If you are looking for a large produce selection, you've found it. Regular, oriental and mexican varieties can all be found here. Cheap meats also if you look at the sale items, just make sure you know your grades of meat. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a sparkling clean looking store, don't stop here. If you are looking for friendliness, look somewhere else. But the prices on most items here will beat the large chain stores. I've been going here for years. Meat, fruit & vegetables are far cheaper with way more selection than anywhere else. Fantastic prices if you watch sales and look at prices. Today 8 lbs nice potatoes $2. Very nice chicken legs $.49 per pound. I've bought them for many years. Deli salads $1 a pound. Fabulous Bulgarian feta $3 a pound. Etc. place is a little worn, but not dirty. Absolutely certain the reviewers who saw mice and flies were planted by a competitor. Live in Lake Bluff and make long drive every 2 weeks. read more

Let me say that first, we've been shopping here for almost 2 years. We picked Super Fresh over Lewis because of the prices and sales on stuff we need between bulk shopping trips at Sams/Costco/Woodmans. It's close and cheap. But now, all that has changed. When I went in last weekend, the carts had been replaced and I now needed a quarter to use one. I never carry cash on me, especially coins. I said whatever and grabbed a basket since it was a quick trip. My husband and I browsed the produce and I was picking up some peaches when an employee walked by, picked a pear up off the floor and threw it back on the display. Yuck! I still wash all my produce but just gross and bad business practices! Also, cashiers tend to just do their job. I've only had one cashier actually try to have a conversation with me! Don't know if there's a language barrier, or just rudeness. But this all put me over the edge. Guess I won't be shopping here anymore! read more

Well "market" is a slight misnomer as this is a large grocery store. The reason to come here is the produce selection, especially for any items in Mexican cooking as they are very fresh and cheap. I have gotten 10 limes for $1 at this place and not the rock hard, no juice ones like you get at Jewel these have as much juice as a lemon. Also avacados and jalapenos are very cheap, think 2:1 and 5:1 ratios respectively. Well the whole produce department is great to the point where I no longer get produce from Jewel I make a second stop here. The meat and fish department is very good especially when looking for unusual cuts or species. The deli is large and has a Mexican section, it is good enough that they have a small seating area (well OK some plastic tables and chairs) but the food is very good to the point where you can eat lunch or dinner here while shopping. The rest of the store has a good selection however it pays to still shop at Jewel as they still have better sales on pantry products and bread. The liquor department is small and not that great. This is the best grocery store in the area after Woodmans in Kenosha, which covers a wide area. read more

This is actually a pretty solid grocery store on the slightly shady part of town. They usually have really good deals on both produce and meat - so make sure that you check the ads, but also make sure you check the quality of the meat and the packaging. The produce section is very large - almost as large as Valli Produce or Joe Caputo's if you're familiar with those in the suburbs, and the prices are a lot better than Jewel, Dominick's and even Mariano's. The place could use a good scrubbing, and when you grab milk, make sure you pull a few out of the case and get one further in - they were a little too warm for my comfort level. The staff here are not very helpful, polite, or fast - but then again, you're not really paying for that either. You have to use a quarter to use a shopping cart - just like Aldi's, which coincidentally shares the lot. Between Aldi's and the Super Fresh, you can stock your pantry and for relatively cheap. read more

