I have nothing but good things to say about Super Q food truck, We hired them for an event in August for our running club, communication with Barbara was perfect before the event and during the days till the event. The food truck came before time, the gentleman working the food truck. were just so nice and so helpful, and accommodating. And to get to the best part We had about 200 people who needed to be fed. And the food was served incredibly fast I was surprised. They had vegetarian and meat options. The service was great , the food itself was just amazing and our runners left very happy and satisfied. I really wish there would be good food trucks coming by San Diego Comic Con, but I guess San Diego just doesn't have that abundance? On Saturday of Comic-Con, I came by the truck for dinner around 6PM. There was one table already eating and I was the only one ordering. Considering about 50 feet away there were ten thousand people in line - why were there only 4 people eating at the truck? I decided upon the asada fries with a side of coleslaw that came to a whopping $22 . . . I was seriously hoping this was worth it, but unfortunately, not so much. First, I totally missed that the asada fries come with wedge cut fries and not shoe string. I missed that because you don't get the option of wedge cut as a side - only shoestring. I really wish you either had the option or that they would do shoestring. Mainly because of all the cheese/sauce/salsa/meat, the potatoes become soggy and the wedge cut fries turn into mashed potatoes. I don't want to eat mashed potatoes, I want french fries! Anywho, I poured some extra sauce on the fries, and it was loaded with the sauce, jalapeños, cheese, salsa, and asada. Overall the flavor was good. Meat was seasoned well, juicy and tender. Salsa was alright, but just way too many jalapeños. The cheese was also only on the fries and pretty much disintegrated under the hot meat. The coleslaw was way too watery/liquidy from the mayo, but it being coleslaw, it still was a nice cooling bite with the bbq. Was this a $22 meal? HELL NO This is an $8 meal. Lucky for the truck, the comic-con crowds are stuck either not wanting to walk far, or stuck hoping it will be a good option. This however, is not a good option. read more

I had such a yummy lunch today which consisted of a brisket sandwich with cheddar cheese and jalapenos. The order also can with a side and I decided to try the red potato salad. The brisket was tender melt in your mouth and well seasoned. The jalapenos had a sweet taste rather than spicy which was a bit of a surprise. In addition the potato salad was really good. It tasted homemade with not to much mayonnaise and well cooked but not mushy. Basically it was perfect. The price for a sandwich was $11.00 which seemed a bit high for a food truck however if I'm going to spend this much money I will definitely spend it on Super Q. Brisket with added mac & cheese ( 50¢ extra, i believe). i enjoyed thoroughly but thought the mac&cheese was a bit bland and lacked any distinguishing cheesy flavor. not worth the extra charge and DEF not worth paying $2 for a full side. Pulled pork. good, not great...very sweet. request the slaw on the side to prevent it from getting soggy! also because its nice to control the amount desired along with the already sweet pulled pork Chicken. not sure why but this was my least favorite. 1 of 3 or all reasons: flavor was slightly strange, the bun was completely soggy due to being the last i ate, and / or i was no longer starving and realized the flavors were mediocre. that, combined with the fact that like most of these trucks, the food is around $2 too high, made it just eh. adding the mac & cheese to one brought my 3 sliders (no side) to a $10 meal. ...i am told (and witnessed by looks) that the BBQ chicken salad is awesome. i may give that a go some time in the future. read more

