Dr. Kambiz Arjmand and his amazing team were able to fit me in right away--with zero wait time! From the moment I sat in the chair, I felt completely taken care of. A quick but thorough exam led to immediate treatment, and the entire process--from numbing to finishing the filling--took just 40 minutes. Not only was it completely painless, but every detail was handled with total care and professionalism. They went above and beyond to ensure my comfort: dark glasses to block the light, a supportive pillow behind my neck--every small touch made a big difference. And when it came to skill, Dr. Arjmand was incredible. He adjusted the filling to the perfect height with such precision--I was genuinely amazed at how quick and smooth the whole procedure was. To top it off, I don't have dental insurance, and this was by far the most affordable dental care I've ever received. I LOVE Sunshine Dentistry. Seriously, after almost 7 years going there, I can vouch for the high quality care and work of Dr. Arjamand and his team. It's a true family-owned business that does what's best for their patients. They know my name, they always greet me with kindness, and they strive for preventative care to keep you healthy long-term. I have gotten fillings there, routine check-ups, even a night guard. In fact, I kept having jaw pain from an old night guard another Dr made me, turns out it was way to thick. Dr Arjamand made me a thin clear one, my jaw pain went away immediately. Life changing!! They have been very safe with COVID as well, making me take a health survey, wait in my car until ready (but they saw me immediately), extra cleaning the office, double masks on the dental hygienists. I am always happy to go there because I know I'll be treated well. Now my husband goes there too and is very happy. My insurance changed for a year and I couldn't go to Sunshine, it was the worst, went to another clinic where no one really cared, treated me like a number. As soon as I could I switched right back. I have to admit I haven't been to the dentist in a long time. I have always taken good care of my teeth but neglected my dental visits. Only because I've had some pretty bad ones and was hoping to finally get a good one. Well I finally found sunshine Thank you to a friend that recommended them to my wife. Just had 4 fillings done, I was in and out in 40 mins with minimal discomfort... WHAT?! Thats unheard of in all of my dental experiences. Amazing work and overall care by Dr. A and his entire extremely sweet staff! Two of these fillings were redos from old poor work done by Community Health Group county dentists in 2019. I was terrified to go through the pain I dealt with back then again. Dr. A was reassuring the entire time and it was obvious he spent extra time to be gentle and make sure all my fillings were perfect. Never going to anyone else! read more

This is only my second visit, first was exam and xrays (no cleaning, I suppose exam and xrays really means just that). When I walked in, they saw my bicycle helmet and asked if I locked my bike because, if not, they had a lock I could use! And they asked if I'd like water-cold or room temperature! Yeah....almost spa like, but a dentist! Went for my INITIAL appointment today. After the exam Dr. Ardjmand gave me the "proposed treatment plan" (only ONE option) which was to have a deep cleaning that was NOT covered by insurance and would cost me $470 OUT OF POCKET. I called my insurance and they confirmed that the deep cleaning was covered. Great first impression. Go somewhere else that's not shady and trying to rip you off. read more

This is the second time I have gone to Sunshine Dentistry and everyone that works there is soooo nice and remember the things about you that makes you feel like there was a genuine connection! They have preapproved with my insurance before EVERY treatment. I have had very bad experiences with dentists not preapproving through my insurance in the past and Sunshine Dentistry is the opposite. I went the other day to get a regular cleaning and I told the dentist about a sharp spot on a tooth he immediately polished & fixed it no charge. GREAT people & service!! I use to go to Orange Dental but it was outdated technology wise so I signed up with my insurance for Sunshine Dentistry. I really must say I am happy. The office uses all new technology along with text messaging reminders. I am able to fill out questionnaires through text message. The staff are great. You will even receive a Starbucks gift card if they run 15 minutes late at which it only happen once. Parking is provided. Come check them out. read more

I should also mention that Dr. Ardjmand is very skilled in administering the anesthesia injections. Usually, the first pinch is the one that one can feel, but not with Dr. Ardjmand. He puts a topical anesthetic first, and then he massages the gum while administering the first dose, and he probably knows the best angle or something. Long story short, last week I had a (porcelain fused to metal) bridge removed that I had for about 10 years, so it was quite an undertaking, but throughout the whole process I did not feel any pain or even discomfort. I got the new bridge delivered today and it fits perfectly, and looks great, and again, I felt no pain throughout the procedure. I am very grateful to Dr. Ardjmand and the Sunshine Dentistry for not only keeping me comfortable but delivering great results. read more

