My entire home was renovated. Wayne (the owner) from Sunset Glass had significant revneue from my job. Everything was fine except my new bathroom window was never properly sealed. Wayne came back to investigate and supposedly "fixed" the problem. Soon thereafter, the leak continued and the moulding began to rot. After several calls, Wayne came back again and promised a solution. In addition, I offered Wayne incremental business by replacing some of my wooden kitchen shelving for glass. From that point forward, Wayne NEVER returned a call. He had excuse after excuse and always gave the impresssion that he would be "on top of it" within a day or two. He gave me a quote for the incremental business but has since been ignorant regarding this contract. Its been over 2 years and I have called at least 15 times since. I am not asking for anything other than a correction for inadequuate work and a solution to a promise; which was acknowledeged and admitted. I have never had a contractor that lied so blatantly and that has never returned a phone call. Sunset was initially contracted by a very high end designer (Studio Mehler). In total, my renovation exceeeded $300k. I can not think of any excuse for a small business owner to treat a high-end client with such disrespect. To this day, the problem is not solved and my moulding is completely rotted in an otherwise beautiful limestone bathroom. If Sunset does not respond to this final complaint, I wish that no one else ever experiences such horrible customer service and complete disregard for a contractor's responsibilities. After 2+ years, I have finally given up and I will hire 3rd party contractor to complete the job that Sunset has determined unworthy of their time or effort. I will gladly take any phone calls to discuss the lack of respect that I've received from the receptionists and the total lack of professionalism from the owner of this business. My only hope is that Wayne will somehow make good on his workmanship and allow me the opportunity to remove this horrible review. Please NEVER wotj with this company. I would rate them a zero star given the option. We were referred to this place so we could have a leaky window repaired. During our first call they said they were busy due to the storms and would call back the next day. Since they did not call back, we called them. Same response, "we are busy and will call you tomorrow". It's been over a week. My suggestion would be to go somewhere else. read more

Wow, I really wanted to support a neighborhood business. I'm a former customer who called to put in some additional windows previously measured. the lady handling calls said she's check my file. No call. I called back, repeated my story to see if prior measurements were on file, no call back. Called a third time and she checked while I was on hold, told me they didn't have the records, so they would call me back to set an appointment. No call and it's been two weeks. Non responsive, poor customer service, repairs always require follow up. I am forced to use this company because my building owner where I rent has a relationship here. In order to get anyone to respond to even making an appointment it is like pulling teeth. Today I called to follow up on an appointment request. The woman who I spoke with was rude and condescending. " We are extremely busy and I passed your message on........." to no other than the owner of the business Wayne. If it was up to me I would never use this company. They act is if your a bother. They are non responsive and offer really poor service. Its hard to imagine why they have several five stars. My thought here is, if you going to commit to a big job whereby they are going to make a bunch of money , they might make a call back . But if you are looking for a repair they just seem not to care seem to not care. This is not a tone time experience, it is on going and has been over the four years I have lived in my apartment. We have had several windows replaced ( poor installation ) , and just a lack of : we can't be bothered. read more

I'm a very patient & busy person or I would've wrote this sooner. I don't recommend this company. I called because they had done some work for me previously on the same window with the same problem. It took 2 weeks to get a call back. Then, Eric came out to replace the 2 bars on the side of the bathroom window in September 2013. He tried to talk me into buying a whole new window, etc. but I just wanted the bars replaced. He did the job and the window worked wonderfully for 2 weeks. Then, the window started to become hard to lower. I called and asked to have the work checked or corrected. They were resistant until I asked if they guarantee their work. Eric came out and my son let him in again only to have him insult my window that is in good condition by telephoning me and calling it a "junky old window" and trying to sell me a $500 one. I admonished his tactlessness and he left without ever touching the window. I called and spoke with Wayne (the owner?) and he decided to come out himself. He said he would replace them. I called 2 weeks later inquiring and he said he ordered the parts and will install them when they arrive. He never called back. About a month later, I called him and left a message with the lady that answers the phone. Being patient, I called back again in 2 days. Then, after a 3rd attempt...I resigned to just writing about my experience. Each time I called she said he would call me back, but he never did and never repaired the problem. I would say that customer service, service with a smile, and satisfaction guaranteed are not practiced at Sunset Glass Company. read more

We believe in supporting neighborhood businesses so we went to Sunset Glass to get an estimate for replacing a large glass window in our living room. We strongly suggest that the woman at the desk be given some customer relations training. Her rude and dismissive attitude drove us away. read more

Used this place for many years but have always had poor response, hence the two stars. When you desperately need new hinges, cranks and new double panes of glass for your windows, you have to play the waiting game with this business. Nice people, but either overwhelmed with business or just poor at managing the customers they have. If one didn't have to constantly follow-up with them, they'd get four stars from us. read more

This place is very good and helpful. They told me how to remove the double paned window and bring it in for replacement, saving me a lot of money. Having some one come to the house is where the money starts to go up. The also saved me hundreds of dollars on getting my screens replaced. The other place wanted $300 to come out and do the measurements. Sunset Glass told me to bring in the old screens, or measure it myself, which I did. After getting turned down by several mobile repair people who probably thought my job was too small, I removed the aluminum frame and they replaced the glass and damaged window screen in an hour. Sunset Glass has been my go-to window and glass store since 2004. They have always done a great job. I have worked my way through my 1937 home replacing all the single pane windows with double pane. Whenever I've had a concern about a seal or a possible leak, Wayne or one of his employees has come to take a look. More often than not there was nothing to be concerned about but they came and checked and put my mind at ease. I appreciate their great service and I am glad to be a customer. read more