I live in Charlotte, so like many North Carolinians, I like to think that I know the difference between good barbecue and bad barbecue. Rule number one: Avoid chains. Got to try out Super Q at a local dealership's event. Bright green truck, you'd never miss it. The lines were long as was the wait but the staff pushed through getting orders out to the crowd. Because of the nature of the event as well as the volume of customers, the menu was limited to certain plates and sides, but the options still offered variety. We ordered the Super Q Brisket Sandwich (they were nice enough to let me sub the sourdough for Kaiser) and the Sliders Trio. The food was really rich. Mac n Cheese in a BBQ sandwich? I order 2 sliders, one with pulled pork and the other with beef brisket. My first impression was that the buns were so wrong for the sliders! My personal opinion is that a barbecue slider (or sandwich) should have been served on a softer white rolls or slider buns. The buns were more like French rolls, similar to the ones appropriately served along side, say lobster bisque, at San Diego Soup Shoppe. Buns issue aside, I took my first bite of the pulled pork slider and thought the pork was tender, and the BBQ sauce wasn't bad--but nothing to write home about. When I took my second bite, I bit on a piece of something ... inedible. It was a piece of petrified PLASTIC mixed in the pulled pork. My guess was that it was a piece of commercial plastic wrap that the truck may have used to cover up the pork, and it somehow made it into the final pulled pork mixture. So, I went up to the cashier guy at the truck and showed him that piece of plastic that I discovered in my pulled pork slider. I barely got an apology from the cashier. Also, when the cashier pointed out to the cook that there was a piece of plastic in the pulled pork, absolutely NO reaction from the cook! Not only did the cashier and cook did not seem remotely concerned that there was a piece of PLASTIC in their food, they did not offer to replace my sandwich, refund my meal, or at least give me a free drink. This food truck stops by my office and their plates fill you up so much! The food is consistently good, though I do love their sandwiches, I wish they had options of half sandwich and a salad coz the portions are a little too much for lunch. The knock out brisket was really good as well , flavorful and tender. I've tried the carne asada fries which are realllyyyy good. Also tried just a plate of half brisket- half pulled pork with a side of slaw. This is my go to order from this truck as it allows you to taste both meats! Also wish they had a couple of different rub/sauce options as they tend to feel a bit repetitive in terms of flavor when you visit the truck a couple of times. Pretty tasty BBQ, but mucho $$$. The food truck comes around my office area every Monday to feed the hungry peeps in La Jolla. The coworker brought me down to experience my first nibs. What I noticed is how expensive the food is! Since the coworker isn't able to finish the sandwich alone, I had half of the BBQ chicken sandwich ($7). I basically just ate the chicken and discarded the bun. Too much bread and plus I would have liked a toastier bun. Sides and drinks are separate. I do plan on ordering the sliders next time around. I am not a barbecue connisseur or expert but I know what I like. i like this bbq from Super Q. Sure the prices can hit the wallet pretty good if you buy a full meal. I have had the sliders and discover that one is sufficient with fries to be a full meal for me. I have had the pulled pork bbq and the brisket bbq and they are both delicious and worth the price. The small brioche bun is actually good then you can enjoy the rest of the meaty goodness. I have had the wedge fries and they come out hot and crispy. The most recent purchase I got the sweet potato fries and it was deliciously devoured quickly. They stop by my work area but with long lines and the time to walk to their spot here in UTC, it consumes most of the lunch hour so I drove over there and found prime parking spot before they arrived and got my order in quick. Quick service, they set up mini tables for everyone who decides to stay to enjoy their food. Overall, my experiences with them are pretty good. Not bad for my first BBQ truck experience. Conveniently I was having some beer at the Green Flash Brewery at the same time, so it did enhance the BBQ flavor. Pink, now that's what I'm talking about. It's unmistakable, undeniable and something you can't fake. Smoke ring is the first thing you should look for in BBQ, forget the sauce which can be used to mask or accentuate flavors. We first eat with our eyes. A nice heavy pink ring surrounds the ribs (not always on the menu, but if it is I like them better than then brisket, pork and chicken)., brisket, chicken and less so the pork. As many know pulled pork takes on less color Lets get 1 thing straight out this truck. They are eye catching with their super hero graphics and bright green colors. Most trucks go with the white, blue, red, orange, yellow motif. Oh yeah and they have a flat screen and show sports to draw people in. Some may find that strange, but I think it's genius. Sports and BBQ, heaven, now if they only sold beer I'd follow them around the country Like most BBQ trucks they offer brisket, pulled pork, but they also offer chicken and sometimes ribs. Their sauce has some tang and some sweetness, probably closer to KC style than anything else. The middle of the road sauce goes well on everything, I prefer more vinegar mop to my pulled pork sauce, but it's pretty good, none the less. The sides are very good, 3 cheese mac, slaw is crisp and traditional. The thing that also stands apart is they offer bbq sliders, fulled loaded with slaw and/or mac and they offer all meats. So if you ask nicely you can get 1 of each with slaw and mac on top. All I'd need is some gravy and white bread. Probably the best and most complete BBQ truck in San Diego. Stopped by this truck at the Vegas Foodie Fest last weekend- though there were several barbecue trucks selling similar items, the staff here actually stepped out of the vehicle to interact with passersby and talk about their product. Their meat is smoked for 13 hours, and their melts are among their most popular items. Being from Texas, I had to opt for the brisket version- order came with a side, for which I selected the potato salad. Order was out quickly, truck accepted cards when most were sticking to cash-only but I really appreciated it as I was down to my few final bills. The guys also packed it up to-go for me, as I was headed out of the event. The brisket melt itself was a heavy and man-sized sandwich. The brisket was cooked well but not as fatty and flavorful as I like it- still very good. Now the mac on the sandwich was lacking. I found it a little underflavored and dry, and the cheese taste came more from the additional slices on the sandwich rather than the pasta. Overall I think pasta on a sandwich is something I can do without. But goddamn do they know what they're doing with barbecue sauce! Got some extra cups of sauce from the side of the truck prior to leaving, and I am so glad I did- some of the best I've had outside of the Lone Star state. read more

