This location has really gone downhill, specifically when it comes to to cleanliness. I walk in craving some pan dulce (Mexican bread) and left disgusted. As soon as an approach the pan dulce area that is enclosed behind clear doors, it was filled with flies. Some dead and at least 4 flying around. This was just in the one cabinet. The crazy thing is that 2 employees were there. How can you not see this? I was so grossed out and just left. I could not do the rest of my shopping. This is so sad, because we rely on stores like Superior in our community. Please do better for our community. For now, I cannot return. With all the increase disease that flies and other flying insects are carrying we need to be on top of this. I hope management team take this review serious for the health and wellbeing of its community members that shop there. I'm Mexican, but never really visit many Mexican markets. I was in need of a market in general, mostly for the produce section because I was tasked to make a fruit salad. When I walked in, it was very clean and cultural. Loved it. The produce was straight ahead so I knew it wouldn't take long to get the 3 things I needed. The watermelon and cantelope were right next to each other, but the honeydew took some time to search for, but I eventually found it. Got in and out fairly quick since the place was empty. Strange for about 5pm in the afternoon. There were things they looked interesting like little jugs of Agua fresca. Gotta come back and grab a few. read more

Breakfast platter from the hot foods section in the morning is exceptional. For 7 bucks, I got about 2 cups of scrambled eggs, 6 tortillas, beans, and rice. I usually spend more at Starbucks (in the same plaza) and end up hungry and angry. Customer service booth: you can send money to Mexico at Superior. How cool is that! Unfortunately I wasn't able to wait due to the 8 people in line ahead of me who were all purchasing lotto and scratchers. Food service is inconsistent and extremely slow. They have offered plate lunches but depending on the day and whos working youre choices will vary. If You speak Spanish theyll do anything for you, but if you dont, they just dont give you the same service. So id rather not patronize a place that actively discriminates against non spanish speakers. The grocery box staff with empty boxes rush for the main walking aisle. Worker is more important than customer mood. The self service pay station barcode scanner does not read barcode on grocery. Many groceries do not have barcode to scan. The barcode scanner only reads a few manufacturer bar code on plastic. read more

Ok I am not sure of the low reviews, but I am rating this solely based on convenience. It is located near Marshalls, has a Starbucks nearby, Menchies, and Wing Stop. That alone is a lot of places you can stop by in one stop. I usually go to El Monte or East LA (Boyle Heights) locations, and the parking is ridiculously packed. I cringed at the thought of worrying my car is going to get clipped by a car or a cart when I'm there. When I shopped around 10:30am Thursday, parking was pretty clear and there was hardly a line at the registers. Everything I wanted was in stock. I would definitely come back if I'm nearby! read more

Never coming back to this location the manager David Dobson is very rude and has a bad attitude what a way to set an example to your employees on how to interact with your customers or 3rd party (vendors) who are coming to do their job. David is unwilling to answer a couple of questions so the vendor can't complete the job 100 percent. If you dislike your job maybe you shouldn't be in customer service David. My first time going into Superior. Never realized their grocery selections was so abundant! Walking in they have an office where you can pay your utility bills... probably to serve people without internet access. Then walking further in, there are a variety of tortillas and beverages that are on sale. Great prices! The supermarket was very busy even during the week in the afternoon. It feels like a flea market with so much stock everywhere along with all its shoppers. The fruits and vegetables section was clean unlike some of the Chinese markets. Fresh fruits at a significant savings, vegetables neatly stacked, as it's very organized. They have varieties of frozen foods that's less expensive than Walmart. A large selection of cold alcoholic beverages that's better than Ralph's. Anyhow, sorry to compare with the other franchises. But Superior Grocers is indeed superior with their astonishing inventory minus the Costco bulk. I wish there was one closer to home. But at least this location is close to my office. Sometimes we make the short drive to Superior Grocers in South El Monte because they have great sales. This supermarket is quite busy and clean with predominantly Hispanic and Asian shoppers. This store is well stocked with plenty of Mexican groceries as well as the everyday grocery items at good prices. They also have good selection of Mexican bakery items, love those Mexican rolls and sweets! The produce is fresh and priced right. As soon as you enter the market, they have a decent hot foods counter on the right (fried chicken) and they also sell tortillas really cheap. We buy our pork chorizo here at Superior. Recently, we've also picked up some great buys such as Philadelphia Cream Cheese for $1.25 (for baking), Celeste pizzas ($0.99), and bananas 3 lbs for $1 (I've seen as low as bananas 4 lbs for $1). At the checkout, it's bag your own groceries. read more

