Our first observation was the number of staff hanging out..perhaps they were changing shifts, but it was distracting. Our food looked better than it tasted...everything needed more seasoning. The food at this location was very good. Though it was bland, some bites it had great flavor. Regardless of the quality of the food, the quality of the bathrooms comes to question. The bathrooms only had two stalls for such a large restaurant, and the pooping stall was both absolutely disgusting and smelly. Along side this, there was not enough room to beat my date I brought with me, but that's besides the point. Overall, this experience was very good with only some small things holding it back. Don't get to travel much due to a Bad Surgeon who performed an unnecessary colon removal surgery I have to be careful what I eat but this place is a "Hidden Gem" located in Trinidad Colorado. Our son is moving closer to us for My Heath reasons and this Outstanding Sunset Bar & Grill was one of the best accidental stops we made. It has American Food as usual but serves unique Indian Cuisine that is phenomenal and I'm not a spicy fan anymore as my stomach can't handle it but this was gentle on my stomach and probably the best Lamb Curry We've ever had. The restaurant is located in a Days Inn that has fantastic views with has some of the friendliest servers we've experienced in years. SUDEED was so helpful in recommending certain foods as my surgery does not allow me to eat too spicy of foods, this was a Godsend it was so good. You must try their homemade soups that were also delicious. Amanda was so nice and a musician playing saxophone jazz was simply relaxing. Highly recommend this place located in Trinidad at the Days Inn of all places that also offer clean older larger rooms with microwaves & fridges. We were stopping in Trinidad for the night and found Sunset Bar and Grill with very good reviews on Yelp. The good reviews were spot on. The restaurant is in the Days Inn and driving through the parking lot gave us pause, but the good reviews overcame any apprehension. We were greeted warmly, and the lobby and restaurant were sparkling clean with a spectacular view of the mountains. The staff were very friendly, polite and appreciative. Then came the food. My wife had the best tikka masala ever and still talks about it. She shared some with me, and it was the most tender chicken I've ever eaten. I had the beef filet, and it was perfectly cooked to medium rare. The locals know about the place as by the time we left a good number of others had arrived. We had the yellow lentil soup because of the ingredients list - absolutely amazing. Had wok sesame chicken and that was good, but not as great as the more homemade items. Still, phenomenal. Fourth time I've been to the Sunset Grill. All previous meals were spot on. I have heard that they lost their chef and there were definitely some misses at this meal. The naan is not quite as fabulous as it used to be. The lamb in the tandoor was tough. The rest of the dish was lovely flavors and presentation. Green curry with chicken was great flavor. Chicken a little tough and could have used a little bit more sauce. Server was a little argumentative but that may have been a language issue between him and my friend who is Eastern European. He also dropped the check and then proceeded to stand there until we gave him payment which I find very rude. Tiramisu was runny, overly sweet and just had little broken pieces of lady fingers in the soup. Overall I don't know that I will be going back anytime soon as it is rather pricey and I'm trying to save money. Having had two dishes that looked and tasted great but had overcooked components I hope that they can straighten that out. Long Post Warning To be honest, I wasn't impressed with this establishment, although we had chosen it because of its 4 1/2 star rating, so I will try and be fair in my explanation. We had been traveling all day, and stopped in Trinidad, for an overnight stay, and we were really craving some steak. We had noticed that this place was near by, and had a pretty good Yelp rating, and served steak, so off we went to get dinner. The place was easy to get too, right off the highway. As we walked in, the establishment seemed very clean, and elegant, but not to elegant to be walking in wearing jeans and a T-shirt. We proceeded to look at the menu, and two people in our part ordered the ribeye steaks (which I should have done), but I decided to order steak fried rice, along with some hot and sour soup (we'll come back to that in a moment). As we were waiting for our food, we had the opportunity to sit by the window, which gave us a beautiful view of The Sangre de Christo mountain range. I then started watching the staff, since we had a clear view