When you think of Super8 you don't think luxury do you? Well, I sure didn't. So I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the accommodations here are the Super 8 Austin Airport North! The building is located on 183 and E. 51st. It's a great location for getting to the airport, and to great local favorites like Casey's Snow Cones. There is not much else directly around the hotel too, which reduced noise and traffic to some extent. When you walk in your greeted by friendly hotel staff, and the lobby is furnished and decorated well. They have free hot breakfasts, complimentary computer use, a game room, laundry, and in-ground pool. Everything is clean and well maintained. We stayed on the third floor in one of the suites. My room had two queen beds which were quite comfortable, a sofa (that converted), desk, mini fridge, safe box, microwave, flat screen tv, DVD player, and little extras like a scale and laundry basket. It was really like living home away from home. The cleaning staff did an exceptional job except for one day when they must have forgotten to replace towels and and empty the trash in the bathroom. The only other improvements I could see were: I would have liked softer pillows and the angle of the shower curtain rod should be adjusted to provide more coverage from the curtain itself. It was one of the bowed rods but the angle caused the curtain to slide down and in toward the middle of the shower instead of covering the ends. I was traveling with a 60+ person who used their AARP card to get a discount, and let me tell you - this was well worth the price we paid. THIS COULD'VE BEEN 5 STARS IF IT WEREN'T FOR 2 THINGS; 1. My duvet had crusty white mystery stains on it EWWWW 2. Our in room Jacuzzi had dirt sitting in it I am in no way a neat freak or hotel snob but c*m stains and dirty tubs is something I can't look past. The rooms are huge! The tv is big with all the good cable channels. They've got the most comfortable beds! I literally melted into the bed (after fixing the stained sheets problem) and drifted into heavenly sleep. They'll provide any basic bath item you may have forgotten. Breakfast is awesome! Eggs, bacon, sausage, yummy waffles, oj, coffee, and much more. We asked for a later check out and with no questions asked gave it to us. No extra charge. The Jacuzzi in our room was so relaxing. Big enough for me and my husband, we're both Texas sized lol! i've never felt compelled to write a review but this was the worst experience i've ever had at a hotel. from the moment we got to the 3rd floor it smelled like bob marley had moved in for the weekend. fine. it's austin. the room was terrible. stains on the floor. and immediately 3 cockroaches were on 3 different walls. i ended up killing 7 that night. i woke up the next morning to 2 on the nightstand and one dead next to my pillow. yuck. the hairdryer was broken but not like i care at this point. to cap it off, when i went outside to get some air, a guy opened his second story window and pees outside. this is ridiculous do not stay her. i want to add that the guy working the desk at night was nice to try to find some bug spray at 2 am but didn't have any. read more

We stayed here for our trip to ACL. It's about 15-20 minutes away (car ride) from the venue depending on traffic. Our check in went smoothly. The front desk man was friendly and made the process very easy. Our room was a mini spa suite. A small room with a jacuzzi at the corner, which I was super excited for. **We never used it though. The room was a little musty even though the AC was running. I wasn't fond of the smell at first but it eventually went away. Some cons about the room - the shower was a little tough to function. The shower head was not strong so water did not run well. The shower curtain was also very outdated - white with yellow stains. We later found a dead bug in the jacuzzi which is why didn't use it. Our AC was also hard to manage - we couldn't turn it off. However, our bed was clean. Aside from the room needing some updates, the staff were very nice and attentive. I probably wouldn't stay here again because the freeway next to the place is undergoing construction, so traffic gets pretty congested. I wouldn't recommend this location if you're trying to be in downtown Austin daily. read more

Okay so I rarely rate a clean hotel badly, HOWEVER, this hotel had so many little problems that I can't help it! Seriously overpriced for the quality very limited parking and parking spots typically reserved for people with disabilities are reserved for their shuttle drivers rather that customers with disabilities that will probably be carrying luggage. Most hotels now put bottled water in rooms for coffee makers this hotel also does this but charges $4 for a 1 liter bottle! Note from a store these bottles are typically about a dollar. The room looks like someone can't let go of the sixties and had quite a bit of unrepaired damage to the wall in the bathroom. They have a nice coffee maker the the lobby but no liquid creamer just the disgusting powdered crap. After that I didn't even bother to check out breakfast. My biggest complaint is no water pressure it took me twice as long as usual to wash my hair. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the man at the front desk was very pleasant. read more

