SCAMMING PEOPLE WITH DEEP CLEANING They only want to get as much money out of you as possible. My insurance was covering a free cleaning and instead they told me that they can't do a regular cleaning but a "deep" cleaning that would cost me $600. I take real good care of my teeth and do regular cleanings and checkups, I don't have any problems. But they insisted it's too big of a responsibility for them. I JUST WANTED A CLEANING NOT A BRAIN SURGERY. I stood up and left and replaced them with another dentist that my insurance was offering. This dental office is shady. I got some major dental work done & was paying out of pocket. This meant they were making more money for dental procedures since they are not dealing with insurance. My bill was around $1800 dollars & I wanted to pay by credit card. They wanted to charge me a credit card usage fee if I was using my credit card even if it was a debit from my checking account. Who carry that much cash around with them nowadays? This left a bad taste in my mouth seeing how they only care about the cash & not their customers convenience. My new review.... I don't know what happened to this place. As you can see from the below review, I used to love it here. Now, everyone is new and they are all scam artists. They forced me to get a deep clean after I specifically told them I didn't want it. They actually refused to give me the regular cleaning which I had booked. Then they charged me double and said they couldn't get a hold of my insurance. Finally, I had to come back in person to receive the refund. They also told three people that I know that they needed root canals. Two out of those three people got second and third opinions. Neither needed root canals. My old review many years ago.... I LOVE IT HERE!!! I love and work downtown. So when it came time for me to find a dentist, I, of course, started my search there. I had a terrifying experience and was desperate for a new doctor. I was then referred to the Sunset Plaza Dental where I made an appointment the very next day. After my first experience, I walked in extremely nervous and not knowing what to expect. It was perfect. Went here for a check up and cleaning, was told that I had cavities that needed filling. Got a second opinion, and was told at the other dentist that my teeth were in great shape and didn't have cavities. They also wanted to charge me for a medicine to help with "sensitivity" after the filling was done, which I looked into--the medicine is not used in fillings, so I don't know what they were talking about. Trust the negative reviews, this place will scam you. I went to see Dr. Poneh last year, and they tried to scam me. The entire visit felt like a sales pitch. After barely looking at my teeth, she claimed that I needed invisalign. She didn't recommend it, she said I needed it. She said my teeth were very crooked and that it would get worse with age, and would cause health problems. After telling me that, they forced me to watch a video on invisalign (I literally felt like I was in a timeshare meeting). After the video ended, the receptionist came in and started going over how much it would cost, and how much my insurance would cover. I didn't even agree to getting invisalign lol. After that, they refused to clean my teeth because they said I needed a deep cleaning, which my insurance would not cover and was going to cost around $200. They would NOT do a normal cleaning on my teeth, so I literally got nothing from this dentist visit. A year later (today), I went to another dentist, and she said I did not need invisialign. My teeth are not crooked enough to warrant them, and would only recommend for aethestic reasons. My new dentist also had no problem doing a normal cleaning on my teeth and did not say I needed a deep cleaning. Also, Dr. Poneh said I had cavities that needed to be filled, and it was going to cost a crazy amount, like $400+ When I called later to ask how they were getting $400, they said I needed some premium filling and they got irritated when I kept asking questions. I'm writing this review immediately after having my top two wisdom teeth extracted. dr rafi had my teeth out in 30 min or less with zero pain! The only pinch was the Novocaine in the beginning which is totally normal even with just a cavity. Every one in this office is so kind and truly care for you. Feels like family! I went to Dr. Assudani at Sunset Plaza Dental because I was looking for an invisalign specialist. I wanted a professional who I could trust 110% with my precious smile. I wanted a relationship where I could pester the office with questions all day long, and pop in without much notice to have my smile checked out. I had read a lot of horror stories about dentist and hastily filing teeth or even extracting to make room for movement.... and that scared the shit out of me. Okay people...this place is amazing! I had an accident involving a Bird scooter, my face, and the pavement. Needless to say the pavement won and I shattered three of my front teeth. I am lucky to have always had pretty good teeth to begin with so obviously after the accident I was shocked and devastated. I had never been to Sunset Plaza and honestly the only reason I did was because they were on my insurance plan. Janet was able to get me in right away and was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. Dr. Rojtman and Rea were awesome did an amazing job!! I honestly don't know how to say thank you enough. They made me feel comfortable from beginning to end. They even stayed after close to make sure my temporary teeth were the prefect fit and that my new permanent teeth would be even better. Two weeks later I received my "real" teeth.. THEY ARE PERFECT! They look exactly like the original! I can not believe how awesome they look and how quickly they were able to fix it. