Here's the scenario: today my dog was tilting his head a lot and swiping his paw across his head like a cat cleaning himself. This was odd behavior and as soon as my bf said call the vet for an appointment, our Yoshi ran to the door and waited to leave. VERY ODD behavior! Lol I called and explained the issue to the vet and they told me to bring him right down. Our Shiba is very picky choosy about what dogs are in his presence so they got him straight into a room too. We did luck out today, but this isn't always the case. they do have mobile appointments which do make it easy to find the next available slot without the awkwardness of going through your schedule with the lady on the phone. Outside they have doggy poop bags and a hydrant for them to what I call "check in" inside they have a human restroom and a good amount of seats in an L shape. It is a small office and small lot so please keep your fur babies in cages or leashes (especially outside, you can see the highway). The vets and employees really are kind helpful animal lovers too, so this is the only place I trust my dog with. If I can't get Yoshi in right away and he's sick, they will have the vet speak with us or they will call us back to relay information. Our Yoshi had an ear infection, and he let the vet check out his ears too, so I guess it's a 5 star review from him too (he usually needs a muzzle for the ear check, not today!) read more

This place was so compassionate and caring. Had a wild kitten run up to me in rough shape and I knew it needed help. Dr. Bystry, Rebecca, and all of the staff were so caring and kind. I really didn't know what to do with the little guy but they got him medicine and examined him thoroughly and gave him a second chance at life. It's been 10 days and he's already got his energy back and his eyes have cleared up. He's still got some recovery left to go but I can tell he's going to be alright in time! We just love the staff but especially Dr. Betts. He has treated many of our animals and he has the kindest heart. He had been treating Athena, a cat we rescued from a horrible situation. He gave her meds and she began to eat and she lived for a couple of years with a warm and loving family. When we finally had to put Athena to sleep even Dr. Betts had tears in his eyes. He knew what she went thru but he was always there to help. You couldn't ask for a better Vet!! read more

I took my pup to a couple of veterinarians for a diagnosis why he was drinking so much water and urinating, they took all kinds of tests and all of the them came back negative. So I finally took him to see Dr Betts who after a few days and consultations with other doctors found out that he had a rare forms of diabetes and subscribed some medication that should keep it under control. I had an excellent experience with my Beagle, Bailey. Dr. Betts was and is amazing. Clearly cares deeply about the animals he sees. So friendly and informative, also informing me about things he noticed in Bailey that other vets never mentioned, like developing arthritis in her back right knee, which was not noticed when I took Bailey into another vet just one week ago. I am beyond impressed with his care, communication and passion for the animals. I've gone to other vets before in California and New York, and I've had great vets, but Dr. Betts went above and beyond and was a true pleasure to work with. I'm flying my girl in cargo back to California and was very concerned about it. Dr. Betts gave me great advice, took his time with me, was excellent with Bailey and gave me great information that went above and beyond that of what other vets have done. Five stars. Dr Betts is the most amazing vet. In 2020, he helped save my baby who was suffering from hyperthyroidism. He was very detailed explains everything to you and truly cares. More recently my Molly has started to have some more health problems. He picked right up on it and gave me a referral to have a sonogram. Finding out it was cancer, he assured me my decisions I am making about her are the best ones. He listens to all your concerns and it is apparent he has your pets best interests at heart. Absolute scam. I'm so disappointed I can't leave 0 stars. I took my dog here to get eye drops for her pink eye. She had green/yellow drainage coming out of her one eyes. The vet was cold and condescending, informing me there was another underlying condition. Proceeded to tell me I was wrong for thinking it was pink eye and urged to work up my ONE YEAR OLD DOG for glaucoma. then proceeded to leave out it was a 500$ bill. My dog had pink eye and the antibiotics were a few dollars. Absolutely disgusted. read more

I took my Pekinese for her annual checkup in April. The doctor clipped her nails and suggested that we come back in about 3 weeks to do them again. Today, 5/7/24 we just left Sunrise Veterinary Group on Sunrise Highway in West Islip and the charge to clip her nails was 34.71. I find this cost unacceptable. Our fault we didn't ask the cost up front, and they never mentioned how much the cost would be until it was time to pay. This is a corporation from what the staff said and there's nothing they can do. The prices are set in stone. I am so disappointed in the customer service that I will be leaving this office and finding a private Vet office. The doctors and staff were very nice and friendly, however informing the customer of cost is important and they didn't as I said, and I feel not mentioning the cost is to just get money from the customer. read more

