Yesterday was my second appointment with Jesse Walcott Pell. Five months ago, Jesse freshened up the layers of my very long curly hair. Since then, I tired of my too-long locks because, most of the time, I wore them in a sloppy bun tucked under a cap. I planned all my Saturday's around washing my hair. Such tomfoolery! I was in desperate need of a new do! Jesse to the rescue! With my blessing, Jesse cut about ten inches from my hair and then layered it to showcase my natural curls. I didn't think I could be any happier. Yet, this was before Jesse enhanced my dark blonde mane with white and champagne highlights that blended with the emerging grays. I loooooove my new look! Well.. was going to just not mention anything.. but, looking at my haircut and color everyday in the mirror makes me said here something.. Not happy with neither color nor haircut done by Walter himself. First day appointment spent 4 hours with " highlights and roots color".. ending up looking like a raccoon. I was offered to come back to " lighten up" with more highlights. I spend all weekends just staying home waiting for Monday app and hoping it would get better. No, not really .. with additional highlights my hair look like " zebra" now. Can't really tell the haircut was done well ( and according to high price) other then it is shorted. Well, I had an appointment with Walter. I had and wanted long hair with layers and was very clear about it. Yet he cut to to my shoulders. I had to go to another salon to fix the cut. The worst cut ever!!! Also, Walter was aloof and rude to me during my time in the chair until a friend came over to say "Hello" then he changed his tone with me. She just happened to be rich. Really? I've been a customer of Walter Claudio's for over 10 years and am extremely confused by this kind of service. Not sure what's going on with the salon but not being able to make an appointment online or via phone has made them lose a customer. read more

I went here the other day to get a partial highlight and haircut by Dustin. I had been unhappy with my hair for months after a bad experience at another salon, and Dustin had been recommended to me after I stopped a woman in Anthropologie and asked who did her hair. I was not disappointed! Dustin was super straightforward and professional and very friendly. I'm very happy with how my hair turned out. He was assisted by Kaila, who also washed and blow dried my hair. She was very professional and personable. Made a long appointment of sitting in the chair go by much faster with her friendly attitude! I'm very happy with my entire experience at Walter Claudio. I trusted a recommendation from my sister to come here for a cut and color. She gets her hair highlighted here regularly and it always looks natural and bright. This was NOT the case in my appointment. I have dirty blonde hair with a lot of natural highlights. She put highlights in my hair that did not correspond to the natural lightness of my hair (the area framing my face). She also used a toner that made the highlights look grey, without my permission. I honestly could have done a better job with box dye. The trim was basic, an afterthought even, for how much I paid for it. I couldn't tell how awful it was until I left the salon, because of how poorly lit the studio was. The worst part of the entire experience was calling the studio to talk about the appointment. I rarely have my hair done (1x a year) and have never paid so much for such a terrible color, so I felt they needed to know. The receptionist was sweet and embarrassed for the service I received. She said she would talk to Walter to see if there was something to be done. I left my number with her and they never followed through. Its 1.5 months later and my hair is still going through a rough patch. I am thoroughly disappointed. read more

I came in on a Friday morning to get a blowout for my engagement photo shoot. I was able to get a last minute appointment just a few days before. As soon as I walked in, I was given a cup of coffee while I waited, which was greatly appreciated. The studio is clean, modern and beautiful. Candiss did my blowout and I knew I was in good hands! Walter Claudio was the first salon I tried after moving to SB. It typically holds your expected SB crowd... The girls that work there are semi friendly but a little too snobby for my taste. I saw Charlene (I think thats her name) a few times. The first was amazing. I had long semi fried hair and was ready for a change. She listened to my ideas and I put complete trust in her. She cut off around 8 inches and gave me the best cut i could ever had imagined. I loved it and then it grew. I went back a few times but each time she disappointed me. I think the worst part about having her cut my hair was that she didn't talk. It was uncomfortable silence the entire time. Try to start a convo and she'll give you a one word reply that gives you no room to respond to. However, she gave the best scalp messages and shampoos. So, after giving up on Charlene, I gave another woman a shot, her name escapes me. She butchered my hair and that was the last time I ever walked in there again. I've been going to Bamboo on W. Montecito ever since and I live in the Bay Area now. It's no where near as expensive and they know how to give me the cut i'm looking for. read more

I've had my hair cut and colored here, tried out many spa services and I think this place is mediocre. The service is quite good depending upon the person helping you. It seems like the prices are too high for what you get. The Caribbean spa therapy treatment was done by an amazing masseuse, but the treatment itself didn't leave my skin feeling any different than usual. I think I'm better off using a body scrub at home and a great body lotion for silky skin. A massage would have been a better use of time. So, I'm done with WC and moving onto another spa, any suggestions out there? read more

