There are beautiful hotels, and then there are beautiful people. This has both. I arrived at Sunset Marquis after unexpectedly being displaced from my home following the West Hollywood / Sunset water main break. My car was totaled, my apartment became uninhabitable, and my little emotional support animal, Rumi, and I suddenly found ourselves living in a hotel. I came here hoping for a safe place to stay. What I've found is so much more. Jesse and the entire front desk team set the tone from day one. Every interaction has been met with warmth, patience, and genuine kindness. They never treated me like a room number. They treated me like a person whose world had just been turned upside down. Olga is an angel. She didn't just clean my room. She hung up my clothes, vacuumed, made everything feel peaceful again, and gave me one of the warmest hugs I've had in a very long time. It may have been a simple act to her, but it meant everything to me. She reminded me what compassion looks like. Logan has been so kind in every way and he completely stole Rumi's heart. Every time he sees her, he surprises her with treats and makes her feel like the most important little guest at the hotel. Watching someone love my dog so effortlessly has brought so much joy during an incredibly difficult time. Robert at concierge has been lovely. I deeply appreciate the care that goes into every interaction. Jessica at the bar has always been warm, welcoming, and kind. Sometimes remembering someone's name, asking how they're doing, or simply smiling can change the entire course of their day. The team at Cavatina has been just as wonderful. Every single person I've interacted with has made me feel genuinely welcome. Their kindness isn't an exception. It's the culture. Thank you John for the incredible suggestions of food and wine. Over the past two weeks, I've been reminded that true hospitality has very little to do with beautiful buildings and everything to do with beautiful people. When your whole world collapses, you don't remember the thread count, the lobby, or the décor. You remember the people who looked you in the eye. The people who asked how you were doing and made you feel safe. Every single one of you has given me that. Thank you for reminding me that humanity is alive and well. I will never forget the way you've made me feel and would recommend this to anyone looking for an incredible experience in the heart of LA, and West Hollywood. read more

We stayed at the Sunset Marquis in Los Angeles for four nights and absolutely loved it. It was one of the quietest and most peaceful hotel stays we've ever had, which was such a pleasant surprise for LA. The property is tucked away but still within walking distance of a few shops, which made it feel private yet convenient. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and the pool area is large and relaxing--perfect for unwinding after a day out. We also really enjoyed the small bar and the musician photo gallery, which gave the hotel such a cool, creative vibe. The brunch menu was a little fancy for me, but the staff went out of their way to accommodate and make something simple. I'm a pancake-and-bacon kind of gal, so I was very thankful they made it happen! We didn't get a chance to visit the spa this trip, but it's definitely on the list for next time. The villas looked adorable as well, and I would love to stay in one on a future visit. We were nervous about finding a place we loved in LA since we usually stay in the Irvine/Newport Beach area, but this hotel is now our favorite spot in Los Angeles. Highly recommend! read more

I am always researching hotels for out of town guests and so I am pleased to add the Sunset Marquis to my short list of recommendations. This is the perfect place for anyone visiting Hollywood and its environs, especially if they want seclusion, hipster vibes, and luxury all in one. While I haven't stayed in a room or villa here, I have spent time on the sprawling property and explored its nooks and crannies. The public areas are clean and retro (think '60s, mostly, to my mind) and note the music industry nods at every turn. I will let my photos do more of the talking. The parking is either valet, right in front, or on the street. The vegetation is almost tropical and there is shade from beautiful mature trees on all sides. You will be close to the action while enjoying a sanctuary from the glitsy-glam chaos that is legion in this part of Los Angeles. I had such a great stay here and the amazing staff was such a significant part of that experience! When I arrived it was only around noon, so I planned on just dropping my bags because I didn't anticipate that my room would be ready early. But to my surprise, not only was my room available to check-in early, but I also received an upgrade to a suite. Naturally, this kicked off my stay on a gratitude high! I had no idea how large the property was (I believe 38 acres) tucked away in the heart of West Hollywood. From the outside, you would really have no idea that there was a beautiful koi pond, gardens, a pool, restaurant, bar, villas and who knows what else I may not have seen. My suite was huge and nice, but nothing too fancy. There was a minibar and an open "kitchen area" extended as part of the living room as well as a little balcony outside of the bedroom (unfortunately no view.) The bathroom was huge however and my bed was one of the most comfortable I had slept on as among my third hotel stay during a stretch of travel. There were TVs in the living room and bedroom and overall, just so much space to spread out. There were also plenty of outlets by the bed (which I so appreciate) and overall my stay was very peaceful. Whenever I had to have something delivered, the concierge was great about managing that and the doormen were always so nice. In general, the whole front desk staff were just absolutely kind, amazing and really made my stay feel extra special! Will definitely book here again in the future after a really wonderful visit. read more