For the price and the quality of the room you cannot beat this hotel. It's not near downtown, or anything besides 183 for that matter, but if you're traveling for business give this a strong consideration. The ownership is extremely polite and friendly; they really seem to care for your needs. They have a Starbucks coffee maker downstairs, which puts out a better cup of coffee than most drip coffee makers ever would. It's only 10-15 minutes from the airport, so you don't have to worry about making your flight due to traffic, and it's about 15-20 minutes to downtown or the university. Free wifi with a pretty strong connection, comfy beds, and decent sized bathrooms. I have friends visiting next month and they're staying here based on my recommendation, I enjoyed my stay here that much. read more

Insanely impressed with this place!! I was skeptical because its a Super 8 but this place is very nice. We usually stay at the Hyatt or Hilton, but this hotel treated us just as well. Khy at the desk was professional and courteous. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are big and actually CLEAN!! each room has a theme which is different and cool. We got the Longhorn themed. Lol DVDs are free to use. HDTV is nice. Any info you need on the local restaurants or nightlife is readily available as soon as you get to your room. If you are hesitant, I understand, but don't be. Based on other reviews, I expected a decent room. Wrong. The room was dirty and smelled nasty. The toilet wouldn't flush. The front desk came to check it and deemed it "slow to flush". Booked thru the internet having found that the hotel was pet friendly. After getting to the room, found out that it is not pet friendly. I left the room promptly, went to the front desk telling the clerk of the pet issue, and left the hotel as an exception to the policy would not be granted. I did not get a refund at that time because the clerk was new and needed to ask the manager. Finally, two days later, the hotel's manager only offered a partial refund "because I had checked in!" The hotel was not full, by-the-way. Check-in was curious with the intense scrutiny over my Drivers License, vehicle license, and other information. The front desk clerk as new so perhaps that's the reason and it was much different (weirder) than any other hotel at which I have stayed. The clerk made a big deal about the front doors being locked at 9 pm (see note below re: location...) I cannot comment on the room as I was not in it except for a few minutes. Stayed here on business. The hotel is not well maintained--missing tiles on the elevator floor and the walls aren't in great condition. Found a large ant in my bed, and there was trash left over from the previous inhabitant of my room. I asked for a wake-up call and a shuttle. Never received the wake-up call, and when I got down to the lobby I discovered that the shuttle wasn't booked as promised. Ended up spending an additional $33 to get to the airport myself. Fortunately still made my flight on time. Probably should have sprung for a slightly more expensive place with more reliable service. Every person who works at this hotel (mostly Heather) does NOT belong working in hospitality. We arrived at 10am super tired from travel and we had no car and they would not let us check in til 3pm so we were waiting in their small lobby as people who had no reservations got their rooms right away. Two days into our trip we called the front desk for more towels and Heather answered and said "yah if you want to come and get them we do" and she only would give us 3 even with 4 people in the room. Housekeeping was the only people who I'd give credit too because they made sure we had everything we needed but don't bother the front desk or they will be sure to let you know you are bothering them. The room we stayed in had a looked like it got broken into but the front desk ignored it. the staff is friendly but needs to spend money to fix the place. I would not recommend staying there. THE RESERVATION - Beware of their false advertising bait and switch room scam. I booked my room online at super8.com. Because I have dietary restrictions, whenever I am staying in a hotel more than a night or two, I prefer to book a room that includes a kitchen area so I can prepare my own food. I was booking a room for 9 nights during SXSW in March so I definitely wanted a room with a kitchen. I made a reservation on their website for a One King Bed Non-Smoking EFFICIENCY because it included a kitchenette area. The photo representing the room that I booked showed a small kitchen