Never going back, the owner yelled at me for KEEPING my appointment time. I made an appointment for a friend and I to get pedicures. Two hours before our appointment the owner started calling and leaving voicemails asking me if I wanted ti come in early. We were busy so I didn't bother answering since I had every intention to keep my appointment. When we got to the salon a male employee got both my friend and I set up and had us pick out our colors. The woman (owner) came down and yelled at me that I needed to answer my phone. I tried telling her I didn't answer because we were busy but she just kept saying "no no no". After two more women came in it was clear the owner had asked them to come sooner and since I kept my appointment she was way overbooked. If our pedicures hadn't already been started We would have walked out. We sat at the dryer longer than We sat in the chairs. read more

We recently moved to the area, so I asked on Next Door for manicure/pedicure recommendations and this was one of the places recommended. Mimi and Peter(?) got me right in this morning. I asked for my toenails to be cut short and pointed out a couple of my nail issues and these were resolved to my satisfaction. I decided to splurge on the Spa Pedicure and glad that I did - the mint oil rubbed into the calves was great and I felt it for hours later. For those interested, both nail technicians (Mimi/Peter) were masked and there was plexiglass between them and the clients. I found the owners to be very kind, friendly, and attentive. My girl Mimi at Sunset Nails is an absolute queen. Was in the area visiting our grandparents like we do every summer & needed our nails done for the vacation Mimi was super busy but managed to fit my sister, cousin, and I in the same day! She is a wonderful nail tech and an amazing person as well. Her husband helped speed up the process by doing my sisters pedicure. Satisfied with all services- mani, pedi, and acrylic fill in. I was in town visiting my father in law and decided to go get a manicure and pedicure. I have previously been to this salon and have never had an appointment. When I walked in today I was told I couldn't be seen because she was only taking appointments (however, not one customer was in the salon). I asked could I come back after her appointments or just wait until she was finished with her appointments and was told "no, not today." I personally feel this is very bad customer service since appointments are not needed. I do not like to give negative reviews but I was very disappointed by this. If Sunset Nails now requires appointments then they should mention this in their advertising. read more

My girlfriend and I made a same day appointment and from the minute we walked in, it was bizarre! A lady and a man started our pedicures and 20 minutes into the visit, the man stormed out of the shop and the lady finished us both. The actual pedicure was our lady going through the motions...no real cutical removal, massage or anything else normally expected with a pedicure. Our lady literally threw our legs around in a very rough manner during the process and raised her voice at us both when we could not understand her. I decided to go to sunset nail to treat myself to a mani pedi while on vacation. I went in at 9:30 on a Monday morning and the whole salon was full. Mimi asked if I could come back later and luckily it was rainy so no beach day meant my day was open. I made an appt for 2:30pm and came back then. I was the only other person in the salon when I came back. Mimi started my manicure at the station and continued to make phone calls while doing my manicure to try and shuffle some appointments around. At this time someone called about their 3:00pm appt to confirm she could still take them. Now mind you she just started my mani/pedi at 2:30 and there was no one else working at the moment. My curiosity was peaked. I started chatting with Mimi and learned it is just her working at the salon. Sometimes she has a woman there to help her (whom was that day in the back eating). She went on to tell me that she prides herself on her local customers and does her best to accommodate them. I thought this was really nice as being a local at home I appreciate that type of recognition for loyalty. Long story short. This is her downfall. Mimi needs more help. period. I watched many people come in the salon who were turned away and/or asked to come back later or tomorrow. On top of that, the woman who confirmed her 3pm appointment came in at 3 on the dot and in the meantime Mimi had taken in a mother and daughter for mani/pedis and her assistant was only just starting the mother. The regular woman was very upset (understandably so) and argued publicly with Mimi that this happens way too often. At this point Mimi started bargaining with her while stopping my pedi. I felt she was just stretched too thin. I could maybe forgive her staffing issues, if you are just a visitor looking for a good mani or pedi while on vacation. But what you should know is her polish options were looking a little old, and my mani has chipped horribly within less than 24 hours. I mean. Come on. After moving to the beach, I went from salon to salon to find someone who could do a good job on SNS (dipping powder) I kept being disappointed and would head back to Charlotte to get my nails done. That has ended today! Mimi did an outstanding job on my nails, was friendly, and runs a lovely salon. It is very small and I called ahead. Being a walk-in would probably cause frustration. I went to Mimi's last spring when I was vacationing from NYS. She had put acrylic nails on me and they just did not work out. I asked to have them removed. Instead of soaking my nails she yanked them off and was quite miserable toward me. I ended up with very sore hands and my nails never came back for about six months. I also had a pedicure and she proceeded with a very loud voice to tell me I should take better care of my feet. Duh!!!!! That is why I was there so I could have my feet conditioned. She has a tendency to be rude and overbook. Will not go back there this winter. read more