I've been to this location close to two dozen times over the last several years. Parking is very tight it's better to park near the end of the parking lot so no one thinks your doors. The carts that you use could be a little cleaner. Bakery and produce section's are excellent prices on the items are very good. Check out system seems slow and could be faster. Many people who visit the store and who work at the store speak Spanish at times I feel there is a language barrier. Clean market with awesome bakery and produce section! Upon walking in you'll be welcomed by the smells from the bakery. They also sell small bouquets of flowers for $7.99-$10.99. I normally come here for the avocados which are sold either 4 or 3 for $0.99! They're small and I haven't come across a time where I couldn't find ripe ones. On another occasion I've found corn 3 for $0.99 too! Their meat department has a relatively good selection with decent prices as well. One rather strange thing I noticed was the little jewelry store right at the exit. Kind of random! *pro tip- don't over pack your plastic bags. I did that once and all my corn ripped out of my bag and came tumbling out in the parking lot :( read more

I was there on a Sunday afternoon and they did not provide enough cashiers. Many of the customers were elderly and they had to stand in line for more than 20 torturous minutes. The manager never made an effort to add additional checkers. I recommend that no one patonize that market until they make corrections to their management style. Moreover, it is my belief that because it is in a low income area the folks there are not entitled to better service. read more

Superior is one of the closest supermarkets to my house. The produce is always fresh and they have great prices. The workers are constantly refilling fruits and veggies. I love their bakery section. They have the most delicious chocolate cakes. My only complaint is the lines are always very long. There's usually only 2 or 3 open. They need more cashiers and registers for 5 items and under. 10 items can take forever too! I love that they open early and I can just drop by to pick up baked goods before work. read more

They sell rotten meat here! People check your meat before leaving or don't shop here. Yesterday, my husband and I bought 7 lbs of boneless chicken leg meat (not marinated). We are on a budget and do not get EBT so we buy meat to last us all week. When we got home, I noticed the chicken had a funky smell to it. Then when my husband was cutting up the chicken it still smelled bad. As my husband continued to cut up the meat, he found a GREEN piece of moldy chicken! It literally made us gag and stunk up our car as we drove back to inform their management that they are selling GREEN meat! My husband requested to speak to a manager said he was going to call the health dept. for selling meat like this. I requested a refund. Even the manager said it smelled bad and she knew we had a bad experience so she would not ask us if we wanted more chicken. The manager informed someone from their meat dept. and all he had to say was that it was a fresh shipment yesterday at 530 pm but that box of chicken might have had the wrong date. Really! This was not the first time we observed unsanitary practices at this store. On a prior visit, there were flies buzzing around the meat counter. We also noticed two bags on meat that were left in random places (in front of the meat counter and by the register). I wonder if they still would sell those! A few months ago, we purchased the 99 cents non-Oscar Meyer lunchable (I believe it was Eckrich)and my husband noticed that the lunch meat was GREEN! Also the City of South El Monte needs to do something about the safety if this Superior Shopping Center! Sadly, there are many panhandlers that beg for money and homeless people that camp out behind the shopping center. People even speed through the parking lot! We did get our refund for the foul-smelling chicken and we are no longer shopping there! It is sad that my family and I have to shop outside South El Monte to purchase quality meat and produce rather than shop in our own community. read more

I've been coming here since it used to be located where CVS is now. Since the move, the market has gotten much cleaner and more organized, and it has better parking too! I find the produce here to be relatively cheap, with a few seasonal items rotated weekly that are dirt cheap (a 10 lb watermelon for a buck, 5 ears of corn for a buck...etc). I also buy Jarritos drinks here- they have lots of variety! I've yet to try the prepared foods or the marinated meats, but they smell and look delicious every time I walk by! read more