area in the room. When I arrived on a Thursday night to check into my room, I was given a key to a STANDARD One King Bed Room and NOT the EFFICIENCY that I had reserved. I went back to the front desk and told them that there must have been a mistake. The woman working the front desk looked confused and then picked up the phone and walked into a back room (so I couldn't hear) and called the manager of the hotel. However, I have very good hearing and could hear everything that was said on this side of the phone conversation. The manager told her to tell me that my room was not available when it was booked. Can you imagine??? MY ROOM WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN IT WAS BOOKED. How is that even possible? How do you let someone book a room in a hotel when the room is not available in the first place? That is pure false advertising and a bait and switch scam because I would have NEVER booked a room in this hotel in the first place if one was not available with a kitchen. In addition, I booked this room TWO MONTHS in advance. The hotel had TWO MONTHS to contact me about the reservation and tell me that the room I booked was not available. They never did. They even called me the DAY BEFORE I was to arrive to confirm my stay and again they said NOTHING about the room I booked not being available. That is a COMPLETELY unacceptable way to do business. I told the woman at the front desk how unacceptable that was and that I wanted to stay in the room that I had paid for and that if I was not going to stay in that room then I wanted a severe discount on the room that I was staying in. She crunched some numbers and told me that what I was paying already included the discount. I told her that what I was paying for was an EFFICIENCY room and not a STANDARD room and because I was not staying in the type of room that I had reserved, I should be provided with a discount. She told me that I would need to contact the manager and that the manager is not in during nights or weekends. I told her that I should not have to be inconvenienced by having to go out of my way to track down the manager because it was not my fault that they screwed up my reservation. They were the ones completely at fault and as such requested that the manager contact me instead. I left my name and contact information. Needless to say, the manager NEVER made any effort to contact me at all during my stay. My schedule was so tight and fully booked because of SXSW that I did not have any time to try and find another hotel to stay in nor would it have been easy or even possible considering that all of the hotels in the area are booked to capacity during that time. THE ROOM There were some stains on the furniture as well as on the decorative pillow on the bed. The rug was old. The vanity in the bathroom was 37" high. A standard bathroom vanity is about 32" high. This bathroom was made for someone about 7 feet tall. I'm 5' 7" and felt like I needed to use a stool if I wanted to brush my teeth or wash my face in the sink. I can't imagine how someone smaller than me (like around 5 feet tall) would ever function in that bathroom. Forget about trying to get close to the mirror to put on eye makeup or anything, there's no way with a vanity that tall. They did have a pull out makeup/magnification mirror on the wall but that was mounted at a height of more than 6 feet which was way over my head so that was totally useless also. The water pressure on the shower was so bad, it felt like standing under a dripping faucet. I would NEVER stay in this hotel again. CLEANLINESS: Poor BED: Comfortable PILLOWS: All small. All the same. WATER PRESSURE: None TOWELS: Okay LIGHTING: Poor OUTLETS: Okay REFRIGERATOR: Good size. Friendly, efficient staff and clearly marked entrance to the lobby, parking and room directions. Even easy early checkin. The room looked nothing like the picture. You could tell they were in the process of updating and replacing some things (partially done); the bedspread with tears and quite old. The curtain over the AC unit seemed clean, yet the air was stale and possibly had not had the filter or something changed in quite awhile. One bonus, a ceiling fan in the room-that was cool and clean. The wall around the curtain, close to the door and baseboard; could have used a good cleaning-especially to remove the small piece of gum there.The "new" floor was still not complete and with a lot of scrapes and marks-especially the baseboards with a lot of fill in crap very obviously displayed and even a one small roach crawling around, near the mini fridge. It was a bit a hazard in the small connection between the ill-applied "new" floor and where the bathroom vanity/closet are with no hangers and the iron chord quite dirty and stained; even the ironing board was a bit water stained burnt. The towels were very old and not even bath towel. Not appreciative that the actual bath towels were brought almost half an hour after I had already