Upon first meet Ana was kind, professional, sweet and full of knowledge about the (ALW) Assisted Living Waiver program and about the staff, the entire aspects of the Gardens. My mom had worked there for about 35 years and they welcomed her back as a resident with open arms. Ana always was there to answer questions quick to respond on emails and calls. Working with Ana was a fantastic experience; she was incredibly knowledgeable and efficient". Ana always displayed high-level professionalism and made the entire process stress-free. I highly recommend talking with Ana when considering this property for your loved ones. Ana went above and beyond to solve our issues or concerns I had. I did look at other properties in San Diego and they looked and felt like dorms or prison not to match the price. The Gardens had the lowest price for the best clean rooms and staff, the caregivers are very nice always there when needed. The Gardens felt like Family Ana made us feel like family. My mom is happy and safe. My 2 concerns: 1: with the wait staff and servers most of then were nice and friendly but a handful were always grumpy and just not professional.. They are not quick to see if someone comes in to eat and take there order or even clear the tables so other people can come in and sit. Note: I saw a server not on break in the kitchen area just eating chocolate Ice Cream, I thought Really!!!! 2: They need better activities all day even if only a handful of people are there: Example when they go in trips they should have something going on if you don't go. Maybe different type of activities if you are not a "Religious person" on Sunday. OVER ALL 5++++STAR for Ms Ana above and beyond... I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Calling her take a tour.. My mother and my brother were both at Grossmont Gardens. My brother got a pressure wound/bed sore due to his neglect. He recently passed away. I had moved my mother in only because my brother had been sent there from the hospital and I wanted her to be close to him for visits and I read reviews on Google and they were all good (Previously, she was at Oakmont of Escondido Hills). The neglect at Grossmont Gardens is unfathomable. I guess it's true when they say you get what you pay for. They are shortstaffed, but you just have to make it work. Whenever I complained I was given lip service. Nothing changed. Just one of many examples was when I visited mom last Friday. Let me first apologize if it's too much information/too graphic but I think it's important for whoever's reading this to know... Mom was complaining about burning in her private area. She had been previously diagnosed with a UTI, which is when I first complained and asked why they don't do rounds every two hours and check diapers and change if necessary. Her hospice nurse who would visit once or twice a week had witnessed and took pictures of a saturated diaper, going through her clothing onto the bedsheets. So, this time when she was complaining of burning, I thought perhaps it was another UTI (she had previously been diagnosed with a rare bacterial infection and after this incident I am about to describe, I can understand why). I pushed her button to have somebody come check and change her. After five minutes of waiting, I went out to the desk area. On previous occasions when I looked for staff, they were nowhere to be found or I'd find them and they were on their phone and I would have to speak up for them to look up to see me so I can ask them a question or get help. This time the caregiver, Mati was chatting with two other caregivers. I had to say, "excuse me", and then asked how they know when someone pushes their button, because there was another time when I pushed it and no one came and we discovered the battery was dead (so those are not checked regularly). The caregiver turned around to look at the computer because her back was turned to the computer while she was chatting with other staff. I asked if the button was working and she said, "yes" (as she saw her room number lit up). She came to mom's room. I gave some privacy and stepped out, but when I heard my mom say, "oh that hurts" I went in and the smell was horrendous. Even the caregiver was making a disgusted face. The caregiver informed me that she had asked Esther, the previous caregiver to change her before she left and said, "I don't think she did." She also commented that it smells so bad because it had been there a while. Her diaper was full of feces. This caregiver was having to clean my mother's vagina because the feces had gone up into it and that was why it was burning. She will probably get another UTI now. I left the room for her to continue and finish. She left and I went back in. My mother was then saying her pants were all wet and I thought perhaps it was because the caregiver had been washing her area with water and maybe got some on her pants and put them back on her. I went to change my mom's clothing, and when I pulled the pants down, the feces was in her pants, so it had spilled out over from the diaper and the caregiver had just put the same pants back on. I was livid. I took pictures, which I will not post obviously. I texted Lynn, who I will say is very responsive (always was when there was an issue, even if she was not working that day), but I should not have to text her every time there is a problem. She and another staff member came in and took care of Mom. They also cleaned her room because her room was always in disarray with trash and food crumbs (one time I asked them for a broom so I could sweep. And her cleaned clothes were still in bags, because the staff from the night before had not hung them up so I hung them myself). We made sure mom got a shower that evening. I went back on Sunday to move Mom out of there. Again, this was just one example of many issues. Avoid this place at all cost. They also charge extra for care coordination between hospice and the facility and yet there was no care coordination. The hospice nurse for my brother would tell them to do something and they would not do it.