This hotel is such a hidden gem. Literally, it's tucked away just behind the Sunset Strip near La Cienega, but I had never noticed it before our stay. It's independently-owned as well, so my wife and I appreciated not having to stay at another chain brand for our one-night staycation. We found the Sunset Marquis because it's part of our Chase visa credit card's new-ish Edit program with points boost, so we enjoyed extra perks like 2 free drinks, a complimentary room upgrade, and hotel credits. Great perks! Our room was so tasteful and well-appointed, notably with literally the fanciest toilet I have ever used. We had a terrific experience at the spa and restaurant as well. Another tip: if you ask at the front desk, you'll receive a day-pass for the Equinox gym down the street, which was an excellent work-out experience. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Sunset Marquis for our anniversary in August. What a local gem! The grounds are beautiful and our room (128) was absolutely perfect. The restaurant was very good as well. The rock art and photography throughout the property and the rock photo studio are the perfect touch. We walked to The Rainbow Bar & Grill and also to a show at The Whisky a Go Go. This review is for the valet + spa + garden space I was here for a spring equinox soundbath experience put on by @walkgoodla When I arrived the front desk staff welcomed me and directed me towards the spa. Then I realized I had forgotten my yoga mat after already leaving my car with the valet... but they quickly and kindly helped me retrieve it. When I walked the path to the garden space there were so many flowers blooming it smelled like Freesia and jasmine and gardenia. There was a pond filled with pretty fish along the path. I was offered chamomile fennel tea and settled in for the breathwork + spring equinox sound bath. I received the 24k gold ear-seed treatment from CJ in the spa. She explained the different ear pressure points and gently applied them to my inner ear. It's impossible to articulate how lovely this entire experience was felt afterwards because it's so subtle but noticeable. I arrived stressed and foggy and left completely blissed out and clear. I didn't consume any altering substances or alcohol at this event but I felt like I did! The spa offers sound healing as a part of their massages so I will be back for more of this for sure! If you're in town visiting + staying in this hotel missing the spa would be a huge mistake. read more

In somewhat distant past, pre-pre-covid anyway, i spent a lot of time in west hollywood. my choice of lodging depended on what i figured to do after work, usually music sometimes foodie sometimes just cruise around or woodshed it in the room. never knew what might turn up in the process especially staying over weekends. at one and for a time the marmot was interesting much as was the previous incarnation of the chelsea in manhattan. but the "chateau" was more image based on famous clientele you'd never see, probably for good reason. my all time favorite was the old chelsea hotel in manhattan. if you were lucky enough you stayed for several months, usually by way of sublet for a year or so as i did in the late 70s. during such time you'd likely develop like-minded "friends" although depending on your own proclivities some may well have been a bit more than dazed and confused, drug-addled at times, a la the likes of sid vicious. prior to that i had lived for a period of time on the upper west side at the old ansonia hotel, prior to its conversion to condominium format. it had fallen into serious disrepair by the mid-70s which made it frankly more than a little creepy which was attractive in my view given that my main reason for moving in was a girlfriend's sworn testimony that the place was haunted. of course all these wanderings happened in those lost years, decades really. bringing us to today when, on a recent weekend i decided to check out the Sunset Marquis, one of the more upscale venues here, complete with historic decades old reputation as part of the music scene, less known and glitzy in presentation than others, top shelf and no mistake at end of a quiet street in a somewhat secluded neighborhood. whereas the hyatt riot back in the day had been young and noisy, the sunset was smaller, less visible which attracted more established music gentry. in my case, a friend had stayed here recently and highly recommended i try it on this particular trip. may i suggest you do the same if you have a chance. There are several options for rooms, differing a bit in price though not in my view significantly enough so to go for a studio in the main building. Instead choose one of the villas which believe me are really cool. If you check the website, these rooms are pretty much as they are pictured: well appointed, not given to ostentation, extremely private and quiet. The soaking tub is made for two, there's 24 hour room service, several bars and perhaps the most personable staff I can recall at any upscale hotel. No puffery or distancing in the people I met. Logan for example I remember for his recommendations, most important in LA given how quickly things change if you're out of touch with the area for a few years. In short, Sunset Marquis provided a centerpiece for the best weekend I've had in a while. It's a little pricey but if you get what you want that doesn't really matter, not to me anyway. My sense of such places is that this is what money is for. You have to have something wrong with you to not like the Sunset Marquis. read more

