Started the New Year off on the right foot (:D) with a visit to Sunshine Foot Spa. I had never been before, but my sister had, and she suggested we both go for the 60-minute Combo treatment, which includes foot, scalp, and body massage. There are a handful of massage tables all in a row in a cozy, dim, communal room. You keep your clothes on, other than your shoes/socks, throughout the treatment. It might also be a good idea to wear looser clothing and pants that easily roll up past the knee. My sister said they used to have you relocate to one of the private massage rooms for the body massage, but it seems they changed the model and you just do the whole service clothed in the communal room - at least, this was the case for the 60-minute Combo treatment. Or maybe it was just done this way because we were the only clients in the whole spa at the time. My massage was pretty much as relaxing as any I've had in the area, and with all of our health insurance co-pays going up this year, it's probably a better self-care proposition than a session of therapy. ;) The cost was $50 for the 60-minute Combo treatment, plus $2 card processing fee and tip. Do note there may be a language barrier, in case that is a concern of yours. I didn't find this to be a problem. read more

I was looking forward to my appointment, but unfortunately, I must write this review to share a deeply uncomfortable and unprofessional experience. There are a few things that i need to bring up. 1.) Disregard of Specific Request for Female Masseuse Despite calling ahead and confirming my request for a female masseuse upon checking in, I was still assigned a male masseur (even after i stated multiple times i requested a female, and there was one on the premises) This failure to honor a specific, pre-arranged request is unacceptable, especially given the sensitive nature of the service. 2.) Issues with Professional Boundaries and Physical Contact My comfort and personal boundaries were significantly violated during the massage. While the massage itself was merely "okay," I was unable to relax due to the masseur's inappropriate physical contact. For the majority of the back massage, the masseur consistently had his hand positioned on the side of my breast/chest area. Depending on which side of my back he was working on, he would switch hands, and the contact felt highly inappropriate as he was practically cupping my breast. I see no scenario where a back massage requires someone to place their hand on the front of my body, especially not on my breast. Throughout the massage, he repeatedly pulled my underwear up and down to the point where I was fully exposed on the table. While working on my legs, his hands moved so far up my inner thigh that it became uncomfortably close to my groin area, forcing me to physically adjust and move away. I have been to multiple massage therapists and have never had an experience like this. I wish i had spoken up for myself but the fact that i was even in the position where i needed to/should have is not okay. It is the absolute bare minimum for a guest to feel secure and not have to verbally stop a professional from touching them inappropriately. I left the session feeling violated and deeply uncomfortable, not relaxed. I was really hoping for a positive experience here. I am writing this to ensure other women are aware of the potential for this kind of experience. I strongly urge the management of Sunshine Foot Spa to strictly honor requests for a specific gender of masseuse and retrain staff on professional draping techniques and appropriate boundaries. If you are a woman who values professional boundaries and explicit consent regarding physical touch, I would strongly suggest you avoid this establishment. Such a wonderful hidden spot right next to a diner. This no frills spa had just what I needed after standing on my feet for two days on hard concrete for apple fest in Lincoln Square. I realized I didn't want a pedicure because it's not the season to care about what my toes look like, instead it's a matter of getting really what I wanted which was a really good deep massage for my aching feet. It was stressed by a family member to get a reflexology foot massage, and that is what they have. I called on the day I thought I wanted to go get a massage and they were able to fit me in at 1 o'clock. parking is easy in the parking lot and I walked right in and the gentleman at the counter greeted me, asked my name and stepped to the back room. He then came back and asked me to follow him into the large, dark open room filled with multiple beds. He asked me to sit in one, remove my shoes and socks and stepped away only to return with a round tub with a clear plastic bag filled with hot water for me to soak my feet for two minutes. He asked me to lay down when he left, a female came out and placed a towel over my face. And it was nice feeling "blocked out" from the room and I noticed quite calming music playing. It wasn't until the end of my foot massage that I learned the name of the woman who had rubbed my feet and legs and gave me the most wonderful massage for a full hour, Eva. The only odd thing from my experience and truly just odd was that I heard a man being led through the room followed by a little bit of conversation about his massage and sometimes hearing a small oh that feels good. Other than that I will definitely come back and recommend anybody who needs a foot massage to go to this location. Most likely I will bring my husband so together so he can get a back massage while I get a foot massage and we can go and eat lunch or brunch right next-door afterwards. This a little goldmine unknown to most people. It is tucked away in a strip mall on Northwest Hwy in Park Ridge. For a$40 foot and body massage, I got the best