Started the New Year off on the right foot (:D) with a visit to Sunshine Foot Spa. I had never…read morebeen before, but my sister had, and she suggested we both go for the 60-minute Combo treatment, which includes foot, scalp, and body massage. There are a handful of massage tables all in a row in a cozy, dim, communal room. You keep your clothes on, other than your shoes/socks, throughout the treatment. It might also be a good idea to wear looser clothing and pants that easily roll up past the knee. My sister said they used to have you relocate to one of the private massage rooms for the body massage, but it seems they changed the model and you just do the whole service clothed in the communal room - at least, this was the case for the 60-minute Combo treatment. Or maybe it was just done this way because we were the only clients in the whole spa at the time. My massage was pretty much as relaxing as any I've had in the area, and with all of our health insurance co-pays going up this year, it's probably a better self-care proposition than a session of therapy. ;) The cost was $50 for the 60-minute Combo treatment, plus $2 card processing fee and tip. Do note there may be a language barrier, in case that is a concern of yours. I didn't find this to be a problem.

This along with sitting 10+ hour days in front of a computer makes for bad times sometimes. I cannot afford $70+ dollars each month for a possibly mediocre massage. Here comes Relax Center. It is not the prettiest place to look at, and the person massaging you may or may not smell of cigarettes. What sets this place apart is that you can get a one hour massage for $30 plus tip. I try to tip generously because I am unsure of what the employees are being compensated. There is a language barrier here because the majority of employees only speak Chinese. The person at the front desk speaks English so she can help with special requests or questions. Massages can be hot or miss depending on your masseuse. I have been to a few foot spas in the area and find this place is less choreographed and is able to work on your trouble spots. I also feel like you get a longer back massage but that could be me. Don't forget to pick up a punchcard on the way out!

The therapists were talking to each other at full volume the whole time, even after being asked to be quiet. Staff were arguing with customers at the front desk, people were constantly coming and going, and another customer was playing video games on their phone at full volume. The "reflexology" was just aggressive, fast, painful rubbing with no actual technique. I left sore, stressed, and wondering how this place has such good reviews. I won't be coming back.

Wow. Just wow…read more Immediately upon opening the doors i'm blessed with the soothing scents from their aromatherapy oils that are on shelves covering the wall. Right away as i opened the door, the kind lady rushed right away from the back and asked me right away, "Where is your pain?" I told her all my trouble spots and she told me exactly what i needed, a deep tissue massage. She then asked me if I had any allergies, and chose an oil for the treatment. As a person with many allergies and severe eczema-- she was asking all the right questions that I usually have to constantly remind masseuses about. You pay first, tip later, which is so smart and you pay for what you asked for right away and they won't randomly up charge you towards the end (which has happened to me all over the Glenview area) The massage was insane, in the best way. I'm so upset that despite living in this neighborhood for 21 years, i've never been to this massage spot. i always go to massages with my mom, aunt, and sister as our bonding. I've gotten massages in California numerous times, Philippines, Taiwan, and many more places. Also as we are healthcare workers, our physical pain so deep cut. But i'm genuinely shocked and how well my body feels after the massage. After working 12 hour shifts for days on end-- THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED. When my massage started she right away went into my trouble spots which was my neck and shoulders, i could already feel her target my knot on the first touch, and i was shocked at how quickly she released the tension. She masterfully uses her elbows and joint areas to target the knots and tension in between my scapula and my sternocleidomastoid and sternothyroid muscle. 20 minutes in she told me "you need cupping, it's good for you" I know better and so i just shut up agreed to what she said and said, "Yes ma'am." And wow. It was my first time cupping so honestly i was scared but she is so skillful that it didn't hurt at all. It felt like she was hitting the pressure point to release the tension in that area, and 3.5 years of pain from laborious work was fixed in a one hour session. She kept going and massaging me, asking me if my pain was gone and only stopped when my pain was gone. Amazing, mind blown, go here. I really want to gate keep this place to myself but wow. One of the best massages I've had in my whole life.