I must be moving up in the world. The last time I stayed in a hotel in WeHo, it was at the Best Western Sunset Plaza for less than $100 per night (review: https://bit.ly/3phXif9). It's still there. However, Jamie W. and I decided to be like George and Weezy and stay in a deluxe hotel not in the sky but on Alta Loma Road right off Sunset. The Sunset Marquis is definitely upscale, but we found it surprisingly chill. It was apparently a cheap motel for broke musicians back when it opened in 1963. Its musical legacy remains today as the public walls are decorated with framed photographs of famous musicians (photo: https://bit.ly/43XKcT7). There's a huge mural of Willie Nelson overlooking the main swimming pool (photo: https://bit.ly/3r7t0fk). We reserved a Standard King Guest Room for $392 per night for two nights. They put us on the second floor of the main building, and our room was spacious and surprisingly quiet considering it was Pride weekend in WeHo (photo: https://bit.ly/3pmTGIC). They also offer far pricier suites and villas surrounded by lush SoCal-style foliage, and we were able to take advantage of the hidden second pool which had its own bar and young bartender. Don't worry. We were allowed. The lobby art gallery was filled with cool, expensive celebrity photos, and we had a fine dinner on our first evening at their al fresco restaurant, Cavatina, under a portrait of Aretha Franklin (photo: https://bit.ly/42VsG0J). The hotel's prime location meant the trendy and not-so-trendy restaurants, bars, and stores on both Sunset and Santa Monica Boulevards were mere steps away. The hospitality here is phenomenal. On my first day I had a little bit of a catastrophe with my vintage boot heel and the concierge was able to get me guerilla glue to remedy the situation. I tried the on site restaurant for breakfast and had the birria benedict which is served with sopes instead of an English muffin and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My server was really great and the view made me feel like I was sitting in a restaurant in Honolulu. I had some issues with an unruly guest and the hotel and the staff helped me switch rooms which I greatly appreciate. Throughout my stay I needed a steamer and padded hangers and they were very accommodating. I like that you can stream hbo although no one is spending very much time in their room to begin with. I noticed there is construction underway so I'm looking forward to seeing the upgrades. The water pressure and temperature in the shower is nice and sometimes that can be an issue in certain hotels. I'm glad I booked the sunset marquis for its walkability. I was able to go to Trader Joe's and grab some snacks to stock my fridge with. It's also pretty centrally located if you want to explore the city. read more

This is my home anytime I stay in la. I've been coming here for over a decade. It's close to little boys town-weHo-santa Monica so walking distance to dispensaries, famous eateries and chill vibes. The hotel hosts a recording studio, two pools, a decadent restaurant that serves salted warm gooey chocolate chip cookies to your room! Everyone is more than helpful. Jorge the valet always takes care of me and all my guests cars. And every single hostess at cavatina has helped take pics with perfect lighting. The service and hospitality were so good that we needed to take a moment to ensure we weren't dreaming! It's sad to realize that good service doesn't occur that much anymore. But, at the Sunset Marquis--it still does. It's definitely chill and a bit pricy but totally worth it. It's at the end of a dead-end street which gives you the feeling of peace in busy, vibrant LA. What a history of famous musicians that have recorded here! There are too many to list. We asked the front desk if we could tour their recording studio and they said, "Sure!". The Nightbird Studio has incredible acoustics--that seems to be the draw for a lot of artists we found out. We stayed three nights in a beautiful suite and there was not one thing that we could think of that we needed. Everyone that we met there was genuinely fantastic. read more

