This is as good as a Chinese buffet will ever get! Spacious! Clean! Attentive staff! Great mood lighting! Hot food! Nice bathrooms! Cool decorations! TVs with sports! Not a spec of dirt on the floor, not a frowning waitress to be found and not a single thing I can find wrong with the whole darn place. The food is excellent, the location is great and you certainly get enough bang for your buck! The only thing that keeps me from giving it that fifth star is their "Holiday Charges." Eating here on a holiday-- anything from Mother's Day to Labor Day to St. Patrick's Day, you'll find a very interesting $2-5 additional charge on your reciept that reads "Holiday Prices" or some such. Came here for "seafood buffet" expecting to have crab legs. We have never seen a single crab leg in the buffet table. They never refilled it for over an hour I was there. We even complained to the owner saying they have never brought crab legs out, but still did not bring them out. If they cut corners and cheat customers, I cannot trust the quality of other food. Yep. They get 5 starts. After all it is only a $12 Chinese buffet and my review is based on what I look for at a $12 buffet. I have been here a few times in the past couple years and I wonder why I do not come more often. The food is really good and there is a lot to choose from. Service is so, so, there are some days that are better than others, but the big reason why they get 5 stars is because the keep them crab legs flowing! I am fed up with some buffets that bring out crab every 45 mins and not when it gose empty. I have experienced times where I never got any and I paid the same price as everyone else, so definite A++ for World Buffet to not succumbed to that practice! I remember coming here almost every weekend as a kid with my family and I remember really liking it. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't go near a Chinese buffet unless my grandma requested it. It's located in a strip mall with such random shops (e.j Cole's Salon, Payless ShoeSource, Erberts & Gerberts, The UPS Store). The sign for it on the outside is tacky and honestly, you probably wouldn't know it was there unless you were really looking. I never have high expectations for buffets because really, Chinese buffets are usually all the same quality-wise. However, I was surprised at how good it actually was! It doesn't compete with a sit down Chinese or seafood restaurant, but it tastes better than most buffets I've been to. It has your typical Chinese buffet food choices - fried chicken wings, white and fried rice, chicken and beef cooked in various ways, etc. I was surprised that they didn't have beef and broccoli though - I was kind of sad about that. In addition to these foods, they also had a make-your-own stir fry area, sushi, and a few seafood options - clams, crawfish, and mussels. The service was good. Our waitress brought our drinks in a timely manner and refilled them frequently. Other than that, we didn't really see her but this was to be expected at a buffet where you're basically serving yourself anyways. This place gave us UPSET STOMACHS! Went in with low expectations but it still managed to give us a even worse experience. For $15 dinner buffet - Please go to another buffet in the cities if you can. Sushi was very bad. It was old & they don't make more unless the current ones are finished. Problem is, not a lot of people were there to eat so it was probably sitting there all day. We went on a Sunday night where you would expect to see a lot of people but no, there was about 10 people there altogether which makes sense given their foods bad quality and taste. We tried a variety of foods and most of it tasted bad. Their sweet and sour sauce tasted like orange jelly. I am a foodie, I can make things taste better mixing different sauces but even I couldn't help it. They have beef ribs which was exciting but it tasted very old and stale. Missing a lot of sauce options and not a lot of good dessert options either. When you look at a place to sit with your family this is a great place to come to. I have come here every month and I have to say it is my favorite buffet in the southern part if MN. You pay around $12 per person, the drinks when you order a drink the refills are free (I would know ) The staff is always around, kinda bugs you every time you finish a plate but at the same time it's very clean. The food is always out there like the crabs are put out as soon as it's empty and the sushi is an over flow. You never get enough of this place but at the same time it's very filling. If you're looking for a buffet not a restaurant then this is your place. Also before I forget the scenery is really great specially the rocky wall waterfall into a fish tank. This place is probably one of the worst buffets I had been to. There was not a lot of choices. Food was not good. Most food were either too salty or dry. Taste very plain. Only got to eat crab leg once the whole time I was there waiting. They only limit you 5 small crab legs. They only brought out crab leg one time. We were seated very far from the food which we had to walk through the side where all the boxes and