Extremely disappointing experience. Despite the name, there is absolutely nothing "sunshine" about Sunshine Dental. My elderly mother was a patient here and is no longer one due to repeated negative experiences with the front desk, specifically the doctor's husband. This was not an isolated incident. My mom complained about his behavior many times over the course of her care, but continued going only because the office was close to her home and convenient given her age. The doctor's husband was consistently rude and unprofessional. On multiple occasions, when another receptionist offered my mom an appointment time that actually worked for her, he interrupted and refused to honor it, insisting on inconvenient times instead. He frequently butted into conversations and seemed determined to escalate situations rather than help. In addition to the poor customer service, his behavior was disrespectful and made us feel targeted and uncomfortable based on our background. His comments and tone came across as dismissive and discriminatory, which only added to the stress of dealing with this office. The overall attitude felt cold, dismissive, and overly focused on money rather than patient care. Empathy was noticeably lacking, which is especially troubling in a practice that serves many elderly patients. The final straw was when he hung up on my mom during a phone call about her appointment, leaving her extremely upset. She became physically ill afterward from the stress. If this office is meant to represent "Sunshine," the experience was not even a dark cloud. It was a mudslide of awfulness. I would not recommend this practice, particularly for seniors or anyone who expects basic respect, cultural sensitivity, and compassion in a healthcare setting. read more

Have not left a negative review before but this place is truly something else, office staff are very rude and had me, the patient, email them information about procedure after care because they "have never heard of that". Scary that as a patient I have to inform the clinic of associated risks. Today when provided information that conflicted with what I was told last I asked to speak to a manager/someone who was capable of helping to which I got "I don't know". I saw Dr Muniyappa for an emergency appointment at a few hours notice. The team was very courteous and helpful in setting things up. Dr Muniyappa' calm and competent manner manner was super reassuring. She diagnosed and then treated my dental abscess very promptly. Her technical skills were fantastic and 24 hrs later I am pretty much back to normal. 10 out of 10 for quality of care and 10/10 also for patient-doctor interactions. Dr Muniyappa's team clearly also works to a very high standard. Highly recommended. If it was not for a 10 hour flight I would move my care instantly to her practice. read more

This front office guy is terrible. I called the office because they the list said they will take any special needs children. Surprisingly, when I mentioned about my son who is on a wheelchair the guy said "NO!" My son doesn't have any behavior issue or anything but they refused to take him. He was extremely rude. I want to thank Dr. Muniyappa and the staff for making my dental experience as comfortable and painless as possible. I have been nervous all my life about going to the dentist, over 60 years. I had some tooth trouble; they were able to schedule me the next morning. I needed a tooth extraction immediately and she and was able to perform the procedure at the time of the visit. I am usually apprehensive about needles, and it was no sweat at all. They went to great lengths to make me comfortable and relaxed without pain. Dr. Muniyappa is one of the most caring people I know. I've worked here for about 2 and half years and will be sadly moving away back to my hometown in Texas in about 2 months. She treats every single patient with kindness. The way she fixes teeth is truly an art form. Dr. Muniyappa is extremely thorough and a person of character. After working with her and letting her work on my teeth I don't trust anyone else with my dental work. I will even be flying back for any future appointments. Mr. Muniyappa the office manger is also a person of character and extremely loyal to patients. His memory is almost close to photographic and he is extremely intelligent. She is always on time and pays attention to every single detail. She is great at communicating to patients and explaining to them exactly what you need so you're never confused on what needs to be done. Dr. Muniyappa cares for the patient and keeps a high standard that the crown must fit correctly. My first crown that was made by the impression was not quite fit so Dr. Muniyappa used a full scan (3D) equipment to make the image for the new crown. The second crown came slightly shy and Dr. Muniyappa was concerned about the tight fit so Dr. Muniyappa ordered a third new crown. Sure enough, the third time was a charm that the crown fitted correctly. Dr. Muniyappa and staffs are very courteous and helpful as well. For my insurance, the charge is very fair and reasonable. I've been going to this dentist office for 5 years and have had my teeth cleaned by a number of different dentists, all of whom have been great. Dr. Muniyappa was recommended to me by a coworker at my last place of employment after I had the worst experience picking a random dentist (why are most dentists like used car salesmen?). The first guy wanted to do over $1000 worth of work on my teeth, which had been well taken care of by a great dentist up in the Bay Area prior to that point. I walked out without getting the cleaning I came in for and never went back. Dr. Muniyappa on the other hand did not say a word about any of the "issues" the other guy mentioned, calmly cleaned my teeth and even congratulated me on taking care of my teeth. I do have a ton of cavities due to laziness as a kid and a love of sweets, but have since learned to take care of my teeth well (constant fillings will motivate you). Since my fillings were not old, I tended to trust her judgement over the moron who wanted to do $1000 of cavity, gum and other work. NO mention was made of any sort of gum disease by Dr. Muniyappa! In any case, I've always been happy with the people at the office and the cleanings. Happy enough that I kept them even when I moved. I did have an incident when I had to replace a filling about a year ago. My tooth ached so much, I thought something was seriously wrong. This was a tooth that had such a large cavity, it was starting to crack. Dr. Muniyappa took another look at the tooth for no extra charge and reassured me that the filling was fine and the tooth had not cracked any further. The pain went away after a few days. I highly recommend this dental office. They are always accommodating. It's easy to get an appointment and I trust the dentists here. They will not try and sell you treatments you don't need. read more

