I really hate writing negative reviews on any kind of service industry job, but wow... I got home and my roommates kept asking "so you really PAID for that haircut???". I don't know if maybe I did a bad job at communicating, but we talked about cutting about 2 inches, some layering, but no layering at the ends, and she cut off around 6 inches, and gave me the most horrendously blunt and uneven layers I have ever seen. The "face framing pieces" don't even reach mid ear level now that my hair is dry (I have curly hair, and she soaked it before cutting), and I'm just going to hack at my hair with scissors today to try and fix it (I don't think it can get any worse...). The whole experience--walking in, talking to a stylist, getting it cut, and paying--took less than 10 minutes, so I guess I should have expected these results. The sign at the door about closing should have been my first sign. I asked for long layers, an inch off, and face framing. The girl was short blonde with bangs. She told me she couldn't do layers bc it would be choppy even though i've gotten layers my whole life. we went back and forth and i gave up so i said that's fine just do the face framing and cut an inch. made no sense to me. she gave me so much attitude, i know i should have left i was just anxious. the other workers got a phone call and they complained and wanted to hangup so they didn't have to accept the appointment bc they wanted to close early. it took her 3 minutes to cut the inch off. she cut off so much during the face framing, not to mention its uneven on both sides. terrified to even show pictures. took her 8 minutes. if you can't cut hair then don't be a stylist! making an appointment elsewhere to fix the damages read more

Given that my sister is a stylist, I am spoiled by her usually cutting my hair for me. When she and my other stylist was out of town, I was on a desperate, last minute search. Whenever my hair grows over my ears, it becomes intolerable. I looked online to make an appointment and saw the no wait time and rushed in. Sadly the website has inaccurate wait times. There was only one stylist there upon arriving and he was already booked up until two other stylists came in at 11 am. Nonetheless, I returned later in the day and saw Philip. He was a delight and hysterical. I left with shiny, fabulous smelling hair. She was very professional and detailed. She was very good and separated my curls without breaking them and drying in small sections. She was delicate with areas that needed detangling. She was methodical in a good way. She never seemed overwhelmed by my amount of hair. I have curly hair, so people are surprised when they flat iron it, and it almost goes to my bum. Overall, i am very pleased with Hazels work and found that $65 is very reasonable for my length hair. This Supercuts was a disappointment. I gambled on the stylist knowing how to cut hair (low fade). I didn't feel confident in her abilities. The stylist was sloppy and barely communicated with me. I felt she wanted me out as soon as possible. The haircut she game me was definitely not worth 30 dollars. On top of the haircut the customer services and the vibe was not pleasant. No one greeted me (all stylists) were preoccupied with talking with their friend... I did not feel welcomed... I should taken that red flag and walked out. I went to get my wavy hair cut, and when Jackie asked about the length, I told her "below the collarbone." I specifically mentioned I wanted it longer because it tends to shrink when it dries. However, when she finished, my hair was already above my shoulders while still wet. I pointed out that this wasn't what we discussed, and all she said was, "Well, sorry." On top of that, she spent time complaining about how the owner wasn't picking up the phone when they had computer issues earlier in the day. I've gone to this supercuts before, and while I don't expect anything special, usually it's serviceable. I have an ordinary side part men's haircut - really hard to get wrong, and just needed a half inch taken off. First off, the stylist was very rough and made me feel uncomfortable - pulling hairs with pretty much every scissor cut, grasping his hands fully around my head. I've never seen anything like it. I was too stunned to react. As for the haircut itself, probably the worst I've ever had. It was hard to tell at the store because he was somehow incapable of combing my hair back to how I had it when I walked in, leaving it in a mess. When I got back I discovered a "saddle" had formed between the front and back leaving a dent in the middle. Looks horrendous. And, he made no attempt to balance the hair around the temple area. As I noted in my last review, EVERYTHING in SB costs vastly less than it does in NYC: rent, bars, restaurants, groceries, produce, booze.... The one exception: HAIR. It's Madison Avenue pricing and I remain flabbergasted by the cost of color and cut both. It starts at 100 (for SINGLE process, just regular old brunette color---which isn't rocket science to apply for most women's hair, unless extremely long and thick). A brunette college counseling client told me her cut, color, and blowdry was $220 last month but that because she had foregone both so many months during the pandemic, she thought, okay fine. Commercial rent even in downtown (19 Blue, say) is a fraction Manhattan or Brooklyn. . My pal with a wine bar on 91st and 3rd (which is HARDLY central!) 22,000 a MONTH RENT on a bar with a convection basement tiny food prep area. So why something on Upper State should cost more than a salon in Hell's Kitchen (50th and 9th), I have no idea. It's far cheaper to rent an apartment here too. It was only the horror of SB hair prices that led me to Supercuts in the first place. And just a cut. Then I found out they do color. My cut was decent (but she went far too quickly and she didn't offer me a wash before--up charge 4 bucks, which I will definitely do next time). Blowouts are really affordable here, too, so that's another thing to file away for the next time I have a reason to have pretty hair. I didn't even know Supercuts did color. So it was 59 dollars and Brian took his time. He colored TINY sections, for one of the most even color jobs I've had in my entire life. I brought my own and the formula was a little less purple but that's easily fixed next time. I tipped 20 on a 59 buck color job because he is as good as those people in Santa Barbara charging an obscene amount. Also it was really fun chatting with a fellow theater lover. I've been going to this place for haircuts for a few years and have never had a problem no matter the stylist. This time was different. I'd never had this stylist before but that's not usually a problem because have simple straight hair. Unfortunately, she seemed annoyed and like she hated her job. I gave her specifications, but she seemed to already have a plan in mind for my hair and did what she wanted. She asked if I liked it, and I said no, so from that point on she didn't ask my opinion again. All in all, she spent about 5 minutes on my haircut and it's passable, but I don't like the length and neck shape. Next time I know to book specific stylists. I'm not super particular about my hair, but, then again nobody likes a bad haircut! I've found I get consistently good work from whomever I get as a stylist at this particular location. Sure, I do have a favorite (Felicia) but I have never been disappointed by any stylist I've had here. its super easy to use their online "check-in" system or the phone app that works the same way. The salon is always really clean and its rarely all that crowded. For me, its a super convenient location though occasionally parking is a bit of a hassle because of the smallish parking lot for the whole center. I had a completely lousy haircut and experience tonight. Hazel seemed indifferent from the get go. I told her I was looking to grow my hair out and simply wanted to clean it up. She didn't engage in the normal dialogue like other hair cutters to see what I was looking for (straight in back, or natural, how do want side burns, or show me a team length before cutting ,didn't ask to trim eyebrows, etc) During the comb she pulled and tugged away without misting the hair enough. During the cut she just seemed to sloppily hack a way. In the end she basically took my hair super short and cut all my wave off. Absolutely lousy even for a Supercuts haircut. I read the reviews before coming here so I knew that I was getting into a scheduling nightmare. I chose to walk in today because there is clear preference for this appointment style. They wrote my name down and said to come back in an hour. That was a critical mistake. I waited patiently outside and watched them serve at least 8 other walk in customers before 3:30. When I returned at 3:15, they made me wait an additional 45 minutes while they took another 5 walk ins, before it was finally my turn. Went in as a walk in to get my hair trimmed. The stylist who worked on my hair made a comment about how much hair I had and looking back that was probably a bad sign that she was going to rush in order to get it done as quickly as possible since more people were starting to come in. She asked if I wanted to get my layers refreshed but she ended up making them extremely choppy and one dimensional. She asked if it was ok and honestly I was too upset she didn't even see how bad it was so I just paid and left. Probably the biggest waste of money because now I have to go somewhere else to get it fixed. Even the stylist at the salon I made an appointment for noticed how badly cut my layers were and I regret giving the stylist here a $10 tip but the haircut itself was only $20 so I felt bad. Supercuts seems like a good place for people with short hair so if you want something more complicated than a trim I suggest you go to an actual salon where they will actually give a shit about how your hair looks after they cut it. read more

