    3. Whole Peking Duck with Pancakes but pancakes were too big!
    Ronny T.

We came with a big group for Sunday lunch. Two big round tables with order ahead. We had the Peking Duck of course as well as lobster, orange chicken, string beans, and spicy eggplant. Lobster and Peking Duck were the best. Lobster was tasty and I appreciate how the duck was not too fatty. The egg roll skin they give you was much too big. They need to serve it with smaller ones so you're not making a duck burrito tbh. The string beans were okay but skip the eggplant. Orange chicken was popular with the kids but I thought it was a bit dry. Nice place though. I liked the koi pond.

This has become my go-to restaurant for Cantonese style food. I got: Salt and pepper shrimp Sichuan green beans Cantonese style chicken lo mein Cream cheese wontons I liked all of it. The salt and pepper shrimp was crunchy, fresh, and well-seasoned. I would've liked some jalapeños instead of the bell peppers, so it'd give the dish more of a kick. The green beans were crunchy and packed with flavor in the sauce. The lo mein was very tasty. The flavors were good, the chicken was tender, and the noodles were semi crunchy, but soft enough to make it easy to scarf down. And the wontons were perfectly fried with crispy skin. I don't think they had any seasoning or additional filling besides plain cream cheese, so that was somewhat of a let down. But the duck sauce that came with them made them taste much better! I would get all of these dishes again.

Ordered take out but have been to this restaurant a couple times before. They have a lot of options which is great if you want a good variety of Chinese food. My personal favorites are the shrimp ball, tofu hot pot, and the duck of course! Food has always been pretty good and service as well. It's a huge restaurant inside and usually pretty fast. Ambience is nice! Overall pretty good and great if you want a variety of Chinese food especially for a big party! They have lazy Susan's inside the restaurant!

Chinese food is part of my soul along with rare spectacular Italian food ( Little Italy NYC 1970's-80's). I have been SO lucky to have grown up in the northern suburbs of NYC Chinatown 1960's. We had the very very best then! So when I still glow (12+ years) about the top quality of cuisine and amazing selection of truly top top exquisite Chinese food here at Peking Garden, it is from deep down in my soul. Their sauces are to die for. My favorite are their pea tips added rarely to select proteins. One is crab and pea tips... mmmm. When you move and live in a town with lousy terrible Chinese food, depression and longing set in. Only THEN... do you realize what you had at Peking Garden!! Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants! I didn't get a good picture of all the food I got but I like the new layout of the place. Very spacious and the interior design looks great! Parking is also available. My favorite dish to get is the golden glazed smelt with pepper. It's so good I crave this all the time!! Other dishes I got was seafood stir fry noodles, Peking duck, veggies and this fried fish. The fried fish is the only thing I wouldn't get again. There was too much batter so, I didn't taste any fish. Other than that, everything else was really good! The workers are nice and friendly. They didn't check up on us as much. But overall if you are wanting to try authentic Chinese food, Peking is a great place to go.

People usually default to their local "chinese spot", but this place was especially good. I dined in, which is unusually for a cuisine conjoined to "takeout". The inside is huge, it has a koi pond, and it's decked out in decor. The menu is great. It has pictures of EVERYTHING. I hate big menus, but this is a good exception. I love to see what I'm getting before I order. The baby bok choi was fresh and bright green, and the brisket hot pot was incredible. I'm already craving it and want to go back!

I've been a big fan of Peking Garden ever since I moved to Minnesota 10 years old. They offer a solid selection of Cantonese dishes with consistently generous portions. The food is always flavorful and nicely presented. At their current location, the ambience has been significantly upgraded, and the koi pond adds a delightful touch. It's also a great spot for hosting private events. My favorite food choices are Peking duck, beef chow fun, green vegetable and the free desert soup at the end! The service is swift.

I fell in love with the beef chow mein. It was really good. Everything we got was good. The house fried rice to the walnut shrimp. It is worth eating here with a big family. The service was good, we got refill of water all the time. And the ambiance was night and not too loud, it was getting late and not many people there. The beef short rib was delicious and it wasnt salty or too sweet. Very mix of savory and sweet. I dont remember the pork dish, but that one was very delicious, although it was sweet, you can switch to the fried rice. The chinese broccoli was really good. Definitely hit the spot when youre eating too much meat. The tofu dish was good, but if after eating it a couple of times, i didnt like it as much. Still a very delicious and yummy meal over all this location! The walnut shrimp, the shrimp is so big, it is a must get.

That steamed fish ginger and scallions. What? I got the Walleye Steamed fish with scallions and ginger. This was the highlight of the meals for me! I came here twice and got this fish twice. It was a decent size that can be big enough for 4-5 people. The scallions and ginger were tasty and the fish as well. For this restaurant, you can choose between fried or steam and then the various flavors. There are about 3 types of fishes. I also got the hollow vegetables, this was more on the salty side.. but i still enjoyed it. I also got a lo mien, it was ok. environment This is off university, there are quite a bit of parking in the back and the inside is very big. There are a lot go booth types of seating and many big tables for large parties. Niceness of the staff... Ha... I like chinese restaurants where any of the servers can serve you, it was very quick. I was able to flag someone down and get what I needed. Dollar It was decent. The fish is priced at market price and that day it was $42, the other dishes were 15-20 Yes? I would! As much as I love the steamed fish, I would like to try the fried version

My quest to find good Chinese food on the east side of town brought me to Peking Garden. Ordered the Kung Pao Chicken(extra spicy) and Young Chow Fried Rice for takeout. Both items were really solidly done, tasted good and the portions were very respectable for the price. Kung Pao had filler and the chicken could have been of better quality but they nailed the spice and flavor. The fried rice was perfectly done and wonderful. This is the kind of place I had hoped to be able to find closer to home in Woodbury. Solid, tasty, reasonably priced Chinese food I'd be happy to get any day of the week when that hankering kicks in.

