Avi is a magician. I have a very expensive safe and I forgot the combination. Everybody said that it would have to be drilled because real safe crackers only exist in movies. I did not want it drilled if possible. Truth is stranger than fiction. Avi got right to work and spent three hours manipulating the lock. Even after I told him to go ahead and drill it, he would not let it beat him. I got the biggest kick out of seeing him open it with just skill and determination. He takes great pride in his work. I hope I never find myself in the same situation, but if I do, I know to call Avi. I asked him to replace the analog combination with a digital keypad. My 2 year old is obsessed with keys and driving, so he tried to start our Jaguar with the pocket clip attachment from a ball-point pen. It did not work out well. The end broke off in the ignition, and the real key would not turn. I called Sunshine--they quoted me 50 minutes and were right on time. The guy warned me that Jag ignitions are especially tricky (which I knew). I was ready to tell him to give up after a half hour, but I'm glad he persevered. He was in an uncomfortable position the entire time while being peppered with questions from my kids. It looked like he was doing microsurgery. He worked on it for 45 minutes before he could even see or feel the broken part with the small tools he was using. When you lock yourself out of your apartment, it's not until the door has already closed shut behind you that the panic kicks in. Add a scratching whining dog and neighbors passing by you, whilst you stand by your door, NOT going in, and forget about it. You're just plain trying to not flip out. However, you are so glad that cell fones are attached to our hips these days, because you can call Avi; as I learned. What bad circumstances to meet such a nice guy. He understands; you can tell. No sooner had I called him, he had my door cracked and I was writing him a check. I called Sunshine Locksmith because I was in a bind. I was watching my friend's apartment while she was out of town and the keys she gave me didn't all work properly. I guess she got them copied but didn't have time to try them before she left--bummer! Sunshine Locksmith explained to me, that although I seemed to be sincere, that they didn't know who I was and they couldn't risk the chance of making a key for the wrong person. Sunshine Locksmith further explained the seriousness of "owner verification" and that in order to make the keys they would need to speak directly with the owner of the apartment to verify proper ownership. If any locksmith were to make a key for someone other than the owner there are serious consequences, including loss of their license. Sunshine Locksmith takes their business very serious and will never make a key without obtaining proper "owner verification." Although I was unable to immediately get into my friend's apartment, I was able to get in touch with her--thank God--and she overnighted the keys to me. The moral of the story is no matter what your key situation is, make sure keys work first before you leave them behind with someone to handle your business. And be very thankful there are locksmiths out there like Sunshine Locksmith who takes precautions for you in your absence-- who will have your back even if you don't know it! We have an old 1920's original front door deadbolt and handset lock that was broken, with the deadbolt locked. 15 years ago, when another locksmith (experienced with old locks) came to fix the same deadbolt, we were told never to use it or else it would be impossible to repair. So when Avi arrived, I was afraid that he would need to hacksaw the bolt to open the door. But noooo...Avi knew just how the old lock worked and he was able to not only open the door and salvage the lock, but he got it working again! What a wonderful surprise!
