4 years ago the Cat Converter was stolen from my car so the next day I brought my car to Mike. Found out Mike had passed and Chris told me "nothing" had changed and he would put a new "referee approved" converter for me. Awesome. Now 4 years later this same shop does not pass my car after passing it twice previous and tells me 100% they did not put that converter in the car. He walks away from me and says he does not care if I write a review of my experience. OK then. I had to register a complaint with CAP ( Consumer Automotive Protection) and have extensive conversations with BAR to get this shop to finally agree that yes, they put in the Cat and it was approved when they put it in, but they had no records to substantiate this. All of the lies, denials and runarounds have taken me 2 months to resolve this and all issues point to this station. They put the Cat in, they did not keep a record of the model number on my invoice or on subsequent smog checks which is required by law and the cooperation from the shop was only passable when face to face with authority (CAP). I have stopped telling friends and family to go here, there are many places to bring your vehicle and get responsible, honest, friendly work done by someone who stands behind the work. I don't know why I do business here. This review is for the gas station and not for the mechanics. Today was the last straw. This wasn't the first time that I was treated rudely. I asked a simple question about the payment, and the man with glasses behind the counter became argumentative. He raised his voice and said, "Why don't you ask your bank?" I felt extremely uncomfortable as if I was being reprimanded. I have always been cordial, but I feel that this business does not cater to ladies. Ladies, beware! This review is actually for the mechanic shop that's in this gas station. I couldn't find separate profile for the mechanic shop but it's attached to the gas station and you pay the bill in the gas station. So I brought in my van because the air conditioner wasn't working. He then decided that he needs more freon in charge me $300 to do it (which seemed outrageous at the time just for freon). After he did it and supposedly edit freon which I'm not convinced he did the air conditioning in the van still did not work he did a few more tests and decided that there is an electrical issue with the car and he wasn't able to fix it. I then took it to a different mechanic shop and they found out that there was a air bubble in the system and after releasing that air bubble air condition was working beautifully. I then went back and tried to get some kind of resolution I'll get some kind of a reimbursement for my $300 which didn't work in any way to send me to hell! I won't take my car in there and not waste any money since these guys don't know what they're doing are not willing to take any responsibility for mistakes. read more

We have been going here on and off during the 20 years we lived in the area I started going there when DOC owned the shop But we are finished with this shop My wife took our late model car in for a smog check these guys charged her 80 bucks I called a few days later when I saw the charge to see if it was just because a woman brought the car in and low and behold my testicles got a 20 dollar discount on the phone quote from Chris. 3/26/21. Went into get gas and inquire as to Mike's health. Sadly, he had passed away. He was a really special guy: consummate businessman and truly a top notch honest mechanic. He beamed when he spoke of his family. I always felt like he was a "friend", not just our mechanic. RIP, Mike. You'll be missed. I had an emergency flat tire, so I pulled in and parked by the air pump. I went inside, and asked for them to turn the air on, and was told it's free if I fill up on gas. This is misleading as it is the law to have these services for free. I immediately left and went across the street to a law abiding station that will now be my regular service and fuel station of choice. Lost a customer. I went here to use the air station. Put in a dollar and the air hose was broken and deflated my tire even more. So I went to the mechanic and greeted him politely and explained the machine wasn't working and asked if I could use the hose that was in the shop area (the hose was on a reel and near the open door for easy access) I wasn't asking for a refund even. The mechanic said no and to go ask the clerk for a refund. And the mechanic did a great job fixing my car when it was broken. Pulled up to this gas station at about 9:20 on Wednesday night to pump gas. Keep in mind every place I checked says this gas station is open till 10. The attendant comes to the window of my car and asked if I'm getting gas. I said yes but on a call. He then told me he is closing and to go somewhere else. Myself & my family have been customers here for 15 + years. my mother & I just found out today of Mike's passing after coming a couple times this passed year and not seeing him We finally pressed about where did Mike go. He was a kind man and often spoke to me about his family. My heart aches for his family, his wife, & his girls. We trusted him as our family mechanic. The prices were not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. Any issue with any of our various vehicles over the years we always went to Mike. no Matter the issue it was always fixed perfectly without further concern. Once your car was fixed on a