I'm not from Atlanta but was in town for a wedding. I scheduled my appointment for the morning of the wedding through Style Seat and tried to schedule with enough time to spare in case of any issues. I'm glad I did that because Karmen ended up running behind but informed me in advance and kept me updated up until my adjusted time. I asked for a simple Halo Braid with some gold hardware and it turned out beautiful. I liked that she asked me about my hair regimen and potential issues so she could adjust accordingly. I had specifically picked her because I normally wear my hair natural, and wanted someone who cared about their clients hair health. I really enjoyed talking to her and her good energy made the appointment fun. I wish I had taken more close up pictures of my hair, but I got so many compliments on it. I found Super Dope Hair Studio my first time using Styleseat! I must say that I was very impressed! Karmen was very welcoming and kind when I walked into her shop! She made me feel very comfortable and we chatted like we were old friends. I explained to Karmen the style that I wanted and.. "Boom"...that is exactly what I got! Sadly, I cannot say that I had a good experience with Karmen. She did a great job on my twists but then cancelled on me literally an hour before my appointment to have the perimeter re-twisted (which I booked on StyleSeat per her requirements and confirmed with her the day of the appointment) - despite me telling her that I had ALREADY taken the twists out around the perimeter so I couldn't cancel. Her response was that the scheduling issue was between me and Style Seat and "had nothing to do with her". She said her prior client was running behind and she "had finally learned to put herself first" so she would not stay in the salon to take my scheduled appt. I have never had an experience like that with a stylist and the worst part is that she didn't seem to care about the position it put me in (I had to work the next day and was scrambling at 6:30pm to try to find someone who could do my hair last minute on a Tuesday evening)....worse she didn't even care that she was losing a good client. I ended up having to take all of the twists out 6 weeks earlier than I planned because I couldn't find anyone to re-twist them at the last minute. Waste of money. While she does good work, the low level of professionalism is not worth the risk. read more

Day: Tuesday 4pm Parking: There is a parking area in front of the salon. It is a bit uneven but you can make it work! Wait time: Well, since I scheduled my appointment using https://www.styleseat.com/v/superdopekarmen there wasn't an overlapping client issue. Salon and such: Okay! Let's get into it! The actual building is a mini maze so just ask someone where Karmen is or just look for lucky door #5. What I can say is that Karmen is a breath of fresh air, professional and she will engage in conversation with you. As the afrobeats along with musical stylings of Erykah Badu played I could tell that she moved fairly quickly. However, I did have to pay a "thickness" fee which I've never really heard of before. I do have thick hair which can slow some people down but hey I was already in the chair. I loved the fact that when her phone rang off the hook she made it a point to answer the person as well as let them know she was with a client. Makes you feel as if your time is as valuable as hers. I'm just now leaving my hair appointment which was at 1145 am . She didn't start on my hair until almost two hours later . She did give a heads up she was running behind like 30 mins but it was actually longer than that. Once I showed up she started talking negatively about Chicago and the people there coming off really aggressive and inappropriate . KARMEN kept getting easily distracted and while watching a video on YouTube she made a racist remark towards a Hispanic woman on YouTube telling her to "go make tacos" and thought that was funny . I was shocked and embarrassed. As she finishes up my hair FINALLY , she proceeds to ask me to pay. I asked what was the price just to see if she would offer some type of discount for the inconvenience, she stated she only started late because her first two clients were late . That has nothing to do with me . She proceeded to say she felt her "service" didn't reflect the time she started on my head , but I end up being there later than expected . Long story short , she's all about a pretty penny and not customer service and She's very unprofessional . I wouldn't recommend her AT ALL . read more

Karmen has blessed hands!!! I first found Karmen on craigs list! I was searching braids and came across her page. I booked an appt for waist length box braids, and from the time I got to my appt from when she was done I got nothing but professionalism! !!!!!!! She was so kind through out the entire process! She gave me great instructions on how to care for my braids, as well as caring for my own natural hair! ! That was 3 years ago and I am still to this day a dedicated client of hers!!!!! Her personality is so humble I can talk to her about anything! I have not only found an amazing stylist but a good friend as well!!!!! She doesn't braider tight to where she pulls out my edges her goal is to maintain healthy edges without alot of stress on them. I had high hopes for my Marley twists appt with Karmen after booking on Style Seat. On the day I arrived I didn't have enough packs of hair according to her methods although it was how much I had used in the past. She wouldn't do it and told me to come back the next day with 4 additional packs explaining her method would be more protective of my hair and the twists would be longer and be more versatile. I did show her pictures of how I had them in the past and how I wanted them done based on a friend's picture. The next day I checked the twists while in the bathroom and mentioned the ones on the side and starting in the front were way too short. She convinced me it would be a "layered look". She did complete the twists in less than 4 hours but I was confused since she only used 3 1/2 packs of hair after having me cancel my appointment the previous day and come back with 4 additional packs for a total of 7 packs. I realized after leaving the salon it was because she did very big parts in the top and back so there is a lot of scalp showing and the twists are shorter than in the pictures so I can barely get them in a ponytail in the back or the side. Not what we had discussed. There are also pieces of synthetic hair sticking out from the twists that most Braiders trim off so they don't look messy. I texted Karmen about all this and she never responded. I assume since she received her payment. That is the most disappointing part. I paid and gave a tip based on her rescheduling me so I could buy more hair based on her recommendations but then she didn't do the job she said she would and didn't respond to my feedback. read more