I was in North Carolina for a few days and desperately needed a mani/pedi . Looked online and found this clean, charming salon at Sunset beach. The owner was friendly and helpful. She listened carefully to what I wanted. Both nail techs are skilled and caring. Mimi did my gel manicure and did not rush my hands through the UV light to save time. My nails still look gorgeous two weeks later because she did it right! If you're lucky enough to live in or near sunset beach this is your new nail salon. GO!! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't recommend it. I set this up as part of a bridal party outing two days before the wedding, and I definitely wouldn't use it again for "occasion" nails. If you're not too picky about your nails, check it out. Let's start with the good: Mimi is sweet and was easy to work with. She offered us water and wine numerous times. She gave each of us a 10% group discount. She is in a convenient and easy-to-find location. She seems to stay very busy, with multiple people in and out, phones ringing for appointments and what I assume were locals (always a good sign, right?) when we first got there. There are tons of polish choices, both gel and regular polish. I don't think any of us had issues with polish staying put (most of us did gel mani and regular pedi) Highlights of the bad: - Mimi told me on the phone when I made the appt, that she only had 4 chairs and 4 people to do nails, therefore my group of 8 would be split in half. No big deal, we came prepared with fixin's for mimosas. However, after one pedicure, person #4 disappeared. And after one mani/pedi, person #3 disappeared. Leaving only Mimi and another woman to do the other 6 mani/pedi's. It was very rushed (yet still took FOR-EV-ER) and disorganized - Mimi was bouncing between answering the phone, painting a design on one person's toes and doing a manicure all at the same time. - The actual mani/pedi left a lot to be desired. There was minimal filing and no cutting of nails or cuticles. There was no lotion/cuticle oil rub. The polish I chose for my pedi was thick and goopy. But, instead of trying to thin it or ask me to pick another polish, he just kept layering it on hoping it would get better, until I said something. Mimi had a very difficult time executing what the bride was asking for (both she and I have had the same thing done previously without any difficulty, so not asking for something ridiculous). - Mimi had convinced the mother-of-the-groom (a demure, mani/pedi virgin) to get "sparkles" on top of her pedicure. The "sparkles" turned out to just be a straight up silver polish which entirely covered her pretty coral polish. When she was done with one foot and the M-o-G politely said she didn't really like it, there was visible irritation and sigh-ing and palpable tension in the air. I get it, it's annoying to fix it, but still. Mimi had a bunch of "Best of" awards certificates on her wall. Maybe we caught her on an off day or she was overwhelmed by having 8 of us... I'm not sure. But, we were all flabbergasted that this could possibly be the best in the area. read more

This salon was chosen the Best of Brunswick County in 2015 which should tell visitors it's a great salon. Mimi (owner) has a full client base of locals that support her year round. During vacation season, she attempts to fit walk-ins/call-ins around her already full schedule and she does this in a professional manner. I've been going to Mimi now for 3 years and have NEVER experienced anything like Dana G. described!! Manis/pedis are a luxury for most of us and something we do for ourselves! I don't like giving negative reviews but I was so appalled by my experience today that I must write a review. I arrived at 3pm for my appt to learn that 3 people were booked with Mimi for that time slot and Mimi does her own bookings! At 3:40 I asked her when she'd be able to start my manicure and she said around 4pm, this is unacceptable waiting an hour for a nail appt. She ended up pulling another girl who was in the middle of giving a customer a pedicure to do my Nails which is not okay. The girl getting the pedicure appeared to have waited forever too and was not happy. The manicure I got was sub par, no lotion, no cuticle oil, the lady didn't even remove all of my previous red polish before painting my nails white! Around 4pm Mimi became very irritated with her client next to me. Mimi was beyond rude to this poor women who did NOTHING wrong. She sort of threw the gel color samples at the woman when the woman noticed Mimi was using the wrong color on her nails. The woman pointed out that underneath her nail needed to be cleaned and MIMI said well what did you do, that's your fault. No Mimi clean the poor lady's nail. I was so upset for the lady next to me that I actually told Mimi to be nice and not so rude. I was appalled. Not to mention, Mimi interrupted the woman's nail appt at least 10 times with phone calls, etc. I left my $20 on the table and walked out. I've had a manicure almost weekly for the past 14 years of my life and have never had such a bad experience at a nail salon. Watch out, this place will leave you upset and feeling pretty bad! I must too comment on the excess amount of awards and signage in and outside the salon as they're definitely a cover up for a huge mess. read more

Nothing special but ok, they are very nice and the owners are multitasking and doing several people at one time. I went since I wanted to clean up my nails for work this week, the nail tech didn't quite get that I didn't want polish on my fingers etc and gave me a little bit of a hard time. But since I am in health care no polish or long nails is a must! I would go back for a clean up. Don't expect any fancy lotions etc. read more

The owner of this salon is rude. I am a part time resident of the area and have given this salon a couple of tries over the last couple of years. Mimi is rude when you are a walk in, appears put off even though the sign on the door clearly indicates she takes walk ins. Even when you schedule an appointment, expect to feel like she is making a concession for your unreasonable request. She is the Soup Zazi of nail salons. I get regular manicures and pedicures and have never been treated so rudely. Today the upcharged manicure she recommended looked so streaky I may as well have had someone paint stripes with white-out in my nails. When I politely asked for something else, she complied, but was visibly pissed. Again, I was extremely polite. In the interim I heard her shouting rudely at a customer who called to schedule. The services are sub par, and be prepared to pay more than you planned with upcharges such as "callous removal" which is standard in every other salon I've visited - high end and moderate. This salon could use a remedial course in customer service 101. Will not be back. read more

This hands down was the worst pedicure I have ever received. I treated myself for my birthday, and was told Ricky was doing my pedicure. It started out where they did not drop anything into the water to sanitize it as it was filling up. They asked me if I wanted to have a hot stone massage added and I said no. He said why you don't want to pay more. He made me feel uncomfortable about it, not to mention the fact that he brought it up again about me not wanting to pay more another time during the pedicure. The pedicure lasted about 15 min, then he went to polish and messed up on 1 nail and instead if starting over on it, he kept adding polish which made it worse. I finally said why don't you just redo it. He said yeah and did. Then it came time to pay and I used a credit card, and he insisted on his tip in cash. I left without my nails dry and told them I don't want to be here anymore. Nice birthday pedicure huh. I would stay away. You deserve to be treated much better.