I've been going to Sunshine Dental for well over a decade, getting closer to two decades by now. I'll not disagree with the difficult front office experiences others have described. However, I've found patience and gentle persistence always yield good results. This review is about my teeth, and the great care Dr. Muniyappa has provided. I've had too many dentists over the past 60 years, and she's far and away the best. There is simply no other dentist I want anywhere near my mouth! When I first arrived all those years ago, I had a mouth full of aging fillings, crowns, and an onlay that kept popping out. Much of the accumulated damage was due to bad orthodonture as a kid, a series of over-worked military dentists while in the Navy, and spotty care while in college. My teeth were a real mess, but it can't all be blamed on the care I had received: Delicate teeth run in half of my family tree - the other half have perfect teeth. I suspect I may have had more work done than most of Dr. Muniyappa's other patients. The onlay and ALL of my amalgam fillings were replaced with ceramic during my first year with her, and NONE of them has failed since, despite ceramics supposedly being less durable than amalgam. Those great results are due more to craftsmanship than technology. Dr. Muniyappa knows all the technology and techniques, yet approaches her work more as an artist or craftsman. She accepts nothing less than perfection from herself, and will work resolutely for it. The onlay replacement was by far the single most challenging piece of work she's done. It really should have been replaced with a crown, but we both decided to try to save the tooth. This required a custom-cast replacement onlay that was more complex than is typically done with ceramics. The first one was so delicate it broke during handling. The second one went in OK, but wasn't as good a fit as she desired. Most dentists would have been fine with using a little extra adhesive, but not Dr. Muniyappa. The third one was ideal, and has lasted to this day. Still no crown! I'll say it again: Despite my lousy teeth, NONE of Dr. Muniyappa's work has needed patching or replacement. The only rework I've needed (IIRC) was due to a jaw-first fall. Had that filling been amalgam, I'm certain the tooth would have broken instead of the filling. Ceramics FTW! Good dentistry is about far more than good repairs: Good dentistry is first and foremost about proper preventative care and detailed oral health guidance. Any dentist's office can do good X-Rays and cleanings. Detailed advice over many years is less common: While my weak teeth are a constant topic of discussion, as I've aged she's focused more on my slowly receding gums. Dr. Muniyappa really hates receding gums, and I've been following her advice to minimize it. The greatest dismay Dr. Muniyappa has ever directed toward me concerned a prolonged absence from her care due to my loss of dental coverage during difficult financial times. I chose to do the best I could on my own, to avoid the expense of paying cash for X-Rays and cleanings. Fortunately, I did little damage. But Dr. Muniyappa was nearly in tears, both with anger and sympathy. She was upset I had simply disappeared, rather than sharing my situation. She told me she would do anything for my dental health, and made me promise to keep her in the loop going forward. When it comes to my teeth, Dr. Muniyappa and I are partners in every way. She is never bothered by my endless questions, actively welcoming them instead. Yes, I'm certain I've delayed her busy schedule now and then. She truly consults with me, doing far more than presenting a simple list of options and prices. While the occasional front office issue is regrettable, such things are truly trivial compared to the awesome state of my teeth. I've been going to Sunshine dental for close a year now and while it's a small office, the staff has generally been really great. The front desk can sometimes be a little frustrating- it seems that they are running a pretty old system that take a while to check insurance, but if you stick with it patiently, you'll be in good shape! Out of all of my services, I'm happiest with the internal bleaching that they did. Because of an accident several years ago, I had nerve damage which my veneer couldn't cover- the internal bleaching process was a perfect fix and pretty reasonably priced! read more

