This was the such an amazing and extremely fun experience! The experience is the best only because Samantha is a very caring, energetic and a truly talented instructor. She is so experienced in not just paddle boarding but how to help and understand dogs. I have 2 large rescue dogs- a husky and a German shepherd. I had just adopted my 1 year old German shepherd 4 months ago and my whole family have never gone paddle boarding. I went with my older son who also has a left sided weakness due to a brain tumor. The night before, I was starting to feel that this was too risky for all of us and felt a bit stupid for booking this lesson considering my son's handicap and my new 1 year old shepherd rescue whom I'm still trying to train. But my doubts were totally unfounded because Sam truly knows what she is doing! She kept all of us- mom and dad with 2 boys and 2 dogs safe. She even had my husky moved from board to board so that every member of the family had photos on the board with a dog. She took photos and videos which captured all the precious moments. The German shepherd jumped off the board many times but she built my confidence in what to do and to let her jump off. As she put it, the dogs also need to learn and build their confidence- so not only does she teach you how to paddle board she gives wonderful doggie parenting advice. Lol. Even if they jumped off she coached us on what to do and how to help them get up on the board. They are 50 to 60 pounds, but with her coaching I felt like I could do anything. Plus I knew if any of us were in trouble Samantha was right there to help. We were a party of 4 boards and the wind was strong so even if we were not nearby Samantha kept an eye on every one of us and ensured we were not only safe but having a blast. My son with the left sided weakness could only competently paddle on 1 side but she knew what to do and coached him accordingly. At one point she even towed him along next to her board to get him back to the rest of the group. Wow- we were all totally impressed. She kept giving us pointers on how to do things if we ever paddle boarded on our own or with other instructors but honestly, with her coaching and energy , we will be only be back to paddle board with her. San Diego is not too close to our home but we will definitely do this again and again. She was mentioning another customer/family who comes out from out of state yearly to paddle board with her and it seems we will be joining this recurrent paddle boarding club. Jamie was our instructor and I was so impressed with how prepared they are -- life vest, leash, treat pouch, water! This was my dog's (Xola) first time experiencing both water and paddleboarding. She had such a wealth of experience and knowledge about dogs and everything was explained so well. Nothing was too overwhelming, I thought she gave the right amount of information at each point of our lesson. She easily managed both me & my pup as well as my beginner friends who joined us. Sam is an amazing teacher and trainer! She is patient, demonstrates skills effectively, explains techniques clearly, and gives you the confidence you need for mastering SUP. I found Sup Pups when I was searching for things to do with my pup while visiting San Diego. This one popped right up and after reading so many 5 star reviews (even on YouTube) I decided to book. I cannot express how awesome this experience was. From booking to the end, the process was incredibly easy and the instructions are thorough. But the real gem, is Sam!! I have an English bull terrier who has severe anxiety and can be temperamental depending on the day. My dog was experiencing anxiety upon arrival but by the end she was enjoying a pup cup and giving kisses. Sam walked us through the whole process since we are beginners and really just went with the vibe so that Priscilla, our dog, could enjoy the experience as well. The instructions emailed afterward are very clear with where to park and how to find SUP Pups. If anyone is coming from the L.A. area be mindful of unexpected traffic. When I realized I was going to be late due to traffic I called Sam right away. She was super sweet and flexible with pushing back my reservation to a later time so I wouldn't have to rush or have a limited time paddle boarding. Once I arrived Sam was super energetic and ready to go! She is very informative and passionate about paddle boarding and dogs. She gives step by step instructions with what to do and what to expect on and off the water, and with your dog. For being a first-timer she made me feel super confident. When we got on the water the experience was great! It honestly didn't even feel like we were on the water for an hour because of how friendly Sam is that we chatted the whole time making the experience very comfortable. This review is long, long overdue. My pup and I had our first lesson with Sam back in 2019, and it was an incredible experience. Sam was a very thorough instructor and got us out on the water and standing on the board in less than 10 minutes. It was out first time trying to SUP, and Sam encouraged us and helped us feel comfortable on the board. The location was also very easy to find and access, and there's plenty of street parking. Sam provides all the equipment that you will need - human, and dog, life vests, board, paddle, and instills confidence in your ability. The water in the location is also very calm, and beginner friendly! I went back a couple years later to do a solo lesson with Sam, and I had the same friendly and fun experience with her as in the first lesson. Most recently, I went out with her again with my pup and she took the best photos and videos of us. She helped capture memories and experience that I will get to look back on and cherish