Beautiful hotel and best customer service. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with friendly faces and attentive service. We stay at a lot of hotels and this one has the most attentive service we have ever experienced. Logan is the most pleasant bell hop you will ever meet. He loves his job and he loves this hotel and tells you about the history of the hotel with so much enthusiasm and love. He has worked here for 15 years and immediately, the stay felt more personal and special with him. Also, we forgot our toothpaste and housekeeping was up in 2 minutes to deliver. To our surprise, as we left the hotel, we noticed that they fully charged our Tesla, so we left with 100% charge and no worries about the trip home. Cavatina, their restaurant was amazing and had lots of yummy, healthy food options for breakfast. We invited friends for breakfast and the scenery was so zen and relaxed. This was only a 1 day stay because we came for an event, we will be back next time we are in town. The rooms are clean, spacious and well stocked. Our room was right next to the elevator which was quite noisy, all night we heard people chatting on their way out of the elevator, this made sleeping very broken, definitely make sure to request a room away from the elevator. If it were not for the noisy room, I would give this hotel 5 stars. read more

Highly disappointed with this hotel, valet and restaurant manager I was working downstairs in the studio that is inside the sunset marquee when I was finished with my session with a very A-list celebrity I proceeded to the valet with my Validhated ticket and pass it to a guy I found out his name was William I was the only person standing outside at the time besides one woman and my artist that was next to me when William came back. There was now three other people along with myself and I gave William my car ticket first so he can bring my car around after I already waited almost 15 minutes. William came back with another valet guy and two cars that belong to the other three people that were now standing beside me which once again arrived after me and gave their tickets to valet after me. I waited for my car to be brought around to the front of the hotel and I asked William why would you get the other three people's car before mine? The other three people were Caucasian and I am clearly Latino, but I appear to look very young. I felt racially profiled because when I handed William the ticket initially and I showed him the ticket was Validhated. He looked a bit bothered and I assumed maybe he brought my car last because he felt like I would not tip him, but I asked him and he lied repeatedly and said the other parties gave him the car tickets first which is clearly untrue. He began to become aggressive and rude. At this point I had no choice, but to match his energy, we got into an argument. He went inside I asked for the Management the restaurant manager came out her name I believe is YOMAN. This woman was wearing glasses. I asked her who the manager was. She pointed at another woman, a shorter woman with short hair that had a heavy European accent. I was very frustrated at this point so my voice was loud as I began to digress this woman, the restaurant manager, Yoman decided to tell me that she was a manager also and started to throw fuel to the fire and back William when he was clearly in the wrong and she began laughing and taunting me as if she was a child clearly seeing that me the customer was very upset and frustrated. I think her attitude was completely unprofessional and the front desk manager told me she's a restaurant manager. I have no idea why she was over in the front attending to my business overall, Sunset marquee is not a place I would recommend for minorities or Latin, Hispanic people like myself or anyone that does not condone racial profiling to visit or stay or eat and dine in. I am appalled at Sunset Marquise behavior. I am now waiting for higher management to contact me. This altercation happened Sunday approximately 8:30 PM to about 9:50 PM. I had to tell them what I do who I am and who I work for and with for everyone to begin to respect me as an adult or as a professional furthermore, I have stayed at the Sunset Marquis prior and work downstairs at the studio many times every time I come to Sunset Marquis they do not want to honor the Validhated parking tickets. The valet always gives me an issue this time. William has pushed me over the edge. I will continue to write reviews until higher management contact me. I requested. They review the tapes to see Williams's behavior and realize what he did to me was unfair unkind and unprofessional. I promise you if you're considering this hotel, you should highly reconsider because they are profiling people left and right and it's insane because they gave a entire professional recording studio, which many urban celebrities record and downstairs, but they mistreat the community that may appear to be urban or flashing from the walk into the hotel to valet to the restaurant all the way to exiting I am now going to inform many people in my circle that we have to stop supporting these kind of businesses. I highly hope upper management make some big changes in staff and reminds the team of people working in this place what great customer service means, and the importance of treating everyone equally respectfully and what the meaning of professionalism truly is. read more