My friend and I came to the Monthly Mobile Food Gathering with a shared hankering for mac and cheese AND grilled cheese sandwich so when we realized that Super Q Food Truck had a mac and cheese sandwich with the option of adding either pulled pork, beef brisket, or chix, we knew it'd be an efficient way to get our mac & cheese and grilled cheese sandwich fix! We always order the sweet potato fries, which come with a side of chipotle ranch. I might be kind of biased here, but these are freakin fantastic. They taste exactly like the sweet potato fries at the pub up in UCI (which happen to be my absolute fave), which is why I think I adore them so much. Prices aren't too ridic either, since some food trucks can be sometimes.. and they answer you if you tweet them a question haha. Wait times haven't been too bad, at least during pre- or post-peak times at Green Flash, so I can't complain too much there. Whatever, just try it if you spot it. Awesome. Just plain fricken awesome. Whenever a food truck is posted up near my workplace, (which to my delight, is quite often) I try to head out and see if I can get a taste of what everyone raves about. This time, it was Super Q, and the obvious choice for me was the Brisket Melt. The wait was pretty normal (about 10 min), and my huge sandwich was ready for consumption, nice and hot. The brisket was grilled to perfection and tasty goodness. Whoever thought of putting mac & cheese in there was a genius! The two work well on a plate, so why not put them between two nicely grilled sourdough slices? The onions add a nice texture to the whole thing, even though they fall apart right away. Beware! This dish will get messy, and if you're not careful, you're going to have a slobber of onions, meat, and macaroni on your pants. The only suggestion I would have is to put more cheese in the sandwich. When I was eating it, the macaroni was a bit bland to me. Another slice or two of cheese would definitely help. read more

Overpriced for slow cooked pork with mac and cheese within two slices of bread. Only went here to "socialize" and eat with coworkers but this would not be a personal choice to eat here. Felt pretty gross after eating here. $9 for a greasy sandwich is not worth it. Rather go to Device Pastabilities and pay less and get much more in portion. read more

