I rarely get locked out of my apartment, but when I do, I'm in my PJs and I don't have a phone, money or any of my friends' contact information on me. So when I finally found a passerby who was willing to lend me their phone I pounced and called Sunshine Locksmith. I explained my dire situation and Avi promised to be at the scene in 2 hours. I emphasized that once I hung up, there would be no way to contact me since I didn't have a phone. He was kind and reassuring and said no matter what he would be there at the allotted time. I needed a deadbolt replaced because it was stuck in the locked position. Avi came over promptly and not only did he do a great job in replacing the deadbolt, he also adjusted the door so the lock now works a lot better. He really took care that the new deadbolt worked well. He also adjusted another door (without charging extra). Other locksmiths wanted to change the entire lock. Based on all the good reviews I'm guessing I'm the odd man out. Was told it would be $225. to come to San Rafael and crack my Sentry Safe. Once he got here told me it would be $325. When I questioned his original quote he said well I will just leave if you don't pay me. I needed the safe opened so I paid the extra $100. Might be better if your safe is small like mine to take it to him then he might actually honor his quote. He took about 45 seconds to open the safe so that was nice yet the price was way too high. In hind sight I wish I would have just told him to leave and found someone more honorable. read more

OK, although I didn't have the opportunity to get anything done with this company, I have to give them two stars. I called around and looked at other options. So for the life of my I'm finding it really hard to understand why a company would charge nearly 200 dollars each to copy keys. I mean yes, I could understand if the keys were being cut from a guestimate, but I specifically said three times that it was just making copies of a key I already had and on top of all of it, I would provide the blanks, so the only function would be to cut some blanks from an original that I would provide. Thank you, but I got the service done for about 20bucks from another location. Today, Avi saved my toddler and I from a very unfortunate (and sleepless) evening. Those of you with kids might understand what it's like when your 2 year old skips their nap. I was ripped off from a previous locksmith, Sunshine Locksmith is my 2nd locksmith for fixing my door lock, the previous locksmith charged me almost $300.00 (cash plus credit card) and ask me to change my lock. I had double-paned windows and sliding glass doors installed throughout the house about fifteen years ago and, not to put too fine a point on it, they suck on about nine thousand different levels. One of the main issues has been with the handles on the sliding glass doors, which have broken off on a number of occasions over the years. A couple of weeks back, however, I entered entirely new territory when the lock on the sliding glass door leading to the backyard completely disintegrated. I don't know about you, but I consider having no way of locking the back door of my house to be something of a security issue, so I got right on the phone to Sunshine Locksmith. "How soon can you be here?" I whined. "I'm sorry, sir, " Avi said, "but the soonest I could be there is in about twenty minutes." Sure enough, twenty minutes later there he was on my stoop. He gave my door a good, old-fashioned look-see and said, "This is a weird lock. This is going to require some research." He gave me some pointers on how to secure the door in the interim and took his leave. I figured I would hear from him in a day or two if I was lucky. Thirty minutes later he calls and says, "The good news is that I found the replacement part. The bad news is that because the company that made and installed your windows and doors is no longer in business [you could have knocked me over with a feather] and the part we're talking about is a rather obscure piece of gear, it is a) going to be a bit on the pricey side and b) is going to take two weeks to deliver." I resigned myself to the idea of spending a fortnight going out the back door, opening the garage door, going around to the front of the house, securing the back door with a dowel, and going back out through the front door and around the house to the garage every time I left home. Exactly *one* week later, Avi calls me late in the day and informs me that the part has come in. I ask him how soon he can install it. He asks me how thirty minutes grabs me. I tell him that it grabs me in the most pleasurable way imaginable. He arrives about twenty minutes later and spends about an hour diligently working on what clearly is not an easy job. When he's finished, he tells me that I have a year warranty and not to hesitate to call him if I have any problems with the lock during that time. He also charges me twenty dollars less than his original estimate. The new lock works like a dream, certainly far better than the one it replaced.