We had an emergency situation that ultimately ended in euthanasia. Sunrise Veterinary Group was the only facility that gave us an appointment. Every other nearby facility was trying to give us an appointment for days away. It turned out our cat was suffering from saddle thrombus which is incredibly painful and unfortunately in most cases a death sentence. Dr. Betts was the veterinarian we saw. What an incredibly compassionate man. He was visibly upset as was the rest of the staff. We can't say enough about this facility. We left with a broken heart but we were in the best place we could have been. Dr. Betts is most definitely in the right field for very obvious reasons. Really long wait time. Arrived on time for appointment and had to wait an hour with my stressed out pet.

I put 5 stars because Julia at the front desk and the doctors are great! I wrote this review to suggest that if you call and speak with Dianne, ask to speak with someone else. My dog needed x-rays and after calling and speaking to Dianne 3 days in a row, she told me she couldn't help me make an appointment because she didn't know if my dog needed to be sedated. The previous two calls were her telling me she'd have the vet get back to us so we could schedule an appointment...I finally went in and Julia helped me schedule an appointment for the next day...Bless you Julia read more

Been having a few problems with my dog lately and couldn't figure out the problem or why she seemed so sad. She had lost her companion a few months ago so we thought she may still be depressed, not eating or drinking and barely going outside for activity within the last week. So here i am after making an apt and I must say Sunrise Veterinarian in west islip.. Dr BETTS. HOLY GRAIL is he GOOD. The office is taking animals to be seen but they'll come outside to your car, the dr will call you from in his office while he's evaluating and go over EVERYTHING so thoroughly with you for as long as you need! Turns out my dog has arthritis in her hips & blood works being sent too just incase. Ive never come across a better animal vet, EVER. THEY ALWAYS seem to charge absurd prices and its always more than one trip but this office made it SO EASY for me and the charges were better than ive seen from any location ive been too. Such a great experience that made all my anxiety and stress kind of at ease especially during this time and after speaking with him..i'll also mention I've never met him, this was an apt all over the phone outside his office and im on here giving a review because he was THAT GOOD. After an unfortunate botched neutering with a different vet we wound up at Sunrise Veterinary Group frantically pleading for their help with our pup who seemingly needed emergency surgery. We had never been to this vet before but we knew we needed help and fast. Without batting an eye Dr. Bystry met with us and quickly assessed our pup letting us know him along with Dr. Weisberg would do the surgery but not knowing the dogs full history they didnt know what they outcome would be. We put our trust in these 2 vet's that we just met hoping they could save our pup and Im so thankful we did. They found out the previous vet who did the initial surgery (in no way affiliated with Sunrise Veterinary Group) had left a vein open. They were able to close the vein and our pup recovered quickly. Dr. Bystry went above and beyond and called me every day to check in on our pup after the surgery until our 1 week check up. You can tell that he genuinely cared and wished the best for him despite us barging into the office unannounced, forcing them to reschedule all of their appointments for the morning to help us. The whole staff was so nice, helpful and understanding. Each time we have brought our dog back he gets a big friendly welcome from all the staff who remember that day. Although they are a bit far from where I live I will undoubtedly bring both of my dogs back here and never use another vet again. They are reliable, knowledgeable, accommodating, trustworthy, and just good and genuine vet's looking to help. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you so much for all you do! My sons dog had to have surgery because he ate foreign objects. He called VCA and they immediately got him in. Dr.Wojciech performed the surgery. He went above and beyond to check in to see if Bloo was ok. He even called on Christmas Day,even though the office was closed. Ive never experienced such caring staff members at a veterinary office. Caitlin, one of he assistants was so helpful and patient with all my sons questions. My son was very nervous and called often with questions and every time he did Dr. Wojciech or another office worker patiently answered all questions. I highly recommends his clinic. I saw Dr. Bystry today after another emergency vet diagnosed my 9 year old cat with diabetes and wanted me to give him 2 insulin shots per day. Intuition told me to wait for a second opinion, and I am extremely grateful that I did! Dr. Bystry examined my pet's bloodwork and said that he felt the blood glucose level was not alarmingly high... at least not high enough to start him on injections. My cat's blood glucose was measured again in the office and was found to be in normal range. I am going to put my cat on a diet and monitor him carefully for changes. Dr. B. calmly explained everything to me in easy terms for me to understand. I left feeling confident that I made a right choice of veterinarian to care for my pets. I'm afraid that if I would have started the insulin injections as hurriedly prescribed to me by the other animal hospital, I could have plunged my cat into hypoglycemia and lost him. read more

