This is a really cool park by the water. It's huge with lots of walking paths and lots of fields for playing sports, including soccer. I saw a lot of people enjoying the water on standup paddle boards. Blackberries are absolutely everywhere and in season and perfectly ripe. We ate too many of them. There also is a very big dog park on the grounds. Plenty of parking too. read more

I never knew this park existed and I'm shocked it took me this long to visit this place! Magnuson Park contains four miles of walking trails and encompasses a total of 350 acres making it Seattle's second largest park. There are multiple parking lots spread throughout the park with walking access to off-leash dog parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and baseball fields. When we were here there was a good amount of parking but I'm guessing it probably gets packed during the summer and weekends. A short walk away is the swimming beach which has views of Lake Washington. The facilities are nice and there are restrooms and porta-potties throughout. You can reserve the picnic tables on their website. Overall this is a very peaceful and quiet park and this is definitely a park that I'll come back to and explore more of because it's huge. read more

This is a great park and playground for everyone! Fields galore, paths, an extensive playground, and enclosed leash-free dog park all in one. The fields and playground are quiet in the early mornings, plenty of parking and full of people walking dogs. It's a great park for social distancing and Covid-friendly ease. The playground has space for toddlers to explore and play, and kids to enjoy as they continue to grow. Even teenagers and the parents and caregivers can enjoy a fun time at the playground. Definitely a spot to return to! read more

We have been going to Magnuson park for the past 30 years and have always loved it. It's a great open space, friendly people, organized boat launch... until recently. This year, we went to the park multiple times and have had horrible encounters. There are people all over the park, drinking, smoking pot, blasting music so much you cannot hear the person right next to you, parking in no parking areas, parking on the grass with the car stereos blasting, garbages overflowing and garbage on the ground, no one respecting others, porta potties overflowing and not clean at all. After the first time of this happening on Mother's Day, we were hoping the Fourth of July would be better because we know that authorities are always there, not this year. It was HORRIBLE. We had young children in our group, even they were concerned for their safety. We tried again in mid July, the same thing happened. We called authorities multiple times due to people speeding, blocking the boat launch, riding quads around dangerously... when the authorities finally showed up, they said nothing could be done! In the video, you see cars parked in the area designated for the boat launch, where trailers need to drive through. There is barely room for our truck/trailer to go by. Cars are parked in the areas for boaters to park and rig up their boats/jet skis. Cars are blocking the launch where trailers are trying to get their boats in and out of the water. This is not safe! There was lots of space to park in the main parking lot AND the overflow parking lots. Again, we LOVED this place, but sadly, we won't be back until it's cleaned up. read more

I love this large park in NE Seattle. At sunset you can hear the frogs/toads singing/croaking, and there are a myriad of birds for the ornathology enthusiasts. There are several little alcoves where you can access the water and even a beach for swimming. Right now during the stay at home order, the parking lots are closed to prevent crowds, and the park closes at 8. The boat launch is not accessible (it is behind the gate that is closed to automobiles) but you can walk from Sand Point Way NE if you want to get down to the park these days. There are accessible restrooms here and picnic tables, plus loads of grassy areas to enjoy 6 feet away from others. read more

I love this dog park; my dogs and I are regulars, and we live 30 minutes away. It has a wide open area and places to walk that lead to different areas for the dogs to play in. One area leads to the river, and lots of dogs swim there. All dogs are off-leash, and I've never seen a fight. There are lots of bags in case you forget yours or run out. Parallel walking trails, but dogs have to be on a leash there. Around 12 pm-2 pm, all the dog walkers take their 8-10 dogs each, so it is bustling then. Don't let your dogs drink the water. The water is contaminated with algae that can be toxic to dogs like at Green Lake. All in all, this is #2 best dog park in Washington. read more

This park is huge!! It's easy to get lost here and hard to find your party if you don't know their exact location. I like that there are so many apple trees and berry bushes here. You can pick the apples and eat the berries, but they weren't ripe enough during the time we went. Since the park located on the edge of Lake Washington, you can go swimming here, or rent a boat, so we did the latter. There is even a lifeguard here with designated areas for swimming. I saw lots of people here having barbecues, or just walking around getting some exercise. read more

This park is so huge for your dog to roam the wildlife while having lots and lots of dogs running around. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and just about all the dogs were well behaved/friendly. There's a bunch of water fronts that you can let your dog play in. It was a super pretty day outside to be at the dog park. This is one of the best dog parks I've seen. I highly recommend checking this park out. read more

This is our favorite dog park to take our pup to! There is plenty of space for your dog to run around and there's even a little cafe with dog treats and human treats near the entrance! The park has a small/shy dog area, which is great for puppies and dogs struggling with socializing. Although it can get a bit muddy, it is so well-maintained and the people that come here are very mindful of keeping the park clean. There's plenty of water bowls and fresh water nearby. If you run out of poop bags, there are multiple poop bag dispensers around the park. Parking is ample and your dog will surely be exhausted after some time here. read more

