We kicked the idea of solar around for two or three years. We finally decided to go with Sunrun Solar this Spring. No high pressure and I liked that the solar panels came with two batteries so we could enjoy the solar electricity 24 hours a day. The people at Sunrun changed out our electric breaker box, it was forty years old, just before they installed the solar panels and the two batteries. They were quick and efficient. Four installers came just after 7 a.m. Two on the roof and two on the electrical. I was ready to get into solar power! Then came the news that while they completed the installation before the end of July, we couldn't use the solar panels until first the city inspected and then Edison. They told us that could take until the end of September. We were not expecting that. Our monthly electric bill has reached over $400 a month during the Winter and Summer. The Solar was intended to keep our electric bill at just the monthly cost to Sunrun. I worked in the management side of construction for a few years so I'm familiar with how inspectors can really slow down any project. In my time building fast food restaurants and medical centers I learned how a smart contractor can help inspectors choose your job to inspect over another one. We never had to wait more than a day for any inspection. So, hearing Sunrun would take two months to get our solar inspected and running is very disappointing. If I were starting over again, we would very likely spend more time with their competition to find not just quick construction but getting to use the solar panels in more reasonable time. So Sunrun, you went from 5 out of 5 stars to maybe 3. If the solar is turned on early, I'll improve that rating. If it takes longer then it may go to 2 stars. read more

PLS DO BETTER SUNRUN! ‍ initiative pls So, this is a new home and Sunrun has been the solar provider for every home in the neighborhood ....but for the past couple of months the site has indicated that our inverter is not working & that they are aware, and a service Tech would be in contact. Needless to say... we weren't contacted and now have received a large bill from SCE. So naturally we called, & all customer service could do, was generated request ticket. Unfortunately, they couldn't even tell us when a tech would be available. ‍ So now are stuck with useless panels that don't work & a big bill from SCE. This is an unexpected & additional expense. *** in the beginning this company was pretty good... but now.... they need to do better. Since the company knew the problem existed they should have already scheduled the entire area or neighborhood for service. Couple updates about my system. One of the first things I asked was if it's a cloudy day and there's a storm coming how would the batteries be able to be charge if it's low sunlight. Was told they would charge off grid. Well, that was a lied it does not happen. The selection in the app is grayed out. It doesn't give you a choice to choose. After doing some research, it's up to the installer to give you the option to be able to do so and obviously Sunrun does not. Second of all learned that some of the clocks run off electric pulse Hz. so having batteries, you constantly have to adjust your clocks due to running off battery versus straight electricity. We are still waiting for the sales representative to come show us how to set the app. I've already stumbled through it and have set it up. Was also told that someone would be able to fix the issue with the batteries, not charging off grid that was five days ago I still haven't heard. I do have to say the system runs great when there is sunlight and your battery get charged. you can run an entire night with no electricity being off the grid but during the winter when it's cloudy and rainy, it'll be hard to get your batteries charged over 40% and you'll be on the grid using electricity read more

My experience with Sunrun has been the worst consumer experience of my life. Sunrun designed my system with Southeast panels. While this hits a "total kWh" number on paper, it produces zero energy during the 4 PM - 9 PM peak hours when electricity is most expensive. I am forced to export cheap energy in the morning and buy back expensive energy at night. The system only produces energy in the morning and stops in the afternoon leaving the battery to power the house. All the energy that it produces, your battery can only hold so much and the rest of it goes to the grid for a small price. You do not even see that energy but Sunrun counts it as production on their part. There is no "all-day production" to top off the battery for evening use leaving me at 20% battery at times. They say they guarantee it will work for 90% of what they predict but don't tell you that it is after 25 years of you having the system. Plus they designed the system on my neighbors house in the first place! Now they do not want to fix it unless I pay for it. In researching for an answer it appears they have had such horrible reviews, they're looking for their next victim. I even called them to inform them that I wasn't interested and to please dont call. We had solar for a few years an at first everything was great, now we have panels growing algea and a few broken panels. I called to have someone come out an replace them because 20yr warrantee is good until 2029. The technician came out an confirmed, "Yes these need to be replaced!" My husband an I have been calling every week to see when they are going to come out an fix an replace the panels, we get a run around. Technician came out again 4 weeks later, they replaced 3 panels that were broken but not the ones growing algea. The technician tells my husband, they shut off a few panels until they can replace them. We were told the next week we would get a call to set up a time to replace the panels. 