taken a shower to sleep early before my flight the next day. There was no working vent in the bathroom and not well lit. They even had a shoddy patch where the pole connected with the wall that looked like a last minute fix and no seal around where you can hang your washcloth-maybe that's how another roach chose to "greet me" in the shower. yikes! Plus the stale air was not pleasant while trying to get ready early the next morning. It is a bit inconvenient to any eating places (since Baby Acapulco closed and will be relocating very soon), yet perfect to the highway access and the choices at the vending machine were very scarce. It is a bit disappointing that there is no elevator (or not easily found) here and the stairs was a bit half hazard and slippery where there are AC drainage onto it. The breakfast area was fair, yet the choices were scarce. No bagels/cream cheese or hot cocoa and one choice of tea. Looked like the set up was a later addition and not enough room to maneuver around with other guests. plenty of tv entertainment for all views, yet quite tight in trying to get to the toasters and having the juice(s) be on the far end. You would think it would be a bit more organized and plentiful. Maybe have a drink station on its own; then have the milk and cereal close by; then the waffle maker and toasters together. It did make it chaotic when waiting a turn to toast bread with all the overflow of workers using up each slot..lol. and the only fresh fruit available were oranges-no bananas? or yogurt? All in all; it was a fair set up. I would say one night is ok, yet not regular use. read more

My wife and I checked into our room around 3:30pm and found that the A/C was not working. I called the front desk and reported it. The desk clerk promptly came up to our room and after punching a few buttons decided she needed to call someone to look at it. We left the hotel and returned about 10pm. The A/C was still not working. I went down to the desk to see what was up and was told that it would be after 11pm before someone could look at it. Long story short no one ever came to look at it and we were never asked if we wanted another room. When we checked out, I told the morning desk clerk that we had spent a rather uncomfortable night without A/C or heat. I asked him if he had been notified of the problem and he said he had not and proceeded to charge us full price for the room. I just looked at a review that said how luxurious this place was and I can only assume that person was on drugs or maybe never traveled a day outside of their trailer park. I'm only giving 3 stars because I didn't have any bad interactions with the staff but outside of that there wasn't much to rave about. Room was subpar and the facility was pretty clean from what I seen. The water pressure in our room on the 3rd floor was non existent. I could honestly say was probably the worst or one of the worst water pressures I've ever experienced in a hotel. The refrigerator was barely kicking out proper temperatures and I had it turned all the way up to the coldest option available. Wasn't good enough to keep our food or drinks cold plus it had a slightly funky odor. The pool was filthy and looked like 50 homeless people jumped in at once to bathe. Not sure if that was according to the time of year or they just don't attend to the pool area. The arm of our computer chair was torn in the room. I wouldn't say the room was terrible but to sum it up in one word I'd say it was "Dingy" looking. We were there for about 4 days and didn't even take advantage of the free breakfast option because it just didn't seem too appetizing and not a great selection of food. Wouldn't revisit, I'll pay the extra $30-$50 a night to upgrade to a more reputable place. read more

This is a motel, something I was not aware of when I booked am evening for four adults. If you are traveling or passing through, this motel will do the trick. The room itself is good. I say good because I did not get a nice hotel clean feeling, but I also did not feel like the place was gross. I had no issue walking around with my shoes off, and was not 'skeeved' out when laying down to fall asleep. Complete with a mini fridge, tv, desk, and toiletries. They are dog friendly and will charge $25 upon request. Once you step outside of your room, you will clearly realize that the hotel is located on the side of a major highway. The continental breakfast in the morning, running from 6am - 9am, was good. I recommend the Texas shaped waffles and cereal (sorry if you were expecting a gourmet spread). Overall, the experience was almost exactly what we were looking for, which was a clean place to pass out before continued our journey. read more

