The 5 star ratings are for the Amazing taco deals They give you plenty of meat and vegetables and it cost only $2.50 Per taco which is a great deal. The rest of the grocery is 4 four stars because the prices are a bit high for the vegetables and fruit. So enjoy the food portion area where you can get fresh food made and you can eat it there with tables and a TV and there's also a bathroom. Plenty of parking that's free in the lot. read more

It's a nice grocery store that offers anything you could ever need. They have a Juice bar a small restaurant and drip & culture is also in there. The staff is all very attentive and helpful. The restaurant is AMAZING. I can not recommend the arrachera tacos enough. Also their quesadilla with handmade tortillas are heavenly. read more

I was actually very unimpressed the first time I came. Although the price per taco is very cheap compared to everyone else in the city, I still felt cheated. @ $1.50 a taco, I ordered 2 tacos de al pastor and 2 de Asada. The al pastor tasted somewhat decent. Not the greatest in the world. But probably wouldn't order them again. However the tacos de Asada were the biggest disappointment. After watching the episode on Chicago's Best, the "Carne Asada" tacos were made from arrachera (skirt steak). They definitely weren't. They were made out of just cheap taco meat. Nonetheless, I was let down by this place. Huge disappointment! I returned a few days later, and I asked if they had arrachera tacos. They did! And they came with some very tasty hand made tortillas. There meat was perfectly grilled, with delicious flavors. This will probably be the only place I check out whenever I'm in Waukegan, but I'm glad I decided to give this place a second chance. read more

Just went there for the first time today and it literally exceeded all of the expectations I thought I had. Everyone was SO nice and smiley, everything was super clean, well decorated. It was like a traditional Mexican grocery store with modern touches and design which was cool to see--you can tell that it truly is a family business and everyone one in the family put their ideas and touch into the store. The tacos were amazing so the coffee bar in the back is next on the list to try. Hope to become a regular! read more

Best tacos & burritos I have ate in Waukegan hands down. On the weekends it is pretty packed in there but reasonable considering the greatness they have going on. Seen on Chicago's Best and thankful I did. I notice alot of the people buy the cooked pork and grab a bag of the premade masa (I think it is) from the buther area to make there own at home. I asked a guy one day and thats what he said he does. Fresh tortilla shells and fresh meat has gotta be a hit beacuse they sell alot while you are in line. Great Market for all the Mexican products you could need. The Deli/Restaurant portion of the store is a hidden gem! Definitely wish I brought cash to tip for the excellent meal! But definitely will upon my return in the near future.Freshly grilled steak and handmade tortillas for really cheap prices. Best tacos I've had in a very long time! Plus the staff were very kind. I stopped by early Saturday morning and got a pack of their freshly made tamales. I wasn't disappointed at all. Not sure how bad they used to be (according to the two reviews on here) but the ones I got was pretty good! they usually sell out towards noon. These were not as spicy as the others that I have had before from diff places. It's just a tad bit on the salty side for me, other than that, it was fresh, hot and well cooked. A LOT better than the ones they sell at Lewis fresh. read more

Gonzalez is a clean business. Always picked up and orderly. No gross stuff behind the deli counter. However, their cashiers could limit themselves to ringing up customers' orders instead of sharing their personal stories across the aisle. Please. But let me get to why I felt inclined to Yelp my review for this establishment: Prepared food complaint/review: My mom was there today and picked up some of their tamales and flautas to bring to my house today. Boy was I disappointed! Let me start with the flautas: They were dry, overcooked and bland. Enough said. But the tamales were just a joke: Flavor was "ok", but it's the size of the tamal that took the prize. In my mom's words: "They're the size of stuffed ravioli!" Seriously, the people they have making the tamales should at least make the effort to make them appear a little bigger. They're not cheap. $14 a dozen! So, if you're gonna charge more than a $1 for a tamal, make it worth the price. Just saying. So, my mom is not buying flautas or tamales again. There's no shortage of places selling tamales in Waukegan, so we'll be fine, but man, how disappointing. I didn't expect this from Gonzalez. read more

I would always see this grocery store on my way home and never thought anything of it until I went in this Sunday afternoon and seen the amazing specials they have! Well respected workers, I came across a young man who knew what he was talking about when I asked him a couple of questions about food items. Staff works hard and have great conversation with almost every customer, it just felt so welcoming. Will definitely be going back and let my friends and family know about this store. This used to be the place to go when there wasn't much competition. I remember going with my mom on Saturdays waiting behind the meat counter to be called for our number. Workers were rude, cut the meat as they wanted (not as you ordered). Cashiers were rude always having their personal conversations without even acknowledging the customer. Then more Hispanic grocery stores opened in Waukegan, and we stopped going there due to the horrible service. We have gone back a couple times since and it isn't as busy as it once was. The customers got tired of the horrible service and go to other grocery stores in the area that care about the customers and treat them right. If you are looking for a Hispanic grocery store go elsewhere, in Waukegan there is one on just about every street. read more

Gonzalez super Mercado has the best tacos, the steak taco is very tasty with generous portion of meat, fresh cilantro. I like it better than Tacos el Norte and Lewis produce. Chicken tacos we're delicious with the right spice. read more