as my pup is growing older. Sam's positivity and warm spirit shines through in every lesson and every interaction that I've had with her. We originally met Samantha, the founder of SUP-Pups when she carried a pet consumer product. It was at a pet charity event for vets on Memorial Day. Sam explained her paddle board lessons with dogs that day and it remains an activity we want to get our dog involved. Just waiting for summer of 2021. Our dog isn't a fan of water and for me, I love water but like it when the water is warmer too. I ended up connecting with Sam as she was offering holiday photo sessions via paddle board. Where do we start!? We went to a Berner meet up and did paddle boarding for the first time. When we got there there was such a cute setup of snacks for the humans and snacks for the doggies. She even gave all the puppies bandannas. Not to mention while we were out there she took great photos and videos of everyone it was amazing not worrying about balancing on a board with your dog and trying to take photos. I was super nervous because I knew my Velcro dog would only go with me on the board. Sam is truly amazing. She handled our group of 15+ people and dogs with such ease. She made putting our big dogs in the water so easy. I couldn't believe it. Her confidence in us made my nerves go away and had a great, relaxing time out in the water. Wow!! I'd give Sup Pups a million stars if I could! My dog doesn't like new things, she is almost 17, her hearing and eyesight are failing, and she is just very very set in her ways. I wanted to sup with her and I wanted her to enjoy it, but the day before my appointment I got scared and called Sam to cancel. I am SO glad I talked to Sam on the phone vs cancelling through email because she listened to my concerns and really reassured me that everything would be fine. She's been doing this for 7 years and Flashie isn't her first nervous customer! She has a perfect plan for nervous dogs and I could hear the confidence in her voice! From the moment we arrived Flash was happy and comfortable! She liked Sam a lot and let her help adjust her life vest. Flash got on the board, almost by herself - we just had to help bc her arms are only 3" tall and the board is very thick which also means very stable. Once on the water Flashie stayed close to me. Like I said, she is old AF and her balance wasn't great but as long as she was leaning on me, she was fine. She stood some, sat some and even laid down. She loved the sun on her face and the wind in her ears! When we got back to shore Flashie happily hopped off the board back to land. At no point was my typically ultra nervous dog scared, nervous or uncomfortable. I would recommend this activity for any dog! read more

Cannot recommend SUP Pups and Sam enough - whether you're a local or just lucky visiting SD with your pup, do yourself a favor and enjoy time on the water with Sam! She is super bubbly, welcoming and a true dog lover. Sam gave us instruction and helped us with our paddleboarding technique while also making sure to help us introduce our corgi to the board properly. The boards were so easy to use and stand on - no falls here! Our corgi even walked back and forth on the board during the ride and it didn't even make me teeter - felt super comfortable and confident! During our trip Sam mentioned she does free outings for foster parents as an opportunity for them to do something fun but also capture great photos of the pups to help get them adopted - so amazing and sweet! We loved our experience with SUP Pups and Sam! We took a lesson early in the morning while the bay was still glassy, and our pup Captain took to SUPing pretty quickly. Sam provided such great instruction on what to do when launching our boards, what to do if our pup falls in, etc. My fiancé and I are pretty avid SUPers but we also learned a lot and were able to further refine our techniques. The most amazing thing happened after our lesson though. We have a pretty shy and timid pup, but she was so confident after the class! Had the best day at SUP Pups! I took my 11month Shepinois for a great ride and it could not have been more fun or professional. We went for the private lesson and our instructor, Andrene, made it so much fun while also zeroing in on all the important elements I was hoping to learn. Dog friendly adventure! Just go. Stop what you are doing and go! Sam and Jack are the best instructors for us SUP newbies. We had so much fun! And now have excellent photos & videos of our adventure. (Included in session). This was me stepping outside of my comfort zone and it could not have gone better. Sam is super fun and really supportive. I was initially worried that my girl was not a water dog, maybe she would tip us or something. But as it turns out that is the best as my girl had Zero desire to touch the water. She stayed right on the board and she had a lot of fun! This is also an excellent workout. Loved our lesson so much I bought an inflatable SUP with a recommendation from Sam. The pawsome board we used is made by antidote outdoors. But we have a small apartment and need an inflatable one, for now. When you arrive you park at the cul-de-sac and walk over to the parking area of the hotel where Sam has the boards and doggy PFD if you need one. She will send you all info that you need once you book a session. Wear flip flops that you can leave at the beach. When you get back to the board storage Sam has a hose you can rinse your feet off. The board has a built in doggy bowl for water too! I brought treats as my girl is definitely food driven and helped her to settle in and enjoy herself. When my girl is happy I'm happy and we thank Sam and Jack for our amazing adventures! We've been there twice now and drive down from LA.