Fun in the sun without large crowds. A short drive away from the University District on Sand Point Way is Magnuson Park. I decided to make a foray to Magnuson due to the recent sunny weather we are currently experiencing. Unlike Alki or Golden Gardens, the crowds here are not too bad. Parking is not too difficult either. Of course, the lots near the water are more crowded. But there is an overfill lot a short walk away if needed. You could also park at the side of the road in some areas too. Magnuson is the second largest park in Seattle at 350 acres and has a lot to offer. It has sports fields as well as areas for beach type activities including swimming and boating as there is a boat launch area here. This is also a good place to take a walk, though nothing like the hiking trails at Discovery Park. A walk here is mostly under the sun. While it is by the water, it is not really much of a beach as the area next to the lake was grassy. You need sand to constitute a beach in my opinion. Also much of the landscape by the water is nature untouched. Thus, you will see a lot of rugged yellowing grass here. If you are looking for a place by the water to visit for sunbathing, swimming or boating, Magnuson fits the bill well. read more

This park is HUGE. A lot of fun outside. Plan to do a lot of walking. I volunteered for Springfest and came to the park for the first time. There were people everywhere. I don't know if that's the norm for the park or if that was for the festival. The park has literally acres of lawn and sports fields. It's next to the water and sailboat lessons were being offered. Multiple groups of people were sighted riding bikes. This is also a dog friendly park. There were rock climbing walls too. The park was clean. The parking lot was really big but packed in. Another beautiful Seattle city park! I came here thinking I could see the soundgarden but it seems to be on a different property and you cannot reach it in this park unless the gates on the pathway is open and unlocked. I was here on a Saturday and everything was closed up so I had to pass up on going to see them but I managed to get a good picture of them. Besides that this park has lots of great features. I love the airplane fin portion of the park. It is very artful and unique as well as the children's park which has some really cool sculptures. The park has a wonderful wetlands section that you can walk through (and get lost in in a good way), a very big and long strip of a leash free dog area which is fantastic. You also get some great views of Lake Washington too and there is a boat drop here as well so you can go boating in the lake. They have a huge sports field which is awesome. This park really seems to have just about everything actually. There is plenty of parking. There are several parking lots throughout the park so you can park on whichever side you are going to be closest to (or in the middle of the park if you wish). I visit the U-District fairly often and the drive to Warren Magnuson isn't too bad from that neighborhood. You don't encounter major streets with a lot of traffic congestion. The directions to get here via GPS aren't too confusing and fairly straightforward ( unlike what I encounter when I try to go to Discovery Park... I always get lost trying to go there even with the GPS). read more

Large park offers something for everyone. There are wooded areas for wandering, beaches for swimming, sports fields for sportsballers, a dog park for woofers, and a lot more. Lake Washington, sunset skies, views of Rainier...this place has a lot going on. Pro tip: the garden of sound for which the band Soundgarden is named is here. The whole park is on the grounds of a former Naval Air Station. Some of that land is still federal property used by NOAA. The sound garden is on the NOAA property, but they'll let you in to see it if you drive up and tell the gate guard that you want to see it. Go on a windy day! read more

I feel so much love for this park. I come here almost every week for a running race. There are plenty going on! You can find also divers on winter! Can you imagine? There's a beach to enjoy on summer (or winter as they do ). It is very near one of the parking lots. Restrooms are very clean and in that same area. Go to the left part from there and you will find the tennis courts. Or when you are driving to this heart area, you can park on one of the firsts parking lots and take one of those courts. Then, you can walk through the path to one of their trails. And if you keep.moving, you will find some fields where you can play soccer. There's also another part -if you don't come in from the Park entrance and keep driving- where you can park too and go to any of the Hangar activities. Just be sure to look for the correct date first. Walk all over. The view is so gorgeous. I am really amazed there are plenty of great spots in the area. read more

I play soccer here pretty regularly. I do enjoy the large parking lot and the brightly lit soccer fields. The field numbering is a little hard to figure out but easier than some. I enjoy hearing the frogs croak in the summer. If you are not careful you can lose your ball in the moaty side lines. This park is large so if you don't know exactly where you are going its easy to get lost. There are ton of things here including the Seattle Musical Theater (which I recently checked out for the first time and highly recommend), the Mountaineers and who knows what else. I also come here frequently to participate in 5ks and other various running races. This I do not recommend here. These courses are never well marked and rarely anywhere close the distance promised. They also seem to have various starting places which lead to my confusion and the parking is very congested even though most of these races are pretty small. When I see possible future races where this is the course location I now try to skip over these after multiple bad course experiences. They do have a frequent series here which may be better orchestrated. read more

I love coming here in the summertime! There is so much space and grass for a picnic/bbq and you can also set up a volleyball net to play as well. Parking can be tricky once it fills up, but there are other lots in the area. I would say the park gets busy, but it's so big that it doesn't necessarily feel that way. I've spent many summer days hanging out at this park because it's close enough to home and it's just a great place to be in the summer. It's right on the water, and there are clean bathrooms too. They have summer concerts and movies here too I think. It's dog friendly and there's a dog park too, but I haven't been there in awhile. Beautiful park with grills to reserve, boat docks, walking trails, and a vast land for sports, Magnuson Park fills the needs of every active Seattleleite. Only having been here a few times, I never knew there were blackberry hedges in the field on the North end of the park near the tall trees. After having picked 30 minutes worth of berries, I'll never complain about the price again. It takes an immense amount of blood and sweat working around the thorny bushes. The berries are edible and sweet; I haven't hived or had to see the doctors, so the berries are pretty legit. Great for major holidays and large party events. read more

