I have been coming here my entire life, and that consistency is part of what makes it special. No matter how much the city grows or changes, Paul's always feels like Paul's. This Christmas morning, I stopped in to grab fruit and it felt like the rest of the city had the same idea. Busy, lively, and still incredibly well run. This year alone, my family ordered firewood from Paul's for the winter and also had them cater Thanksgiving. Both were excellent. That kind of range says a lot. You can pick up beautiful produce, plan a holiday meal, grab something ready to eat, or take care of seasonal needs without bouncing all over town. If you are a Louisville native, I truly hope you already know Paul's Fruit Market. And if you are new to the city or just passing through, this should not be an "if you know, you know" situation. Although the prices are a bit spendy, the quality is far superior to national chain stores. Indoors is a cornucopia of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and prepared cuisines (both hot and cold dinner/lunches). They match and are comparable in price to the larger chain grocery stores and far more fresh and appealing. My wife and I opted for prepared salads I chose the Asian one and it was great. The dressing in particular was to die for.The store is exceptionally clean but rather small and difficult to navigate in such tight quarters. Rumor has it they plan to expand the facility. Parking can also be a beast so it is best to find a spot in the adjacent strip mall near the UPS store. It is so worth it though.

There are 4 Paul's Markets in Louisville, and I am fortunate to live very close to the Middletown location, which opened in 1996. Every summer the outdoor area is chock full of beautiful flowering plants, both annual and perennial varieties. The plants today were lush, healthy, and absolutely stunning. They were priced in line with the local nursery that we most frequent, which is a bit higher than the big box stores. However, as with most things, you get what you pay for. The grocery has a wonderful deli that includes a hot bar and a wide variety of prepared sandwiches, pastas dishes, salads, and deserts. The salad selection was extensive. I opted for a cobb salad that included chicken, bacon, egg, tomatoes, lettuce, blue cheese crumbles and dressing! It was a steal for only $6.99 and absolutely delicious. I chose the honey mustard dressing and it was a chef's kiss! Throughout the grocery area one will find a lot of specialty items such as several types of gluten-free breads, seasonal fruits, regional candies, and much, much more. Paul's is a great place to grab a lunch that is far healthier than the plethora of fast-food options for just a couple more dollars!

Not being able to get food, a table, a drink, or get on a hayride just isn't fun. Today we decided to try our luck at a new spot, Sunny Acres Farm. Sunny Acres took us roughly 30 minutes to drive to. Parking was close, easy, and free. Adult tickets are $10. My children (four and under) were free. Sunny Acres has a small storefront with pumpkins, baked goods, salsas, candy apples, etc. They have various vendors lined up on the short walk to the pumpkin patch. Vendors include artists, kettle corn, and other refreshments. Admission includes access to the petting zoo, bouncy house, pick your own flowers, hayride, corn hole, live music, corn maze, games, and playground. My son rode a pony for $2. The lines were either nonexistent or short. The employees (or perhaps owners?) were friendly, accommodating, and provided a family feel that other similar businesses lack. We ate a meal while we were there. We had hamburgers and hot dogs. I know they also had chili behind the storefront and various other food trucks, including ice cream and adult beverages (cocktails and craft beer). I can't think of anything Sunny Acres lacks. I'm actually afraid of word getting out and having to share this experience with too many people. But, this family farm is worth patronizing.