3 weeks went by nothing, we call them and the lady we spoke to says, "Your ticket was closed out and your panels are producing now!" "No they are not we check our production an usage an they arent adding up!" "Well your panels are producing so your panels are fine!" Now I went up on our roof an the algea has gotten worse and the production of power is not even half of what we use to get the previous month or year when the panels were working properly. Its still an ongoing battle and to make it worse im told that with algea growing on the panels an with panels shut off on the house we cant pass inspection to sell our house, because al the panels need to be working. My next call is to call them back an then call California Attorney General, Im at my wits end an I think we've been more than patient for them to just honor the warranted an replace the panels as per our contract agreement. CROOKS - they don't tell you and leave out the page that states you are on the hook for 25 years with a 2.9% price increase EVERY YEAR with no way out of the contract. By the time the 25yrs is up I will have paid more for their crap service than my home. THEN I happened to check my app and I have not been getting service for a total of 4 months they never called to let us know they put in a repair request with Freedom Forever who I am now questioning them for doing business with SunRun. I was told after it's fixed I would get refunded for the months of NO SERVICE but guess what I was given some line about percentage of usage over a period of the year and they would only refund $300 when the no service period going off my monthly I should be getting around $800 and then they refused to send a check (after again I was told that was an option) and I have to trust that they will apply that credit to my bill when looking back I was given a $500 credit for an unknown reason but not 1 cent was applied to my account. Extremely aggressive in sales, sloppy in analysis. The Sunrun salesman actually very confidently spoke to say that he was "going to be" my solar supplier...as if I did not have a choice somehow. Then when Sun Run told me that my roof could only "handle" about 10 panels (which would not meet my electricity needs), I said I was not interested...but they absolutely routinely continued to beg for me to sign up with them about once a week with very persistent "don't you want to..." texting and voice mails. Even after I acted to block a Sunrun number, they popped up anyway using a different number for some time. This was very annoying...and is very much the reason I can so readily summon up the name SUNRUN among the three early companies I considered for solar. So I called a fourth company, PLUG IT IN SOLAR, for one more bid and got a professional analysis of my roof, etc. End result, 7 months later, is that I am paying nothing to DWP for electricity, I have 21 high quality panels and I am confident if I ever have a concern that it will be handled (see my separate review for PII Solar). Sunrun earns the 1-star, at best, rating for their cooker-cutter approach and boundless aggression in pursuing a sale. read more

They have admitted fault and our warranty clearly states their promise to fix it and pay for it all! But over a month later still sitting here with a soggy ceiling and ruined roof! Been a customer for over 4 years, and now worried they are going under. They stopped track the energy I produce with their system about a year ago. No one notified me and now SCEdison wants to stick me with a $1400 bill, when usually I have a minus bill monthly with SCE. I have called Sunrun over 12 times, they called me back once and left a message with info. I set up an appointment with my representative for today at 10:30 then I get an email that their phone system is down. What would a major company have no phones. Try their chat and no response. It seems like a lot of system failures and now no contact. Are they going belly up? Now I am really worried. The worst communication from a customer representative (KASEN CALLISTER) and customer services I have ever encountered dealing with a company. Started the project good. He was quick to respond and get us the info and assured us that we should be good to get panels. Once we sent the deposit and the install pre-check guy came out Kasen went MIA from any calls, email and text . when I was trying to figure out what was happening with my install. I had to call the company directly to learn we had been cancelled. He never let us know we were cancelled. Claimed to have sent an email which we never received (even check my spam, nothing.) When I asked to resend the email so I can review why, he never did. Although SunRun solar panels are pretty good. The outfits and personnel are so far out of reality. Frome the start I have not been told the truth at any given time. How long will it take to get my system running? Answer 30 days. Not!!! 4 months. If you need to install a new roof we will come out and remove and install at no charge. Wrong to R & I $5,670. What? Verbal comments are not in the contract. Same set of bullcrap when I got the second set of panels put up. The workers hooked up everything wrong they did not know their job enough to even be employed. now I am trying to get a permit for the roofing but Jurupa Valley City Hall will not give the roofing company the permit because the solar company did not get a permit to remove and install the panels. Now the solar company says they have to have a survey scheduled. letter from Sun Run; Someone will come out and get updated structural measurements of the home so we can update our plans. I'm now waiting for them to provide the site survey form then I'll call to get this scheduled. I asked how long will this take? The answer; The site survey is scheduling a week out. Updating the design plans can take approximately 1-2 months. Permits will take up to 2 weeks. As soon as I receive the site survey form we can start scheduling. Hello we are Erron and Lora De La Torre. We are reaching out to you today because we have been a victim of Costco and their affiliate program with Sunrun Solar. Three years ago we decided to get solar panels and batteries through Costco via Sunrun. We thought going through Costcos for this solar project, we would receive the same customer service and quality as in the warehouse stores. In the past we also bought our automobiles through the Costco car buying program and even though you are dealing with a private dealership. The dealership shows you the Costco special pricing list and gives the highest quality customer service. But Sunrun is the opposite... at the Costco warehouse you set up an appointment. Salesperson comes out to explain what is the best option for your home. I trust Costco so I went with Sunrun recommended, now two years later Sunrun comes out to install the solar project. You might be wondering what happened in those two years. Well there were a lot of phone calls to Sunrun and Costco. I went through 4 project managers. Resigned my loan documents three times, because the loan documents expire if the solar project is not installed within a certain time frame. At Costco it's very hard to speak to anyone in the home installation