Worst store in the area, the women in the deli are horrible and apparently think everyone that goes there only speaks Spanish, they skip numbers and then act stupid. The woman with the fake blonde hair constantly mean mugs and will say smart comments in Spanish thinking you can't understand her simple sentences. The. Worst. I've given this place several tries. Several. Always dusty/dirty. Fresh fruits and vegetables are typically (clearly) too bruised, freezer burned, or moldy. Other food with expiration dates are too close to expiring. Tried some of the hot food before, was awful. Maybe due to it sitting out for who knows how long. Refrigerated food is always too warm. Frozen section is a joke. Have gotten a few items and have been spoiled. Bought frozen pizzas, turns out they were spoiled. Tried to return them, they almost didn't return after almost 2 hours at customer service waiting for the one associate handling a long line and a frozen department manager that never showed up to approve the return. The frozen department manager never came after being called on the intercom 10 or more times. Instead of waiting for the frozen department manager any longer, I decided to go find the floor manager on duty myself. I told the manager on duty that they should really think about what they're doing; selling spoiled pizzas. Not just for me as one customer, but other customers that might buy them. No response was given to me. Nothing that indicated that they would pull the spoiled food off their shelves. This item was on their weekly flyer ad. Not one apology for the wait, or the inconvenience, or any remorse from any of the employees. Never will I set foot in there again. This place has good produce but the staff are extremely rude. The food at the main deli is horrible. The food at the juice bar is actually extremely authentic and delicious and cheap but one of the girls that works there is very lazy and rudely ignores customers waiting at the counter. The boss at the juice bar is awesome but when she is not there the one girl ignores customers. It is why I stopped going there. read more

Salsa, ceviche, and guacamole are horrible! Complete waste of my money. Wide variety of everything but I found the prices at Lewis were cheaper. SPOILED papaya! My father and I went to store today and found not 1..not 2...LMFAO not even 3! BUT OVER 10 spoiled papayas on their shelves. This place has mice all over. The bread and chips always have mice holes in them. Just walking in the store you get the smell of mice urine.

About once every six months, I make the stupid decision to give this place another try and I always leave so disappointed and fed up that I need to write this review just to remind myself in another six months, IT'S NOT WORTH IT! This is literally one of the trashiest stores in Waukegan. First off, having to pay for a cart always puts me in a terrible mood, but I guess I get it; this is the ghetto of Waukegan and it is, after all, next door to the Aldi where the bums linger outside the door and try to take your cart from you for the free quarter. Maybe just have free carts so I DON'T have to worry about getting shanked in the parking lot? Oh well, not paying for a cart, I'll just grab a basket instead. NOPE. No baskets. If you're one of the unfortunates like me who keeps your quarters quarantined at home for laundry use and doesn't want to waste them on a cart, then get ready to spend the next forty minutes carrying around a bunch of awkward groceries like an idiot. There are a bunch of cheesy little stores inside the actual market, but all of them are pretty sub-par. Produce area is pretty vast, but hard to navigate. Meat and fish counters are (predictably) grimy and smell awful. Bakery is (predictably) sub-par and looks dirty. Deli area has a bunch of stuff, but I usually don't get to try anything because by the time I've made it this far (1/4 of the way into the store), I can't carry any more stuff because NO BASKETS. I have, however, tried their guacamole and it's awful. After you emerge from the deli, you enter a complete hodgepodge of a supermarket with huge aisles filled with randomly-sorted international products with very little coherent pattern. I actually came back to this store a few times because once, I found a Chinese ginger here that I quite liked, but what a shocker: upon return visits, it was nowhere to be found. When you finally stagger up to the crowded checkout lanes, get ready to be rung up by one of several surly and apathetic women who will usually walk away in the middle of tending customers, check her phone, start gossiping with a neighboring cashier, etc, all before flinging your precious cargo that you've been lugging around the store like a sherpa for the past hour and a half into the carousel of cheap plastic bags. And then you'll probably get shot in the parking lot. Honestly. It's just a terrible experience all around. I'd actually recommend going to Lewis Produce on Grand before coming to this circus. read more

This place has inexpensive fruits and vegetables which is really nice. Other than that the groceries are really expensive, though it did have a pretty good selection of items with it being a neighborhood store. i had two very different experiences with service while in this establishment. While i was on the floor i was clearly having trouble and an employee stood next to me for a long time without saying anything, when i finally asked a question he answered it but as if i were a bother to him. Then there was the man at the checkout, he was a joy. I watched his interactions with the older lady and he was sweet and attentive and asked her noninvasive questions which you could see visably made her day better. When he got to me he was just as attentive and nice. He made what started as 2 star visit much better. I would say the place needs to be better priced and the signage, atmosphere and set up needs help. I would probably get fruits and veggies here and do the rest of my shopping elsewhere read more

