    Neglected Trash for days
    Laura M.

While Swagyu offers wonderful burgers, they do not maintain or work with the owner of their building to maintain their unit or corner. It's very discouraging to see the weeds and trash that build up overall on this corner but specifically right in front of Swagyu. I would highly encourage the Swagyu ownership to work with the owner of the building and their own staff to ensure everything stays clean, neat, and weeded. I took this picture today- but this is how it has looked for the past four days.

First time visiting Swagyu Burger in Poway and I was impressed! Interesting place with a handful of tables and friendly, energetic service. I ordered the ¼ lb Classic Smash Burger and it was very tasty. Made with all the traditional LTOP fixin's, American cheese, plus spread on a brioche bun. The burger tasted great but was kind of a hot mess to handle. I felt like I needed to take two showers when I was done. Overall the balance of ingredients could have been better. Very onion heavy, not enough shrettuce, etc. I think next time I'll have something a little more beef forward like a 2x2 or something. We shared a side of Sidewinder Fries which were delicious. Hot, flavorful, crispy and comes with your choice of two dipping sauces. They don't offer any combo meals here. Everything is priced a la carte, so it winds up costing a small fortune. Especially if you're out as a couple or a family. Note that there is no public restroom at Swagyu Poway which is unfortunate. There is a hand washing station near the front where you order. Wish they had at least beer/wine service here considering the exorbitant cost. It would at least help numb the financial blow.

went for the first time to give it a try . the burger was good but the fries seemed a little off. i'm a big fan of 5 Guys fries and they were not near that level. i might go back for a burger if i was in the area.

Tried this restaurant for the first time based on an email from Yelp. The location is a small strip center on Twin Peaks in North East Poway. Small basic restaurant was over air conditioned and the rocking music was blasting. We were the only customers and you order at the counter upon entry. The staff was very nice and helpful. We decided to split the $20 OG Swagyu burger, share an order of the Sidewinder Frys. I loved the fries, but my wife thought they and the burger were over salted. The burger was pleasant enough, but I am not sure it was wagyu quality. But I haven't eaten beef in many years so . Doubtful we will return.

There were only two staff members present when we arrived and they were very busy. I had to wait about 7+ minutes to place my order. The cook informed us they had just received an order for 16 burgers so they were busy. Although they were busy I appreciated how friendly he was. There was low upbeat music playing and all the tables were clean. There's plenty of plants all around the restaurants with lights hanging from the ceiling. The decor is pretty cool, I like that you can watch the people make each order in front of you. We ordered two burgers and sweet potato waffle fries for a total of $44. Although it took a while to place the order The food was ready in about 5 minutes. The food was decent tastes similar to a burger from Rallys in my opinion I think I was a little too excited to try it-it wasn't worth the hype. But I did enjoy it

I've heard about this place and finally got to try it. We went for lunch on a Friday. It was pretty quiet and not busy at all. The space is a decent size. We were the only diners. The restroom had "out of order" sign but they let me use it. You had to go through the kitchen to get to it. We ordered two cheese burgers, one Smash burger with Swagyu smash patty, cheese katsu sando, A5 wagyu fat shoestring fries and a brownie. The burgers were good especially the smash burger but i don't think it's worth the price. The shoestring fries were not really shoestrings-ish and I couldn't tell if these wagyu fries taste any different than regular fries. The brownie was still frozen so i asked the staff to make a shake out of it instead. He was nice to accommodate the request. Overall, it's ok. I had higher expectations for this place though.

Service is friendly and order came out at a reasonable time. I came here with three other people and we shared sweet potato crisscross fries, sidewinder fries and onion rings. You do get to choose two sauces to go with your sides! The burger itself was a solid smash burger. I do love that they toast the buns so you get some crispy parts of the bun contrasting the soft interior. Every bite was a little different as I felt the ingredients did overpower each other in some instances. One bite I had, I just tasted onion lol. I didn't mind it too much, it just tasted fresh.

One of my husband's clients recommended Swagyu and we have been hooked since! Love the fast casual way this location operates. They still provide a vibe with good music and an open kitchen concept so you can see the chefs prepare your food while you wait. Service has improved over the years and recently a chef shared with us a jalapeño sauce he was trying out for the day. It was delicious! We had traditionally dined for the Japanese wagyu but the American was so delicious too! I love the way the sidewinder fries are seasoned. It's always a nice treat. There is a small parking lot out front shared with other businesses in the same plaza. There does not appear to be street parking.

El Swagador (cut in half as I split with my partner) + A5 wagyu tallow fries
    Andrea R.

