Well I guess 5:30 closing time means 4:45?? I was looking for some D-Ring pads to purchase & install on my inflatable. Found Sunset here on Yelp & drove over. Walked in front, showroom was dark & messy, heard guys working in shop in back, opened door slowly announcing myself with a "hello?" ... one gentleman smiled who was working on a boat and I said hi & started to tell him what I was looking for. Another person from the back yelled "WE'RE CLOSED!!" ... I explained to the first gentleman that I was just looking buy some d-rings to install & he seemed to want to help, but the other guy yelled "I SAID WE'RE CLOSED!" The nicer guy said I'm sorry, you'll have to come back another day. Umm , no ... I don't think I'll be coming back to a place with customer service like that. I'll take my business elsewhere. I had a great experience with Sunset they fixed up my 2016 Evanrude ETEC that needed 300 hr service and needed prop shaft seal completely replaced ( sucked in a bunch of fishing line dont do this ) Mitched keep me up to date on progress of the repair only needed boat for a week and repaired for a great price. After having my dinghy for over a year to fix a engine problem under warranty, Sunset Inflatables delivered my dinghy( which I bought from them new) yesterday. I got it in the water and the problem is worse. We arranged pick up the dinghy the next day but they left after waiting for 15mins as I was late. I was late because the engine that they "fixed"kept stalling and wouldn't do more than 2 knots. So after a year of chasing and terrible customer service I have decided to sue. I bought a new (in crate) etec 90hp from Mitch ($9500) and it had factory fuel in it that had gone bad from sitting for an extended period of time. The motor stalled on me in the first hour of use at sea. I brought it back to sunset and they connected this motor to the diagnostic equipment..... Mitch claimed it was water in the fuel that caused a bad 3rd injector. I found this suspicious since my fuel system was newer, and I have a fuel/water separator. After extensive testing sunset wanted in excess of $1000 to replace the injector (never mentioned the fuel pump) however I declined. And still paid for 1hr of labor. I brought the motor to another authorized evinrude dealer in Costa Mesa. They ran the same diagnostic test....guess what? Fully covered by evinrude!! Parts and labor! Hmmmmmmm. They found that the motor had a bad 3rd injector and fuel pump. Fully covered! The last thing I find odd; the day this occurred Mitch added two(2) 5 star reviews to his yelp profile. read more

I own a 15' Boston Whaler with a 50 HP Yamaha outboard that was getting pretty old. I run this boat and engine hard, I've always wanted a 60 HP Yamaha and my 50 finally died. I put the word out to dealers and I watched for a used engine. Mitch called me back with a newer(used) 60HP Yamaha engine that he had on a boat in his yard for a private party. We made a deal-took my Whaler up to him and he made the switch. I ran the engine hard and love it. Smooth & quiet & fast. He did a great job on the install and he checked everything out. We are currently servicing our inflatable with another mechanic who has worked on many boats in the Dana Point Harbor and comes with an excellent reputation. Mitch had an enormous selection of boats to choose from, which was great because I wasn't sure what I wanted. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the products & availability of his boats. He showed us the different styles and options available. After much consideration, we choose a 2021, 12'. INMAR center console with a 30hp Honda engine. We added stereo, inside lights, bottom lights, cigarette lighter for a charger if phones and a Bimini to shade us from the sun. bought a brand new Walker Bay and right away the seat broke, and a month later, the valve was leaking water into the boat. Called to have the store we bought at come fix this problem, they wouldn't unless we took this dinghy up to their store. We don't have a trailer , so how were supposed to take it up there. They wanted us to pay $160 (the boat is under warranty) to have someone pick it up and take it to the store when they could have fixed it on the spot without all of that transportation back and forth. We would never recommend to buy anything there. read more