Friendly Staff & stellar stay! Loved the restaurant and bar located in the hotel as well. Very charming, historical and so cool to see all the musical memorabilia everywhere. Gardens out back where bungalows are were very well kept. It was fascinating to hear and read how iconic artists have stayed there for weeks at a time to record music because some of their bungalows have attached recording studios. Since 1999 this is my favorite hotel! Every time I arrive I feel like it's my home away from home. Quiet and private, but close to many things ... it's the perfect mix. This time I was immediately received by the valet and when I got to the front desk they greeted me by name. Chase and the front desk are amazing and made sure any request was satisfied. I had a fantastic supper at the restaurant on the property - Cavatina. The pear clafoutis dessert is a must have (see photo below). I then bought a shirt from Robert the concierge (he has souvenirs displayed in the case in the lobby). The beds are super comfy and today I'm hitting the spa for a massage. The spa just reopened and has excellent services for a great price. Do yourself a favor and stay here!! read more

Only thing that wasn't the best was the food from room service.. Over all the room and stay was so great as well as relaxing. I hate that we only stayed for the night. The bar was actually closing when we arrived due to our late check in, but it's seem very chill & entertaining just by looking in it you can see the vibe of the candle lit table. Met a friend for breakfast at the restaurant. $21 for avocado toast is a bit steep, but the roast potatoes were the star. Bathrooms were rustic and old but very clean. Hotel is a great little hideaway tucked in the middle of WeHo. It's on a dead end street, so it's super quiet. All throughout the hotel, they celebrate music history. Loved it here. I'd totally stay here if I were a visitor and wanted to stay near all the Hollywood tourist spots. read more

Everything about this place is excellent. Checking in was quick and easy. Our villa was basically an apartment and it was so beautifully furnished. Room service was quick and easy, and we dined in the restaurant a few times and also had the best experience there. The lemon soufflé was so good that we had it twice. Our first stay here was for my birthday last month. We loved it so much that we immediately booked another stay and went back a few weeks later. The employees really make an effort to get to know you, they remember you, and everyone is so nice and helpful. I really felt like housekeeping took notice of things we preferred on our first stay and applied them to this second visit. This may be a coincidence, but it really made a positive impact on us. We usually like to have staycations in our local area, but for the comparable price and level of service we have gotten at the Sunset Marquis, this will be our new staycation destination. We chose the Sunset Marquis for a special celebration for 3 of our close friends for a big birthday. The service was not only exceptional, but warm and knowledgeable about the incredible history of this beautiful hotel. The room was gorgeous and the balcony convenient and a nice place to relax. The back pool was clean and great temperature. I would say I don't think the front pool was heated, not sure why, but still a nice amenity. Close to West Hollywood to visit venues. I had the most amazing time at the recent Wellness event hosted by the Spa Director Sheneka Clark and the Meditation + Sound Bath facilitated by WalkGoodLA's Etienne and Lee-Lonn. The synergy of this group is second to none. Sheneka brought here vast knowledge of healing and creating a beautiful, sacred ambience to hold space for everyone to do their healing and recharge energy! We followed a series of breath work from Etienne, and dived deeper into our meditation with the beautiful voice of Lee-Lonn. If you haven't tried a sound bath, consider this a sign! The hotel guests that attended were very happy to see Sunset Marquis offering this to their guest. Everyone felt welcomed, and included. Fresh & Kombucha had a join event here. I'm a huge huge fan of Fresh ever since I visited their first shop opened in Boston on Newbury street some many years ago ( when I was just a baby...haha). After my first try of their products, I just love them, and have used them ever since. Fresh is my absolute favorite. Thanks to the Century City store in the mall being so close!! From a little boutique to now a major global brand, Fresh is definitely one of the most successful story in the business!! Now back to Sunset Marquee. It's tucked in a very quiet and tranquil location right in the heart of Weho where you'll never find it unless you've been there. I love the ambience and the overall feel of this hotel. This review would be everything but the rooms. Maybe some day, I'll try a staycation here to get a total feel of this place. Anyways, the people and the service of the SM is excellent. I've stayed at other hotels in the neighborhood, but this one is just above & beyond. The grounds are lovely, I really appreciate the secluded vibe in a place so close to the chaos of Sunset. The restaurant and the bar are both wonderful, and the rooms are everything you'd expect (and more!) from a luxury hotel. The staff are incredible and really take customer service to the next level. I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else in Hollywood, and can't wait to visit again! read more