Brian Richards was very friendly and did a great job! The music selection here is mediocre, when I first came in they were playing a really bad arrangement of MoTown... but they offered to change the music to something better for my haircut, so for that I'm grateful. They have only three stations: alternative, funk, and country. I picked alternative. It was much better than funk. Great prices, I paid only $20 for a means haircut but also left a nice size tip. With franchises like this, they like you to know exactly what you want and they'll match if you bring in pics, be sure to include sides and back pics for your look. They're very professional. The hot towel finish is really nice. With COVID-19 lockdown my hair became super unruly, they did an excellent job with a very super clean look! Overall excellent, 4 stars. They could get a higher rating with a better and more diverse music selection, perhaps Kusc or Kiss FM, and perhaps some atmosphere or calming lights or aromatherapy or something could take this to the next level! It looks rather industrial inside, but that's common with haircut places. Some slight interior decor adjustments could make it very inspiring. Don't normal write any reviews or use Yelp, but my recent experience with this particular Supercuts was not a pleasant one. I went in a trim of half an inch of my current hairstyle for a friends wedding, but the gentlemen who cut my hair wasn't fully present when I said this and thought I said half an inch of hair left. By the time he used the razor, it was too late and I was forced to have my half an inch of hair. I was not pleased to put it mildly. I will say that they did comp my haircut, but argued that I should've been more clear with what I wanted. Every place I've been too understood what "take half an inch off" means, or asked me questions to make sure since it is a big change from my current hairstyle and they didn't do that here. They also promised to reach out to me to make it right, but I never received any follow-ups. So you shouldn't get a haircut here, or at least make absolutely sure that whoever is cutting your hair understands 100% what you want and not assume they will understand your instructions. read more

A couple of times I have been in the area and wanted to get a blow dry, every single time I have walked in they are "booked" with no one in the waiting area. One time I booked two appointments in a row as a haircut because that is your only option on the web site, I booked two so there would be enough time for a blow dry, I still was told when I got there that they wouldn't have time. A couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday, my friend and I were eating brunch at Jeannines and I asked her to walk over to Supercuts to see how much and if they could do a blow dry, well for $50.00 she could come back tomorrow. Personally I think the employees don't want to do blow dry's because they feel they would make more in tips in doing haircuts. If this is true then they should stop advertising these services. read more