Eric at Sunset Glass was personable, fast and reliable. A kitchen window in my apartment got broken. I needed to get it replace immediately. It was raining and I needed to get to work and my cat used that window to go outside. I didn't tell him all this before but I was mostly concerned about my cat getting hurt. He said he would be at my apartment in a half hour. He arrived in a half hour and removed the broken glass and measured the window. He left and said he would be back in a half hour and he came back in a half hour. Wow I was amazed that it went so smoothly. Sunset Glass just completed a job at my house - 4 windows with lots of wood rot. The work was started 2 weeks after we signed an agreement. The price was VERY reasonable - much less than 2 other companies! A very experienced team of 2 men came to start the job promptly at 8:30am and they finished the whole thing by 5:30pm including a perfect cleanup. I feel confident in the work that was performed - I watched the whole process. Wayne was terrific and came by a few time during the day to oversee the work. My wife and I cannot say enough positive things about Sunset Glass and the team that works there. We were in a rush to have glass cut to put on top of four antique dressers and chest drawers and Sunset delivered with a smile and at a very competitive price. Too bad Sunset Glass employs a lady answering the phone who has an unprofessional attitude. My experience calling Sunset Glass was identical to many other reviewers. The lady answering my call first sounded genuinely concerned, saying that she said she could give me a rough quote if I gave her the window measurements. But, it turned out she was only leading me on. After spending more than 10 mins. on the phone giving her measurements, she snapped at me, saying it sounded as if I were giving her window measurements, not those of the glass. I reminded her that she had offered to give me a rough quote anyway. This seemed to set her off and she suddenly said she had someone in the showroom whom she was waiting on, that she did not have time to talk with me, and that she would call me back the next Monday. That was 5 weeks ago. I also sent follow up e-mails, which were ignored because I received no response. Too bad this business's public contact person has such a smelly, off-putting attitude. How do they keep any business? Perhaps I could bypass this unpleasant person, but this has apparenlty been going on for several years, based on prior Yelp reviews. I'll try another company. Other companies offer a very friendly interaction and professional estimates. That's the way business works. Horrible company! read more

Wayne & his staff @ Sunset Glass are great. If you don't know your best options & want your windows installed properly (so they don't leak afterwards), you should talk to Wayne. Wayne is highly knowledgeable, competent & honest (he'll tell you if you don't need new windows). He would also come out to your place to measure your windows and advise you on the available window options & what type of window would be suitable to your needs. Best of all, Sunset Glass will handle all the required window permits for you, and many times, Wayne pleasantly surprises us with the speed by which he can get the windows or shower doors delivered & installed. We use Sunset Glass for our windows, shower doors & enclosures, replacement glass (they can cut any size you want) and window screens. We have also seen some of our neighbors get Sunset Glass to install their glass balcony railings (tons nicer looking but just as functional as regular wood panel railings). You can just get the windows & shower doors from Sunset Glass with or without installation, and we've done it both ways. Either way, Wayne is happy to work with you. read more

After spending hours leaving multiple voice mails and emails with half a dozen other companies, waiting hopelessly for a response, Sunset Glass Company was the ONLY company who answered the phone. The receptionist was very professional and friendly (seems there has been some training on this point, as it was the only cause for prior negative reviews). She called me back moments later to confirm a same-day appointment for an estimate, to which the guy arrived precisely on time. I got a verbal quote for a reasonable price. The glass had to be ordered as a custom cut for a double pane, and arrived just four business days later. I received a morning phone call asking for an installation appointment - was given a 1-hour window; the installer (different guy) also arrived exactly on time, was professional and courteous, and did a fabulous job with the install. Written invoice matched exactly with the verbal quote. This is a great company with excellent customer service start to finish; in fact, they could have charged me more since NO OTHER COMPANIES ever answered their phone or called me back!! My son accidentally broke a double-paned window late at night and I called Sunset Glass around 8am the next morning to get it fixed. The young woman who answered the phone was friendly and knew all the right questions to ask me to give me an accurate estimate. Although her plan was to call me right back with a time for a workman to come out, I ended up calling back an hour later to find out what was up. The man who answered (Eric) knew who I was and said he was just about to call me. He asked if "now was a good time". I was thrilled and he was at my house in minutes to measure and assess the situation. He put in an order on the spot, and someone else came by the next day to fix the broken panes. It took less than an hour, the work looked good, the three people I dealt with were friendly, and the final price was at the very low end of the estimate I had been given. I've dealt with these people twice now, so I've given them a second chance and was still disappointed with their overall service. The woman who answers the phone, if she's having a bad day or doesn't like your tone, you obviously get sent to the back of the bus, the end of the queue, the bottom of the list. I had learned my glass had come in several days before it was installed, and the installers didn't have a good answer for me as to why it had come in so many days before they were able to schedule it for installation at my home. After explaining about my previous inquiry, the way they looked at each other with shaking heads explained everything, and it was apparent they would not dare to admit why. After they left, I didn't think about it until a construction friend of mine, whose specialty was far from glass installation, couldn't help but comment on the sloppy installation work. They may be the only game in town in the Outer Sunset, but that doesn't mean you have to put up with any of their maltreatment, poor workmanship, or other baloney they have to offer.
