Rolly and his company are definitely not the cheapest painters but they are local so i gave them a chance because he gave a great spiel on their quality workmanship. After finishing the work which included replacing wood panels they rushed at late in the evening. The next morning i found large nails scattered through my yard along with a few cans and others items they forgot. Shortly after cracking began to form in paint and the sealants which he said was top quality. Unfortunately after multiple calls and texts absolutely no response. Rolly is amazing!!!! His whole crew were wonderful. I have 2 boys under 5 and they insisted on watching and "helping" the guys work on the house. Rollys crew was so patient with them and even took 5 mins to play with them. We initially thought it was going to take 3-4 days, it ended up taking 7ish days. I ended up adding some framing around the windows to modernize our 70's house, and there was a lot of stucco cracks and wood rot that needed to be fixed. But let me tell you, my house is COMPLETELY caulked up. His crew even came out on the weekend to get more work done!! Rolly is super easy to get a hold of and even texted me back late one night when I was still deciding on colors and trying to get HOA approval. They use Sherwin Williams paint and if you go to the store they can do paint consultations. I have recommended Sunset to everyone I know. We needed to repaint the interior of our entire house (about 4500sqft). Rolly was prompt in visiting the house and providing a quote. His crew was able to start in a timely manner. They were always on time, very polite and did an outstanding job on the house. They were extremely accommodating timeline-wise and showed a lot of flexibility when we decided through the job to add a few extra things like baseboards, doors, staircase etc. The work was very high quality and done with care. We just had the exterior of our house painted by Rolly and his team. From the beginning, when Rolly came to give me a quote, until the walk-through at the end, service was great. I also took a particularly long time to pick out a color (we waited 1.5 months for our week to get the house painted), and Rolly was very patient with me. I had a few colors picked out, but guess what - I ended up picking the stucco and front door colors that Rolly choose (he tossed in a few other colors besides what I asked for when he painted on the samples). If you are struggling with color selection, point out what houses in your area you do like, and let Rolly make a few suggestions and go with it! It took a week for our home to be painted - from power washing until all the hardware got put back up. We recently bought a new home in San Ramon and decided to get the walls painted. Since it's our first home, I had no idea how much painting would cost and figured the only way to learn was to get bids from painters. That's where Yelp came in. We called another local painter whom we found on Yelp and shall remain unnamed. He stopped by for a bid and unfortunately we did not enjoy his "sales-y" tactics. For one, he was there for an hour and a half to look at a 720 sq foot condo- as if I don't have other things to do than sit here and listen to you complain about how it's a tough industry to be in. Second, he kept saying things like "this is such a small job, I don't know if it's worth my team coming out here" and "how much are you willing to pay"? To say the least, we were not impressed. After doing more research on Yelp, we decided to call Rolly and were delighted when he was able to come for a same day estimate. He showed up with his adorably handsome 20-something year old son and they were fast and accurate while doing their walk through. Not to mention, it was adorable watching him teach his son what he was doing throughout the whole process. As soon as he left, we knew we wanted him to paint our house and we didn't need any more estimates. After coming back to us with a price point a little higher than expected and us countering, he was able to match our budget and get started ASAP, which was a huge selling point for us. Throughout the entire prep process, he was efficient and available. He responded to emails within hours and was always flexible when we were being picky (ex: Kelly Moore paint for the bedroom, Valspar paint for the living room). His brother and son showed up a couple days early to review the contract and pick up the colors from us. They were very organized and exact while filing out the forms, which helped since we're new at the whole process. Since the rest of the process was so flawless, we were so excited to have Rolly in on PAINT DAY! His team showed up right on time and immediately got to work. It only took them a couple hours to tape and cover all the furniture, and we were really impressed since the other painter had estimated it would take his team half a day just to prep! Rolly had his team come for 2.5 days but informed us that we did not need to be there during the painting. Since we didn't have many valuables in the home, we didn't mind opening the door and leaving them there while we were at work. The result? Coming home to a