    Steak burrito

Got the steak burrito there definitely plenty in this thing next time I'll skip the rice

Pastor on the left, and Asada on right. Order arrachera not Asada.

I was actually very unimpressed the first time I came. Although the price per taco is very cheap compared to everyone else in the city, I still felt cheated. @ $1.50 a taco, I ordered 2 tacos de al pastor and 2 de Asada. The al pastor tasted somewhat decent. Not the greatest in the world. But probably wouldn't order them again. However the tacos de Asada were the biggest disappointment. After watching the episode on Chicago's Best, the "Carne Asada" tacos were made from arrachera (skirt steak). They definitely weren't. They were made out of just cheap taco meat. Nonetheless, I was let down by this place. Huge disappointment! I returned a few days later, and I asked if they had arrachera tacos. They did! And they came with some very tasty hand made tortillas. There meat was perfectly grilled, with delicious flavors. This will probably be the only place I check out whenever I'm in Waukegan, but I'm glad I decided to give this place a second chance.

Great Market for all the Mexican products you could need. The Deli/Restaurant portion of the store is a hidden gem! Definitely wish I brought cash to tip for the excellent meal! But definitely will upon my return in the near future.Freshly grilled steak and handmade tortillas for really cheap prices. Best tacos I've had in a very long time! Plus the staff were very kind. You just order your food at the deli, pay the Grocery cashier at the front then return with your receipt to pick up delicious taco-goodness! Simple. Enjoy!

Red tamales! A little salty for me but delicious! 12 for $9

I stopped by early Saturday morning and got a pack of their freshly made tamales. I wasn't disappointed at all. Not sure how bad they used to be (according to the two reviews on here) but the ones I got was pretty good! they usually sell out towards noon. These were not as spicy as the others that I have had before from diff places. It's just a tad bit on the salty side for me, other than that, it was fresh, hot and well cooked. A LOT better than the ones they sell at Lewis fresh.

the miniscule tamales. My hand on the left, my 7-year old's hand on the right.

Lewis Fresh Market certainly isn't one of those cramped little stores. Has a lot of produce and other items. The prices aren't the best but they're pretty comparable to other places. Best thing is the produce because it's all fresh. It's comparable to the Cermak Fresh Markets. There's a lot of Mexican and other Latino stuff in here along with some other countries too. Has quite a lot to go through so you can find many good items. There's a grill to order tacos and tortas. Also there's a hot bar and salad bar. Other popular areas include the bakery where they cut fresh loaves. Has even more produce outside, especially when they have pumpkins in autumn. The prices are okay for being fresh. For sure we could go here again if in the area. It's got a couple locations, including this one on Grand. The produce is considered to be the best stuff.

Something I do at all ethnic grocers. There's no organic vegetables available and there is a popular bakery which I did not patronize. Not a place to drive to but interesting to pick up some Mexican while in the area. I liked my carnitas by the pound & threw the spinach pies & cooked chicken in the freezer for those busy days.

It may be most notable for the popular butcher section but there's also produce. Has cheap prices on many items. They prefer cash so bring some of that. A small store but it has a lot. It's not as much to choose from as the big chain groceries but there's quite a few finds. The most popular part is the butcher to get fresh meats. Basically that's the area at the entrance. If you prefer things not from animals there's plenty more in the store. Has alcohol. Last time I found a can of Crazy Cowboy for $1.99, and there's other cheap beers too. As for the produce it's not great but it's cheap. It's about $2 to get a few oranges. A few other good things in here. They only have a couple checkout aisles, and they prefer cash but that's not required. For sure it's an important local business. It's a lot better than going to some corporate chain. They're closed Sundays.

I brought some to a family vacation in Michigan and everyone said they were outstanding! Forget the Big Brand name brats and support the local mom and pop joints. My freezer was packed with them all summer. The sub sandwich was also one of the best, with fresh sliced meats and cheeses and veggies. It never made it out of the parking lot. All I wanted to do was try half of it but I couldn't stop eating it until there was no more. I also tried the stuffed pork chops that are huge and tasty.