Customer service at the main restaurant's bar at Sunset Marquis needs improvement. In particular, the bar tender needs to be retrained; he acts entitled, is rude, and unwelcoming with guests. He seems like a sad person that hates his job. I visited the bar on May 5 at around 1:00 pm read more

I stayed here recently. Smoking is allowed all around the property. They say it's not but I walked by many people at the front main pool smoking and another guy smoking a cigar near the villas- and of course there is barely a time you walk through the property without smelling pot. Just cause it's legal shouldn't mean you have to smell it ALL the time. I thought LA was supposed to be cigarette intolerant. YUCK! The room smells like old smoke and the couch has burn holes in the fabric. The bathroom has ants and the walls are streaked from too much moisture and I guess nobody wipes them down. The shower had black mold growing and the water leaks all over the floor-- the feet of the vanity are rusted from all the bathroom moisture. There is some kind of CRAZY awful fruity smelling room spray or something they use around the property that smells like a cheap nauseating brothel and CAN NOT be good for anyone breathing it and even worse for the environment I imagine. Anyone with allergies may want to be aware of this. Service can be inconsistent at the restaurant and housekeeping can be odd too. Friendly though! Just inconsistent. Be patient and eventually it will work out. And FYI- the chicken is chickeny tasting. Anyone who knows what that means knows what I am saying. I tried it in 2 different dishes and couldn't eat it. I don't know why some chicken tastes chickeny and other chicken doesn't. IF you stay on a floor that has a floor above you PREPARE to be irritated with the guests above you. You can hear EVERY step they take and every shower they take and every flush of the toilet. IF you want to sleep you can forget it. They will wake you up. Staff is friendly but they do not enforce the smoking rules unless someone complains it seems. Also, as far as security goes-- the villas are facing La Cienega and the gate separating the not-so-cheap villas would be easy to climb over if you were a criminal which made me feel uneasy and unsafe. ANYONE can access the property if they chose to. You have a false sense of security -if you look where you actually are you realize how vulnerable you are. I think there could be a more reliable structure to protect the property. I do not get the sense that the environment is taken seriously at this property. Hasn't ROCK and ROLL gone to juicing and toxic-free living? Maybe the SM is living in the rock and roll past? There are just way too many wasteful appointments and not enough attention given to room hygiene and health. I feel the future has an emphasis on clean air and eliminating environmental waste. I hope the SM updates soon. I'd love to come back, but right now I won't make any plans to revisit, unfortunately. read more

Absolutely perfect stay! Was there this past Memorial day weekend. Reserved junior suite and was upgraded to King suite. Sweet! (Get it? :p) Room was amazing. Huge, clean, super quiet. They had every amenity in the room- lots of towels, extra pillows, water, toiletries, coffee, etc. They also cleaned room every day. This was the closest experience to what we had before covid! Also loved the grounds of this hotel. It's huge, very lush and green. We ate at Cavatina for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wonderful! Location is super awesome. It's quiet residential street but very close to all the action in West Hollywood. Staff were all super nice and helpful. We will definitely stay here again when we're back in LA. read more