I came to this office a little over a year ago when my dogs nail split. I called local vets and was declined due to the fact many were closing in 5 minutes. I called Sunrise vet group and they told me to come in ASAP. They were closing and actually stayed open for my dog (whom they've never seen before) they truly care about animals and not money like some other vets. Unfortunately my one dog has severe allergies and we had to go to a dermatologist, but I will continue care for our more routine appointments! read more

Dr Cimetta is a wonderful Doctor , she genuinely cares and is not harassing with trying to sell products or any extra vaccinations. I've had that problem with several vets before and it is always very uncomfortable. Dr Cimetta reviewed the bill with me and explained what I needed and asked me to choose what I wanted and left it at that. Very professional , understanding and patient with my furry baby girl ! She took her time answering all my questions and personally gave me a call back with my puppies test results the next day. Brought my dog here a couple years ago and have never been so mistreated. He had lepto and they told me that his treatment would cost over 30K and that he'd likely die. I asked a few questions and was cut short- the female doctor told me I was wasting her time after I already paid hundred of dollars for him to spend the night there. I was holding my very sick and scared doggie who was shaking in my lap --it was so disgusting to be told I was wasting her time when she was not in the room more than five minutes. Our pup is alive and well today- I brought him to a different vet who gave me hope and took such nice care of him. read more

The dr claimed that our dog could wait 2 days before going to an emergency hospital with her prolapse. How does she not understand that that is FATAL to wait? We went to an emergency hospital right away and were treated immediately. If you bring your pets here, there is a good chance they will misdiagnose the animal or misinform you. read more

I recently took my pet for a wellness visit to see Dr. Thode, whom I think is a great Dr. However, the clinic itself is rather expensive. Just the visit alone is $77! That's less than 10 minutes of the Dr.'s time to check your pets heart, glands, ears, temperature and weight. Once I walked in (to an empty clinic) the receptionist did NOT greet me once. I went up to the counter and looked at her, she ignored me until I had to say, "umm hellloooo I have an appointment". Then another receptionist came to the desk and took my information. She did not look at my pet once or show any affection to my pet at all. Now, I know that's not a must, but for all you pet lovers, you know that would have been nice! I just found that the two receptionists were rather cold and didn't seem to care about any of the clients that walked in the door. Because of them, I'm thinking about finding another vet where we would feel more welcome. Especially since they charge the amount that they do. read more

I brought my dog here for several years, and frankly I always thought I was being sold services that I didnt need. I never got out of that place without spending $200. The last straw was when my dog was feeling well, and they took an x-ray, and told me my dog needed surgery. He would die without it, they told us. My dog was 10 years old, and we weren't prepared to spend that kind of money on him. When we declined, they then said that we could instead hospitalize him there for a week. There was no guarantee this would cure him, and it would almost cost as much as the surgery. We again declined, took him home, and prepared our children for the worst. Within 2 days of being home our dog had fully recovered! It's been over a year now and he is still fine. Perhaps the wrong diagnosis was an honest mistake on their part, but I always suspected them of trying to sell us services we didn't need. And this would have been a couple thousand dollar mistake. read more

Dr. Bystry is the most compassionate, amazing vet on Long Island and I have been to at least 10 over the years. He is always trying to test and treat conservatively as to not waste money but obviously does what needs to be done. He has treated 2 cats and 5 dogs of mine over the years and helped each one of them with various problems. I live 30 minutes away from Sunrise Vet Group and have plenty of good vets by me.