I don't recommend this place at all. I normally don't write reviews but I have to do this time. The dentist made dentures for my mom. At lest 20 times we went to fix it but she couldn't and eventually she said there is nothing I can do about it use some kind of glue. I don't want to write a bad review but I had to for this dental office. Be careful with this dentist because she might drill & work on your completely healthy teeth. The reason for my visit to this office was the closest from my home that carries my new dental insurance. The office looked busy, waiting area is small and cramped, overall the office appears below average for dental office and the staffs were okay. From their treatment recommendation was 2 fillings possibly 3 fillings for my daughter's cavity after x-ray and cleaning. I was little surprised because she had very healthy teeth with no problem when she had the last visit 6 month ago to the other dentist. Also, I was puzzled why this dentist gave not exact diagnosis of how many cavities she has and how many of her teeth need fillings, two or maybe three? They put next appointment about a month later from initial visit and a man from the office called few days prior to the appointment date and cancelled the appointment since the dentist will be on vacation for a month. I was upset and I had to find another dentist from my insurance provider since I did not wait another month for my daughter's treatment. But this turned out to be very fortunate for us. This new dental office my insurance assigned to me is very good compare to Sunshine. The office is clean and receptionists are very nice and waiting area is very spacious and comfortable. But the most shocking is that this new dentist diagnosed my daughter has no cavity and no need for any fillings! I could not believe what I heard and I even showed to the dentist the treatment plan and estimate I got from Sunshine Dental Office. He said he can drill and fill them if I want to but no need to! I can not imagine a dentist drill completely healthy tooth. why? read more

Worst dental office ever. They called me two days prior to my appointment and wanted to postpone for over thirty days because they have to go on a month long summer vacation. I said I'd call back to make the next appointment and when I did, they said that I was no longer on their list of patients. And they blamed it to my insurance company..that I 'm not covered with the insurance. I called the insurance company and they said that it is not so, that Sunshine Dental had dropped us. Why? What kind of people does this to their patients, clients, or customers? We all work hard to find and keep that one extra person for a little more income. Nobody likes going to the dentist so why do they make it even worse?? 1) extremely hard to get an appointment at a time that works for you, they don't try. 2) They don't even know how to use their software... so you wait 3) As professional it took 3 persons and a good 15 min to realize that I'm missing teeth (you'll admit that's a good one!!) 4) Why do they put you upside down??? so uncomfortable to have the blood rushing to your head. 5) They didn't do the clean up because according to them, it has to be a different appointment (read the end) 6) They charged me 11$ copay (read they end) 7) My wife went the next day, repeat step 1 to 6) 8) we just called another dentist through the same insurance, turns out they lied on 5 and 6. I had the right side of my mouth worked on today (deep cleaning) and they did a wonderful job and were very kind and patient with me! I will do the other half of my mouth next week. For 13 years, my husband & I are have been pleased with the quality work of Dr. Muniyappa. I broke my front tooth at the start of our tour in France, and Dr. Muniyappa successfully saved it and prepped it for a crown. One can imagine the agony I went through with the overseas mishap. I believe that only this dentist could have saved it, with such expertise and precision! It is hard to find an excellent dentist like her. She is consistently professional, honest, and meticulous. This place is great. They really take care of you. I've been going here for the last maybe 4 years, and I'm continually impressed with the honesty of the lady dentist's appraisal of what I need. By the way, this followed some pretty awful treatment by another practice elsewhere, and the fact fact that I have 'English' teeth (meaning awfully maintained) and a dread of Dentists going back to my childhood.. Anyhow, over the years, Mrs Muniyappa (?spelling) has worked with my insurance company to get the crowns and various treatments I need, worked with me to overcome my phobia of dentists, and most importantly has stated her limitations (removing lower wisdom teeth, etc.) and has been generally wonderful. All the staff there are great (if a little slow, sometimes) and the only nit I have with the place is that the billing/insurance interface is a bit wonky, resulting in me having to pay some unexpected bills - not horrible, though, but be careful. That said, it's the best dental office I've been to in my long life. read more

