different teams over the years, and they've all been first-rate. A couple years ago I had them remove my lawn and design/install a low water landscaping plan --- it is gorgeous, and we actually USE our yard so much more than we ever did before. I should start by saying we have a fairly large garden in which we take great pride. We found that our prior gardeners weren't caring for it the way we wanted - a little too mow and blow for my taste. We've worked with QGL for a couple years now. First they did a project for us, then we hired them for our regular garden maintenance services. They've consistently done right by us - I feel like they genuinely CARE for our garden. One of the things I like BEST is that they show up when they say they will, they're reliable, professional and they do good work. Sounds like basic stuff but my experience has been that you can't always rely on service providers to do what they say they'll do, when they say they'll do it. Eddie (the owner) is great to work with. We have another project coming up soon to minimize water usage - they're so great to work with I didn't really even consider getting another bid. read more

Two stars because the people we spoke with were polite. My husband called to see when someone could give us an estimate, we had to schedule two weeks out just for them to take a look! He said fine. Well, in or calls for quotes, someone else came out the same day, we made an agreement, and the guys have been out twice (once for a big clean up and again for maintenance). We had actually forgotten to cancel with Quality, but figured we would get an estimate just incase. Jeremy told me the yard would need a clean-up (not sure what, exactly) or if I skipped the clean-up it would take several months to get in shape. Again, I'm baffled, the yard was horrifying before the other crew came and we are very happy. He said he would have to email me a quote. Well it came. Their clean-up price was double what I already paid. Their bi-weekly maintenance fee was several times more than what I'm paying. Honestly, I'm not sure how the pricing is so wildly different. I am happy with the service I am currently paying for and I think it looks just fine. Jeremy was unable to tell me what his "clean up" would entail, just kept reiterating how it needed to be done. I'm sure they are great guys, but he wasn't able to tell me any more about what service he would provide for the money and frankly, paying a ridiculous amount more for vague statements doesn't sit well with me. read more

This is an overdue review; I have had my new landscaping for a year now and could not be more pleased with Eddie and QGL. They are a very professional well-run business with great results. Eddie is easy to work with and always ready to answer any questions. Emails are answered promptly and phone calls are welcomed. I had a very challenging front yard with numerous critter issues and various sun exposures. Eddie chose the most beautiful, interesting, and appropriate plantings for the area. The plants are thriving (all encased in gopher proof baskets), the hardscape is beautiful, the drip system is so efficient, the lighting is spectacular - particularly on my oak trees- and each season brings new interest to the area. Eddie provided me with a list of choices that I was able to choose from as well as his recommendations for my particular situation. He is very knowledgeable about plants and design and was always patient with all my questions. He would also stop by if I had questions about the new drip system controls that couldn't be answered over the phone. I also had them replace my front porch, steps, and walkway and it changed the whole look of my entry. Driving up to my home now always gives me a good feeling. Eddie's crew was neat, punctual, and got the job done on time. Neighbors that were home during the project told me they were impressed with their workmanship. Everyone loves my new yard! As a single woman, I appreciate feeling that I was not taken advantage of and any concerns, questions, problems would always be addressed. This provider (Eddie) literally did nothing outside of warn me of the cost per Sq Ft for artificial Turf. When I asked Eddie if they could come out, look at the site, and give me a true estimate, Eddie responded with the costs again and told me his schedule. Ultimately I ended the call saying that I am not going to beg for a service provider to give me an estimate for a job that could be between $10k & $15K! Quality did a complete renovation of my large back yard including design, improving the drainage, replacing some sod and the irrigation to it, installing over 125 shrubs on 2 slopes and a large flat area with drip irrigation to all, redoing a short stone wall border and installing stepping stones. Chris was great to work with, friendly, knowledgeable, creative, responsive and easy to communicate with. His crew of 8 got the job done really efficiently, in spite of several days of pouring rain in the middle of the project. They covered the whole muddy area with tarps until they could resume work. When they were done, it looked GREAT! Chris was very accommodating about changing a few things at the end and seemed very committed to having me be happy with the result. They even did some extra things for me that weren't part of the contract, with no additional charge. I had a previous very disappointing experience a few years ago with a landscaper doing that same back yard and so I was very wary. Chris had some work to do to earn my trust and did not let me down. We had QGL do a major backyard overhaul. We got two other bids for the project, but I felt like Eddie really listened to what we wanted and educated us about certain choices. He presented his experience with layout and function and explained his reasons and then left us to make the call. And he really understood our modest budget and guided us when to splurge and when to save. QGL installed a new retaining wall, re-graded our entire yard, installed new drainage, new sod, plants, and irrigation. The crew is great and show up everyday at 9am like clockwork. 1. Why did we choose QGL? First, we had a neighbor of our parents who is very "fastidious" and who raved about work QGL did for him. Second, we asked Eddie to come out and begin talking about a project and included a request for help locating an irrigation leak. I envisioned two days and holes everywhere! Juan accompanied Eddie and immediately (5 minutes) located the leak and had the broken line repaired in 30 minutes. We were really impressed. 2. How did the project go? First, QGL was 3 month out in work already promised (to answer another reviewer). SO we developed a scope of work and 2 months later had the contract finalized with cost. This month the work was completed and we are amazed at how QGL's landscape plan transformed the property, front and back. People keep stopping us and make comments about the work. The plants are the finest quality (some in bloom after 1 week!!), concrete and stone work beautifully done, irrigation is perfection especially the commercial drip systems in the front and the new state of the art controller. The new lighting was the icing on the cake. Cleanup was done every day, employees were very respectful and responsive... a joy to be around. I was there every day watching everything looking for short cuts - especially those which can be "covered over" and left. Absolutely no shortcuts. And whenever I called or emailed, I got a very timely response. 3. Meeting Jeremy tomorrow about a maintenance agreement. Somehow I am sure the criticism from another reviewer will not be replicated. That criticism is totally inconsistent with all we have experienced to date. 4. We still have two phases to go over the next 2 years: hardscape and another softscape. I have used QGL for a number of years for both installation and weekly maintenance. Eddie, the owner, is easy to communicate with, and very responsive. The weekly maintenance us superb! Two workers spend 2 hours at my house each week. They mow twice--always in 2 different directions. They weed, trim, prune, plant, adjust sprinklers. They do EVERYTHING. If there is extra work to be done (like sprinkler valve replacement, spreading mulch, etc., they will do it for an additional charge. I an very happy with QGL, and I always recommend them for anyone looking for garden installation or maintenance. read more

Contacted Eddie about a complete redesign of our front landscape and appreciate his recommendations about what we would be happy with long term! He designed a lovely new flagstone entryway, we added concrete to expand the driveway, and all new front landscape with lovely boulders, plants, new irrigation and landscape lighting. QGL did a complete overhaul of our front landscape and hardscape. Eddie, the owner, was very professional from start to finish. He listened to what he wanted and developed detailed plans and estimates based upon those. He gave us excellent ideas, many of which we took but we never felt he pressuring us into anything. His crew started and finished when he said they would, they were incredibly hardworking and were very good to work with. When one aspect of the project didn't please us (the color of some stone being used in a walkway wasn't what we were expecting), Eddie worked with us and corrected it without question.