Like other reviews have mentioned, Sunshine also tried to scam me into getting additional work done that I did not need. I am not trying to brag, but I have never had a cavity or filling in my 30 years on Earth. I went to this dental office because it was close to where I live. On my first visit I got the x-rays done and Dr. Arjamand looked at my teeth and did not see any problems. I went back a few months after for a cleaning. He informed me I would need a filling. I thought it was strange since I had no pain and never had a filling before. I accepted his recommendation and when I went to the front desk to schedule my appointment to get the filling done, they said I needed two fillings. This is when the first red flag went off. I told them the doctor said I only needed one, and the receptionist said, "no, that's inaccurate, you actually need two." I was like, whatever, okay. The second red flag went off when they told me my insurance does not cover fillings. I quickly pulled up my dental insurance plan on my phone, and sure enough, they cover the full payment of up to two fillings per year. Since I was shocked to learn I needed two fillings, I decided to go to my old family dentist (who I know I can trust). He told me I have nothing wrong with my teeth and I don't need any fillings. If you are a current patient at Sunshine, I would recommend getting a second opinion before you agree to any procedures outside of x-rays and cleanings. If you are looking for an honest dentist in San Diego, this is not the place. Listen to the other Yelpers that encountered the same thing I did. read more

Gotta start off this review by saying that I have ALWAYS hated the dentist. Hated everything about going and hated that they seem to be the only profession where YOU are the paying customer and they feel like they can make you feel like crap for being not good enough (e.g. not flossing 37 times a day or getting a cavity during a pandemic). That being said - I just happened to transfer over to this dentist a couple years back due to insurance changes/proximity to home and I LOVE them. They are so welcoming and kind, don't judge you for having imperfect teeth or teeth habits (but of course, will suggest better lifestyle choices), and they make sure your experience there is pleasant each time. I once had an appointment on a cold day and I was in a dress. What did they do? Offer me a blanket. I recently came in with a back injury and they put me in the closest room ASAP and brought me a pillow for my back. Always doing the little things that add up, which makes me highly encourage you to check em out if you too have always hated the dentist (and even if you have been okay with dentists of the past, you should also give them a whirl). read more

My experience was incredibly disappointing. Prior to my appointment we talked on the phone. We booked one hour during my work lunch and I specified that I would have to leave at a certain time. They assured me it would be sufficient. I also expressed my concern with fixing my tooth as soon as possible because my insurance would expire within the week. They assured me that it would be handled the same day. I went to the office and I waited for 45 min of the 1 hr I had available in the waiting room for them to call my insurance to figure out my benefits while they had been given this information a week prior. When I was finally called in and X-Rayed, I was told that they wouldn't be able to fix it today neither this week because of their tight schedule. That left me looking for a doctor within 4 days before my insurance's expiration date. That was extremely unprofessional on their part. I called western dental on 30th and University and they fixed my tooth the next day. Think twice before you try Sunshine dentistry. read more