particular issue it was properly fixed without ever having reoccurring issues. A solid place with fair enough prices with excellent Quality work. Went in for a smog check with my 3 and 1 year olds and they were so fast! They finished in less than 10 min and I was a walk-in. My kids and I sat on the 2 folding chairs they have in the store and before we had a chance to even eat our snacks they said "all done". They sent my results to the DMV and I was ready to go. SO NOW AFTER THE EXPERIENCE I JUST HAD WITH THE CURRENT (IMO) SLIMEBALL THEY HAVE IN CHARGE NOW, DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME THEY WILL CHARGE NORMAL STANDARD RATES ON CAR SERVICES HERE because the current manager in charge here now I feel can't or shouldn't be trusted imo. I USE TO get my car smog here at this location on the corner of Vanowen St. & Fallbrook Ave. because they are the closest STAR smog station near me. The manager Mike seemed like an honest guy I went to this place 3 times in the past to get my car smogged. Mike was not here when I returned or my daughter went there recently. Read on. The price for a smog here was always about $10 over most other places so I was ok with that seeing the place is so close to where I live. Then, this last visit I go to have them put on new wind shied wiper blades and the blades they put on some old cheap blades that I had to drive back to them 3 weeks later to have replaced wiper blades that worked properly. Mike the regular manager wasn't there at the time, and instead the new jerk in charge questioned me even having them replaced by their station saying the blades were old. Yeah, maybe they were old because one of your guys put on some cheap ass old ones that were probably sitting around the shop for the last 2-3yrs. Anyways I'm glad I had the receipt to show this new jerk assistant manager on duty because he basically questioned me about the damn wiper blade they just put on just a few weeks ago. So they replaced it because this new manager jerk was getting me super annoyed and the guy knew I was about to go off on him and cause a problem if he didn't replace them. Anyways, BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES giving customers bad vibes like that. I hope the owners of this station see my review and think twice about who they put in charge over Mike now because whoever is currently in charge of their shop now now is a liar & a scammer imho that is screwing over customers. So, my daughter goes to get her car smogged at this location and a standard oil change and they basically told her the oil change would be $60, but then afterwards once they were done ended up take her for every penny they could from her. A FREEGIN' $90+ OIL CHANGE? She mistakenly should have got a hand written quote total from the guy first first before allowing them to do the oil change, and because she didn't, they purposely ripped her off of her money and said the cans of oil total came to $45, $15 for an air filter, then an additional RIP-OFF "Service Fee"?? Mike never had any "extra service fees". Her car probably didn't even need a new air filter. This currently in charge manager guy is a liar & a scammer imo. I use to deal with Mike. He NEVER had any kind of "service fee" for anything and was 100% up front about the prices. This currently flunky manager (not Mike) originally told her the oil change would be $60 with the air filter included. He didn't mention the oil totaled $45, nor did he mention or include any FAKE LIAR "service fee" in the original quote. After all said & done they ended up charging her $90+ for a standard simple oil change. TOTAL CHANGE IN ORIGINAL QUOTE & A LIE. A LAIR WORKS HERE NOW AT THIS LOCATION imo that is currently in charge of their mechanic shop. Whoever the sales/manager jerk currently in charge there now inside this place's mechanic shop is not to be trusted imo and gives out false quotes. I can't recommend this place because anymore now because I consider this new guy in charge a shady business mechanic imo that nickels & dimes people and I won't be going back here ever again for that reason. I'm sorry I told my daughter this is where I got my car smogged and to go here. Had Mike been there she wouldn't have gotten take advantage of and lied to on her initial quote she was given. I suggest to others to now GO ANYWHERE ELSE IF YOU NEED A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE AND I FYOU DO GO HERE THEN MAKE SURE YOU GET A HAND WRITTEN QUOTE ON ANY & ALL SERVICES THEY DO AT THIS PLACE SO YOU WILL KNOW WHAT THEY EXPECT WHEN YOU TO PAY. I think it's important to mention, that I'm not a very easy customer to please. With that said, my family has been doing business with Mike (West Hills 76) for well over 10 years. He is BY FAR the most honest mechanic I have ever dealt with. Recently, I was told by Toyota that I had an issue with my car and it would be $4200 to fix. However, my car still ran and Toyota's diagnoses didn't seem right to me. I turned to my trusted mechanic, Mike, and he informed me that the problem was grossly exaggerated. A few $100 bucks and the problem was fixed. It was in Mikes best interest to just go along with what Toyota told me and fix it himself for a lower cost than Toyota but it still would have been thousands. But Mike was honest and let me know that there was a much less expensive and still very effective fix. He literally saved me! His work is clean, professional and honest.