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Rojtman and his team. BEWARE!! If you go here, you will likely be scammed. I went here a few times last year (before Covid) when I needed a new dentist, they seemed okay. I got a cleaning and a filling. Went back yesterday and was told that this time, I needed a "deep cleaning", as well as mandatory x-rays, and then was told that I needed 2 crowns. My antennas immediately went up. I told them I did not want x-rays and wouldn't pay for it, and told them to go ahead with the deep cleaning (for some reason, they told me that legally, they could only clean half of my mouth). As I was leaving, I scheduled 2 more visits, one for each crown. I was very suspicious. I got home and immediately called around for a new dentist, and got lucky, finding one that was rated well with an opening for today. I went, told him my story, he looked at my mouth and did additional x-rays and said that there is no evidence whatsoever that should lead any qualified dentist to think that any of my teeth needed a crown. He also said that there was no reason why a normal cleaning wouldn't be more than enough for me, and that any mention of a "deep cleaning" was a scam. I called Sunset Plaza back today to cancel my appointments, when they asked why, I told them my story. They didn't seem the least bit surprised about what they were hearing. My experience with this dental office was very bad. When I went there most recently for a routine cleaning they told me that I needed a deep cleaning at $200. per quadrant and that newX-Rays were mandatory, required by law! I told them I didn't want X-rays and just a routine cleaning. I told them I would leave if they would not do that. Waiting to leave I looked for on line for the California law about mandatory x-rays, and found out that there is no such law only a recommendation that x-rays be taken prior to extractions for orthodontics. When I showed this to the dental hygienist that said this to me she then denied she ever said it. I then asked for a print out of their schedule of charges and they could not produce one nor could they produce any print out that showed the x-ray law. Then when I asked to see the dentist/owner of the business, he peddled back saying my X-rays were recent enough to do the routine cleaning. I left at this point because I no longer had any trust in anything they said. I felt I was being scammed. Also, they were not practicing proper Covid-19 protocol in that they had patients in adjacent areas being worked on without proper doors or barriers separating them. A day later I requested my X-rays to be emailed and for the dentist to call me. He never did, so that tells you how much he cares about his patients versus making money. read more

We recently relocated from the Eastcoast, my husband and I had our yearly check up and xrays as new patients in December 2022 with this office. We have insurance 100/90/60 with a $50ded and $2000 max. My husband needed an upper molar with a hole to be pulled. He's wasn't in pain, the tooth had been broken since before Covid and food gets caught in it and it's annoying. The dentist insisted that he also had to have a bone graph and he needed a "deep cleaning" with water that was not covered by our insurance. I had to have a "deep cleaning" as well. They never mentioned once if I needed any fillings. I asked Maria the receptionist for out treatment plan with all services to be done and estimated costs. I was told it wasn't ready by the end of my visit and it would be sent to me. Still have not received any treatment plan. On the day of the appt. My husband decided to only do the extraction and not the bone graph which is $300 each side with our insurance. He's not interested in replacing that molar with an implant and there's nothing for a partial to attach to. He's not comfortable at all with dentists and dental pain so he didn't want to have anxiety about an extraction and deep cleaning done at the same visit. He wanted the deep cleaning at later date, however I called 2 days before the appt. to notify the office and get the correct cost of the extraction and deductible, for 10 minutes Maria insisted that our insurance must have changed because now our deductible was $25 higher and the % of coverage was lower so our of pocket cost would be almost $700 with insurance, how could this be? What they don't realize is that I worked for a dental office for 5 years. I know the deception that goes on. On the Eastcoast, everyone is in need of crowns that never stay cemented or continue to break, debridements and deep cleanings (root scalings) are also popular. Maria finally realized they had 2 patients with the same name, she did ask me for our address and birthdates so I'm not sure what's going on. Finally after all that, once I tell her that we were only coming for the extraction, she told me the dentist wasn't going to see him and he needed to go to the specialist. An oral surgeon Dr Eli Tabariai...her friend with more bad reviews than good. That's not caring about your patients...that's greed. No thank you. I called the insurance, reported my experience and was told it's my husband's mouth and insurance. We can chose what services we want done. They also did fillings for my daughter and filled in an foreign metal into her tooth which they had to pry out. Omg! I should have read their reviews first.