I had Lexie do my hair​ once years ago for a wedding in SB and she did my blonde so well that I drive every 2 months from LA to have her do my hair. You would think that sounds crazy to drive 2 hrs, but my hair is almost black and very coarse​ and curly, and everyone turns it gold! It's been too many years of no one getting it right and only Lexie can get my hair toned and ashy blonde- it's not worth the risk when it comes to hair! read more

Walter Claudio is like a high-priced factory. You start with one person, someone else takes over in the midst of the service. You sit ignored while your hair processes, and then you are washed by an assistant. If you get an addition service such as a blow dry...it will cost extra, of course and only then you will see the stylist you asked for in the first place....maybe. I prefer smaller, intimate salons where the service is personal. I won't go back to Walter Claudio. read more

After reading some of the reviews, I went to my appointment with pretty low expectations. However, I'm so happy to say that I was VERY PLEASANTLY surprised! My hair stylist was AMANDA and this girl is one of the sweetest, most talented people I've ever had the pleasure to get a haircut from. Everything she did was 10/10 for me - starting from the scalp massage to the haircut (one of the best haircuts I've gotten) to the styling of my hair. The haircut and blowout were so spectacular that when I came out to pay, my boyfriend (who's been bored out of his mind waiting for me in the waiting room) upon seeing me immediately spit out "Wow, your hair looks REALLY good!", which is something he's never said before after a haircut. I ended up liking Amanda's style so much that even though I don't live in Santa Barbara, I've already planned to go back to her for my next haircut when I'm back in town. I had high hopes for this salon but was thoroughly disappointed. I made an appointment with Ashley for a color and cut. I was in the salon for more than four hours and paid $300+. She did a very poor job applying the highlights and when I went home, I had to cut pieces of my hair that she flat out missed. I went to my original stylist a few months later and she took pictures of the back of my hair and showed me how poorly the color was applied. There were blocks of my hair that were just completely missed. I will say that the receptionist was very polite and the studio was beautiful but I was not at all pleased with the quality of my experience. This review is specifically for Jen Borchert who did my hair for my August 2009 wedding. She is amazing!! During the trial, she took the time to really listen to what I wanted, and understood that I didn't want "wedding hair" - I just wanted to look like a glammed-up version of myself. She created the EXACT look I was going for and I was so happy. I did not hesitate to book her for the wedding. My hair was something I was really stressed about because I was worried I wouldn't find someone who could do what I really wanted, so it was a huge relief to find Jen. She even reduced the price since I wasn't having a traditional updo, which she didn't have to do. She did an equally amazing job on my wedding day, and she was very relaxed, which helped me relax. She paid attention to every detail and made sure my hair looked just right. I had my hair partially up and then the rest loosely curled, and the curls held up all day and into the night - even in 98 degree heat! i also had Jen style my hair for my rehearsal dinner and it looked fantastic! I've gone back to her several times for haircuts, highlights, and blowdry/styling, and she always does a great job! read more

It is worth it to pay for a good haircut. I've also gotten my hair colored at Walter Claudio. It'll last longer, and look better toward the end. I go to Walter Claudio, as do a bunch of my pals and my boyfriend. We're all poor grad students, so it is a bit surprising that we'd all shell out the cash, but again, a good haircut is worth it. Yes, they are busy a lot of the time, but I doubt that you can get better services in SB. read more

Walter Claudio has been my favorite salon since I was in college over ten years ago. I recently moved back to the area and was thrilled to find that they are still going strong. I see Walter for highlights and haircuts, and he is (as you would expect) fabulous. I have also started getting my eyebrows waxed and my facials done there. Never Ever Again!! Disaster!! I trusted the recommendation from my wife to cut my hair here. The young girl Candice attended me was very nice, good conversation BUT, (1) she made a Disaster with my hair. I told her to not cut too much on the sides and in the back but now, Now! I look as a school boy getting bald! because my hair is thin, so there is no way to fix it. My hair was wet yesterday and then I went to the club so I didn't notice. But today, oh my God!, today in the morning! l look Horrible as a bald monster in a horror film! And I am not exaggerating. The positive thing is that I am glad I do not need to go out to a business meeting or to a family celebration otherwise I would not be able to go like this. This is a nightmare! I will go back to my stylist, at least she doesn't make this kind of disasters. (2) In their site the prices of just haircuts are $35-$45. $35 is what they charge to my wife. But they charged almost the double to just cut my hair and when my wife asked to the front desk girl "why?"(because she went with me) the girl said "it depends on the skills of the stylist". The skills of this girl is -0. This is a stultid phrase used as an excuse to charge whatever they want to charge, I payed almost the double my wife did. It has no logic. If you go to a restaurant you expect every time they charge the same for a hamburger. Even if one day they have a chef from the white house they cannot charge more. No one feels comfortable to ask for a service you never know how much they will charge for. DO NOT TAKE THE RISK!, if you have some important meeting and you get what I did, you will not even be able to go outside; and forget about your meeting or celebration. read more

