If you want to go into a place and feel like you are entering a "prison" come to Sunset Optometric Center . Mayra never greets you, she's rude, demands you sign in,and if you can't find your name in the computer, she gives you an attitude. She never says "please or thank you", " Sign in"!, "sit down!", "date of birth' that's how she addresses patients. What an unpleasant environment. I went in to pick up my glasses, and told Mayra they seem blurry, her response to my concern was: Do you want a case for them? Helloooooooo! NO, they do not have the correct prescription, they are Blurry. She insisted they were computer glasses, and to give them 2 weeks to get better, but I told her I had never had this problem with any other pair, they simply worked immediately, she brushed my comment off, and "I" was about to say something else, when I saw her, rolling her eyes. That did it for me, I told her she was rude, and she was actually taken aback!!!! lol funny how rude people don't know they're rude hahah Not only did I wait more than 4 long weeks to get my glasses, not only were none of my telephone messages returned for weeks, not only did I have to demand a call back from Jessica, the manager, who obviously is way too busy for clients, but they put the wrong prescription on them and I go in and have to deal with this? She took care of all my concerns and needs, and the examination was fast. She was very sweet and gave me pointers on how to improve my vision and take care of my eyes, which is very important. I went to get my yearly eye-exam and renew my prescription. Dr. Calnas is hands down the nicest and most knowledgeable optometrist I've ever visited in my decade of glasses/lenses wearing. She was patient and thorough making sure we got it right and had a follow up to see that my eyes adjusted to the new prescription. The receptionists are all attentive, professional, and caring. They have a nice office with off-street parking in the back a good selection of lenses. The man who helped me (Bernie) had endless patience in helping me find the perfect lenses. The doctor was very friendly. I was extremely satisfied with his technical service because he corrected the incorrect prescription my previous doctor gave me, and he addressed my vision needs to my satisfaction. The only annoyance was that when I was first looking for lenses, I went home to show my family what I was considering on the computer and when I called to ask the front desk what the name of the lenses were, she wouldn't tell me. As if she thought I was just going to buy them online. It was a bit rude. But this place nailed all the big, important criteria for a good optometrist so I'm a fan! read more

Love this place for my contacts. Great location and fantastic service. Highly recommended. The doctors are on point and the people behind the front desk look after you. If you value your money don't patronize this place. Rude office staff, over priced frames, bad service. They made glasses for me that didn't work because of the frames. I had no idea when I purchased them. I TRUSTED the "professionals" at this dump to instruct me on the right frames and lenses for my eyes. Turns out the frames caused a problem rendering the glasses UNUSABLE. They found the issue but then Required a $45 restock fee. So I HAVE TO PAY for their mistake? Since I refuse to pay for ineptitude I will now go without glasses for a full year till my insurance will pay for another pair. They people are no good, don't go there read more

I came here after my sister told me she had a great experience and its only 10 minutes away from my home. I on the other hand did not have such a good visit maybe I came on an off day but it was bad. I usually go the santat monica eye center in santa monica but didnt want to make the drive out, big mistake!! I walked in signed in and waited for 20 minutes after my appointment time to get called in . The doctor that helped me was a woman, she seemed so out of it like she was bored! I did not enjoy coming here and probably will not next time I still have to go back for my contact fitting but not looking forward to it. They do have a parking lot in the back so thats a plus but other than that this place was not what I expected. read more

I ask a lot of questions and she has happy to answer them all even getting into the science behind why she recommended certain things. I was looking for an optometrist for an emergency check up because I had lost my vision in one eye 2 days ago and I wasn't able to find anyone to take me and check out what was wrong with my eye. Then I called the Sunset Optometric Center and they were so amazing. Even my girlfriend was considering changing doctors because of how great of service they have. The staff is friendly the doctors really care and they are extremely professional. I would definitely recommend them to others. Also they have a great sense of style when it comes to eye wear =) who doesn't want to look up-to-date I really enjoyed my visit and will go again if I need to. read more

First of all, there is parking behind the building, so that earns it a high rating from the start. The front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. No long waits. I saw Dr. Canlas and will definitely recommend her to others. She was professional, knowledgeable and just a very pleasant woman, in general. I forgot the guy's name who helped me afterwards while looking at glasses, but he was also very friendly and helpful. Just a good experience, all around. I've found my optometrist. read more

Where to begin...I went in expecting to have a standard annual eye exam. I've been to several optometrist and usually leave with glasses. None of which I use for more than a month. they are always too strong, make me dizzy, no differnce...the list goes on. This is the first time in my life I have lenses that actually serve a purpose and I need/rely on, I had no idea I was straining my eyes on the computer all day as much as I do. I guess when you see a Dr who takes the time to ask the right questions about your habits and lifestyle you end up with a lense that actually works and all sorts of information that is super useful. Next stop choosing a frame....My God Mayra has the patience of an angel. She must have selected and critiqued at least 35 pairs of frames on me. I learned so much about how glasses are supposed to properly sit on your face. The alignment, the space between your nose and the frame, where it should sit. Again more useful information. Overall great experince, hands down the best optometrist experience I have ever had. read more

