We came for lunch on Mother's Day to celebrate and had a great experience. We ordered the baked to order focaccia to start, which was hot and fresh when I came out and delicious. I ordered the sausage pizza for my entree and really enjoyed it. I even shared some with my son and he loved it as well. My husband ordered the hot short rib sandwich and ended up bringing half home for a second meal. He liked his sandwich but felt it was very rich with the garlic aioli and two cheeses. Parma is a study in consistency in a landscape that often treats consistency as an optional ingredient. Particularly among the parade of "Italian" restaurants north of the 101, up Scottsdale Road, through Carefree and Cave Creek. Truth be told, Parma is usually my surrender spot; the place that talks me out of making the drive further south to Guido's or Andreoli's. I tend to alternate between a Bianco pizza and the Shrimp Fra Diavolo. The pizza avoids the common sins of excess. It's not drowning in garlic, not overloaded with cheese, not trying to impress anyone. Just good dough, good cheese, and the simple pleasure of the "C" word...carbs. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo arrives with plenty of heat but, not heat for the sake of it. There are plenty of large shrimp, and the pasta feels like someone in the kitchen actually cared. Add a couple glasses of Chianti and a Fernet-Branca to close the deal, and suddenly you've spent three hours somewhere you intended to spend one. Kate behind the bar is exactly what a bartender should be...steady, gracious, attentive without performing attentiveness. The kind of person who improves the experience simply by being good at her job. I've never had an off experience at Parma. This was a first time experience for me, but my mom and dad have been there a few times before. So naturally we took the experienced diners with us to provide recommendations. Our server, Katie, was helpful, kind and swift with keeping us hydrated and fed. Food was fresh, hot and delicious! The focaccia was addictive and to die for. Worth every bite, calorie and penny! We sat outside because the toddler came with us and we didn't want his noise infiltrating the indoor space. Parma is a cute, Italian restaurant that has a neighborhood feel. The restaurant isn't very big, but when the weather is nice they have the bar windows up so it feels very open. I've eaten there a few times for date night, friend's birthday, couples dinner, and just to sit at the bar to enjoy drinks and appetizers. They say the menu is a combo of Italian and California coastal, meaning fresh food with old traditions that highlight the quality of the ingredients. I think they do just that. We've always had friendly service, the menu is responsibly priced for what you're getting and for the location. The warm sea salt Focaccia bread with truffle butter is a must! The roasted mushroom toast is fantastic, the flavor is so good. We also enjoy the grilled octopus, the presentation is so pretty and it's such a unique dish. It's a seasonal so when it's there order it! Parma has a great selection of homemade pastas, I like their butternut squash agnolotti and the linguini and clams, Yum! They give you a good number of clams in the dish compared to some places. They do have gluten free pasta as well. The wood fired pizza are great, I like the Bianca. If you sit inside close to the doors leading to the patio expect to be inundated by flys on you and or your food, so not a fan of that. We ordered drinks at first and opted for no wine, but the wine glasses stayed on the table until we left. Got the appetizer Fritto Misto and enjoyed it, but again it stayed on the table the whole time we were there. (we were at a two seater table) Got our entrées and they were great, but not once did we get a check in to make sure everything was ok. Located in a shopping center in North Scottsdale that it shares with other businesses including an Indian restaurant, parking shouldn't be a problem. Ambiance (4/5): Parma is a relatively small, but elegant and homey Italian restaurant. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. In addition to booths, they have table top seating and a small bar. It's a nice neighborhood restaurant. Service (4.5/5): My server was only 21 but he did a great job taking care of us. He was friendly, efficient, and offered recommendations when I asked. All in all, the service experience was quite pleasant. Drinks (4.5/5): This is an area where Parma shines. Beyond your typical assortment of adult beverages that you'll find at an Italian restaurant, they have an interesting cocktail menu that incorporates Italian ingredients. Case in point: a limoncello margarita. I couldn't say no to this fusion of Italian and Mexican flavors. At an Italian restaurant, it's also important to me that they have a decent selection of Italian wines. You'll find that here. Food (4/5): I went with the chicken Alfredo, one of my favorite Italian dishes. I don't have it often, because it's not the most healthy of options, but boy is it delicious when done right. Tried Parma for the first time last night with my husband and daughter. We got the Focaccia which was OMGeeee so good! I had the meatball appetizer. These were as close to homemade as you can get! Melt in your mouth soft and the sauce was fantastic! My husband had lasagna. Very delicious! My daughter had the rigatoni Alfredo with chicken and really enjoyed! The food here is amazing! We've been here a few times, and we like to sit outside. We noticed they updated the tables and chairs which is nice because the old ones were getting gross and the tables weren't stable. But the new patio setup is great! Our