We choose it because of the facility itself and the staff. The rooms are spacious and well-kept. For the past 3 years I have noticed that it is always clean and extremely well maintained. They have been sprucing it up the past year in areas that were getting worn. They've done a nice job. It provide pleasant environment for the residents. They offer a varied menu and I have always found the food is often better than any other institutional food I have eaten. In three years I never experienced an awful meal. I live locally so I did eat there on many occasions. They provide a varied offering for every meal. There is also a large and varied daily schedule of activities for the residents. As my mother's health declined one of her strongest complaints was that she was unable to go to her daily activities and hang with her friends. But of course the most important aspect when considering any facility is the staff. In three years I have meet dozens of employees and have been highly impressed with the level of concern and care and, most importantly, the patience I have seen by almost all of the staff. I have never seen anything untoward. I have noticed a somewhat high turnover level, especially in the administrative staff, over the past three years but they seem to do a good job refilling those positions with the same like-minded staff. There are at least a dozen staff members I would label as always going up and beyond to assist the residents. I would like to add that I recognize it isn't easy working with some residents due to their disabilities and their frustrations with their life as it is now but the staff at Montera does it with aplomb, respect and kindness.

The head chief, Crystal, sat with us for 1/2 an hour and explained that she had only been working there for 2 months. She is revising the menu offerings and incorporating more fresh food and she also listen to residents when they have suggestions. Wes, the Director, sat down and chatted with us too. They have the best of a board and care and the best of a facility and none of the bad of those places. I've spent at least 5 hours a day there every day and the staff have shown over and over that they really care. They have made efforts above and beyond my expectations to make my Dad feel at home, cared for, and even loved. They have also made me and my family feel at home when we are there. Dad's dementia got so much worse that we could no longer care for him. They worked with us to get him in and comfortable so quickly after a fall at home that made his needs dramatically worse. They moved him closer than we had arranged so they could keep a closer eye on him and be quicker to help him. I love that there are plenty of people there that just need assisted living too. The variety is so good for him. The pet tortoise there provides Dad with entertainment that suits him. They have activities programmed that are wonderful too. The grounds are beautiful. Gigi and Iliana run this place so well. Wonderful staff, wonderful facilities, wonderful price, wonderfully administrated, and the meals look amazing. They did stock my Dads favorites when he did not want to eat and now he is eating again. I met the owner, Jeff, and he seems to be genuinely kind too. Every day I feel more and more confident that he is in the best place I could ever hope for. Having to place my mom into a facility was a difficult and painful decision. But my mother needed care to keep her safe, more care than I was capable of safely providing her. So in dealing with the guilt of this decision to place her in a facility, I feel beyond blessed to have found MesaView Senior Assisted Living. To begin, Genoveva was warm, understanding, reassuring and welcoming. It was a rough time to move her, as it was also during COVID. But, Genoveva made the move seamless, in doing everything to make my mother feel safe and comfortable, as well as us. The facility is beautiful! An inviting and renovated room to call her own (we decorated with her personal belongings). A fantastic large open yard for her to be outside and enjoy, which was important for her and to us. There is even a large turtle that roams freely, as well as birds that sing, to put a smile on all the residents faces. The facility is smaller, cozy and more charming than a larger facility. I never feel like my mother will be confused or lost among too many people; I have observed how she smiles as she recognizes the people there (even with her dementia). The staff is absolutely incredible! The staff are always helpful, professional, kind, warm and friendly to the resident's and their needs, as well as the families. You can always hear them cheerfully greeting the residents by name even when just walking by. They are fantastic in their communication with me about medications and any concerns I or they may have about my mother. They are available 24/7 for any of your questions or concerns. Let me add, they did a fantastic job for the resident's safety during COVID times. The food...they strive and take pride in providing very healthy meal plans for the residents, with respect for meeting individual's needs as well. I am so VERY grateful for the amazing staff, they are truly the best!!! Now that Covid is relaxing guidelines, more activities are opening up for the residents and their families at MesaView. They have a calendar of daily activities available for the resident's enjoyment. They also plan special holiday family days, which are always lovely to participate in.