I am a big fan of this big store. I am Puerto Rican and it is hard to find foods that I use or have eaten since I was a little boy. This place has a variety of international foods which I tend to love. I would give this place a five star but I always seem to have problems with the same cashier and sometimes when I need something the employees lack to help out. We love going here because the selection and prices are great. It's a bit low brow and tends to attract degenerates and scum of the earth people. If I need to get the basics for a somewhat sophisticated dish Ill start here. The Meat selections are fantastic, seafood is limited but on occasion we get our hands on some great Mahi Mahi. I have been shopping at this store for 8 years now and have come to learn HOW TO SHOP THERE. But on occasions, even that does not work. I am a very careful shopper and have no limitations on areas I will shop from WI to IN to farms even home grown, etc. This is never my choice for fresh meats because, oftentimes, particularly holiday meats, you MUST COOK THEM THE SAME DAY or freeze them quickly! Though I was told about this issue 8 years ago by others who I had conversations on that is where I shop not to shop there and gave me other alternatives, I am a person to take that information and evaluate MY OWN EXPERIENCES, which is what happened. So combined those conscious decisions were made about my choices of purchases in this store. When chicken breasts are on sale, my major purchase takes place as I purchase anywhere for 20 to 40 lbs since that is a major part of my diet. Sometimes all of them are grilled immediately, this time I went to grill them after 1 day in my frig that is very cold and even freezes product. Today I go to season them and the hideously foul smell is eroding from my frig. I know what it is because chicken has it's own special smell, like fish, if it is bad. So I call the store to tell them what happened. Some of the people in this store don't speak English, some limited and some fluid. I ask for someone who speaks very good English to ensure they knew what I was saying as well as a manager. I tell the manager I usually keep all my receipts except this one had chicken spillings on it, so I was not about to keep that, but I do have my credit card I purchased it with. I further asked that because I have to drive 10 miles to get there, I would like for them to replace my packages at value and add another package, which mind you would be just under $3, for another trip not to mention I have to take my entire refrigerator apart and clean it, which is another 3 hr job. My thought is that it is more than fair when weighing options in comparison to the loss of a loyal customer, a complaint to the health inspector, which they will get both, and finally, a customer can be your best or WORST form of advertisement, contingent on how a problem is handled. Personally, my intent will always be when one remembers the experience, it becomes secondary to the resolution. In my works in corporate America, there have been many major blunders that lead CEOs and Presidents to call upon me to handle these situations always entrusting me with full range of what I needed to do to fix the problem, because I am customer friendly as well as loyal to my employer, and you need both to handle customer service effectively. In addition, the manager acted as if he were the one who purchased bad meat, instead of me. Further aggravating an already challenging situation. He was clearly irritated that I asked for the extra pack, started talking fast and firm, which leads me now to go retrieve the receipt from the outdoor trash and take it to him. When asked for the name of the owner, was told he did not have to give me that information, as if that is not public record, and became more irritated. Resolving situations on the lowest level would definitely be the way to go so as a mole hill won't have the ABILITY to be turned into a mountain, yet, a mountain has the ability to be turned into a mole hill. So I just wanted others to know, in their experiences with this store, and out of consideration to what you eat you will become, if you eat spoiled foods, your insides will be spoiled NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SITUATIONS IS, YOU ALWAYS HAVE OTHER OPTIONS! I bought a pork roast at this store on Sunday May 1, 2011 (the date on the package was good until 5/6/2011), on Monday May 2, 2011 I opened the pork roast to cook it and it was spoiled. I called the store and spoke to the manager (didn't get his name) and he told me even though I had the original packaging still on the roast, without a receipt they wouldn't exchange or give the money back. I didn't want money back I wanted a new roast and I asked him if he was willing to loose my business because of this and he said it didn't matter. As far as I'm concerned I will never shop at this store again, they have lost a good customer, we would spend at least $100.00 a week on meat at this store. read more