of the kitchen doors. I noticed on one instance where a fork was dropped in error, which was not picked up by the person that dropped it, nor was it picked up by a waitress that looked at it, and also walked right over it, causing another waitress to almost trip over it. This could have been a disaster waiting to happen. Luckily the person that almost tripped on it, picked it up. On another instance, the same waitress that walked over the fork on the floor, also brought us an empty bottle of steak sauce (literally empty). You could tell this particular waitress either didn't care about her job to much or she was family (it was that noticeable) Now back to the food - I was told that the steaks had come out spectacular. However, I was not so fortunate with my Hot and Sour soup, and steak fried rice. Let's start with my soup, which was thick and had a dark consistency similar to that of gravy. And anyone that has had Hot and Sour soup knows that it should have a somewhat clear consistency, so you can see the tofu, chives, ad other ingredients. The taste/spices was also off the mark as well, not sure what they were thinking when they made it, kind of had a hint of Indian spices. Now the steak fried rice - Usually, when you think of any fried rice, you think of rice nicely blended in with your choice of meat. Well, I was brought a bowl of chopped up steak, with the vegetables, again in a thick sauce, with a separate small bowl of rice. The steak was edible, but certainly was no steak fried rice. Again, there seemed to be spices in there that may have been a hint of Indian. I guess in summary, if your looking for a good steak, I would say this is the place to go to, from what I was told by my wife, and friend. I stopped for the night and decided to stay at the Days Inn, and this restaurant is part of the hotel, I was seated immediately, the atmosphere was casual, there was a saxophone player already playing music, the service was fast and friendly, I got the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly , medium rare and had an excellent taste to it, the prawns were large, fresh, and cooked perfect, very tasty, I was too full to order dessert , but from what I've heard the desert is just as good as the main course, sat at the bar for drinks, the bartender,AJ, was fast friendly, and easy to talk to, I would recommend this place, definitely stop here and try the food it's wonderful, the chef even came out and greeted everyone to make sure that they were happy with the food that they got . read more

Wow. Just wow. Delicious and we have added Sunset Bar & Grill to our list of fav stops while on the road. Like another reviewer, I wasn't sure what to expect especially as we walked into the building in which SB&G is located. First you walk past the Days Inn registration desk. Then you walk through the Days Inn breakfast area, complete with orange juice machines.. As I'm walking into the restaurant I'm thinking uhhhh how did I end up picking a motel restaurant..?!? But then once inside Sunset, I notice the pretty view of the mountains, over which we got to see the sunset for reals. Then the server arrived. She was friendly and used techniques you usually see in higher end restaurants - knowledgeable about the menu, memorizing your order, providing guidance as needed. We'd started with an appetizer of spring rolls, which were served jauntily arranged in a cup of crunchy rice noodles. I ordered the tikka chicken and when she asked the question of spiciness (mild, medium or hot?) we began to ask for context - in some parts of the country, other people's "hot" is my "mild". She then told us that the chefs were from India so the hot can be pretty hot. That last tidbit of information explained the deliciousness of the curry - it was authentic and delicious, served with perfect jasmine rice. I wish I'd taken photos, because it was beautifully served in intricate Indian brass serving dishes. Definitely order some naan to go with it - both varieties (butter or garlic) are great. Another of our party had tandoori chicken, served on naan with an intricately arranged fresh side garnish of a lettuce and red onion salad. It was artistic and exceptionally tasty. By the way, if you regularly eat spicy food, you'll probably want the hot .. we chickened out and went for medium, which was really good, but mild enough for us to realize the hot was probably more our style. Next time! Other dining partners had street tacos or a special version of street tacos made with naan instead of tortillas. All delicious. We left feeling like this place was a hidden gem, staffed by people determined to make excellent food served beautifully. Don't let the stroll through Days Inn deter you. It's Trinidad, after all. It wouldn't be an authentic Trinidad