beautifully done home! We received several quotes and chose Sunset because they were the lowest quote with the most 5 stars. They were actually almost $2,000 under another local Livermore painting contractor. We had our exterior painted and have a regular size 1 level home, so the other quote was just ridiculous to us. I'll just use the pros and cons list. Pros: Best price, professional, on time, workers were considerate and prompt. They did a good job on prepping the house, did lots of minor repairs on the rails, spindles and walls. Took about 4 or 5 days which is what was expected. Did a great job on the painting! Nicely painted, trim looks great, very happy with the job. They also take credit cards which was a plus. Cons: The workers were a bit messy. They would leave things lying around, tape, screws, etc. all over the ground and left quite a bit a trash that we had to go around and pick up after the job was done. There was also some feet print in our driveway from the new paint and on the porch so we let them know and they cleaned it up. There was also some over spray in the rocks in our backyard. Nothing too serious, but enough to take back 1 star. read more

I used Sunset painting a decade ago. I had got three estimates back then and Rolly (Owner) came in lowest. His crew is meticulous. The are friendly and hard working. They did a wonderful job on our house. They give you a written estimate outlining the agreed work etc and they follow what they said they would do. They give you two coats when they say they will. FFW to this year, I called up Rolly and asked him to come out and give me an estimate for the painting of the outside of the house. I also had two other written estimates. Rolly beat their prices by a fair amount and only increased their price from a decade ago by about 20%. Not bad. They spent an entire week painting the house and it came out dreamt again. Same crew of outstanding hard working people. About a month later I called up Rolly again and asked him to give me a price for painting our kitchen cabinets, stairway, and entertainment center. The amount of preparation and detail his crew goes thru was just incredible. They do not take short cuts. The kitchen came out spectacular as did my epoxy garage floor. We hired Rolly to paint all of our cabinetry about 1.5 years ago. It happened to rain while they were in the middle of the job and they continued to paint. We noticed after the cabinets were put back together that the cabinets remained sticky (still sticky to this day) and began to peel. The cabinet doors were also put together so poorly that we have gaps between them and they rub together in some areas. We have attempted to call him a number of times and he has never returned the call. I notice that his reviews for painting walls is good, maybe not so good for cabinetry or follow up on concerns. read more

We wanted to have our house painted while we were going to be away for a few days. I wanted a quality job from a contractor I could trust as well as a contractor that I would not have to micro-manage through the process (as I had had to do the last time my house was painted!). Based on the very positive experience that my neighbor had had with Rolly I decided to hire Sunset to do the job and also the necessary repairs. Through the entire process Rolly was easy to communicate with and completely professional. As an example, when his crew showed up to power wash the house prior to starting their prep-work the crew knocked on my door, introduced themselves and told me exactly what they would be doing. This might seem like a little thing but it is emblematic of Sunset's professional attitude towards their customers. We were away during the majority of the work done by Sunset. When we returned all the work was completed and I had to really look to see any indication of the fact that Subset had been there at all -- the clean up was that good. The paint work and repairs were all first rate and we are completely satisfied with the results. UPDATE: We had Rolly and Sunset Painting & Decorating paint the exterior or our home last week (Aug 2018). It's sometimes difficult to deal with vendors/contractors from afar since we live in So. Cal. and our rental property is in No. Cal. This is not the case with Rolly. He quickly went to the house to provide an estimate which we approved. I provided the the paint name, code and manufacturer for the body and trim. We scheduled a date which coincided with the week we would be in San Ramon working of the property. As always, Rolly's crew arrived on time, worked quickly and cleanly, and was a pleasure to deal with. Rolly has previously painted the interior or our property twice, and now has painted the exterior. The interior was last painted in 2014 and still looks great, especially for a rental property. No fading or chipping anywhere to be seen. No touch-ups required. The quality of work is beautiful. It took about 4 days from power washing to completion. My husband is a stickler for perfection, and was very happy with the job. While in No. Cal., I learned that Sunset Painting recently painted the house of my nextdoor neighbor.