Burgers are my fave food, so I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time. I'm ecstatic to report, it did not disappoint! Decided to split the 1/2lb El Swagador Burger with a side of the A5 Wagyu Tallow Fries. First of all, this quadruple confirms why I will never become a vegan. I just absolutely can't when a badass double decker burger with decadent pork belly on top exists!!! This burger sucker punched me directly in the mouth with flavor! The pork belly was so tender it basically melted in my mouth. The pickled serranos brought such a delightful kick. Honestly, even if I didn't get it cut in half, this is definitely one of those burgers you can't put down until you're done. You won't be able to stop going in for another bite. Of course the fries were spectacular as well. Why I've never had fries cooked in beef tallow before--and apparently are gluten free? Beats me. But now I'm ruined forever. Guess I'll just have to go back for more. Can't forget the staff! Very lively and friendly guys who are so very helpful about the menu and their recommendations. They even explained the difference between American wagyu and Japanese wagyu (both of which are on the menu). I was surprised we had the whole place to ourselves for a late lunch. I guess the location is in a tight corner of a small shopping strip where parking can be iffy. But dining in provides ample room with plenty of 4 seat tables. It looked like the bathroom was out of order, but we didn't need to use it anyways. Just be warned, the burgers are even BETTER than what they look like in the pictures. AND probably don't plan a long car ride after this meal because you WILL slip into the most satisfying food coma shortly after... perhaps consider a DD?

Too Little to Make Noise About Food: Cheeseburger - nothing extraordinary. Regular burger with basic fixing. Meat sort of lost amongst the sauce and myriad of other items. Bun just a brioche style bun. No big thrills. Fries (YES sold a la cart) - a swirl wedge cut. What else can I say than, for $6, they are wedge cut fries. No special flavoring. Not exceptional. [Ranch is not the best flavor of Ranch. ] Ambiance - gastro pub in style Price = $$ Service = people are nice but there is no distinct vibe of the place that stands out. Of 3 ppl, only 1 even said hi.

    J T.

The price is outrageous. $15-25 for a burger is high enough but... $10 for a tiny order of completely average fries? Craaaaazy

Ask the Community - Swagyu Burger - Poway

I did not see a smash burger on the menu that is just the 1/4th single patty. Do they have that option? or for the American Wagyu Burger, is there an option to make it a smash burger?

my understanding is all of their burgers are smash burgers

    Can we bring in alcohol?

    Yes

    Do you serve beer?

Not at this location at the moment, but we will be soon!

Are the cooked burgers offered all the days that the business is open?

Swagyu Chop Shop Poway is currently a butcher shop only. We do not offer hot food. Our burger shop will be opening next month (June 2022) at which time we will offer both butcher and burgers every day that we're open.

After sampling the above items, I have a monthly event that I attend nearby so I had a friend meet me after that event for happy hour here. I like pizza, deep dish or thin crust, round or square. It just depends on my mood, but since I've been wanting to come here for so long, I was excited to try their deep dish. When I arrived, it was a really hot day and there were a few people on the patio, but I preferred the air conditioned inside. There were a few other guests inside too. I was told to sit wherever I'd like so I sat towards the back. I ordered a happy hour glass of wine, which ended up being a Barbera. My other choices were sauv Blanc and a sparkling wine. When my friend arrived we ordered a small deep dish "where's the meat". We ordered the bacon on one side only. It took awhile as deep dish does. When it was brought to us I asked which side had the bacon and the girl didn't know. She said she would need to take gloves and find out and she disappeared with the pizza. About 10 minutes later she brought it back and said the side that had the bacon had Parmesan sprinkled on it. It was a bit haphazardly shaken on so the line wasn't clear, but we were happy to have it back so we could dive in. This pizza was worth the wait. I use to live in the Bay Area and there are some very good deep dish options there. I've also been to Chicago and had the real thing. The crust was crispy and a bit flakey. The inside was cheesy, meaty and saucy. The sauce had chunks of tomato and the cheese pull was great. When we left most of the tables were taken. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it even my non deep dish loving dining partner. We even had leftovers. In fact, last night we got regular crust pizza from the local neighborhood pizza spot we frequent and we both lamented that we wished it was the Shop deep dish. I think we're ruined now. THE FOOD The kitchen focuses on Mediterranean and California-style dishes, utilizing many fresh vegetables from their on-site garden. While the presentation and colors were great, the kitchen did struggle a bit with some of the meat temperatures during our visit. * House-Made Guacamole & Salsa: Fresh and refreshing. * Shrimp Cocktail: Large, plump pieces served ice-cold with cocktail sauce and pickled vegetables. * Yellowfin Tuna Crudo: Very fresh fish served with pickled vegetables, an Asian-style sauce, and crispy plantain chips. * Grilled Ribeye: Served with a beautiful slab of béarnaise butter melting on top. Unfortunately, it was a rather thin cut and arrived closer to medium/medium-well rather than the requested medium-rare. * Grilled Pork Tomahawk Chop: A fairly large portion, but the edges were cooked close to well-done, leaving the meat a bit dry and lacking moisture. * Lamb Lollipops: The standout dish of the night! Cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served with a bright mint chimichurri. Warm, juicy, and flavorful. * Drinks: They offer a great indoor bar with a wide selection of wines and cocktails. I stuck with the Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon, which was full-bodied and paired well with the meat dishes. THE SERVICE The servers and bartenders are quite personable, though attentiveness can be a bit sporadic during busy times.
