We called Superior Awning in desperate need of replacing the old shade covering for our west facing back patio, the only barrier between our living room glass doors and the intense afternoon sun. We were in the peak of summer at the time, so It was understandably one of our top priorities. My husband suggested that I can be rigid and "hard to work with" (is it a crime to have high standards?!) when it comes to working with home improvement contractors, so naturally we started this out with some degree of apprehension. Over a decade ago I installed a custom designed awning, by "AAwnings of Distinction", above my front door, and this time I wanted to add more awnings above my windows.  Using the same fabric and details of the original awning, Superior Awning by far had the best price. Their sales rep. Ken was very professional and responsive. He came out again with a tech. to make measurements and check details of the existing awning. The awnings were fabricated in a very timely manner, and the installation team did a great job, even though they were hanging on tall ladders in a difficult situation. As I indicated, my awnings were custom designed, in addition I have very high standards, and a keen eye for details, some things needed adjustments, so I communicated with their manager Julio who was extremely helpful. The representative that came out was very nice however how the installation would look was not to my desire. Because of the power supply was not at the exact location where the awning would be they would have to run a cord to my outlet in our patio which I couldn't imagine how nice that would look. My goodness, this was a difficult experience. 1. They tried to install a pergola with severely damaged aluminum - it was very dinged and damaged. I had to tell them to come back with product that was not banged up. 2. They installed a retractable and didn't tell me they failed to install the wind sensor which was part of, and paid for, with the contract. Thank goodness I manually shut the awning, because there were high winds - and NO retraction. I wrote and they never responded, but when another crew came out to do another awning I said "show me the wind sensor" - and, there was none! Yikes. 3. On another patio, they said they would install the cover but "would probably bend the existing beams". Really? You are going to ruin the existing support while replacing the covers? Yikes. No one would agree to have the patio "bent" while putting on a new cover. 4. Also: I had a patio installed six years ago and they said "we have never seen fabric fade so poorly, we think you got a bad batch and there is nothing we can do because we don't use that vendor any longer". The patio was so difficult to open and shut - even the Superior employees struggled with it. Not sure why I proceeded with them after this bad experience. Will definitely look for another company next time I need replacements or improvements. 5. Sloppy accounting. Overcharged me $2,500. I had to show them what the agreed upon contracts were for and what I had paid. Fortunately it was fixed, but goodness, what an ending to a painful experience. read more

The installation crew was scheduled to come out last Thursday, November 10, 2022 between 11 and 2. (They did not arrive until around 5:00 p.m.). The installation crew said that they could not install the long window cover because it would flap in the wind; they had never installed a cover so long. They also said that they could not install the shorter cover over the upper windows above the patio because they had no access due to the solar panels on the patio cover. (I suggested scaffolding.) The estimator and an installer came out two times to measure and review the installation before furnishing the quotation. So.... What is going on? It has been nearly a week and not one person has reached out to me regarding my installation. Further, the estimator and his installer knew the restrictions and the details of the installations based on at least two visits to my home. Also, the crew was going to install surface mount conduit to power the motors, which is not acceptable and was not disclosed. I have reached out, and not one word from Superior Awning to resolve this installation. I remain hopeful that this installation will be resolved. That was then... this is now. Although we waited a week, the crew returned with one less person. And what a huge difference! The crew arrived with a "can do" attitude. The installation went perfectly! They also brought a separate custom made bracket to support the very wide and long shade (roughly 20' x 20'). The installation looks good, functions well, and the electrical connections to the motors was run through the attic and is barely noticeable from the exterior of the home. Very highly recommended! Would be a five star, except for the disconnects with the initial installation crew. read more

Overall, we are thrilled with our awnings. After some initial delays and issues, the company responded quickly and decisively with a very reasonable remedy. The end result is just what we hoped for - a simple, clean and elegant look that's also highly functional.