DON'T GO HERE!!!!! This guy is soooooooooo sleazy and shady! I filed a grievance with my insurance company. Delta Dental HMO. They suck too, btw. I've had a fair amount of work done on my teeth (thanks mom, for soft enamel), so I a) know my way around a dentist's office and b) can spot a fraud quack dentist a mile away. After poking around in my mouth for LESS than 5 minutes... he grandly pronounces "You need an aggressive periodontal disease treatment. I am the only dentist is San Diego who is prescribing this particular $1000 treatment that you have to use gel and trays for." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!!? You don't even have the business sense to earn my trust over a few visits before laying a whopper of a line like that on me?! Dude. If you're in medicine to get rich quick, that's fine. But hope you don't mind when educated, wary consumers (LIKE ME!) come on consumer review sites (LIKE THIS) to lambast you to help others from getting taken to the cleaners!!!! Because of these f*ckers, I am 1) Out of $150 from missing a day of work 2) STILL needing to bring my child to the dentist even though that's why I went there I am so pissed at this place. I was assigned to this office by my dental insurance. Good reviews on Yelp, so I kept them as my office. I called to make an appointment for my 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. They knew it was for her! My car was in the shop being fixed. To get there, I had to bundle her up on the 7 bus and then walk a zillion miles from the busstop. I filled out 2 pages of all kinds of personal info (which, BTW, Sunshine Dentistry, if mine, my BF's, or my daughters ID is stolen, I'm blaming you). We went into the office where the dentist looked at her teeth and told me they look very nice. THEN the screwed up WTF part. She tells me they can't see her there because they don't have the correct x-ray equipment for her little mouth. The WHY did you even make the appointment in the first place if you knew you weren't equipped for her?? WHY did you let me fill out miles of paperwork?? Only for the receptionist to shrug with vacant eyes as I struggled to keep my temper. I was hoping I was on an episode of Punk'd. Before I came to this dentist I had a terrible experience with the Hillcrest Family Dental where they tried to make me buy "anti-biotic treatment" for my gums for $900, not covered by insurance of course. So, I was already very suspicious of all dentists, including this one. They day of the appointment I was treated well, everyone was friendly and a full review of my teeth was made with pictures and digital xrays. Dr. Ardmand pointed out that I had some cavities and my 2 previous metal fillings needed replacing as they were old and degrading. I always wanted to remove the metal my teeth and replace it with white resin. My insurance covered some and I ended up paying $355 dollars for about 5 cavities white resin fillings. That is acceptable to me. Now, the thing I did not like at all from my experience at Sunshine Dentistry is that either they overbooked patients the day I was getting my fillings or I just was in the middle of a hectic day for them. I was halfway through the drilling of my teeth, mouth all numb, when the doctor leaves for 20-30 minutes to see other patients that had arrived. Half out later he comes back and continues drilling my teeth and filling cavities. Sure, he apologized for leaving me but it's still not cool to prolong someones agony like this. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!! I agree with Steven, Jennifer, et al, who advise: DO NOT GO HERE! I could tell within 5 minutes that this guy is a sleazy shyster. As echoed by other accounts here, he gave me a VERY quick exam, ticked off a long list of expensive procedures that "needed" to be done and I was hurried along. Subsequent visits to other dentists revealed that my teeth were as bad as Dr Ardjmand advised, that those procedures were not warranted and less expensive and extensive treatment/therapies worked perfectly well. Amazing, amazing office!!! Don't even know how to start this review but I'm actually impressed for the great customer service and with my moms dental experience as well. From the moment you walk in the staff greats you with a smile. Blanca at the front help us out with out paperwork and insurance. She was extremely helpful. Dr. Ardjamand is a top notch doctor. I took my mother for her dental consultation. (She is extremely anxious and doesn't go to the dentist because she has had horrible experiences.) I must says that Dr. Ardjamand did an amazing job at the consultation. He took his time to explain us in detail what it needed to be done. He ensured that my mom felt comfortable and at ease. His dental assistants are kind and friendly Shellie and Cheryl. She did en up getting lots of dental work which required a few visits. However, she never mentioned any discomfort. Dr. Ardjamand is extremely caring and gentle. He has the most up to date technology which made it really easy for us to see and understand the procedures. After, all crowns were placed and cleaning was done. His wonderful staff followed up with us to make sure that my mother felt great. They really make you feel as part of their family. Dr. Ardjmand was awesome. Very gentle and he's got some high tech toys including digital x-rays with instant pix right there for you to see and a camera that takes shots of your teeth on both sides so you can see for yourself on the LCD monitor if there's any work that needs to be done (i know i won't say the "C" word) Friendly staff, the assistant was good, they also have 0% monthly financing if needed. I have been going to Sunshine Dentistry for over a year now and I love it. Blanca and the rest of the staff are so friendly and courteous. I don't have the best insurance in the world, but they work with you. Since I work for a living, they're very accommodating and easily accessible to public transit, for bus routes 2 & 6 and adjacent bus routes 1 & 15. Obviously, no one is excited about going to the dentist; especially if you're in the market for a new one. And again if you have to drive to the lovely street of El Cajon... But! Once you walk inside, you are greeted with a smiling face and staff that are very capable at their tasks. From receptionist to assistant to doctor, all are friendly, efficient and good. The waiting area is comfortable, with new magazines for viewing (though I haven't had to wait more than 10"). I was seriously dreading my morning visit to fill 6 cavities (hey! it's not me, we have bad teeth genetics!!), but the entire visit was about an hour long, I didn't feel a thing, and now I'm cavity free! Caveat - my husband did have a long wait at 1 visit, due to an emergency tooth something-or-other, so they offered him a Free ZOOM whitening; now That's customer service! What a refreshing change! I will definitely make a habit of my regular six-month appointments now that it's actually an enjoyable experience. I had interactions with several people at this office, including the front desk, x-ray tech, and hygienist. True to the name, all of them had a 'sunny' disposition and were very kind. Dr. Ardjmand is a genuinely nice guy. He took the time to review my (very thorough) x-rays and explain everything in detail to me. He even took the time to part of the cleaning on his own. He has skilled hands; the cleaning was thorough but still the gentlest I've ever had! Unlike many other dentist offices, this place isn't in the business of gouging you. Though I have insurance, they billed the insurance for very "reasonable and customary" charges. You'd be surprised how many dentists artificially inflate their charges to squeeze every penny out of the insurance company. The office staff was very accommodating with my busy schedule. I finally made it in for a routine cleaning. I wish they did the cleaning and examination at the same visit because I don't live close & their procedure is to first visit just examine then second visit will be the cleaning & any necessary dental work needed. Turns out I needed a few fillings, the Doctor was great about explaining everything to me and showing me on the X-Ray. The assistants both times were friendly, educational, and respectful of my time. ZERO STARS. I previously posted a review, but have had togo in and revise my rating of Sunshine Dental. Dr. Ardjmand referred me to LaJolla Dental Group specialists for a root canal and to repair four broken teeth. When Ava from La Jolla Dental group phoned me, it turns out they were only going to duplicate the root canal I already had done, which FIVE DENTISTS IN THESE INSURANCE PLANS have neglected to fill. This led to my tooth becoming abcessed and total hearing loss and perforation of my left ear drum. The situation is nearly identical to the medical care provided by the VA in Phoenix, where people were dieing because of it taking a year toget appointments. I was diagnosed with skin cancer. I have a SPECIALISTS' referral for MOHS treatment, but the family practice guy chooses to ignore the medical professionals' report. These doctors and dentists are deliberately playing games with my health. The receptionist left me voice mail messages saying she is not going to let the doctor provide me medical care because I am Jewish. I am taking this to Federal Court. read more

