Long read but it might save you a headache, money and some precious sleep…read more If you choose to camp here, I'd HIGHLY recommend avoiding the small rig campsites. It took us 45 minutes to get our little 21' travel trailer into the camp spot due to the steep angle and lack of space in front of us. Our front stabilizers are up as high as can go in the front while one side of our back bumper is literally sitting on the ground. We backed our bumper of our camper right into the edge of this mountain while gassing it in 4wd to try and get into this spot. I am now concerned we have damage to the underneath or backside of our camper instead of enjoying the stay, but won't know until we leave. The spots are really close together and tight and there isn't any privacy. Our campsite being on a hill also means we have virtually no area to hang out outside unless we want to sit on the slope facing our truck and have no view of the mountains. This should absolutely not be a spot. It's clearly just about creating as many spots as possible here. I can't believe this spot is close to $100 a night after tax. The kicker is there are empty spots all over, and have been the entire stay- however we were told there were none available and we had to use this spot, their website also shows more availability for the days we are here. There are "no refunds after the initial swipe of the card" otherwise we would have found another campground right away. I fully understand why after staying at this campground, they'd probably lose a lot of money if they offered refunds. The other big issue is it is VERY LOUD and I've been woken up at 5:30am every day and have campers next to me coming back on side by side's, playing loud music and drinking outside until well after 10pm. There's tons of people and feels like a party campground. The "quiet hours" of 10-7 don't mean a thing. I didn't realize this is *THE* campground for off road vehicles because they aren't allowed in the town of Silverton. The highway is right next to the campground and the noise is constant. Because of this, we am cutting ou short and taking the loss of money. Driving around Silverton, I've seen some really beautiful campgrounds with nice, level spots, lots of room and better views for less money. One has an awesome view of the train coming in. I'd do more research if off-roading isn't why you're visiting before selecting this camp ground. Pros would be clean bathrooms, e-bike and other rentals available and close to town, but the town is tiny and every campground is close to town.

Everywhere is well graveled and level and I didn't even have to level the trailer! That's something I seldom experience anywhere even at RV parks unless they have concrete slabs which I don't like. This place is not an expensive but not too much more than other RV parks and this is an absolutely beautiful location, especially at this time of year. The facilities include very and I mean very clean bathrooms and showers and an inexpensive laundry along with inexpensive ice. No fire pits here but you can do rustic or tent camping or full hookups. I seldom pay but I was in the mountains for 3 days and my power ran out! That being said, if you need a good RV park with really good facilities and nice people, this is definitely a place to consider.

The property is conveniently located across the street from the grocery, a few doors down from the hardware store, and a five minute walk to the center of town. The new RV park section is all gravel. Not my favorite, but in an arid climate, perfectly reasonable. A camping carpet helped to make the situation much better. There are two large fields on either side of the new section where you can exercise your pets. You're also close to the river if you want to go wading, or take your dog for a swim. The Durango train runs by the campground, and reverses in the siding next-door. Never got tired of seeing the trains. If you are there for the Fourth of July, the Silverton fireworks are in your living room! I had no issues while I was staying here. The only suggestions I would have would be to offer online booking rather than having to connect via a phone call. While personal interaction is great, when you are on the road and need to know that you have a place to go to, Online booking would be much easier. The other suggestion would be to offer discounts for long-term stays. Their prices are fair, but on the high end and a discount for staying a week or month or longer would be A reasonable thing to do.

