An excellent and very professional range. They run this place really tight. All shooting is done with a trainers who follow very strict rules for customers. The trainer assigned to us was fantastic, he was entertaining and a true professional. I was relieved to know that no one is allowed to handle the weapons without strict supervision. Being there with family members I was a bit concerned about irresponsible people holding guns. After seeing how much care they take to keep everyone safe I would definitely return to this place again. I will admit it was fun shooting multiple types of guns and feeling the power of these tools. Went as a family of four. Found all the staff friendly. The instructor was patient with the beginners in our group (all but one of us) and made suggestions on the best guns to try. Super friendly and knowledgeable instructors here! I went with a group of 4 girls who never shot before and we had a BLAST from the beginning with joking around with the extremely nice cashier to our AMAZING instructor, Tiny. I love that they hire retired military personnel and Tiny really knew his stuff because as you can see from the picture, I hit my target 5/6 times on my first try at shooting. I give all credit to him because he showed and explained how to shoot, had us do it without bullets, and then with bullets. Even when he saw my friend get tense and nervous, he was patient and had her shake off the nerves and made sure we had fun the whole time. He also went out of his way to take pictures for us and even that awesome selfie with the AK47. They also have a wide range of guns that Tiny was able to suggest for us. PROS: Best shooting range I've ever been to. Lots of parking, friendly staff, has every gun under the sun lock and loaded. You only pay for the rounds, not anything else. Has a nice little gift shop, and is very punctual on CDC guidelines. CONS: I wish they included more ammo in a bundle. normal prices could be 6 rounds for $18. if they upped that to at least 10 bullets I think that would be better. We were a group of 7 ... it was my nephews birthday so I wanted to take him to sunset because he's never been to a range before ... I have 2 ranges that are closer to my home but I've been to sunset before and had great experiences prior and I wanted to make it a good experience for my nephew ... when we got there it was busy .. but Frank took care of us and was very helpful and attentive to us ... we were assigned 2 RSO's ... Let's start with Jon .A ... Jon A was very informative,helpful and patient with us and he made our time there pleasant... for him I would go back and will request him if I decide to spend another $800 there .... Now the other RSO John was rude ,obnoxious and definitely had a napoleon complex ... most of us are not avid gunslingers so he made us feel like we were so beneath him ... he threatened to ban us ,yelled and obviously did not want to be with us ...he said that he didn't have time to teach us anything and that there was another group of 14 inside that he was waiting on ... we had two bays ... one for pistols and one for my shotgun and rifle ... he was with us on the bay where we shot the shotgun and rifle ... I told him that I just bought a gun for my wife and if he can take time and show her how to use it ... he said no that you gotta pay for a class for that ... he said it very rudely and we were immediately turned off ... my shotgun was jamming due to the ammo I bought at sunset and he was pissed off about that ... he also kept complaining to the supervisor there ... I've been in the hospitality field for over 30 years and this by far was their worse experience I've had at any establishment...it took everything in my power to not react ... finally I was so disgusted that I decided to pack up my rifle and shotgun and just shoot my pistols with Jon.a ... again Jon A was amazing ... and he earned my tip ! And I tip well ... finally when the LIL John brung in his group of 14 that he was waiting for ... he took the time to handle them correctly and had a different energy with them ... maybe because that group was all white ... never use the race card but that basically what it was with him .... Unprofessional and unfortunate.... I will take my $800 somewhere else ... the young lady at the cashier asked us about our experience and I told her and she asked if we wanted to relay the message to the higher ups but again I didn't want to make a scene so I left ... however she was very apologetic and helpful ... First time going to a shooting range and absolutely loved it, drive was about 2 hours from my area to Pennsylvania but it was well worth it, had a great instructor, he made sure we held the guns correctly, had the right stance, and confirmed that we could see clearly and were aware of everything we needed to be before we shot, will definitely go back and ask for the same instructor, Kenny, highly recommend him, he made it such a great and fun experience. I booked a VIP Experience package with Sunset Hill as a gift for my husband's 40th birthday. We had been before, just the two of us, and had such a great time I knew I wanted to make it part of his birthday celebrations! From start to finish it was an absolute top-notch experience. David, the coordinator for the VIP package was incredibly helpful, responsive, and understanding when we wound up having to reschedule at the last minute. They had a great selection of packages to choose from and lots of cool options in each weapon class for my our group to try out. The two instructors we worked with for our group were truly fantastic, super knowledgeable, really in-tuned with each of our group's interests and preferences and advised accordingly. What an awesome experience! I went on a Sunday with 2 others and we had a blast literally. They have a parking lot which was a plus, they gave us headgear and goggles & thorough instructions. The range is outdoors which makes it fun. They call you by groups, one instructor to each group. My instructor was very knowledgeable and friendly. I tried the AK47 and a berreta for the first time. I shot at targets with the AK & a paper body target with the berreta. The price all depends on which firearm you use. I fired about 14 shots all together for $36, including gear plus tipped my instructor. I will definitely be back again especially in the spring read more

