Deeply frustrated. No trainers on staff in their middle age. Trained with a nice enough staff member who I told I didn't need leg work exercises but was looking for advice and demo for arms and core. He had me doing all kinds of squats to start and I was terrible sore for days. Very few yoga classes Decided to cancel membership and communications were very frustrating- vm inbox was full, Emailed to ask for help and the reply was that I had received how to cancel in my contract or I could come in to get a paper describing how. Finally got an email explaining the next day. The process is to send a certified letter to an address requesting cancellation!! You can't do it on premises or by phone or vía email. Then once they recieve it , it takes 31 days to process! FFS. Crazy in 2023? Certified letter! 31 days?! No one has bothered to ask about my experience or apologize for my frustration. Just wow! I have been a member before and just now restarted a membership. The gym as a whole provides ok customer service and a very wide array of classes to a much larger than average range of work out equipment. I am currently an add on to a VIP package and was before. The only thing negative about the billing I would say are the yearly Maintenance fees, gyms run on a model that expect people not to show up. With that in mind an addition maintenance fee on top of your monthly fee and your start up fee seems excessive. Aside from the bling the culture seems friendlier than most with most regular goers seeming to know each other and offer positive support. All types of physiques and commitment levels are apparent with the average being a slightly stronger person than average which means no matter your athleticism you will fit in. The only overall negative thing I can say is that the downstairs area really isn't that clean compared to many other gyms I have been a part of. This appears to be the best gym in the area in terms of attitudes and equipment/free weight variety, if you Are looking for a decent and comfortable gym to work out in SFF might be the place for you just keep in mind it isn't particularly cheap and it could be cleaner. read more

I've been reading the reviews here and felt compelled to put in a review in their defense, somewhat. Having a background in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years and running a Gold's for roughly 8, I have to say this really is not a bad gym. The club is decent, equipment is decent and working. They provide everything you need. The biggest strike against them from what I've observed is their front desk staff, but hey when you got a bunch of college kids for employees making probably minimum wage, stick them behind the front desk and the next thing you know they think they're higher than the Almighty because now they work in a gym. Little do they know they actually know very little about the industry so the work ethic is definitely questionable in my opinion. Now when I walk in to a gym my eyes are trained to look and see whether or not someone is behind that front counter because your customers should not have to wait, phones should be answered right away and they should be available when a member has a question, is there positive interaction with members, are they professional, is the equipment working, are the paper towel holders full, are the spray bottles full for members to wipe down equipment, how is the overall cleanliness, is the staff making regular rounds to check these things? Are the instructors punctual? Do they fix their equipment right away or just stick a sign on it and let it sit? Overall management of this facility doesn't seem bad at all. When I was there they seemed to be on top of things, aside from front desk not keeping up with basics. The billing is out sourced by a third party meaning they pay for someone to manage memberships. It is standard procedure for you, the customer, to provide a 30 day notice in writing. This allows for ample time to process. Return receipt is for your benefit. They should not be receiving a negative review for that. They offer a freeze on memberships so if you have a medical condition or are away you can put your membership on hold. A benefit for you that does not have to be offered but they do. Again, you have to just go through the process. If an employee says ok to you cancelling, well first of all they should not be making that call, and instead should be reiterating the policy and protocol. I experience a billing issue but they handled it in a professional manner and reimbursed me. However, I followed club protocol. Overall this gym has a good system, nice equipment, excellent classes and instructors, convenient hours, cleanliness is decent. Now if you are a member that goes during prime time hours or in the midst of, then expect that it is not going to be in prestige condition as there is a lot going on. The industry is very diverse and very fast paced. If you are new to all this and shopping for a membership I would recommend them. Just know wherever you go, if it is a legitimate, professional facility you will have an EFT membership unless you pay in full and you will have to provide a 30 day notice to terminate, even if they do not tell you this. Now that would be poor customer service. So long story short, customer service needs an overhaul here but overall, not a bad gym at all. Hope this was helpful. read more

My brother and I went to sign up and they didn't even tell us about the $10/month plan until I almost walked out because $40/month was too expensive DESPITE repeatedly asking about a lower-cost plan. At this point my brother had signed up for the $40/month plan only minutes earlier, so they had already gotten another victim. Then they hid an "annual" fee of over $50 in the contract, and it's $100 to cancel your contract. It's run by scummy people. Your dollars are better spent elsewhere. read more