We have been to Peking Garden way back when they were in a standalone building on the corner of Huron and University, back when they served dim sum in carts on the weekends. That location was casualty to city progress and road work and then they moved by Allianz Field. Yet again they were forced to move due to the pandemic and the post-George Floyd riot damage. Finally they leased the Mai Village property after the property changed hands a few times. Peking Garden has historically been a 3rd/4th pick for our Chinese family. They do serve authentic Cantonese food, albeit not up to par with other places in the past. Their service used to be absolutely atrocious. You could never get anyone's attention to fill your tea pot or rice pot. Fast forward to today. Peking Garden is now in the old Mai Village space, which is arguably the best Asian restaurant ambience in the entire city that features a complete antique hand carved roof structure and murals, a pagoda, and an indoor koi pond with a BRIDGE! It is finished out with Chinese vases and wall art. I was super sad though through all these transitions of the space the antique chairs and tables are all gone. I think they went to Tea House on University? Read about the redemption of this important Frogtown space by the Hmong American Partnership and the community in this article: https://www.tcdailyplanet.net/mai-village-saved-hmong-american-partnership/ So much for history. The current restaurant is a bit of a renaissance. Gone is the propensity to make a part of the dining room their storage facility like back in Dinkytown. Gone are the unattentive waitstaff from Midway. And most importantly, gone is the mediocre food. It is now substantially upgraded to the standards of a proper Cantonese Banquet establishment like Mandarin Kitchen in Bloomington. One huge bonus is that for dinner they served EVERY Table dessert! You don't even need to order seafood! (BTW they still have live lobster tanks, which they've had since day one.) We ordered the Five Spice Brisket hot pot and the Fried Garlic Shrimp. They were incredible and rave worthy. So congratulations Peking Garden! Through such a long journey I am proud to recommend this place as one of the mainstay Cantonese Restaurants in the Twin Cities.

Ask the Community - Peking Garden

I saw in the paper yesterday that they are going to tear the strip mall down that Peking Garden is in following the senseless George Floyd arson events. Does anyone know if they are seeking a new location? Or are going to throw in the towel?

They move to the new location at 394 University ave down the road, where the old mai village building. And they are opening the new business on March 18, 2021 for take out only until finished the remodeling the dinning room.

Is Peking garden today dec 28? I tried calling to check but no answer

They are closed for the holidays. Back on 30th.

    How is the peking duck?

It's more like Cantonese roast duck. It's nothing like what you get from beijing china.

In…read morere-reading my reviews, I stand by everything I've said about the excellent consistent quality of the food, the service, and how much I enjoy coming to this restaurant. I truly hope they are around longer than I am. I would hate to find out this was one of the choices no longer available to us. Please read my previous reviews for a more inclusive view; this review focuses only on their lobster. I had previously mentioned that they prices of their lobsters (I love the version with black bean sauce) have gone up tremendously. While true, there seems to have been a subtle change in their pricing strategy. Previously (as of before the pandemic), the lobster was priced by the pound, which is the conventional way of doing it. However, they seem to have two lobster prices. The first one is called "Big Lobster" and they say it's between 2 and 2 and half pounds per lobster. The price of that (as of this review) is $56 dollars, or $28 per pound. That's not really a bad price at all. It's expensive, but reasonable. The other lobster is called "Live Lobster" and is priced $10 less at $46. So the real question is how much does this second version weigh? I ordered the Big Lobster, but they said they were out of it. I asked the weight of the "Live Lobster" but I didn't really get a straight answer, but he seemed to say "about two pounds" which doesn't really make sense because that's the price of the larger, more expensive lobster. But I decided to go for it anyway. As I stated in my last review, I'm guessing this lobster is at least two pounds, based on many years of eating lobster. For this review, I had ChatGPT translate the the Chinese on the menu, thinking it was secret code for "if you can read Chinese, save ten dollars by ordering this version" but AI says the Chinese means "lobster" so if you spoke Chinese, you'd still be mystified. So my recommendation is order the version that is ten dollars cheaper and you may (or may not) be paying $23 a pound. Price aside, I love this version of lobster and it is certainly a better deal than what you would pay at an American style seafood or steak restaurant in the Twin Cities.

If you park in back it would be hard to get to the door unless you are able to make it half way around the block. If you park in front it is just street parking. My dad uses a walker and we were lucky enough to get a spot right in front of the restaurant, anything else would have been a problem. Spacing inside the restaurant is pretty tight as well. Once dad sat down they had to take his walker into the back because there was no room in the seating area. We were packed in pretty tightly and very close to the table next to us. Overall, delicious food! We will be back!
