I noticed Sunset Grill next door. I made a mental note of it and had a late lunch there on Saturday. I parked steps away from the place. There is plenty of parking. I walked in. I saw the sign to seat yourself. I did just that. My first impression was the service. I sat there for five minutes without getting a menu. One server came over and said hi, asked how I was, and then walked away. I still didn't have a menu. Forget about asking for cutlery. I walked in at around 2 pm. There were roughly five tables with folks dining. I wouldn't consider it to be overly hectic. There was a woman sweeping the floors the whole time while I waited for a menu. Interesting. Another server came over and asked what I'd like to drink. Since I visit Sunset Grill fairly regularly, I went with a Diet Coke. When my Diet Coke and glass with ice came, I got a menu. It seemed a bit backwards. Anyway, I was pleased to finally get a menu and decide what I wanted to have. I ordered my usual, which is three slices of French toast, with a side order of corned beef hash. I got brown toast. My meal took no time to make. I was hungry and happy to have food in front of me. The food quality is consistent with Sunset Grill. This place makes French toast so well that you get extra fried egg that is hanging off each slice. I love the extra snack! The corned beef hash had nice crispy parts. So flavourful! I was happy. I asked for the bill. Normally, you pay at the front counter. The server actually came over with a machine, as I used my credit card. It was a nice touch. I also got a lollypop. The women's washroom is a single stall. It was clean and you get a hook on the door. I am hoping that service can improve here. Otherwise, it's a good place to have a late lunch on the weekend. (165)

My server today, actually the only server taking care of the entire dining room, Harry (name on the chit), did an exceptional job and is worthy of recognition. They were WAY too runny for me. 2nd plate came back and it was exactly what I had asked for! I love their fresh cut home fries! Had a nice hot cup of coffee with my breakfast. My kids both ordered: Three eggs scrambled with home fries and bacon. Huge generous portions compared to a couple of other local breakfast spots (which is why this one is our fav!). It's my go-to meal. I do branch our more at Sunset Grill, as I love the variety and food. I got my meal fairly quickly. The problem? I got two slices of French toast instead of three. Yes, my minor in math does come in handy! My server may have been super busy, but she also noted that something was wrong with my order and came back without my flagging her. She apologized, took my plate, and a few minutes later, I got all three pieces of French toast. Nice! As expected, I enjoyed my French toast and sausage links. I find that all three Sunset Grill eateries that I have been to make consistent, delicious food. The hours of operation at this restaurant tend to stay open longer than the ones that I have been to. It has a great classic 50's American style ambiance, complete with posters, paraphernalia and non-working jukeboxes. Some people think that the jukeboxes work because I found a quarter stuck on top of one once. (I don't check the jukeboxes each time I go though, there may be more stuck quarters there). The colour scheme puts you in a joyous mood and the all day breakfast is outstanding!!! I honestly would have given this a five stars, but one of my loves, the home fries seems to have changed. I so loved the old home fries' mix of herbs and spices, whatever it was that made it taste like amazing home fries, as well as the crunchiness on the outside coupled with the soft texture on the inside. Another reason this place does not have a perfect rating is because, it seems, while seated at the back of the diner, did we not get such attentive service. I was dying for a coffee refill or two, but did not get any even after I was done my meal and was eyeing all the servers and waving my hands. So yea, quick coffee refills is really integral to good service. Anyway, about the home fries, the last home fries I had was mushy and just tasted like plain potato. When I asked for peanut butter for the toast, he got it right away. Same for when I asked for extra napkins. And to top it off he came to refill out water not once but twice without me asking. What set him apart was, he not only gave us extremely great service, but I observed him treat all the other customers with the same level of service as well. All done with a warm and greeting smile.
