So, crazy wind storm in the hills above Los Angeles and my retractable awning broke. Called this company after the Yelp reviews. On the first call, a woman was super helpful. I called back and the same woman was even more helpful. She asked me to get the make of the awning, which I did. When a called back a few days later, 2/10/15, another woman answered. She refused to send a technician out to my house in the Hollywood Hills to see what the problem was. Said they don't do repairs. When I told her that maybe the entire awning would need to be replaced, she perked up and asked for my address. I said no thank you and called another company. Opportunity is out there. I interviewed 5 awning companies before I decided to go with Superior Awning. However, I chose Superior because after conducting in-depth research I discovered that Superior's products and warranties are better than most of their competitors. They use a German rectracable unit and Tenera Gortex thread, which has a lifetime warranty. Many other awning companies do not offer lifetime warranties. Superior's estimate was competitive and given the fact that their product was "superior," I decided to go with them. They also have awesome customer service. I had a minor issue that they promptly and cheerfully took care of. They are a family owned business and their attitude is "the customer is always right," which is not as prevalent these days as it should be. First I would like to say that my first impression of Superior Awning was stellar. They were very responsive in coming out to give an estimate and completed the project in a timely matter. The shade structure was a beautiful addition to the front of our preschool. What happened next, after having the awning just over a year, was a nightmare. It ended up that a truck hit the structure and pushed it over. Problem was that the awning (16x20) was blocking our front entrance gate. This was not only dangerous, but in the way. I could not get any help from Superior until I had a structural engineer step in to communicate on our behalf. This is the only reason after a very frustrating couple of months we have our awning back in place. I don't know if they are chauvinistic or just don't care about anyone once their initial job is done. I will never recommend this company to anyone because life happens and if it does, you can't get them to help you. read more

I seldom write any reviews however, I feel it's necessary to write a review for superior awning. I called and scheduled an appointment to build a slide wire cable awning. Ken arrived on time and gave me valuable advise on what would work best for the size of my yard and took the time to listen to what I wanted. I was unsure on what color of awning I wanted. Just a few words to let all know how happy I am with my experience with Superior Awning. Even though this was a small job - just an awning over a side door, I felt I was given the attention that a huge job would merit. I called the company & a rep named Jeremy was out to see me 2 days later - and 3 minutes before the scheduled time! Very friendly & efficient. He understood just what I wanted. I received samples of fabric patterns & colors to choose from. Tara was very helpful in scheduling an installation date. The installers were out - right on time (very impressive). They were skilled, fast and left the work area spotless. Everything done in just a couple of weeks. I am comfortable paying a little more for great service. The other company didn't take the time to come and give me a proper estimate and instead took measurements over the phone. After years of wanting to add sunbrella curtains to enclose our covered patio, we found Superior Awning. When we visited, we knew more or less what we wanted, but we didn't know how it all worked. Kyle introduced himself right away and asked us about our project. He then showed us examples of what might work. Little did we know that Kyle would actually manage the entire process for us, visiting our home to put together the estimate, patiently making revisions as we modified our choices, making himself available by phone anytime always with a cheerful attitude, accompanying the workmen during measurements to make sure all the details were clearly understood, and introducing us to the installers, and following up with final touches we wanted after the curtains were installed. Everything went smoothly and according to the schedule Kyle gave us on our first meeting. We are highly pleased with the way we were guided through the project start to finish and look forward to having Superior Awning apply additional awnings to dress up the exterior of our home now that we see the possibilities and how easy it is to get it done. read more

Ken did a great job with the initial design and meeting our budget. We appreciated his advice and professionalism on the front end. Unfortunately we had a poor initial installation of the awning that left us feeling very unsatisfied. That first crew was unsupervised, and I don't know names but I would guess they were less experienced based on the sloppy job. They left the fabric with several large paint marks (probably from painting the frame on site and not allowing sufficient time for the paint to dry), damaged the wall during installation, and did not do a thorough job cleaning up-- leaving dirt marks on the wall and small metal sharp shards all over our driveway. The sharp metal shards was particularly disappointing as we have a 2 year old daughter who was running around the driveway when we discovered them and she could have easily fallen and gotten seriously hurt. I immediately called and complained once I saw the dirty fabric and damaged walls. It was a Friday afternoon, and unfortunately it took a week and a half for them to fix the damage and replace the fabric, but at the end of it all we were satisfied with the second installation. The second crew that came out was very professional, fixed the damage left by the first crew, and cleaned up well after themselves. That was the service we were expecting the first time around and I would have given Superior Awnings 5 stars based on the final installation and on initial interactions with Ken, but due to the frustration and delay caused by the first installation I have to take a star off. I do appreciate the customer service we received in fixing the situation and eventually things were taken care of to our satisfaction. read more

And any problem we had after it was installed, they came back and fixed immediately - so fantastic follow-up, as well. Their ideas and suggestions were good and we did end up adding some options that we didn't set out for but are happy with the choices. They were pleasant, professional and mostly on schedule. Despite the good grades here, this is one of the most unprofessional staff I have ever hired. Maybe I caught them during a bad month. I'm not sure. But if you choose to work with this company, be prepared to experience any of the following: impolite front desk, absent sales reps, inflexible scheduling, slow responses and PROFANITY WRITTEN ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS ON WORK ORDERS. When confronted about any of the above, their response was "this is how we do things" and "we will not be issuing an apology". I found a much better alternative out there. My designer in Pasadena recommended Superior Awning for my estate near the Rose Bowl. Ken came and measured and his team came back a second time to measure again just to make sure everything was correct. My awnings were not part of the original design and I let Ken know my architect did not want them but in order to secure the warrantee on my windows I had to have them. The install was extremely tight. He designed them to be almost invisible when looking at them from my back yard. My architect was extremely impressed with their work.
