The installation crew was scheduled to come out last Thursday, November 10, 2022 between 11 and 2. (They did not arrive until around 5:00 p.m.). The installation crew said that they could not install the long window cover because it would flap in the wind; they had never installed a cover so long. They also said that they could not install the shorter cover over the upper windows above the patio because they had no access due to the solar panels on the patio cover. (I suggested scaffolding.) The estimator and an installer came out two times to measure and review the installation before furnishing the quotation. So.... What is going on? It has been nearly a week and not one person has reached out to me regarding my installation. Further, the estimator and his installer knew the restrictions and the details of the installations based on at least two visits to my home. Also, the crew was going to install surface mount conduit to power the motors, which is not acceptable and was not disclosed. I have reached out, and not one word from Superior Awning to resolve this installation. I remain hopeful that this installation will be resolved. That was then... this is now. Although we waited a week, the crew returned with one less person. And what a huge difference! The crew arrived with a "can do" attitude. The installation went perfectly! They also brought a separate custom made bracket to support the very wide and long shade (roughly 20' x 20'). The installation looks good, functions well, and the electrical connections to the motors was run through the attic and is barely noticeable from the exterior of the home. Very highly recommended! Would be a five star, except for the disconnects with the initial installation crew. read more

All's well that ends well, but man, talk about an up and down ride. If you're reading this, you probably need a patio cover or awning of some kind and all I can say is good luck. After getting a few quotes for a super basic patio cover (like, a square, lol), I went with Superior Awning (prices are crazy high right now for all patio covers/companies and you're going to wait a while for install, so be ready for that). I received some very high quotes, dealt with some squirrely owners/sales reps and I ended up going with Superior because they were transparent and didn't use creepy sales tactics. In a nutshell, you're paying insulated patio cover prices now a days, but you get a super basic, flimsy cover because everything costs more and takes longer (based on the quotes I received before/after covid). After the initial appointment, I was told a final measurement would be completed and then was told it wasn't necessary (because it was freestanding ?!?!?) and that's when things went south. I indicated what i wanted the footprint to be and where the overhangs would go (and figured any questions would be addressed during the measurement appointment, which was cancelled), but the first install was long on one end, the next install was long on the other end and the third attempt got the length right (after they came out and took measurements), but other items were off (I wanted a freestanding cover away from the house, but I got a freestanding cover that was bumping up against my gutters with a silicone bead between the surfaces). Oh and it's always nice when the workers tell you that your sales rep always messes things up and this is kind of normal ... no way to confirm this, but it was definitely said. There was also damage to my gutters that I have since fixed on my own. Fun stuff. I basically knocked off a star for each of the terrible install attempts and one more for the hassle of the 3rd install and the time it took to complete. Everything worked out in the end, but it took 4 months and it wasn't much fun not having a patio cover for the summer (we tore the old one down in the spring). It definitely didn't need to go this way either... I've dealt with entire home renovations and yard makeovers and those were way less of a headache than this patio cover. All in all, the cover is fine... it's a dinky aluminum cover that was way overpriced (over $6k), but that's 2022, but if I had it to do over again with what I know now, I'd probably just go on wayfair or order a kit somewhere else online and save my time and money and do it myself or hire a local handy man for a weekend gig. If you have a good drill and an angle grinder, you won't need much else. Good luck and hopefully you're reading this years and years after 2022 and you got the cover you wanted at a price you felt good about. read more

I would have given this business five stars, except I did have a major issue with their scheduling and communication. I had motorized shades installed on my balcony. Superior Awning did everything, from the materials to the electrical work. First, let me say that the final result is extraordinary, and the guys who came out to do the work were professional, respectful, and knowledgeable (Michael, Ricky, Julio, Ray, Jordan). Brett, who is the salesman and came out to do the original proposal, was delightful and thorough. Alex came out to take measurements, and while he was nice, his measurements were off and certain metal framing pieces had to be re-made. Whoever did the cutting of the screen material in the Van Nuys HQ did the wrong size TWICE, and the poor guys had to take down the awnings and have the screens re-cut both times. All of the workers told me they had informed the man doing the cutting of the correct size, but apparently "he knew better," except he apparently did not. What was supposed to be a one or two day job turned into four - not because my balcony is a funky shape (it's really not so much), but because the measurements were off on the framing and screening, so they had to keep redoing. This brings me to scheduling. First, my deposit for $1900 was made into their accounts on July 3rd. I was told the work would be in three or four weeks. At five weeks out, I called the office to see what was up. I was told the materials weren't in yet, but within the next few days I was given an install date. OK, no huge deal...yet. And I hate that I had to make that call. I took the day off for the installation, only to be called THAT DAY (mid-day) that the guys would not make it out and we had to reschedule. Subsequently, EVERY SINGLE TIME the guys were scheduled to come out, I was told that I was "the only customer these workers have today," and that "they'll be out after they check in and get the materials at the office, which opens at 8am." First, I'd be told by Regina either "first thing," then that would change to between 10am and 12pm, then, at either 1:30 or 2:30pm, the guys would finally show up. All this shuffling after I told Regina that I'm not always home - I have to take time off to be home (and I live alone). I even heard on their final visit that "we are so busy, but they'll try to get out at the end of the day," only to be heading out for an appointment at 10:45am - and they are at my door! I had to pay for an 11am appointment I then missed... To make every single time worse - I was the one who had to call and find out what was going on. I was not kept informed and I was given bad info on every single visit. If Regina and the office had better coordination with the workers, and they provided better (and more accurate) information to me, I would have given Superior Awning a five-star rating. I would definitely recommend this company, but be forewarned that you may be taking extra days off... read more

Sales rep Marcel came out on Wednesday and not only gave me a wonderful, clear description of all my options, but also made sure I would have installation two days later, on Friday. This is unheard of! All the other companies I called said turnaround time was 2-3 weeks. In addition, Marcel checked in with me throughout the weekend to see how the shade was working out. Recently a defect in the fabric developed over time so that it started to rip and have thinning crazing spots. I have a pergola with an outdoor fan, so I knew my options were limited. After some research, I found that the slide-on-wire type of patio covering might be an option. I went on Yelp and requested a quote from four companies. Two of them never responded. One place told me the slide-on-wire was not possible due to the fan and gave me an alternate based on pictures I sent them. Then there was Devon from Superior Awning. He was the only person that was willing to stop by my home in Tustin to really take a look. He came donning a face mask and followed social distancing rules. He gave me several options but also told me the slide-on-wire was possible. After putting in the deposit, it was about a 4-week wait (due to supply issues from Covid) until it was finally installed. On install day, Daniel and another friendly worker came by. These guys were very professional and the work that was done was phenomenal It's probably safe to say that the metal hardware that holds the canopy in place will probably last longer than my wooden pergola. After about 3 hours, I walked outside to take a look, and I was very happy with what I saw. I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" really applied here.
