Worst "shooting range" Ive ever been too. Complete waste of money and overpriced!! Not to mention the instructors or glued to your ass they dont even let you load any of the guns, the guns are chained down to the floor, or on to the table. Then I paid $100 to for probably less then 20 bullets for Tommy gun that kept jamming. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GOING THERE! You have been warned!! This past Saturday was another awesome experience at Sunset Hills Shooting Range! (My 4th) I brought two of my friends, Alice and Victoria along with me for the 2 hour drive from NY to PA. We got there early, around 11a.m. to avoid the crowds that tend to build up later in the afternoon, especially on weekends. Once we got in, we signed the waivers, paid $3 for each of our rental goggles and ear protection, and off we go! Our instructor, Dave, turned out, was originally a fellow New Yorker! His sense of humor, his obvious passion for his craft and clear instructions made for an amazing shooting experience! My friends were still rather new to shooting, so I recommended that they start off with the smaller caliber pistols, specifically .22 caliber. My friend Victoria started off with the Ruger MK III, just to get a feel of the shooting experience. It was her first time at a shooting range. Dave went over the basic instructions on how to hold a gun, always keep it pointed down range, and how to have your upper body and legs positioned to have maximum stability. Alice started with the Glock 17 - 9mm pistol. And I started with the Beretta 92FS - 9mm pistol. Over the next hour, we went through 2 tries with the Mossberg 500 pump-action shotgun, Victoria had her go with the KRISS Vector submachine gun, Alice shot the UZI, and I shot the .40 caliber Glock 22 pistol, the 9mm Springfield XDM pistol and the IWI Tavor .223 assault rifle (if anyone plays Call of Duty, you'll know what that is)! The temperature outside was 37 degrees, so it was pretty damn cold. I couldn't feel my feet anymore after the first 10 minutes..Loll But that did little to falter our experience there. Booked Sunset Hill Shooting Range for my Bachelor Party this past weekend and our group had a blast with our Instructors Loki & Antonio. While staying at Pocono Palace, my girlfriend & I drove to Sunset Hill Shooting Range (about 25 mins) It's first come 1st serve, so it took about 45 minutes until we were paired with a shooting instructor due to multiple groups ahead of us. This gave us the time to look at the shooting sheet and pick which guns we wanted to shoot. We were paired with Tyler who was our instructor, he was AWESOME. He made everything fun and easy, and most of all safe. We each shot a handgun, she shot an AR 15 I shot the Scar, we both shot the Barret sniper rifle, and both shot a shotgun. It was the highlight of our stay in the Poconos. This was my gfs 1st time shooting a gun, and it's been a few years since I have. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to shot, and with whatever experience you have. The instructor made us feel comfortable with handling each gun. read more

One weekend my bf and I decided to try this place and we loved it so much we went back twice in one weekend! Pam our instructor was great. She was extremely knowledgeable in all of the guns and all of the questions I had.. She was also hilarious! We were able to shoot just about every gun once or twice and the price wasn't bad! IF YOUR A BEGINNER OR NOT!!! GO HERE!!!! The instructors are amazing. It was one of my first timeS at a range and honestly it was amazing. The instructors are fun, organized and most of all, they made me feel SAFE. Each group has an instructor, mine was a guy named Jacob. This guy was awesome to say the LEAST. Being a newbie, some of these guns were intimidating and between his extensive knowledge and light humor he made sure we felt comfortable and enjoyed the experience. Knowing we were new, he started us off at a nice and easy .22 Caliber roster and it helped us understand the handling and aiming aspect of it all. Next we moved up to a 9mm Beretta which was really enjoyable, a lot of bark and a decent amount of recoil to really get you used to the punch. Lastly we finished off with a few rounds of the SCAR Heavy and WOW!!!!!! The power of that weapon was a rush like no other. Over all amazing time and I will definitely return. read more

This is a great place. It's my second time there. I'm from NYC and it takes me at least 2 hrs to get there and I don't mind. I love it. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I have little experience and the staff makes me feel there is no dumb question I can ask. They are so patient and give you tips on improving your technique. There are so many guns and rifles. I think you can find a few from each category and in every caliber. We fired a grenade launcher and a fully automatic machine gun! That was cool. How many people can say they did that? They also have skeet shooting. It can get crowded in nice weather so, I like that it's outdoors and you're breathing in fresh air. You can book the time you want so there isn't much waiting to go in. read more