Top notch place! The attention to detail was amazing. Greeted by Tanner who had impeccable customer service skills, super sweet and attentive to my needs. The room is great size, very clean, set up with free snacks and options for various pillows to keep you comfortable. I happened to forget my phone charger so I asked front desk and they happily supplied me with one! I was floored in amazement! I would highly suggest this hotel, great price and aim to please! Can't wait for breakfast in the morning. The only thing is the vanity is very high so my kids and my short mother in-law could not reach the sink very well. Had a job interview in the morning, so I stay here for the night before. Great place indeed, clean and quiet, perfect for folks who traveled from out of town. My room was non-carpet flooring, so that is a huge plus from me. The staffs that checked us in and out were extremely courteous. I wish I could stay a little bit longer to enjoy it more. I was really happy with this hotel, It was spotless, the sheet were changed daily and really fitted to the bed so they didn't pull loose. I don't think I have ever slept on a bed in a hotel that was as comfortable as the king size in our room. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars was because the breakfast left a lot to be desired. We have stayed here several times a year for the last few years. It is usually very nice and we are happy with the accommodations. This last visit was very disappointing. Furniture in the room appears beat up and worn out although this motel is relatively new. We had issues with the other appliances witnin the room and the staff didn't seem to be in any hurry to fix the problems. We will no longer stay here given the demise of the motel. read more

(Currently staying here. Supposed to be here until Friday but can't spend 1 more night in here.) Checked into the super 8 (5606 east 51st st, Austin, Tx. 78723). So far this has been the 2nd worst hotel check in/stay ever. The 1st being at one of Wyndham's days inns. Not the greatest publicity for the Wyndham brand. It Took me over an hour to get into a room. I was Charged an unexpected fee after fully booking my room through Expedia. Nothing was mentioned about the fees online. The 1st room I checked into had already been used. The bed was messed up, someone left pooh stains in the toilet, and there was trash in one of the receptacles. Something was wrong with the ac unit as well, as it was stuck on 85 degrees+. It was unbearable, so I had to request a different room. The 2nd room I tried to go to didn't open with the key card. I walked up and down the stairs a total of 3 times before I got the door open. Every time I came down, the lady behind the desk got angrier at me as if the whole thing was my fault. The whole time, I'm in a deep sweat from lugging all of my things. Once I got into the room, I realized that the elevator was right behind my tv wall. There was noise and foot traffic the whole night, which kept me up. So many things wrong with this hotel, from itching all night from the sheets, and the filthiness of the place in general. BEWARE of this place! Don't stay here. I asked to be switched to a different room and they refused. Not happy. Unfortunately, I've already paid for the room and will loose out on money. I don't expect things to change. 2nd (live) bug we have found in the past couple of days (see video). There was another one (dead) at our door. The first room smelled very strongly of smoke which someone tried covered up with a spray - we asked for a change immediately. In the second room the lights keep flickering, the ac clicks/dings when it starts for about a minute, the room has a stale smells (we think its the carpet), there is almost no water coming out from the sink and practically 0 shower pressure (we are skipping the shower because you basically cant wash off any soap/shampoo). The bed spread had stains on it. On the up side - the bed is actually very comfy. The lobby is nice and the woman in the front is very nice and friendly. The fact that you get pre-charged (not a hold, an actual charge) $100 which is later returned (not mentioned anywhere/on hotels.com) is also upsetting. The wifi drops out every 10-15 minutes and when it works it's almost unusable. Overall, we are very disappointed. Sorry, but we cannot recommend this place. STAY AWAY!!!! This is a filthy, bug-infested, crack-whore hotel. We arrived around 8PM on Friday night only to find maids in our room pouring a bottle of bleach/chlorox over the floor/carpet. We had to open a window (which had no screens) to be able to sleep/breathe. On Saturday night, we we got back to the hotel around 9PM and our room had not been cleaned. The desk clerk upgraded us to a so-called "suite" that looked clean, but anyone who sat on the couch ended up with bug bites all over them. Several times during our stay, police cars were blocking the driveway and the police were questioning several suspicious-looking people. To top it off, someone at the hotel changed the rates that had been confirmed by Booking.com, after the fact, and according to Booking.com, the hotel is not cooperating with their dispute resolution team. read more