favorites here are the chicken piccata, Marsala and Parmesan. Amazing. The sauces are tasty and perfect and the artichoke hearts, and mushrooms... so good! Dreaming about it. My daughter and I can never decide so we split the piccata and Marsala. We also like "nonnas meatball" and the salad with the mozzarella (baccala?), balsamic vinaigrette, and heirloom tomatoes. The service is great also. And they bought heat lamps- yay! Our fave Italian restaurant in Scottsdale. (But for "East coast" pizza, I prefer Yo Paulys). Come here for authentic Italian dishes. I ordered a eggplant parmigiana and it was terrible! The dish had eggplant that tasted like cardboard. To make matters worst they had red sauce on the eggplant and get this the rigatoni had a creamy Alfredo sauce and that tasted like paste. Furthermore, they had the audacity to charge for ICE ... I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone ever. My wife ordered grilled Spanish octopus was dried , and looked like it was someone else's leftovers. Since then, though, the place has really improved and become a semi-regular on the restaurant rotation -- very much a neighborhood place, where you can be comfortable for a date night or a casual meal. I was quite surprised with the quality and of the pizza, apparently the dough is and sauce are all made in house. Italian restaurants are quite ubiquitous and numerous in Scottsdale and many claim to have homemade ingredients but usually it's just frozen food that's reheated, and made to look fancy. Location is great. The Manager, Kate, is the most engaging and caring Manager that I have met in North Scottsdale. Sam and Brian are always friendly and the service is great. Food is consistently good. As a pescatarian, I would love to see a few more options for appetizers and entrees. I love their outdoor patio but the misters don't work. We have been craving some Italian and happened into this local little gem- it looks kinda lackluster on the exterior (honestly, we almost passed it up thinking it was closed-but, someone came out) Once inside it's a darling atmosphere that makes you feel sophisticated & cozy at the same time!! Brian our fantastic server hand made a strawberry lemonade for me from scratch because he didn't want to serve the premade stuff while he wasn't busy!! That's cool- and it was Fabulous!!! He recommended the clam linguine, I have always wanted to try it and he said it wouldn't disappoint- it didn't!! Delicious broth with the pasta, clams were flavorful no sand!! Under notes of lemon but not too much- Wow!! Hubby had wood fired pizza- I can't recall what flavor. Chris was a terrific waiter, Very attentive and friendly. I wish all waiters were as great as him! The food was almost as good as the service. The burrata appetizer was delicious and the balsamic reduction was just right. The octopus appetizer was great he best part part of the meal and a healthy portion. The chicken Marsala was the weakest part of the meal with a small amount of chicken but the sauce was off. I believe the garlic was burned which left a flavor not desirable in a chicken Marsala. First you have to start with the Crispy Brussels sprouts. I know it's on so many menus, but theirs might just be the best in the valley! The arancini is also a great choice. For salads, we've tried the wedge, which was good. My favorite salad of theirs is the strawberry balsamic. Mixed greens, toasted pecans, humboldt fog goat cheese (a hometown favorite) grapes and strawberries! My favorite pasta is a tough choice. Either the butternut squash filled agnolotti or the pappardelle bolognese. You can sub in gluten free pasta for any of the pasta dishes. Can't go wrong with any of the pizzas or dessert! The restaurant is lovely and has outside seating. Service can be hit or miss, but mostly pleasant. read more

What happened to this restaurant??!! It was the WORST experience we've ever had in a restaurant! I wanted to rate this a 0 but there isn't that option. We've had good meals here in the past, but haven't gone for 2 years. Now we'll never go back again. Six of us ate; only one person had a decent meal. It started with the waiter. One person ordered Perrier. He came back to say they were out of it, but they had Corona. Since when does Perrier make beer??? It took so long for anything to get to our table, and there were only 4 tables full in the entire restaurant including ours. It took several requests to get bread or anything else we asked for. I think we were the waiter's only table. One of our party asked for salad dressing on the side. They got it on the salad. They didn't have linguini with clam sauce, but they COULD serve clams and muscles. My husband's carbonara was swimming in a sauce. A sauce for carbonara??The side meatball (an extra cost) he ordered was the size of and tasted like the ones you get in frozen packages. My salmon smelled awful, tasted worse, and was well done when I had asked for medium rare. There was less than a quarter of a head of lettuce for the dinner sized wedge salad and no dressing. Another person's side of linguini came when she was finished eating. I was extremely embarrassed because I recommended this place. Now my recommendation is DON'T GO!! The manager was nice enough to comp the meals (not the drinks) which we did appreciate. Unfortunately,it didn't change our minds. read more

I didn't get pictures of our appetizers because we were too excited to eat but the meatballs are a MUST, bruschetta was so good (but I would always add more balsamic), and the focaccia was also a must! As a table, we ordered the carbonara, gnocchi with pink sauce (a mix between the red and white), bolognese, rigatoni, and chicken Parmesan.
