We were staying at the hotel and thought we would just go downstairs to "stay in". We were so impressed - the food and wine was amazing. We got the scallops and charcuterie board. We had a beautiful view of the ocean. There was live music and the service was amazing! Outstanding evening

This is a picture of the table we couldn't sit at because we were only a table of 5.... Not 6 or more.

Complete crap. Let's begin the disastrous review of this restaurant that you need to avoid. I've had better food and service from the free breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn. Not kidding. This place doesn't deserve 1 star but I have to give it something in order to complete this review. This is the only place to get a hot breakfast in the hotel. It's buffet only. You don't get water without getting up to get it yourself because of "the drought". Um, OK. I'm sure the 6 ounce glass that you use for water is going to push California's drought condition over the edge. Meanwhile, the shower head in the rooms pour out water like Niagara Falls. Still not sure why we had to get our water ourselves. Were the servers going to get parched by the walk across the room thereby requiring them to consume a lot of water?? On to the next thing... Cold food that wasn't even cooked thoroughly. Not only could they not cook it thoroughly, they couldn't keep up with the demand of the 25% full restaurant because there were no under-cooked hashbrowns available for 15 minutes. The entire pan sat empty for 15 minutes. I don't know what the 3 "waitresses" were doing while the food was running out because they weren't even serving anything but coffee (note my previous comment about getting up to get your own water). I guess it would be too much for them to tell the cooks that they needed to under-cook more food. We couldn't even have a decent table next to the window because the table was "only" for parties of 6 or more. We only had a party of 5. Meanwhile, that table and other tables that sat 6 - 10 people sat vacant the entire time because only a fraction of the place was full. Here's the deal: this place needs new management. The serving staff was very sweet but they were clueless and totally lacking direction and structure. Spend your time driving to another place and stay away from this place.

My cousin came to visit from Texas so we stayed at Chaminade for the two nights he was here over the July 4th weekend. We had breakfast here both mornings. Walking up to the room, we were immediately greeted and given an explanation of how the breakfast buffet worked. We were also told that we could order a custom omelette from the chef, which we did. There was plenty of typical breakfast food to choose from but it was clearly of higher quality than other hotels because they clearly made an effort to put out the right amounts of food to keep it fresh. We never had to wait on refills of our coffees and waters and our empty plates were almost instantly whisked away once we had emptied them. The second morning, there were the same typical breakfast foods with a few different varieties that I was grateful for. I think buffet breakfast was $15/adult which is really not bad considering the great service and comfort you experience, not to mention the convenience of not having to drive elsewhere. I also made reservations for dinner here for one night. Again, I was greeted immediately as I walked up to the area and given a brief explanation of what was available. From my name on the reservation, I was happily surprised that the entire wait staff seemed to know me by name. David (I think was his name) even helped us pick out a wine and poured us a bit to try in case we didn't like it. Just like breakfast, the quality and speed of service was incredible. The wait staff works hard, yet they happily assist you as quickly and as well as they can. Each person I interacted with was extremely pleasant and played a surprisingly large role in how I rated Chaminade as a whole. Judging from the older reviews, management has clearly made some changes as my experience was a COMPLETE 180 from the reviewers' a few years back. I highly recommend giving the Sunset a shot if you're on the fence.

All you can eat for $15.95. Serve yourself. But there is a waffle and omelette station where you can order

Very nice view but the food is not impressive! Liked their desserts though, and their teriyaki chicken. But steaks and fish were ok.

Everyone in our group had a connection to Nepal and to a lesser extent India, whether through having been born there or having lived or traveled there extensively. By the time we finished, most of the restaurant was full, including with families. We were pleased to find an Indian buffet in Santa Cruz, and found many of our favorites on the buffet, including chicken tandoori, meat and veggie curries, basmati rice, daal (lentils), naan (bread), pakora (deep-fried fritters), raita (yogurt), salad, chutneys, and more. However, we all agreed that, while there was a good variety of food on the buffet and it was of acceptable taste, some of the curries were bland and watery, lacking the depth and complexity of spices usually found in Indian food. We wondered if the spiciness had been toned down for presumed American tastes? Some other reviewers also mentioned that the buffet included chai (warm sweet spiced milk tea); I'm disappointed to have missed this personal favorite! I forgot how much we paid for the buffet, but it seemed reasonable for the Santa Cruz area. The restaurant was bright, with a mix of tables (with white tablecloths) and booths. We didn't see too much of the staff, but they were helpful when called. The bathroom could use more attention. Parking was sufficient, easy to access, and free. The restaurant offers catering. We would return when next in Santa Cruz.

We were amazed by their service. Extremely affordable! In my experience, this restaurant is the most affordable with lots of choices. Highly recommended!!!

I was happily surprised to see a katsu menu (even a plate of mixed katsu), ramen (even Cheesy Ramen), and sushi rolls. I came with friends because we were craving classic Korean BBQ dishes, like spicy hot tofu soup and Dol Sot Chicken Bibimbap (clay pot with sizzling rice at the bottom - yum!) and soju (Korean wine), but we ended up also getting Japanese dishes, like unagi donburi (fresh water eel). Plus, as a classic Korean BBQ place, Sesame served the little dishes of Korean goodies, like kimchi, and they were so refreshingly tasty and obviously homemade! You know it's a good place when you are thinking about what dishes you want to order the next time you come, whom you want to invite, and where the takeout menu is! Service was okay: we were seated quickly and food arrived at a good pace. We had to ask for a few things, like remind them of our drinks, and wasn't checked on, but our server was easy to find and we had no complaints because we were too busy devouring our food and toasting with our pomegranate soju. Other things to note for first time customers: - Parking can be a little tricky because the lot in front of the restaurant is limited to about 5 cars only! Try across the street! Also beware that street parking meters are strictly enforced. - Drinks are delicious. Get them. - The place is spacious, so it's food for large groups. - Ambiance is more of a family restaurant (nothing fancy). The most important takeaways are: the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable!

I like how the food here seems to be authentic Korean recipes, and is made with a level of quality and care not always found in more specialized dishes. Service here is also top notch! This is a great spot to go if you are craving Korean comfort food.

I enjoyed the Halibut and J the sand dabs but we ended up swapping plates to get both of us a bite of each entree. We brought in a Bargetto 2024 Viognier from an earlier in the day tasting which complemented both dishes and finished with a rich Ollaliebery pie slice ala mode. Ordered the grass fed rib eye burger, medium, but had to send it back for a re-do. Grass fed often comes out dry and this was no exception. But if you're paying $30 for a burger I figured we should be happy with it. Our server Gabriel agreed and the second one was much better. Gabriel was friendly, efficient and we certainly would ask for him in the future. Crab cake was decent, as was the salad bar. My martini was good sized and I made my own bleu cheese olives via the salad bar bleu which was a nice touch. I'd come back again to try out the Happy Hour and upstairs.