We struggled to breathe a lot but found the inclines and the hikes to be pretty easy. The entire hike had always rewarded us with amazing views, and we got two lakes for the price of one. It took us only 20 minutes to island lake from ice lake (go right and cross a stream). There was a constant threat of storms, but we weren't turning around. There were campers at ice lake and island lake. I'm afraid of heights, and I was scared once on the ice lake trail and twice on the island lake trail...nothing too bad though. We saw many wildflowers going to ice lake and many marmots going to island lake. There were places to use the bathroom along the trail, at ice lake (behind boulders), and island lake (boulders). The park and trails are well maintained. Trekking poles were helpful. Finding the trail head from the parking lot was easy. There was plenty of parking at 9:30 am. People parked around the perimeter of the parking lot and the side of the road. There was a restroom in the parking lot. The trail is obvious, although not always marked. There are tons of people that hike it at all hours. Side trails are 2 ft wide. The main trail is 4 ft wide. Tips: bring water, snacks, rain gear, trekking poles, a light. Also, travel light. In conclusion, we handled ice lakes well probably due to having adjusted to the altitude, using oxygen canisters, inhalers, and traveling with light day packs. We weren't that sore afterward either. We were just tired. Also, There are no pages in the trail register. We saw people hiking even around dark though. We are from Texas and we're hot the entire time. The creek crossings weren't bad enough to need water shoes unless it's raining. The water is ice cold. You must do island lake. If you can't camp at South Mineral then stay in Silverton.

It was more like a tiny home or bunk house. But it had electricity, lights and also a space heater to help keep us warm at night. it had 2 bunk beds and then on bigger size bed and a little bit of floor space. We were right next to the river and it was a really lovely view. Prices were fair. And the camp hosts were welcoming and friendly. The bathroom had shower curtains for the doors on the stalls and on the shower. We could not find a water fill station. They do have onsite ice and wood you can purchase for fair prices. It was a beautiful little area just outside of lake city We would definitely stay again if we were back in the area. The water went out one night and we were not able to take a shower that night. The camp host seemed surprised that we didn't have ability to shower in a RV. We were renting a cabin...... We had been climbing 14ers the last few days and just wanted a shower but alas it was not meant to be. Wish they would have put a sign on the door to explain what was going on instead of just locking the bathroom from the inside. We thought someone had just locked themselves in because of the curtain on the shower i went to ask about it and then was told that the water was out. Just put up a little communication about it to inform your guests :) Otherwise wonderful stay.

For reference, we have 45ft Class A & tow a jeep. Nestled in beautiful Lake City, CO lies this quiet and quaint little campground with just 34 spaces, plenty of warm hospitality and beautiful views of the Colorado scenery. The property is clean and well manicured-with a personal touch everywhere you look. Their custom fire rings are the best part! From the minute you drive in you'll feel at home. Scott & Amy go above & beyond to make you feel welcome. They have the cutest general store I've ever come across stocked with ice cream, beverages & snacks, your basic necessities, RV parts. as well as a great selection of brand name gifts and souvenirs all tastefully displayed. They have a reliable wifi network, are big rig friendly, have a small pet area, a 24 hour laundry room, personal trash "service" (no dumpsters) and is just a few short miles from downtown Lake City. All spaces have a fire ring, picnic table, shade trees and plenty of room between you and your neighbor. They also have jeep rentals, sell propane, ice and firewood. I would recommend grocery shopping prior to arriving in Lake City, they only have one general store with limited stock. Everyone there is always very helpful and knowledgeable about the various trails and places to visit in the area. There's plenty of room in the park for any size coach or fifth wheel and room to park a vehicle in front of site. The sites are well maintained and they are pet friendly as long as you clean up after them. The restrooms are very clean and well maintained too. Jeep rental is always a good experience also. They're well maintained and it's a great way to get up in the high country for amazing views. I will definitely be returning here in the future as it is my favorite place to stay!

We stayed at this campground on our visit to Telluride. It is an absolutely stunning campground…read morenestled right in between the San Juan mountains. Lots of trees for shade. If you plan on visiting Telluride as well this location is about as close as you can get without staying in a hotel other than Sunshine campground. Stop by mountain village first since it is closer and take the gondola over to Telluride. Most people staying here are in campers but there are still tent campers too. They've got showers included which was cool because it's not super common for showers to be in campsites. I would definitely camp here again.

Young camp host gave us a LOT of bad information including that we could get a refund. Too bad - that WAS NOT TRUE. Went back to ask what was going on and both camp hosts were gone. One off duty and the one who was suppose to be on duty went off with her boyfriend for the day and left a note. Poor, horrible, terrible management at this site. There are other campground that provide great management and hosts and do not rip off their campers. Hope Rec.gov stops using this management co and gets one who not only knows what their doing but reliable camp hosts.