massage of my lifetime. They start you lying flat with your feet soaking in hot water and begin massaging your neck and face. They do an amazing job on your arms, hands, then take the water away and do a 15 minute reflexology foot massage on your feet. I have never felt so good. Then they massage your legs and work up to your back and head. It is a very tight ship run by a guy named Kevin and he has been there for at least 10 years. It is spotless and all the linens are fresh and clean. I usually give a $10 tip which is a little over 20% but it is so worth it. They are open most of the time. When you are finished, there is not an ounce of stress left in your body. They really know what they are doing and are very versed in all of the muscles and trigger points in your body. Kevin is the only one that speaks english and he can translate whatever to the massage therapist, but they all know harder or softer so that's about all you need to know. My husband and I both had a day off from work, and our child was in school, so after lunch, we decided to go here. They had a small waiting area where two ladies, with limited English, greeted us. The menu of services with prices are listed on their wall, so you just pick what you want. My husband and I both chose the 1 hour combo of 30 min feet and 30min body. We were led into a room with about 7 beds. They had us hang our belongings, take off our shoes, roll up our pants, and lay down with our knees bent with our feet dipped in a tub of water. For some reason, I find this position a bit uncomfortable on my lower back; next time, I might ask for a lumbar pillow. It started with a face massage and then a very relaxing foot and calf massage. Then, after taking the tub away, my lady grabbed my shoes and other stuff off of the hanger and motioned me to follow her into a private room. There, I took off my shirt and bra and laid face down on the table. My husband said he went down to his boxers, but I kept my pants on. Little did I know I should of taken my pants off, too, cause this woman pulled it down over my butt to ensure my gluteus maximus received just as much attention as the rest of my posterior muscles! Oh my goodness! The way she worked on my back and butt with her forearms felt sooooooo good. The pressure was perfect. After being in massage heaven for a while, she left and came back with hot stones. She massaged me with those bad boys for a bit, of which the warmness felt good against my skin. I left the place feeling great. She gave me a punch card, told me, and wrote down her name as "Linda" and I paid her cash. $50 plus tip for an hour of bliss? Yes, thank you. Afterward I smelled like smoke, had lotion in my hair, and did not feel relaxed. My friend and I texted for our foot massage reservations. When we arrived at Sunshine Foot Spa, there were three people there. None of them spoke English. We chose our service by pointing at the menu. My friend and I both chose the combo (foot and body massage). Both of our masseurs smelled like cigarettes. I coughed during the massage from the smell and the odor stayed with me the rest of the afternoon. I was not expecting the face and scalp massage. Had I known beforehand I would have declined. I left the spa with lotion/oil in my hair by the nape of my neck. I did not expect to have to wash my hair after this visit. I've been to other foot spas and this is the first place to ask us to disrobe from the waist up. "Shirt off," they repeatedly told us. This was for the body massage while on our stomachs. We both declined. My previous experience with another foot spa place allowed the massage over my clothes. The masseur placed a large towel over my clothes and massaged my back through it. The foot massage was just okay. I would not recommend this place at all. I should have walked out when I used the bathroom and the pain above the sink was peeling, revealing several layers of old paint. read more

The massage was good but not sure that staff pay attention. I got paired with a guy who was really rude in his tone and abrasive. Not sure how he didn't notice I am pregnant but he got annoyed when I told him I couldn't lay on my stomach because I am pregnant. I'm pretty far along in my pregnancy so now sure how my stomach showing or my waddling didn't give him a hint. He seemed to be frustrated about having to "improvise" his massage. I almost didn't even want to leave him a tip. Be aware that walk ins are not welcome! I was told it "was okay" to walk in but then continued to be informed that appointments are better because they are so busy. I'm looking for a new reflexology place in the northwest suburbs now that I moved but this is the 3rd not so great experience I have with these spas in the suburbs. My friend and I took a chance on this place and it hit hard. It was a rainy Sunday (open 7 days a week btdubs), and we thought it would be a good idea to indulge in some self care! As you might imagine, the staff speaks broken English so if you have specific needs, you may have a hard time articulating that to them. The prices are a steal for the kind of service we received. I left completely relaxed, half asleep, and feeling like a wet noodle. My friend fell asleep during her session so you know hers was good. Very Good! This was one of the best massages I've ever had. This is an Asian style massage, which is very different from American massages. With an Asian massage, they much deeper which many people think is too hard, or causes pain. Yes, in the beginning it can be. If you get regular massages it really doesn't hurt much. They go deep into your muscles which can cause a little pain, but it is really good for your body and muscles. This place is decent and I'm glad I tried it. The staff are friendly and hardworking but it wasn't exactly