The worst experience at every turn. First, when I scheduled the appointment I specifically mentioned that I would need a glaucoma test due to family history. Receptionist said no problem, so I got a ride there because you aren't supposed to drive after the test. I go in, they say oh no, we won't be doing that today, we need to schedule another appointment for that! I explain that I'd made special arrangements so that I could be tested that day and they said ok, but I'd have to wait because there was nobody available to administer the test. So all told the appointment took around an hour and a half. OK, so I got everything done, selected my frames (not a great selection, btw), and waited for my new glasses to come in. Well when they did, it was the most disorienting experience imaginable. Something was clearly wrong with them, and some reading has led me to believe the focal centers were misplaced on the lenses, but Sunset Optometric insisted that they were perfect, I was just not used to the prescription yet. They re-examined me, gave me some weaker prescription than the tests called for, re-ordered my lenses, and all told it took over two months to get a pair of glasses I don't even like that much in a weaker prescription than the exam indicates I need. But that's not even the end of it! Now, years later, they have taken to harassing me. They call me, they text me, even though I have responded stating clearly that I will never be coming in to see them again and to take me off their list. So, the rundown: they don't listen to you when you make an appointment, they don't carry good frames, they don't make the lenses correctly, they don't listen to their own tests, and they don't listen when I've asked them never to contact me again. AVOID. These doctors are horrible and can't get a prescription right on the 4th try! I really thought this was going to be my new regular neighborhood optometrist. They failed big time. I went in and had a doctor ask what my prescription was. Huh, what? I had no idea and said a number. She did the exam, was nice, then said my script hasn't changed. I agreed and she gave me contacts to try. I went home and looked at my box of old contacts and the script number was completely different. With the new script i could see at all. They said to come back in. I got a different doctor that said my script was double what it was. Went home with the trials and ordered 2 pair of eyeglasses to find out the script was too strong. I couldn't see, again. Now i had to go back. They tried again, failed. 5 months later the owner doctor took me and i thought he finally got it right. NOPE! I couldn't take it anymore i just accepted the faulty prescription. They didn't even date my prescription right so it was only good for 6 months. read more

I have been looking for a place to get glasses that is open on weekends so I was excited that they are open on Saturdays! I went in and greeted and helped by Mayra. I'm so bad at making decisions, but she was so helpful and patient! I loved my experience here and will go again for another pair when I need to. They take insurance so just ask if you're covered before you go in (like I did) and they can help you! That place felt very expensive if you know what I mean, so I was a little worried because I looked like I just rolled out of bed, but I was treated so warmly that I didn't feel out of place. I use Yelp all the time and never write reviews but Sunset Optometric just sent me a text reminder for my annual exam, which also served as a reminder that I've been meaning to write this review for a year. I went there for an eye exam and a new set of glasses--to their credit, that process went ok. Although, the men's frame collection was somewhat limited but I didn't have the time to shop around for eyeglasses, so I got the best pair I could find and went on my way. When my frames arrived I was too busy to pick them up, so I arranged with staff to have my gf pick them up for me. She arrived a few minutes BEFORE the advertised closing time and not long after I arranged for her to pick them up, only to find the door locked. She knocked and could see two women inside talking. They briefly looked at her and then pretended not to notice her. Now, I've worked in retail and I know it sucks when people show up just before closing, but you need to deal with it since that's the job. I returned the next morning to pick up the glasses but I will never give them my business again for being lame. read more

I've been coming here for the past few years and I show up today to this place looking brand new with new cast members. The only familiar face I saw was this gentleman named Ferny who has always helped me make the right decision when it came to picking out glasses. Well this new place sux as far as service. I felt a bit cheated during the eye exam and it felt like she only wanted to give me an exam for contacts that I could only purchase there when in the past I have had my glasses and contacts checked and they have gave me my prescription for contacts right there and then. It sure wasn't the case this time. I guess it's time to look for a new Optometrist. And to all those friends and family that I recommended will also hear about my poor visit to this place. I am extremely satisfied with this Optometry. I visited 4 different optometrists in my area that my insurance covered before I decided this was the one. For one, the staff is nice. The front desk is pretty efficient and make you feel welcome and tended to. Second, the optometrists are excellent. Dr. Garza is very thorough, easy going and down to earth. He is patient and answers any questions you have. Dr. Vargas is the sweetest woman you will ever meet. I mean syrupy sweet, but in a very kind way. She is very helpful and just nice. Even the opticians are very helpful and give you good advice when selecting frames. I also really like that there is a wide selection of frames and even if your insurance isn't the greatest you can still select from a very good variety. As far as the office itself, it is clean and has a/c, the layout is nice you don't feel like you're stuck in some boring waiting room because it has a relaxed atmosphere. What else? There's free parking behind the office that is easy to get to and there are always good spaces available. I almost don't want to write this review because I'm afraid people will mess it up, but I wanted to give them credit. I hope they continue to provide good service because we will certainly be back. read more