This weekend was my fourth time here, and the best one yet. Our instructor, Luke D., was the absolutely amazing! Since I'm right handed, I've always been told to use my right eye when aiming, but my aim was terrible and it never felt comfortable. Luke helped me figure out that I'm actually left-eye dominant. All of my hits were on target after that. It was so much fun trying out different guns and we took some great videos. Definitely worth the drive from NYC! Also, the booking fee was applied to the balance at the end so that was definitely a nice surprise. read more

Honestly if I could give it 10 stars I would. My family and I have been coming to Sunset Hill Range about once a year for the past 12 years and I have NEVER been disappointed. The moment we drive up the road and can start to hear the shots is when the biggest smile comes onto my face. It is a little bit of a drive from the area in NY (around 2 hours), but is 100% worth it and there is plenty to do in the Pocono Mountains to make a weekend out of it. I would recommend coming in the early morning (for sure before 12 pm) on popular weekends since it can get pretty packed. Since I have been coming they have expanded both the office and waiting area, as well as the number of stalls, which shows just how popular it has become. I have shot so many different guns here I begin to lose track. From the desert eagle to the AK-47 to historic WWII rifles, it never gets old. There is always some new gun to try which is louder and more powerful than the last. I have also always had amazing instructors who take the time to teach you the proper technique, the history of the gun, and the safety protocol to follow. We had Tex the last time and he was definitely one of my favorites and I will for sure ask for him the next time I am there! You HAVE to try clay pigeon shooting with the shotguns at the end to really make your trip worth it! Overall you basically pay for the number of rounds in the gun, which with plenty of choices can get expensive so be prepared to spend a good amount if you want to get the full experience! They supply goggles and ear protection for a small fee as well. That being said, to come once a year is totally worth it and I recommend it to anyone I know going to the Pocono Area. read more

Had the V.I.P. Experience for a bachelor party I hosted. That's the option you want to take if you have a party of 5 or more. The instructors Autumn, Shane and Antonio were extremely safe and educated in more than just the guns. All other staff kept the experience rolling along smoothly so as to get us equipped and shooting as fast as possible and knew how to have fun while dealing with the viscosity of the situation. Also, the passion the instructors put into watching us shoot is comparable to none, eg.when Autumn grunted "get it" at us, made the blood flow faster and stronger before letting that shot out (no pun intended). Huge selection of guns, rifles, and shotguns. You know you're getting close when you hear gunshots. 1. When you go inside, you need a photo ID with proof of age. 2. Read a disclaimer. You'll get a tally card. 3. You can use their guns or bring your own. 4. You get a choice between to the headset or the ear plugs. I find the ear plugs more sanitary. 5. Once you go outside on the other side, find an instructor. 6. Pistols get target sheets. 7. When you go shoot, the instructor marks your card. Give it away so they don't mark it twice. =( 8. Bathrooms consist of 2 porta-potties that can be very disgusting. You have been warned. 9. It gets cold in the fall and winter. Dress appropriately. 10. They close at 5pm. read more

My 300th Review!! My fiance and I came here with fellow Yelpers Jennifer F and John C back in November and we had a blast! (Pun intended... and yes I'm very late in writing this review!) Being a first timer I was pretty intimidated, especially when I heard all the gun shots as we pulled into the parking lot. Luckily we were advised by a friend to get there early, as the line can get crazy to get in and/or wait for an instructor. There were a few groups of people when we got there at 11:30am and by the time we left two hours later there was a crowd waiting to get in. The instructors here are great! We felt incredibly safe and very well informed the entire time. The woman in the office is a little on edge, shouting at people to put on their ear and eye protection before you dare step foot outside to the range - but I do not blame her. They have to keep everyone safe, and it can get rowdy in there - so don't take it personally! We had Dan as our instructor and he was awesome. So informative, patient, professional and knowledgeable. He really knows his stuff! We learned so much about stance, posture, grip, terminology, aiming, you name it. I liked how there was a progression to our session with him. He started us out on the smaller handguns and worked our way up eventually to the 'go home gun' - a powerful shot gun. Key word - powerful. I was nervous for my first time, but I have been back since, and will go back many more times. They have so many guns to try, and if you have your own you can enroll for a membership and there are booths designated for members to shoot their own guns. Pretty nifty establishment they have going on here. They have skeet shooting too, which I haven't tried yet, but it is on my to do list next time I'm back in the area. In full disclosure, I am not a gun advocate. I live in a city where it's illegal to obtain, possess or carry a firearm. I do not like being near gun nuts (see Sandyhook shooting, 2012). Sunset Hill Shooting Range runs a very well oiled machine. It is my belief that the instructors at Sunset Hill Shooting Range is the key to the facility's success. The instructors are so knowledgeable and take such great care in what they do to educate their visitors. Our instructor was extremely patient and provided tips. He was invaluable to the experience. Each visitor is required to wear protective glasses and earpieces; both of which are rent-able for a total of $3. Visitors are given a card with a list of guns and their costs to shoot. The instructor marks the card after each round. It's the dim sum of shooting. The loud, non-stop gun shot sounds can get annoying. Just be warned it's loud and very frequent. This is my very first experience handling firearms, but I hope that every shooting range operates as professionally as Sunset Hill. read more