Hi, I went to check if they can remove my wisdom teeth. I had my X-Ray with me. I had an appointment at 4pm, I was checked in by 4:10 (filled all the forms). I waited for 1hr 46 min (I have habit of timing things). Doc spent 3 min to tell she can't do and I'll need oral surgeon. Clinic is nice. Don't overbook yourself that people have to wait for 2 hrs despite an appointment. Sorry doesn't give back time. read more

This was a first time visit and there was no cleaning involved. Apparently for first time patients, they only do X-rays. I was very unimpressed with this practice. I was under the impression that you receive a cleaning when you make a dentist appointment. I also have full dental insurance. After the X-rays were taken, I called in to have the X-rays sent to me. I was told by the receptionist, that their computers crashed and no information was saved. Not only did she not have an answer for me, she said she doesn't know when the problem will be fixed, or when or IF they will ever get the x-rays back on the computer. I would not recommend anyone going into this office, as they are unprofessional and lack decent service. On the bright side, I will say the billing process was easy. They billed my dental insurance directly for the x-rays, but nothing else was performed. I think the problem was more w/ their receptionist than the actual dentist. read more

I asked the receptionist why my appointment is late and she said "emergency" people get priority. She offered to do 8:30 am next time but God knows how long I'm going wait. I normally don't post anything in Yelp but I am so upset with their service, they don't deserve any star!! I was in serious pain and request to be seen as an emergency, the dentist lied to me and told me my insurance is not active so I called my insurance company to find out what is going on. The insurance company told me "not only they can see you immediately but we will faxed over the a eligibility letter so you can be seen." After 10 min I called them back, they were rude and obnoxious said "I'm too busy to see you." I was in tears and begged them " could you please see me, I'm in so much pain, I haven slept and ate for 3 days." The dentist said "no." Then they hang up on me!!! I can't speak to the quality of the dentistry here. I called ahead to schedule an appointment and gave the receptionist my insurance information (including my social security number) to confirm that they accepted my coverage at this office. After being told that my insurance was accepted, I showed up to my appointment today only to be told that my insurance is NOT, in fact, accepted and that I would have to pay out of pocket for services. Apparently, they called me about this, but I have no record of that. I encouraged the receptionist to make direct contact with future patients if she finds some insurance issue. If you are a new patient, call ahead the day before or day of to be sure that they haven't changed their minds about your insurance. It will save you the trouble and inconvenience of missing work for nothing, as I did. read more

Dr. Muniyappa at Sunshine Dental Office is a caring patient dentist. She definitely spends quality time with each patient and caters to the individual needs of each. Both myself and my husband are patients now and we both recommend her as your "go to" dentist. She makes sure you are comfortable and is very detailed in her cleanings. She helped me to relax and numbed me all up for my deep cleaning that I was very anxious about. She is very knowledgable in both cosmetic and regular dental needs. They offer teeth whitening here as well with state of the art equipment. I plan on doing this next as they are reasonably priced. 5 stars. read more

All of us (family of 4) go to Dr. Muniyappa for the past 10 years or so. She is one of the most honest and capable dentists we have seeb (we've been to other general as well pediatric dentists in the past). She has never recommended extra treatments than necessary and she has never forced us to get anything done (this is very important for me, I hate to be forced to get something done unless absolutely required). And, she spends good amount of time on each of us. I have been through do, re-do, re-re-dos with few other dentists (in San Diego as well Chatham in New Jersey) for the same fillings/crown - this has never happened so far with Dr. Muniyappa. Personally, I book early morning appointments before going to work and have never had to wait for 15-20 mins to be attended to. If you look for a dentist who cares for patients, honest and skilled, I'd highly recommend Dr. Muniyappa. read more

A job well done! I recently went there to have some chipped bonding on a front tooth fixed.I chipped my front teeth as a child and have had bondings done on them a couple of times in the past. Dr. Muniyappa replaced both of the old bondings because they were discolored.My smile is the best it has been for as long as I can remember. The good part was that I did not need to get a shot because the teeth did not have to be drilled much and my insurance picked up 80% of the fee. I would definitely recommend Sunshine Dental.