department. After the project was installed, the installers explained to us our system has permission to operate (connect to the grid) from Edison and have us sign documents on the installers iphone. This gives the ok to start financing, but we did not have permission to operate. Our home was not ready for permission to operate until 9 months later. During those 9 months we were making payments on the solar loan, but had no permission to operate from Edison. Sunrun did pay us back that part of the loan, a very small amount. Now we have a $2500 plus and of the year electric bill, when Sunrun told us you will be just paying the loan back that there will be no bill from Edison, you will be getting money back from them. I call Sunrun and Sunrun really doesn't want to be accountable for the high electric bill. Our home is only 1200 square feet and it's only us two that live at our address. No electric cars. So finally I got a hold of Costco in the home installation department. And Costco said everything looks good to them. Now because Sunrun does not want to be accountable for the salesperson,s mistake designing our solar system and misleading us. If you look at the attachments you can see month to month of our electric bill. The first month was over $800. To me it looks like the 2 Tesla batteries are costing us more money to charge them than what our house is using. With the cost of solar system loan and the year end electric bill. Now we are paying about 2.5 times for electricity. We are willing to help any news network to help other consumers to not go through Costco in home installation or Sunrun especially when Costco can't do anything if you're ripped off by their home installation partners. Technically you are buying the solar equipment from Costco, but you are not. Costco does not have anything to do with in-home installation partners. It seems that in-home installation partners are paying Costco to sell their equipment and services. If this is the case, Costco should be transparent with this information. Any more information any news media needs, we are willing to give. We thank you for your time in reading this, we just really do not want any other home owners to be taken advantage of by Costco and Sunrun and their predatory practices. After a year and a half after installing the system, I reached out to Sunrun to find out how much it would be to payoff my system. I was told by Sunrun that I couldn't pay it off for 5 years because my contract didn't allow this. I mention that I had never heard of this type of provision in a contract and did not remember this being explained. The Sunrun representative then said I could pay down the system but when asked if I could pay it down to a 1.00, without incurring interest, he could not answer my question. I contacted the Department of Consumer Oversight and they informed me that Sunrun financial practices were not licensed in California, perhaps this is why!!!! I suggested that all other contracts I recall entering into allowed a no penalty pay off agreement, she agreed this is a California practice but this company is not based in California. I intend to pursue this matter because i believe this is an unfair business practice and should be disallowed. Where should I start?! We got solar panels installed in January, the rain started and there goes our roof leaking in several spots. We contacted Sunrun and to this day we have not received any help or even a response. We are pretty much getting the run around and because we have a contract we can't remove the panels to fix the roof. This has been the worst experience. We were given a claim adjuster that to this day has not once communicated with us. I had to spend about two hundred dollars on tarps to cover the panels. If I could give 0 stars I would. I have had my solar system since 2014 and although my system was contracted through Grid Alternatives, Sunrun was the provider. I had to have my house re-roofed in May, for which Sunrun charged $5,790.00 to temporarily uninstall and reinstall the panels. Fast forward to August 2024. I now have a $927.00 electric bill. I called Sunrun, they remotely checked the system and said it was fine, I insisted they send someone out. They sent Grid Alternatives out. Long story short, Sunrun reconnected only half of the system. Sunrun had assured me I was eligible for compensation. They wanted to compensate $120.00 , not acceptable, they came back with a final offer a week later of $210.00. I also opened a case to attempt to recoup at least a portion of the fee they charged for their shoddy workmanship to which there has been no response. The savings are absolutely NOT as what they promised! When I called in to discuss, the agent that I got was HORRIBLE-doesn't call back, never wanted to receive my calls. When I asked for supervisor, they can't even do anything to support my complains. And here's my complaint: On my first year of the solar, I received a bill from SCE for $1400 and I asked them to reimburse me for Under Performance Review and they only compensated me for $690 which is less than half. After he made his spiel we decided to make a appointment to meet with him, we signed on the dotted line and yet made another appointment for a roof and attic inspection. When your been referred by the Costco's Sunrun member for a sale representative, you must be careful. My mom signed the contract with a sales representative Called Wendy she was referred to my mom by the sunrun member in the chino hills Costco location. She told my mom that there will be a $500 reward if someone referred her and that person could get the referral reward. Besides that she sales person and my mom go over the plan and sign the contract, but my mom never see the agreement until after the solar panel installed. After the solar panel install and I guess the sales person got her bonus already, so she change her attitude to rude and not professional and not wanting to pick up the phone call because we realized the discrepancy between what is mentioned in the plan and the agreement. She refused to talk to my mom and refused to explain professional why there is the discrepancy. Plus that $500 that she mentioned could be just a lie, because she never picked up the phone call, and she take advantage of her customers. I am looking for ways to report her and want to file a claim, that is not legal to lie the customer like that. He told us we would be adding multiple times then when all said and done we actually got dupped into 2 contracts with 2 payments.