meal if it weren't a little quirky. We will definitely be stopping again next road trip. Curry FTW!! It's a five star restaurant hidden inside the gross looking Days Inn. Don't be alarmed! You will find yourself pleasantly surprised. The buttered chicken and fresh naan were seriously top notch. I have traveled all over the United States and love to try out the best Indian food. This one was one of the very best. I was very pleasantly surprised. My wife suggested that we drive out to Trinidad from Santa Fe and have lunch at the Sunset Bar and grill. The restaurant is located at a Days inn but do not let that put you off. I have never had better Indian food and I have been to India multiple times. The waiter (AJ?) was a wonderful person to deal with and the whole staff took incredible care of us. Chef Kannan dropped by the table to say hello as well and was a wonderful, friendly addition to an already amazing experience. The chicken tikka was mind blowing and my wife's curry dish was just as incredible. The garlic naan was delicious! We tried their homemade peppermint ice cream and it couldn't have been a better finish to a delicious meal. Totally worth the drive. This is a fairly nice Wyndham hotel and I'm glad they have a new restaurant on the premises Although a bit pricey, I ate several of their meals offered here. The menu is fairly large but at the top to me is the rib eye. Hands down, it was tender and I ate every bite.... Vegetables were nice . They have a few kinks to work out but the food is solid. I had the desert platter as well and found it interesting The shrimp I had was cooked perfectly with a delicious sauce.. The staff was helpful and friendly I'm keeping a star for the really overpriced items but having it close by and delivered to your room was 10% off. Was not asked about a further serving and we didn't inquire. Bartender went missing either because the place was short staffed or he didn't care. Service was struggling, got it done but took no extra opportunities to make money and clearly didn't love the job. The overall ambiance is wrong, as if this is owner's first restaurant and had never previously worked in one. It's not warm and inviting, absolutely did not want to stay. The are no window shades and the restaurant was warm and the light was too much. This is the cutest little restaurant inside of a days inn. Seriously adorable. We got the calamari, mushroom soup, and Manchurian chicken. All were delicious. The calamari batter was like the kind you'd find on fried fish? Like for fish and chips? And the "hot sauce" that came with it, wasn't really hot. Just a yummy, tomato based sauce with a very slight kick. The batter on the calamari leads me to believe their fish and chips are probably great, although we didn't try it. Step son got the Alfredo which was good. Husband got the butter chicken which was super tasty. I got the paneer dish, which is probably the best paneer dish I've ever had. They included a lemon wedge with it, that accented the flavors well. It was supposed to come with a mint chutney and I got kind of a peppered spring mix instead. I have been meaning to review this precious addition to Trinidad's restaurants since dining there a few weeks ago. I was surprised at the high quality of the food and service, given that it is next to a budget hotel. The salmon was flown in fresh, not frozen, that day. So this place is so confusing. Pictures of food looked amazing, reviews are all great. Indian and Asian...some Italian dishes..a little bit of everything. So we decided to go for it. When you get there, there are no signs. I don't know how they get business other than from yelp or google. It's literally in the Days Inn motel. You have to walk through the lobby and breakfast area for the motel. And then it's like a nice restaurant! They had a $1200 bottle of wine! What the hell. Food was reasonably priced. The staff were incredible. I'm pretty sure our waiter came from a white tablecloth kind of restaurant. Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. and then, we were greeted by the chef! Don't let the location fool you! I was a bit weary about it being located inside of a Days Inn but I am glad I read other reviews that had the same concern. It is definitely a hidden gem. I had a lychee martini that was absolutely delicious and had two large lychees inside! My appetizer was the cheese naan bread that was very savory and a perfect start to my meal. The menu is very vast and the items range in various international cuisines. I had the chefs special which was Pad Thai and it was super flavorful with the right amount of spice. It was such a large serving that I had plenty to take home. The other people in my party got the salmon and the pork loin steak both of which they enjoyed.