Great staff, very knowledgeable with the firearms we used. This was my second visit and so I brought more people. They all had a great time, some first timers left feeling really confident and less fearful of hand guns. Machine gun was crazy and the cannon of a sniper rifle pushed my shoulder back into place. A great place to try out various guns. Prices ranges depending on the gun which are around $7~$20 per a round, rounds also ranges depending on the gun which are around 3bullet~10bullet. It seems cheap but it can add up really quick, so becareful how many rounds you plan to shoot. Somethings i notice while i was there: 1. you cant shoot without an instructor. so if your in a large group, you might want to split your group so you wont have to wait as long. 2. Tip. it is common courtesy to tip the instructor. From what i saw people were tipping around ~$5 per a person. 3. Instructors are really friendly, if you need an extra ear plug just simply ask. As part of our yearly family vacation for the past 4 years, we always make Sunset Hill part of our family fun. Every year we have a blast.. Big part of the reason we return here is how nice the staff is, they are very safety conscious, the guys are serious about safety but still have fun with you. Its a highlight of our vacation. All until this past October 2020, the handler we had this year had no personality, no fun and actually criticized my sons, who are in their 20s, put them down, threatened to turn my one son in because when he shot a gun, the bullet hit the grass, "destruction of property". I spent over $500, was beyond disappointed. The manager was not available so I just left. I'm still very disappointed. Will we return? I'll have to talk my 3 sons into it and remind them it was 1 ass, all the rest of the employees previous years were awesome. My sons are burnt because of how much of a jerk he was, and so am I. We have now been back 4 or 5 times and have brought friends almost every time. To those who say the range is for 100% beginners-- although it is great for beginners, it is also great for intermediate shooters or even those who are pros but just want to try something different. At this point, I wouldn't call myself a beginner anymore, but I love coming back to Sunset Hill just to practice or try something new. On our most recent visit, we tried out the sniper rifles. How many times in your life can you say that? Probably none, unless you come here or have a friend who is really into guns. Timing is everything with this range-- because it is so close to the city and so amazing, expect looooong lines on weekends, especially in the summer or over holidays. We made the mistake of bringing two friends on a Saturday in the summer and had to wait almost an hour before we even touched a gun, and then about 20 minutes before we touched another. We ended up giving up about 3 guns later. The best time to come is either on a weekday or in the dead of winter (remember it's outdoors so bring gloves/hats/scarves). If you must come on a high-traffic day, get here as early as possible. My husband came by this past Sunday-- an unseasonably warm January day. When we arrived at about 10:30am, we got an instructor right away. When we left at around 1, there was about a 20-30 minute wait. As someone written previously it's OK for tourists who come to shoot from New York and Jersey or those who have no weapons of their own to do so or since it is really conveniently located. There are better places one can shoot if you really want to. The booths are located real close together so if someone bringing a shotgun they would be shooting right next to the pistol range even though the pistol booths are separated by the wooden fence but it's a little too much togetherness for my liking. Also, You do need to wear eye protection. Not just to make sure that you don't hurt yourself but also since the bays are fully enclosed at the top and area fairly narrow the casings from the handgun always seem to wind up hitting you read more
