I found this place on Yelp earlier today. Despite living quite close, I had never been here and the reviews are very good. It's a small intimate restaurant with a nice ambience in Gainey Village. The proprietor greeted us at the door in a very friendly manner and led us to a table. It's Tuesday night and it was not busy, but my water glass was kept full which I always appreciate. They have a nice selection of cocktails and wines and the menu shows that there's a happy hour although we weren't in time for it. Based on the yelp reviews, my husband ordered the burger and said it was very good. I ordered the special which was a cod in a red sauce with basmati rice. The sauce was flavorful. The cod was cooked to perfection and it was a very nice dish. I would definitely like to go back and try happy hour read more

We went to happy hour today and it was fantastic! It's a small place and it wasn't very busy so it was quiet and calm. The food we ordered was fantastic. I ordered the hummus nachos and they were so delicious. My dining companion ordered the salmon and she loved it. The service was good and I cannot think of a reason you would not enjoy this place. Fabulous cuisine, superb wine offerings, congenial service, informal, casual atmosphere, good prices. We don't get to Scottsdale often enough, but when we do SunSet is a treasure. Pan-seared salmon is to die for; all the ravioli dishes are terrific. read more

A friend and I went on a Saturday night for dinner, we did email the owner for reservations to ensure we had a table. Walking in and noticed the space is small and intimate with background music that is the perfect volume. We were between a couple wines abs was able to do a taste before committing to our final choices. I had the lobster ravioli which was very good and not too filling. My date had the fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp. Ha said the grated Parmesan was a little salty and shrimp was heavily seasoned, would recommend a little less seasoning on shrimp. The sauce wasn't heavy which was good and noodles perfect. The desert was amazing, pears with ice cream and chocolate, yum. This relatively small French restaurant well deserves it five star rating. The owner, a transplant from France, is exceptionally friendly - and everything that he has to offer has been wonderful over the half dozen times or so we have eaten here. Absolutely fantastic! We had hummus nachos, mushroom ravioli and salmon. The Brussels sprouts served with the salmon were so delicious. I could've eaten 3 servings, easily! They brought macarons at the end of the meal, nice touch. The wine was great and everything was so reasonably priced. The service was wonderful as well. Tried this newly opened wine bistro for happy hour. Ordered a glass of rosé, which was $3 off during happy hour and the hummus nacho was $2 off. There was only one rosé on the menu, and it was not sparkling, which is my preference. The hummus nacho was very underwhelming and a small portion. First time trying Sunset tonight. Met friends who are big fans of this local place. Go here if you love French wine. This place has rose, white & red covered. Not a large list but really good & ridiculously priced for AZ. Ambience is luxe French bistro. Food was solid. It was 108 outside but tomato bisque with grilled cheese sounded awesome & it was. As an entrepreneur myself, I know the heart and soul it takes to start and keep a business up and running, and you can see and taste the love this owner has poured into Sunset. If you're sick of cookie cutter, mass produced, overpriced food that lacks love and flavor, run, don't walk, to Sunset Wine Bistro. The owner is an incredible chef who had a very successful restaurant with his father in France before coming to the states. Scottsdale is so lucky he found us and decided to have his encore restaurant here. We will be back for sure. I had the most fabulous meal here last night. The food, the wine, the charm of our host and the ambiance were all part of the package. This was a sumptuous indulgence I can't wait to repeat. We have already reserved a table for next week. Tantalizing fresh delicacies made from scratch combined with the delightful amiable proprietor Romain made the whole evening exceptional and wonderful. There are many nice places to eat in Scottsdale, but a great restaurant is about much more than food. This is a fantastic restaurant for any occasion. It is an absolute hidden gem. The food is amazing and well priced. The owner said they make everything from scratch and it is so fresh. If you're doing a wine tasting, they'll tell you a little bit about each wine. Food (N/A): We were on a liquid diet during this visit. Drinks (4/5): The Wine Collective participates in the Scottsdale Wine Walk along with five other wineries in Old Town. You can get a passport at any of the locations for $5 and then you'll receive a discount off of flights at each. You also get a stamp upon completing your mission at each spot. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

I'm not a fan of valet, but I'll take free valet service (minus the tip) over paying more for self parking. Now, let's get to the good stuff. As the self-appointed king of speakeasies, I'm back with another one. Ambiance: (4.5/5): I won't give all of the clues away, but walk to the third floor, look for a book shelf, and you're on the right track. Once you get inside, you'll find an intimate speakeasy. We're talking seating for 12 or so people or so, tops. I imagine getting a seat on a weekend is quite tough, so take that into account and make a reservation. When you do, you'll find out that there's a $25 cancellation fee per person if you cancel within 24 hours of your reservation. Food (N/A): While they do have food, I was on a liquid diet on this visit. Drinks (4/5): When I go to a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity. You'll find that here for the most part, though I wish the list of craft cocktails was a little larger. There were only two or so cocktails that struck my fancy. I went with the one with green chartreuse, which is always a treat. But, when I'm at a speakeasy, I'm hoping that at least half of the selection intrigues me. Despite the limited selection, the cocktails are well made and have an interesting blend of flavors. The Madam is a true speakeasy (no signage and an ambiance which is true to the history of speakeasies), which makes them a winner in my book.

With a name like Montauk, and the beach decor, I expected more fresh seafood options on the menu. More than half the menu was not seafood (Mediterranean platter, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, brussels sprouts, salads, etc.). Unfortunately, Montauk does not live up to the hype.

Last night, I arrived a few minutes early for our 6:15 reservation for a party of 2 while my dining companion was parking her car. The hostess took me to a table outside, on their empty patio, and said it was the only table they had. I explained that sitting in 105 ℉ heat and very high humidity around a sea of empty tables would not make for a pleasant dining experience. Do you have another table, please? Recognizing that their tables were probably all booked, I offered for us to sit at a high-top in the bar area or at the bar, if that would help. There were open high-top tables and several open seats at the bar. Well, even that was fruitless. I was informed that the open bar seats were "reserved for the owner's daughter," which was an effective way of telling me my business is unimportant to them. Meanwhile, an older gentleman in a suit who appeared to be a host, stood there watching the situation and doing nothing to help honor our reservation. So, I left. As someone who enjoys their food and has patronized DiMaggio's on multiple occasions, their dismissive treatment left me not wanting to return. So, if you have a reservation, I suggest confirming that they have an acceptable table for your party's needs. And as for the guy in a suit, next time do something to help your guests and hostesses alike.

That alone was a turn-off to make us not want to return. We were on the patio and the weather was nice. Not much indoor seating, so I wonder how they stay busy in the summer. The ahi tuna was so good, probably my favorite dish of the night. The rack of lamb was cooked really well, and the short rib was good too, just needed a more salt or something in my opinion. Still enjoyed it though. The cheesecake was divine. Panna cotta was yummy. Definitely the perfect way to end the meal. Our server was polite and let me try a couple wines before choosing, which I appreciated. We made a reservation and got seated quickly, even with it being Valentine's Day. Ambiance was dark and moody. We were the last ones out the restaurant, never felt rushed. Atmosphere was great for a date night. Bathrooms were clean, but the floor felt a little slippery. Overall, we had a great dinner and would definitely go back.
