Their shop's system couldn't read my car OBDII and they decided to still proceed to complete the test knowing this and without letting me know, they then decided to fail my smog test due to this. Not upfront with their policies. Still charged me for $69 for a smog and charging again for retest is insane. Had me wait for 30 minutes for all of that. Unethical. Needless to say I wont be back here. Save your money and go elsewhere, $79 for a smog check is insane. I went to another shop and their system can read my OBD and free retest as well. read more

I took my vehicle in because my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. The staff at DeYoungs were very detailed in their testing and were able to diagnose and fix the problem. Brought my wife's car here to have them check the a/c and oil pan. They were able to squeeze me in on a Friday. After leaving the car with them, Jack called to let me know that the a/c compressor needs to be replaced. Provided me with oem and aftermarket costs. I checked online and it fell in line with what it would cost. From what I can tell, they seem to run an honest auto shop and that's all I can hope for as there are a lot of scammers out there and it's hard to find a mechanic that won't rip you off. They share the parking lot with a Pawn Shop right on the corner of Topanga and Sherman Way. I like that the property is gated so I feel a bit better if I had to leave the car with them. Went in for a brake fluid exchange because Subaru was recommending it even though my car only had 17k. Dropped off my car then left for some coffee in the area. A few minutes later, I get a call from Josh saying "it's too premature to get a brake fluid exchange now given that my car is only at 17k and brake fluid is still good." I appreciate their honesty and not making money off me. He then educated me about what services are needed per manufacturer's recommendations or where to find those information. I brought in my 07 f350 diesel for a smog, and light and brake certificate. These guys are fully incompetent and also evil. They failed my smog for having a digital monitor which they called a tuner. I showed them on the company website that it's a monitor, California legal and allowed. They didn't care. They also failed me bc the side marker lens had a crack in it despite the light functioning. The service was professional and prompt -- I called, got some quotes, made an appointment for a transmission fluid exchange, and it was done as promised. They even checked my battery, offered to get me a quote, and weren't pushy about selling it to me because they knew I was going to be leaving the car still for 6 months. When taken to another shop, the next shop confirmed their diagnosis was full of lies and the new shop fixed me truck for a few hundred dollars, compared to the thousands of dollars being quoted by Deyoungs. This place came recommended by ppl in the neighborhood and I was swayed with the good reviews on Yelp. I was looking for a place I could trust that could potentially be "my" mechanic for the future, but I certainly didn't find it here! Lon was nice when I first talked to him. I needed brakes done and some other things to check out, so I left my car. Peter called me back and I honestly didn't expect to be gaslit and mansplained to by a mechanic... 1) My headlights go out randomly while driving at night. I wanted them to just check it out and see what may be causing the issue. Peter got really snarky and was emphatically talking down to me saying "well I can't tell you the exact time your lights are going to go out! They're working now so it's not broken!" Yeah, I know the bulbs aren't broken, I'm not asking you to give me an expiration date on my bulbs, I want to know why they might be going out randomly so I don't get pulled over for them! He even had the nerve to suggest that maybe I'm not seeing it correctly bc the headlights are a little scuffed/dirty. Um, no, dude, I know the difference between dirty light covers and no lights being on! 2) I for sure needed brakes done so I asked him how bad they were. Peter again, complete with snark, told me "I can't give you an exact measurement or percentage! I mean, they're not to thin where you need to fix the rotars but you need to get them done." I explained they my old mechanic would tell me "you're at 5mm or 4mm, so let's wait til 3mm." So I want to know how bad they are. He proceeded to keep telling me condescendingly that he can't give me that number and he "doesn't know how my old mechanic measured things but that's not how we do it here." Feeling gaslit af, I went on Google and confirmed with mechanic friends that I was right. Thickness of the brake pads can measured just like I said. Not to mention when I brought it up when I picked up my car, Lon pulled out the EXACT same green/yellow/red brake thing with the same measurements (2-12mm) on it that my old mechanic had showed me! 3) I'm familiar with the practice that mechanics charge a fee for looking into something bc they spend time on your car and they want to get paid if you choose not to get work done there. Understandable, I get it. I already confirmed I wanted my brakes done and Peter said he'd charge me $128 to look at my light situation. I was like, why are you charging me to look at them if I'm getting my brakes done? "Fine, I'll charge you $62" I again asked, why would you even charge me $62 when I already confirmed I'm getting a service done? "Fine, I won't charge you. We'll do the brakes and go from there." Bro, you went from trying to charge me $128 to nothing?! And then have the gall to tell me right after that you work on commission after you just tried to swindle me for extra money?! He did the same re: the fee for checking why my heat and ac doesn't work. 4) I wanted to go in and talk to Lon when I picked up my car to let him know how rude and condescending Peter was on the phone with me. To the point where I had to call him out on the phone for having this unnecessary attitude. It was a different Lon than I had talked to before. He straight up kept ignoring me when I was trying to explain Peters "customer service." Even when explaining the brake measurements, he brought out that green/yellow/red sample brake with the measurements, I was like yeah, you're proving my point that Peter was just being a straight up dick. Anything I said regarding that phone call was ignored and he would just continue to cash me out. Lon had a chance to help smooth things over, apologize for his employees' behavior, and regain some trust, but he fumbled it. TL/DR: Peter is, what we say in the Midwest, a jagoff. As a woman, if you want to be potentially be taken advantage of, gaslit, and be spoken to condescendingly this is your place. Lon's response or lack there of was equally aggravating. There is ZERO chance that they would have ever spoken to me or treated me this way if I was a dude. This is NOT the friendly neighborhood mechanic who you can trust! read more

Went here 3 times. Once to get my engine light fixed. 2nd time to get my brothers engine light fixed. Third time to get smogged and something else fixed. Great Mechanics that know what they are doing. Most mechanics I'm worried that they would try to upsell you rip you off. Didn't get that vibe here and they actually did a great job. The only problem I've had here is sometimes because they are so awesome they have so many customers you might not be able to get your car done. I've also experienced way overpriced but honest, but to get both honesty and reasonable fees at the SAME place........wowwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!! The dealership told me I was going to need bushings or bearings (can't remember now which one they said). My warranty coverage said too bad, they wouldn't cover it, so something told me to just do nothing. I then came to this place, and THEY said, there's nothing wrong with them. Wow these mechanics here may be the worst in the valley. My truck decided to spontaneous go out and I was quoted for $140 diagnosis which is perfectly fine. Upon returning I was another $140 was needed to further run tests. I am not sure how that makes sense if I had already paid the original $140, I guess they wanted money to simply breathe. I took the truck back as I like most people don't know have money to simply give out and it was a $12 sensor. They really wanted to take $280 from me for a sensor. I wish I could give ZERO STARS.