I've come to this salon on a friend's recommendation because I loved her hair. The Aveda color is amazing, and everyone there is so friendly. All of the employees work like a team--there's no ego here, just skilled technicians. At first I was worried because the girl I went to first moved, but I've had several different people cut and color my hair, and it comes out awesome every time. I had previously gone to Ashley for a facial and eyebrow wax, which was amazing by the way and I had just found out she is now doing a variety of massage services, so I booked a 60 min Swedish. The massage was to die for, probably the best I have ever had especially for someone who receives massages regularly. SO RELAXING! Definitely going to come back regularly! I have been to dozens of salons all over California and Walter Claudio Salon (more specifically their stylist Travis Jay) is the best one I have ever been too. Travis gives me great color and my hair still feels smooth and thicker than before I came in! He really understands how hair absorbs color and gave me the perfect color. I have very thin hair and he has given me a couple of different cuts that all looked amazing and gave my hair shape and volume! Travis Jay has given me the best haircuts I have ever had. I trust him completely with my hair (I have never said that about anyone before). He is wonderful! I think this place would be out of business if it wasn't for the name Walter Claudio. I have been to a lot of salons and this has been, by far the worst experience. Not only I was triple booked, the stylist was not friendly, nor did she listen to my instructions, and charged me more than I've ever been charged in my life. I am not one to complain, and I'm not cheap, but I walked out of the salon unhappy, actually so unhappy I needed to come back a few days later for her to fix the highlights she decided to stick in random spots. When I returned, she had her assistant (who just finished beauty school 2 months prior) fix her mistake. The newbie actually did a better job than the veteran. Please don't waste your time or money here. Who cares about the name, Walter? He does do hair there, but of course he charges an arm and a leg for his "superior services." I have been going to this salon for over a year. Had a bad experience with a hair color this last time I went to get my roots touched up. All I can say is, even after they tried to "make everything right" they didn't. They were insincere, rushed, and have an overall lack of customer service. In the past (when people complimented my hair) I would always tell them I went to Walter Claudio and not to believe the snobby over priced reputation they seem to have. I have been to Walter Claudio on and off for over 10 years but I unfortunately had a few negative experiences as well. I was drawn back to the salon for the reasonable root touch up service. The first time Walter himself did my hair. I hadn't been there in over 5 years. He didn't consult with me. Just went back and whipped up some random color I had from my file that I must have used I don't even know how many years ago. It turned out much MUCH darker then my current hair. I had just spent a ton of money at another salon for highlights so this was upsetting. I returned and went to another stylist this time and made sure he knew to consult me first. That I want my 'current' root color matched, not the one from 5+ years ago. He did a decent job the first time but when I went in for the 3rd time it was a disaster. He slopped on the color haphazardly getting it all over my neck, ears, forehead and He went way too far up my hair shaft (just wanted roots). They send a private survey as a follow up and I left my experience privately. Walter followed up with me and told me my stylist received tragic news earlier that day and offered me a free highlight. I said I was interested but that was the last I heard. Probably for the best. I went to salon patine and got my highlights re done and am really happy. Before this experience I once had balayage here and mid treatment the girl told me she was still learning and it was only her 2nd time. Obviously it turned out horrible. Fair to say I had some good experiences here too long ago but when you have some really bad ones it just really throws you off because it's not consistent. read more

I do not recommend this salon. I had a haircut first. The stylist was bored, unhelpful, distracted and gave me a poor haircut. Then I had color and without doubt it is the biggest color disaster I have ever had. A different stylist this time did not listen and apparently did not look at me. Even when I said the color was too dark she carried on darkening it further. She called a senior stylist over who was the one who picked a color that makes my skin grey and has aged me 10 yrs. The place is gloomy, the staff I have met seem to be inexperienced and lacking in any talent. After years of driving by the studio on State Street and my stylist skipping town, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I booked an appointment and showed up on time to the address listed all over the web on State Street. Opps, apparently they moved a while ago to Figueroa Street, and have not updated any of the sites online touting their name. If I a local don't even know where they are, what the hell? Anyway, after an hour of sitting with K from HI, I walked out feeling mildly satisfied, but feeling I was being bled like a stuck pig from the price of simple men's cut, no product required, and no blow dry. I got home, and did what every guys does, shower away the endless bits of hair, and then looked to primp a bit in the mirror. Holy Crap! He missed clipping around my whole right ear? What the F***? I just opened a mortal wound on my neck with my Credit Card, and now I have shitty ear bangs? Come on! In this new economy, I think I will stoop to finding an old time barber with twirling pole and just pop by every couple of weeks instead of gouging my eyes out at the reception desk, and then at home in the mirror. read more

But in the business world, it is always important to look well groomed -- and Erin, always makes sure that I leave looking sharp and ready to attack the business world.