What a fantastic time! My friends surprised me with a birthday roadtrip to the shooting range. I was a little nervous because I had never even seen a gun in real life. Get there early, parking and lines can really add up. We went on a Saturday and we were pretty much one of the last groups. It was crazy packed, but still enjoyable. Make sure you bring valid id, and card/cash (No DISCOVER!) They provide ear/eye protection. Once you're out on the range, you can't remove them. And trust me you won't want to either. Geeze they are LOUD. Our instructor were all kind and patient. Since it was packed, they were staying stationary with their post rather then following you along. They improved my shot immensely! And my friend who was scared out of her mind-- they sat her down, did breathing excerises and really worked with her. She ended up being the best shot with handguns! We all fell in love and plan on coming back once a year. (More if we can!) It was the best birthday ever. read more

After my friend visited this place, of course I had to try it ! I was in the area and decided to do this place asap and my imaginary friends El Cuco y La Cuca came along. I have many imaginary friends, they come and go as they wish... (just kidding, creative writing. lol) When I parked I was in fear for my life, I heard all the loud shooting and I was like wtf?!!! right behind a white fence. I felt like getting on the ground and crawl my way to the office. Once inside the office, the service was friendly and fast, I was given a menu with the choices of guns and pay as you go, depending on how much I wanted to shoot. Outside in the open field, I saw how the display and shooting booths are and that white fence location. It is safe, I had a nice tall instructor all to myself, I loved the one on one attention. Since it has been a while that I didn't visit a range, it was nice to go over the gun handling techniques. I shot one of the biggest the Barrett and to my amazement, this time I was able to handle and grab it, the force of the gun was nice enough for me to work it. Then I did the Glock 9mm which was a pleasure and smooth one to shoot. As I was shooting the sound of the gun shots were soothing to my brain, I loved it, I went from feeling fear to feeling overly happy and excited at the sounds of the shootings. No wonder why some people use the head shot as a way out, is nice, smooth, sweet and quick. If you are visiting during the cold weather make sure to put gloves, hat and cover up nice. All in all, it was a great experience which I will try to do over. read more

Overall a good experience but expensive!!! Brandon the range officer was very nice and informative. There was an enormous amount of safety involved and appropriately so. $25 for a reservation, goggles, earplugs, each gun and number of rounds has a price, etc. It gets expensive fast. Bring your own goggles and ear plugs to save. We were told a price of $49 for one gun but charged $89 at the checkout. Double check all prices before you shoot. It is what it is just be aware it ain't cheap. They do have a good selection of guns and options and it is well run. We would do it again. read more

It sucks to have to drive an hour away just to go to an outdoor shooting range but this was DEFINITELY worth the drive. I've always gone to Gun For Hire in NJ and the limitations to shoot, the price you pay, and the time you're limited, really make this hour drive the best decision of my life. We got here as soon as it opened and there were already people here shooting. Since we bought our own guns, we were pretty much on our way once we signed a waiver. We rented a port and our instructor Kevin, who was super chill and awesome, went through the safety regulations for our range day. If you've been to a gun range before, the safety regulations are all the time and precautionary. The ports are all outdoors so expect it to be cold if you're going on a cold day. Yes you can bring coffee and yes you're allowed to bring food. Clean up after yourselves and you won't have a problem. The range has boards hanging about 30 yards away or you can bring your own targets and shoot from the pulley system that goes out about 20 feet. Other than just target practice, the range also offers clay shooting on the other side of the range where you can purchase your own clays or bring your own as well. With shotguns, there is also another safety briefing to go through before being on your own. I would personally go back to this place weekly if I had the time. Unfortunately packing up guns to cross the state boarder requires a lot of work and clean up, but if you're familiar with your firearms and have no problems taking the hour drive (from the Bergen county area), then I HIGHLY recommend coming here. The staff is friendly and instructors are helpful and willing to teach you things you're unfamiliar with. Again, I was very happy with this range and the staff and would absolutely come back! read more