The trainers in this gym run on a very aggressive business model. It is a year contract and you cannot opt out unless you move away from the area. I saw the tiny letters in the contract that said I could cancel my subscription within 3 days of having signed it. So I did. I had to send a letter of cancellation out to the headquarters somewhere in North Carolina and never got a confirmation back of my cancellation nor a refund. The trainers company now is saying that they never received my letter and continue to harass me with charging. The trainers in the gym are run by a company named Top Notch which is separate from the gym and they are the worse in terms of binding you into an agreement that is not flexible at all. I sent my cancellation letter in a month and 1/2 in advance so they had it for there 30 day notice and added to the letter that my membership does end till the 15th of the month and they cancelled it on the 1st. I ask for my money back since I was paid till then and no one got back to me. I gave 1 star because the men at the counter were nice and helpful. I sent a letter and apparently SSF never got it so now it's my fault and I have a huge balance to pay within a week. I love hitting the gym. I thoroughly enjoyed this gym until I had to cancel my membership. Counter staff was always mediocre at best. Not a big deal until you need to communicate with them. Told them to cancel my membership in person... Whoever I spoke to said ok. 1yr. Later they had still been pulling money out of my account. I called because they are about a hour from where I live. Counter person answered and said I should send a letter to cancel my membership. I complained to him about it and he put someone else on the phone who said that they were sorry for the inconvenience and that they would take care of it. Another year and they are still withdrawing. Just called up. Got some punk on the phone. Explained to him that this had already been settled. He said well your membership is going to continue until you send a letter. I said well what if I simply come to the counter and cancel (like I had before). He said no. Only a letter will do. So I said Ok then I will bring you a letter. He said no, we can not accept that. I said ok I will drop it off in your mailbox. He said that cant happen because they get their mail DELIVERED to the counter...... Like WHAT! WHAT!? ASKED FOR A MANAGER AND HE SAID THERE ISNT ONE. I said when will one be in, he said 4..... I asked for a name. He said Mike. I said last name (mainly because Mike was his name). Didnt want to give it. Understandable, but I was slightly infuriated and so I pressed on (no cussing, name calling, or anything to cause for concern). He hung up on me. I called back asked for the name again, then changed my mind and said Im done, and good-bye. Good gym as far as equipment. Very poor customer service. WORST GYM I'VE EVER SEEN. Trust me: stay away from this place. Not only is the facility disgusting and dirty and the equipment run down and obsolete - some of those machines are probably from the 80s - but the staff is unfriendly, disinterested, and even dishonest. And their classes are a joke. They ran the "bait and switch on me: I went in for one rate and the salesperson (Todd) talked me into the more expensive membership (which includes classes) saying that I could downgrade my membership at anytime. But when I called back to do so, the rep I talked to (Missy) said that wasn't possible, and that Todd was no longer working there. When I asked to talk to the manager, she said, "I am the manager." When I asked to talk to her boss, she said her boss was the owner. I asked her to have him call me. She said she would. He never did. I would not recommend joining this gym. I had a membership through work and then decided to get a membership myself once my work membership was up. I read reviews and most reviews warned me about joining for all the same reasons I wish I didn't. I would go before work and shower there. The showers didn't get cleaned daily if at all. I noticed this when three maybe four days in a row there was the same strand of hair left on the shower wall, untouched. I stopped going in the morning after that. I went a few times after work with a friend. There were a few machines that didn't work well. I ONLY joined this gym because it was right down the road from work and it was convenient. When I was told I was being transferred I knew I needed to cancel my membership because I would no longer be able to go. I don't live near the gym and now I no longer work near the gym. I was told I can't cancel my membership unless I was moving 25 miles or more away from the gym and if that was the case I needed to send a certified letter stating as such. I tried explaining my job situation it didn't matter. During the summer there was talk of lay offs so I inquired again about canceling due to potential job loss, they said they didn't care because I signed a contract. I agree but if I lost my job how will I pay for it?? They said that didn't matter to them. I was then given the option to buy out my plan to cancel it but was told almost in the same breathe that the fee for that was more expensive than what I would pay after finishing my year membership. THEY LITERALLY MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL!!!! Do not get a membership here. Go to planet fitness, they are so much better. Only reason they get two stars is because most of my interactions with staff were positive. read more

Whenever I come in and they're working the counter, they greet me with a smile and it's apparent that they have a good time working together. It's a good energy. Sometimes I"ll get a shake and Andre will asks me what I like, or he'll give me some options and he creates a shake like a mixologist. I've asked VW Mike questions on nutrition or exercises and he's always willing to answer whatever I have and not with any attitude. I appreciate having those two at my gym. read more

I LOVED the spinning class, which was primarily why I joined - but an injury prevented me from continuing. The counter staff was friendly unless I was interrupting their socializing. But today, turned my 3 stars to a 1 star. The gym staff either lied to me, or was too lazy to verify whether or not SFF was a Healthways participating gym. Months ago, I performed my due diligence by contacting Healthways, who suggested that I verify in person, with the gym. Which I did. Based on the "yes, absolutely (pointing at the Healthways Silver Sneakers poster behind him)", I paid my $50 to Healthways and cancelled SFF. Today, I learned that I've been paying both memberships, and the "I'm-too-busy-for-this" gal on the phone suggested that I was lying about Healthways affiliation, and that the gym had never participated. Then, snarkily, she stated that a certified letter is the only option I have, to actually cancel my membership (after telling her that I cancelled the membership in writing, upon presenting my Healthways card to the desk person.)