supply for the place was stored. I would not recommend this place to anyone. My gal, for whatever reason, loves this place. They have some kind of celery like salad that she just goes gaga over. As a result I have to eat at this wretched buffet every once in awhile. Sat on the ol' davenport and perused the coupons. OH MY GOD! There it was. An ad and coupon celebrating the reopening of this joint. Gotta hide it. I ran and got the scissors..yes, thats right kids I RAN with scissors! I removed the entire page, from the mag and stuffed it in my jacket, to be disposed of later off site just to avoid the extremely slim chance she would see it in the garbage. I was really thinking this through, as per usual when I hatch diabolical schemes. Soon thereafter my gal came home. She literally bounced through the door with a happy smile on her face and in her hand was her purse. Meh..nothing unusual there but in her other hand was...WTF A DOLLARS AND SENSE MAGAZINE! HOW! WHERE? WTF? WHERE DID SHE GET THAT? I immediately knew I was defeated, as per usually happens when I hatch my diabolical schemes. I would quite soon be going to World Buffet. Fast fwd to today. Got there. Ate there. On the bright side they did a good job on teh remodel, it looks pretty sharp. On the dark side, no amount of sugar coating can hide the crap they call food and serve people. Even so I'll explain a little bit of the changes they made. The buffet area is essentially unchanged, still three islands of food, one had the stuff they tell us is "chinese" food. One had rice and tortillas and other odd assortments of foods. The third, well, sorry I can give no intel as I didn't even look at it. Thats how great it was. There is a sushi area now. I only saw maki. It looked Cub worthy. Lets be clear, I am a sushi vacuum. I love sushi. I didn't live in Japan for all those years for nothin, after all!! I will not eat this crap Chinese buffets call sushi though. It isn't sushi, it is crap. They make it wrong, they cut corners, not just world buffet but all of them, and they pervert it into something far different than what it ought to be...you know..kinda like they do with Chinese food! The hibachi..looks like they got a new one. room to cook about 3 peoples stuff. When it is busy this is not even close to adequate and I wound up waiting in line for about 10 minutes to get my stuff cooked. The sauce selection is meager. bleh. And the best part about the whole thing is they left the entry/exit situation unchanged. So when it is busy, people wanting to pay and people waiting to be seated intermingle, creating chaos. Ah the joy. On the bright side, this is a dine and dasher's dream. I wonder how many high school kids will zip out the door before they decide they need to keep the two groups separate? Wow I typed alot, didn't intend to. I just figured "it sucks" needed a little more color. oh they charge for hot tea now. I would imagine that means pop is also no longer included in the price. Pay for the remodel FTW!! I will end on a positive note for this joint. They are always busy when I'm there. Maybe i'm not in their target demographic? Awful, disgusting! All of the serving tongs for the sushi were absolutely disgusting! It was a disgusting mess, the staff was not the most polite and the food was horrible! If I had to describe the World Buffet in one word, it would be TERRIBLE! You immediately walk into a bizarre setup that causes a crash course between those looking to be seated and those trying to pay. Our drink orders were taken upon being seated, but 10 minutes later they still had not been delivered. The food options were lackluster and disorganized, but I grabbed some basic staples in hopes of salvaging this trip. I finally flagged down a very confused employee regarding our lack of drinks, with this suddenly our waitress appeared. The waitress faked an apology, but she wasn't truly sorry as her service remained awful for the remainder of our visit. Drinks are not included in the $12.00 buffet price, I assume this is a tactic to make sure you don't enjoy refills. I had to resist the urge to throw up after I finished eating because the calorie bomb that was the whole greasy (it was actually swimming in grease), fried meal just wasn't worth it. I come here a lot with my roomie! : ) He loves the stir fry they make right in front of you. I love crab legs so we always come here for dinner. Some favorites for me are the hot and spicy chicken which isn't very spicy but its good. Green beans of course! They have the typical selection and rarely change anything around. I'm not brave enough to try the cheesy oysters or clams I forget which ones they are. They do serve sushi, I'm assuming its not very good since most buffet sushi isn't but I don't like it so I wouldn't be a good judge. THE BUFFET for Asian folk down south. Maybe it's the crab legs, cleaner than usual atmosphere, or just huge square footage but this place is always packed. Just like any other Chinese buffet you've been at but I see managers making a conscious effort running around to make sure everything is fresh, which is pretty rare. All in all, worth trying if you're down south.