what I expected. I would say I highly recommend communicating what you would like so you get the experience that you would like. A few things stood out that could be done better or improved upon. 1. When I set up my foot massage the masseuse started then left in the middle of it to go to the front to answer the phone. Now I understand being short staffed but it took away from the massage when there are pauses and "hold on a second, let me answer the phone". One suggestion is to have a phone person in the front. I understand it's difficult to juggle or multi task but I was a client and felt that I wasn't fully attended to. 2. Take away the clocks or find another way to keep track of time. When I was getting my foot massage the entire time I felt the masseuse kept looking at the clock multiple times. I understand if there was a client after me or if they were waiting for another appointment, but I was the last client of the evening (7ish). I didn't like how the man seemed like he was done for the day. 3. Finally make sure to communicate what you want. They have a massage special where they do body (fully clothed) and feet. I specifically asked for a foot massage because my feet were sore. The guy who heard what I wanted forgot and started with the body until I told him to stop. Overall pretty happy with the experience they got us in at the time we wanted. There was no one there when we first got there and they greeted us at the door/opened it which was nice. We got the special for $40 each they do half body half foot. They have a row of beds and two private rooms I think, I like it when the beds are broken up by at least heavy curtains so you're not bothered as much during the massage by other noise and light. The beds here weren't so we heard when people walked by or felt the light changes. The masseuses talked a decent bit during to each other which isn't great but wasn't excessive. I'd say best improvement they could make would be an aroma therapy diffuser and softer towels. The towels were kinda rough which felt good on the back when they massage but kinda rough on more sensitive skin areas. The smell wasn't bad but essential oils would elevate a lot. I specifically requested a female masseuse at a certain time and came in to have a male therapist shows up to start my massage. Drove 30 min away. Called 2 days prior for an 11AM appt for 3 people. Got there and was told to wait 45/60 minutes. They had people in there already. Got there at 1045 at that. We had purchased 2 gift certificates and was paying the 3rd in cash. The guy called the owner and had us speak to him which was pointless no one understood what we were saying. Nonetheless we waited and they took us in 15 min to soak feet for a good 25 min until people became available. Don't bother with appointments. I didn't even see an scheduler there. This review is based on 3 experiences. The first time I went, I did the whole body massage and it was good. So I brought my daughter the other day and she got a foot massage which she liked. I chose a chair massage - big mistake. The woman who worked on me just motioned me into the chair and began working on me. The chair was not adjusted to my size so the face pad was way off, resulting in my neck being stressed and bent, my cheek bones smashing into the wrong part of the pads so much so that I was praying for it to be over! This place is THE place to go to relax and get the best foot/body massage and at a price that doesn't stress you out when you go to pay. I can't believe that $29 buys a massage that is better than the ones I have paid 3 times as much for, but it's true. Now, you aren't going to hear Carlos Nakai playing or have scented oils and hot stones, but you will walk out a noodle. The owner is friendly and accommodating and was able to take me and my friend as walk-ins. Now that I am no longer pregnant, I am having back problems post pregnancy, I RUN to Sunshine Foot Spa when I can not take the pain any longer and have some free time. As long as they have no intention on changing their 1 hour price of $29... expect me as a customer as long as we are in the area! Yes, $29+tip for 1 whole hour. This place is absolutely awesome. Their prices are extremely reasonable - so much so that I tipped extra because it was such a relaxing massage! The husband and wife that own the place are so kind and accommodating, keep to themselves during the massage, and even provide a bottle of water at the end. I was sexually harassed by an older Chinese man during my massage. My boyfriend and I just wanted to come in for a relaxing massage. My boyfriend had sat at the guys chair and had him move to the female so that he could do his thing on me. As a female this is very hard to explain and I am absolutely traumatized by my experience here this evening. The 30 minute foot massage went well, for the next 30 minutes the man took me to a private room, I was face down with no top on either. The massage was good until he started to do these weird stretches on me. He was standing in front of me doing these weird stretches to where my breasts were exposed and I had opened my eyes and he was staring at them the whole time each time he did it.. during the end of the massage he kneeled on the back of my thighs and begun to lower my pants even further down, mind you I was on my back and couldn't move at all. He began to rub his boner in between my buttcheeks multiple times until the time was done. When I had told the manager what happen he chuckled and said it was probably an accident. A police report has been filed and I won't be surprised if the place gets a ticket because I highly doubt these weirdos even have a license to do this kind of work. Jason was my massage therapist; he was great: he massaged my whole body with perfect pressure.