All I can say is...."AHHHHH-MAZING" Just get one of the Super Q melts and you can't go wrong. These melts some in Pulled pork, beef brisket or pulled chicken and piled on a sourdough slice and topped with mac-n-cheese!! All in a samich!!! I had the brisket and it was delish!! Pros: - They park by my work every week! - Their brisket melts are something to behold by oneself! - The truck is green and hard to miss! Cons: - Lines can get long. I freaking love food trucks. Seriously. They are so much fun. I tried Super Q for the first time on Friday. Right after our morning break at work, the heady scent of sweet and tangy BBQ sauce filled the air. People were wandering around with these insane concoctions of BBQ brisket, mac and cheese, sourdough, and big ol' slice of cheddar to finish her off. "I have to try that!" I declared, getting weird looks from my coworkers. Unfortunately, Super Q had already moved on -- although just a few blocks. I walked over in my sad little flip-flops (blistering my poor feet in the process), and proceeded to stop my heart up with greasy goodness. I went with the BBQ Pulled Pork melt, and wow, it was a punch to the face (in a good way). The BBQ sauce was sweet and smoky, just the way I like it, and I loved the crisp sourdough. There were a few things left to be desired... my coworker's sandwich ended up a little soggy (although mine was nicely crisp), and the mac and cheese seemed a little bland when paired up with such aggressive BBQ sauce. It's also a touch expensive compared to mom and pop shops in the area, but it's in line with prices in the nearby food court (and much more delicious). The pulled pork was very flavorful and nicely tender. This truck is a great addition to the Sorrento Valley area, and I think there's a huge market for them here (I'm a meat-eating savage and so are most of the other people in my work group ^_^). I experienced the Super Q Food truck for the first time this weekend at the San Diego Spirits Festival downtown. I had the opportunity to sample a few different things off their truck and I made sure that I took full advantage of the situation. The truck is has vibrant colors and their menu is presented well with full descriptions of what they have to offer the public. Overall, their presentation is well done and enticing. When it comes to their food, I wasn't wholly impressed. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it provided a lot of bbq sauce and mess with the amount of meat given. Don't get me wrong, it was quite tasty, but if you don't like BBQ soaked meat/bun, then this isn't up your alley. They top it with coleslaw, which is quite tasty and all, but I wish I could taste more meat overall. After I polished off the sandwich, I also tasted two of the sliders (chicken & brisket). The chicken slider had too many/much sweet onion flavor. I like onions overall however their flavor was too overbearing for the mini slider. The meat tasted like onions, the bun like onions and the onions like onions. I didn't enjoy the bun in any way. It didn't have the appropriate flavor to compliment the chicken/sweet onion mixture. As for the brisket, it was all right, however it lacked moisture and flavor. It was rather dry, regardless of the exhuberant amout of bbq sauce loaded on top of it. The bun used with the brisket worked better than the chicken/bun pairing and I would suggest it over the chicken, but I would definitely suggest the pork over them all. I don't dislike greatly what these guys have going on, however I wasn't completely wow'd by any means. read more

Ate at this truck for the Las Vegas foodie fest at the Silverton casino. Had the Super Q pulled pork sandwich with mac n cheese. Very tasty pulled pork, mac and cheese with cooked onions was very tasty, the only thing I didn't like was that the sourdough bread was just super hard. It was just one step above crunchy in which my palate of my mouth was sore. Next time I will have to try their sliders which looked delicious, but I was full after 1 sandwich from them I couldn't try anything else. This place also takes credit cards, score! read more

I've always wanted to try Super Q Food Truck..so when I heard that they have a restaurant in Poway, I was in total glee! :) The restaurant is huge!!! And the service is very nice, quick, and friendly. I ordered a bbq pulled pork sandwich w/ potato salad and even though my sandwich was sort of soggy on the bottom (due to the coleslaw or maybe because of the heat of the meat?), it was SO DAMN good. My friend ordered the brisket sandwich w/ fries and it was good too. Definitely coming back to try more. Not too pricy for bbq. Around $9-12 for a bbq sandwich. AND THEY SELL CORN ON THE COB! Love me some good BBQ, and this food truck really hit the spot. You know when BBQ is tender, packed full of flavor, had a tangy sauce and all of this comes together just right? That's what my brisket sandwich was like today from Super Q. It met all those requirements and more, I'd say it's close to on par with Phil's. Meat was so juicy and tender, I'd like to try the pulled pork to see how that compares to the brisket. Not sure about the Mac and Cheese on brisket, but maybe I should give it a try, sounds like it would be interesting to say the least. Potato salad had nice flavor to it and was cold, which is good since that means it's not sitting out all day, any time potato salad is room temp or above it makes me nervous, but this was good, could have used some bacon or blue cheese or something special in it but it was still good potato salad. Prices are fair for what you get, food trucks are just a little more expensive than establishments sometimes but Super Q I think has the prices right for the food you get.
