While I did look at other places I kelp thinking back to the Arbor Inn. Ultimately they were the best choice for her. While all of the staff is warm and welcoming the caregivers are the best. They treat each patient with love and respect. Mom as adjusted well to her new home. It's comforting to know that she is so well cared for.

I was there for a tour of the community today on behalf of a family member who will be needing…read morecare. Before I even entered the building, I saw, first hand how a staff member responded to a resident in need. The resident was enjoying the fresh air outside and had taken a fall in rounding the corner. I didn't see the actual fall but as I got out of my car, I saw that he was on the ground and bleeding on his forearm, rushed over to him as he was on his hands and knees in the driveway. I told him I would stay with him until help arrived. Just then a staff member was pulling into the parking lot, likely to start her shift. She saw us, immediately pulled her car up behind the resident to block/protect him from anyone else that might be driving in, jumped out of her car, rushed over to assess his condition, called for help with a sense of urgency and thanked me for waiting there with him. I was so impressed by the sense of urgency, confidence, obvious great training, empathy, compassion and dignity shown to this resident by this staff member, I knew right away that this organization is special. I've toured many communities in my career in healthcare and now that my family member is involved, I know what to look for. More than a basic, staged "tour" of a community, I actually got to experience what this community does to care for its residents on a daily basis. That, for me, was priceless. A care community is far more than a pretty entrance, with balloons and a grand piano. It's the staff who care for the residents day-to-day that counts. I ended my tour today after having met with management, who were equally as impressive. Arbor Inn gets an A+ plus from me.

At first I was impressed at how the facility looked, how it was run and how it looked in general…read more But...... as time went on and the day to day routines were noticed first hand, I developed a different outlook. Don't get me wrong though, this facility does have a lot of positives. The front reception desk personnel are friendly and informative, most all of the staff from the aides, med techs, nursing, maintenance, housekeeping, activities etc. are friendly, helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. It's a clean facility with a nice home type feel for their residents. It's very nicely laid out and is very comfortable looking with lots of features like their Mainstreet area with plenty of tables and chairs and a calming waterfall to enjoy when visiting and eating with your loved ones. There's a library and an activities room, a fireplace with chairs to sit by the front entrance, a spacious dining area and multiple chairs and couches in the hallways and much more. The laundry services were spotty when it came to replenishing towels and washcloths. I asked twice for fresh sets for my family member when they were there for a short 3 week respite stay and both times I was told there weren't any. I was able to see inside the laundry room one day when the light were left on and they were definitely backed up on doing the laundry. So I finally brought in a washcloth and towel from home a couple of times. The food seemed so-so, but I can't attest to anything first hand. This was through the resident's own words as I asked day to day while making small talk with them as to how their meals were. The med techs that pass out medications aren't real knowledgeable as to what medications treat what conditions. This lack of knowledge could have been very serious for my family member if we hadn't noticed that they didn't receive some very important medications. We talked about it with the head of nursing and hopefully this type of thing won't happen with another patient. Fortunately it all worked out but still it could have been a very serious issue. I overheard some of the staff a couple of times talking in the elevator about their frustrations. I was surprised that they talked right in front of a family member. I found that to be unprofessional as it should have taken place in the break room or off the clock. The last thing that didn't sit well with me was when my family member said their goodbyes to the staff and got a snide 'see ya' as they walked on past without saying a nicer goodbye. This wasn't the way I wanted my family member to remember their brief stay. It comes down to just being more professional and polite. All in all, I know no place is perfect in every aspect and especially nowadays, keeping any place staffed is a big problem. With a few tweaks as far as the laundry linen shortage, teaching the staff to be more professional and not to discuss residents in front of family members and how to be nicer in general, and lastly teaching the med techs a bit more as far as giving them some quick lessons about what medications treat what conditions, this facility would earn a higher rating from me. Again, these are just my observations from only 3 weeks out of the year, but important ones all the same.

The physical facility is very nice. The atrium reminds me of a Ramada Inn. It's bright and very clean. Their room is on the small side but adequate for their needs. The opportunities for them to get involved are many and varied. Everything from documentary screenings to day trips to, of course, Bingo. The healthcare workers are polite, respectful, and responsive. There is a cruise director type person who gets to know the residents and tries to invite them involved in activities they might like. I was visiting for a week from L.A. and was so happy my family found this facility.