Unfortunately I'm going to have to give this beautiful park/ off leash dog park a bad review. We were there today for the first time and two of our dogs got the pads on all four paws shredded down a layer or two on the gravel from running and playing (there was blood involved here and they are in pain, poor babies). I feel so bad for them and would've never thought it would be an issue other wise I wouldn't have let them run so hard after the ball. They've been doctored up and will heal but it will take a week or two. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE LETTING YOUR DOGS RUN HERE. read more

This was my first visit to the park during the day for the Margarita Run (normally I visit the indoor soccer arena) and this park is da bomb! Plenty of space with everything you can imagine. Gorgeous park along Lake Washington that offers just about everything you could want in a park. There are off-leash areas for pet owners, beach front parts for water access for swimming, launch zones for boats and kayaks, and more. Inside the park itself there are event spaces to rent for weddings and parties, there's a rock climbing gym, there's bike rentals, boat rentals, kayak rentals, paddle boarding, and so on. I've been here many times for various 5k races, events, to go kayaking, to go on a picnic with friends, and to take dogs on walks. A great park to visit if you're up for an activity but not a great park if you're looking for lots of green grass or playgrounds for kids. It exists here but this park is ideal for biking, walking, and water activities. read more

There is literally (and I mean that literally) something for everyone here. There's an off-leash dog park that I think is one of the biggest in Seattle - with both a "large" and "small" dog section and also a fun spot down by the water. Then there's the billion sports fields, all of which have been upgraded significantly (many with the nice artificial turf) since I long-ago played Ultimate Frisbee and constantly twisted my ankle in the divets. There's a public boat launch, lots of "beach" (or what passes for it in Seattle) and even tennis courts galore. Then there's a bunch of buildings that have been repurposed and now serve as indoor (!) beach (sand!) volleyball courts or kids arena soccer or gymboree. There's a big outdoor playground with spaces you can reserve for picnics (shelters, BBQs). They even have a "low" basketball hoop my kid loves. There's even a large indoor gymnasium that they turn into a fun room for little kids on most Fridays. And next to the gym are racquetball (or squash) courts you can reserve I think. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of stuff that goes on (arts, crafts, music, festivals, etc) - but it's one of the best things in all of Seattle. Nice work turning a former military base into something everyone can use. read more

Magnuson Park is a gem in Seattle. I love this park and I can't believe I hadn't been before last year. The views are wonderful and it's just peaceful and a great place. The park hosts a series of runs throughout the Spring and Summer which have reasonable entry fees. There are several fields where people play soccer and other games. There's a boat launch. You can see Mt. Rainier. There is a dog park. Parking is free throughout the park. It is fairly muddy a lot of the time which is kind of a downer but not a big deal if you're careful to avoid the muddy areas on the trails and in the grass. Love this park! read more

I don't have a dog but have come to this park with friends that do. I have birded here on several occasions while the dogs run rampant. It is a fine birdwatching spot that doesn't really stir up many rarities. It gets bonus points for its large size and more for the the art sculpture which Soundgarden took their name from. I wish this off-leash park was closer to my house! It makes my dusty, plain neighborhood dog park look like a scene from a Clint Eastwood movie. It's nice and green, lengthy walking trails for you and your pooch. Because it's a bigger park, you rarely run into any dog-on-dog issues of any kind. (I mean fighting; although we know there are...other concerns that come up as well...) If your dog likes to swim, then make sure you head there EARLY in the day--otherwise, it smells like "Waterworld" would have--if it was filmed only with dogs. WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING/SHOES. Even if your dog doesn't jump on others, or shake their fur out by people, OTHER PEOPLE'S DO. There is nothing worst than seeing an errant person get annoyed because somebody's dog shakes out water/mud by them. They're dogs. It's what they do. If you forget your ball or other water toy, others are only too glad to share with you! Drinking water, hoses to rinse out your pup, free poop bags--all the doggie amenities. On another note, I play soccer here as well. The parking lot is GREAT for weekday games and for once, the parking is located near the fields. Port-a-potties are strategically located all around the parking lot/field for those of us that sit in traffic for hours to get to a game. (Other playfields make going to the restroom feel like punishment sometimes, amiright?) The turf fields are clean; the nets are nearly whole. I do wish the city would throw down for some bleachers for us to set our stuff on though. On a last note, make time to walk around the buildings you see off in the distance. I love this park. I always find new areas to play in on each visit. It seems like a secluded area but has the acreage to be a huge full day of activity. Picnic area, kite areas, beaches, the dog park, a wonderful playground, etc. There is just so much there to enjoy. We've spend a lot of time in the playground, trying all the updated equipment and they have the nice padded floor under all the playground equipment. Plus there is a Gymboree nearby, supposedly the good one. And you get to watch the dogs coming and going, which kids love. And there is a 7 Eleven right outside to grab a slurpee after all the fun.