Update! I came back to get a cavity fixed plus switch out my ugly amalgam fillings for pretty pearly whites. In total, I had 6 teeth drilled on (yikes!). I was scared, but I brought plenty of things to distract me, including my noise-canceling headphones (I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone that doesn't enjoy the sound of the drilling). This office is absolutely wonderful! I would highly recommend them. I had to change my appointment a few times due to meetings being moved around. They were always very accommodating and very nice each time I called (once the morning of my actual appointment). When I arrived, the receptionists were talkative and friendly and offered me water while I waited. The initial appointment was rather quick- the doctor only took X-rays and examined my mouth. He then recommended a course of treatment for cavities and such. The second appointment was for my cleaning. Once again- they were very nice when I arrived and I was actually taken back a few minutes early. (BONUS!) I waited a short amount of time and the dentist himself came in and cleaned my teeth. A dental hygienist finished up by polishing. Both were nice and talkative (as talkative as one can be while in a dentist's chair). I was in and out within about 30 minutes with a goody bag (containing toothpaste, floss, a toothbrush and mini-toothpaste). I will continue going here as long as I live in San Diego and would recommend it to anyone. From the outside, it does look a little iffy (as some of the other recommenders mention) but the inside is nice, clean, and welcoming. Finally getting around to my update - yikes, sorry for the delay. I have to admit, I am disappointed with the negative reviews people have posted on Yelp about Sunshine Dentistry. I really can't imagine folks having such a bad experience when mine was so great. So I went back for a cleaning and replacement of an old filling. The hygenist was super nice. She and Dr. Ardjmand made sure I was comfortable with everything that was going on. He did refer me to an endodontist because I have a tooth that may need a root canal.