Very recently my mom passed at Sunrise at the age of 87, and the tears were flowing with the family and the staff which is why I used the word "caring" above. There was obviously a strong connection between the team and her (and my dad) which is not something you read in a contract, nor can it be fabricated. The foot soldiers are solid and do a job few of us want. Also, upper management does everything it can to make sure financial and daily needs are meeting expectations. In closing, my 91 year old father is still living at Sunrise and when asked if he wanted to explore other options he emphatically stated "NO".

Our family placed our mother in Grace Senior Living expecting basic safety, dignity, and…read moreresponsible oversight. Instead, what we experienced left us heartbroken, frustrated, and ultimately fearful for her wellbeing. We had multiple meetings with management about her care plan, her daily needs, and the fact that she was a known fall risk (she was a dementia memory care resident) We made her needs very clear, repeatedly. Yet her care plan was rarely followed, and vital information was not passed down to the staff, or completely ignored by those who were supposed to be caring for her. Watching this play out time after time was devastating. Our biggest struggle was with management. Our interactions with Kim Briley, one of the owners, were discouraging and dismissive. Instead of responsibility or solutions, we were met with excuses and comments that made us lose confidence in the facility's leadership. She told us directly that many of her staff were lazy, improperly trained, or didn't have a high school education. She also made the comment that "they can't be watching her 24/7," which felt like a complete disregard for the fact that we were paying for supervision, safety, and adherence to her care plan -- especially given her being documented as late stage dementia and a fall risk. Amid the chaos, a few staff members stood out for their genuine compassion: Jessica, Tiffany, Colette, Christina, and Kiera. They cared about our mother and tried their best despite the lack of support and structure from management. They were the few bright spots in an otherwise deeply disappointing experience. The breaking point -- the moment we will never forget -- was when our mother fell and fractured her hip. In our view, this was preventable had her care plan been followed and communicated properly. After everything we had voiced and tried to address, this outcome was devastating. Obviously there was an ambulance ride to the ER followed by surgery and rehab. We removed our mom from Grace immediately. Not once did Kim reach out to check on Mom. Another disheartening find was learning that the facility is not even licensed by the State of Michigan! This only added to the pain and regret we felt. We trusted Grace Senior Living with someone we love dearly. That trust was broken. Based on our experience, we cannot and will not recommend this facility to any family seeking consistent safe, reliable, or compassionate care.

What really stands out are the activities--there's always something going on, and it's clear they put real thought into keeping residents engaged, active, and social. My mom genuinely looked forward to participating and always had something fun to talk about afterward. Most of all, the staff is incredible. Every single person we interacted with was kind, patient, and truly caring. You can tell they don't just "do a job"--they really care about the residents and treat them like family. My elderly mother was very happy during her time there, and as a family, we felt so supported and at ease knowing she was in such good hands. I'm very grateful for all the amazing people at Grace Senior Living and everything they do every day.

This is not the place you want your elderly family member to be for rehab. My 94 year old mother…read morewas there after a hip fracture, surgery, and a 10 day hospital stay. Prior to her fall she was able to walk with a walker. After 10 days in a hospital bed, she was very weak and barely able to stand. The Bellbrook rehab staff was not very patient with her (despite saying it could take up to a year at her age to recover from her injuries) and after a week decided that she was fearful and unable to stand or walk. She is now totally wheelchair dependent. After being at Bellbrook for 3 weeks, she was told she had to be discharged - despite insurance authorizing her to stay for another week! Discharge planning was abysmal. The care is safe, but not family centered. They do not include the family at all, insisting that family members leave the room, "while they provide care". I suppose if you would like to drop your loved one off and not be involved with their care at all, this would be ok, but it was not ok with me.

They are diligent, caring, and professional, which is a huge comfort for my wife and me because we know he is in good hands. The management staff has been great to work with ( head nurse, wellness coordinator, facility director, etc.) and have all been very responsive to our needs and supportive as we all work to insure my dad gets the best care. They treat us as family. I highly recommend Waltonwood!
