My experience with Superior Paving Systems was outstanding from the first time I met Art, the owner, to the last day. We installed a sitting wall about 110 linear feet around my pool deck. Art never pressured me to go one direction or another with the materials. He worked within our budget as well as my ideas, and then gave me options from styles to color for the ledger stone and stone cap. At one critical point, Art even suggested a better quality option within our budget for the ledger stone than the original one I picked because he wanted us to be happy with the final product. He always told me that he would treat our home like his own, and wanted us to be happy with their work. This wasn't just sales talk because the crew was very meticulous by lining construction paper over all the common walk areas of the entire pool and put a pool cover on the pool so it would not get dirty from the construction for the entire period. We could not be happier with the attention to detail. Art's communication with me was outstanding throughout the entire process, and he was always straight forward with all of the costs. We had 1,000 sq/ft of pavers that were laid incorrectly by a previous contractor, on top of that, we tried to do a diy sealer job that we completely botched. Art recommended we replace the ruined pavers, install new ones and then sand and seal. The quote was very reasonable so we went for it. His crew came out here and banged it out in 2 and a half days. On top of that, they fixed other little issues we had in other areas of the yard. Our backyard finally looks like it should have from the get go. Thanks Art and crew. A few additional comments. Our project was completed and we love it. Unfortunately, the painter carelessly dumped a paint cleaner on the pavers near one of the surfce drains and stained the pavers. Mr. Rodriguez's crew tried to clean the discolored pavers, but no success. They replaced all discolored pavers at NO CHARGE TO ME! This was not their problem, but they did it anyway. I had a great experience working with Superior Paving Systems, as well as with Art (the owner) and his crews. I would fully recommend them to anyone looking for driveway or hard-scape work. I had an old, broken up concrete driveway, plus some poured slabs and other parts of my back yard, replaced with interlocking pavers. The crews showed up on schedule, were amazingly fast and conscientious - very concerned to make sure I was satisfied - and did great work. When I changed or asked them to rework a couple of details, Art was very flexible, with no back pressure or grumbling. Of the several bids I got, Superior's price was in a group which I thought were reasonable and the most credible, within ~3% of each other. When Art left after the first meeting, I thought "I got the right feeling from him, I should just hire Superior and not waste any more time." Art and team just finished our driveway & front yard, and we're so happy with the end result. The crew did such detailed work and came back several times to finish little details. They made sure that everything was perfect, and that we were happy with the finished project. They ended up doing more details than what we had agreed upon, to make sure we were satisfied with everything, and it looks great. Art is a great guy, very reliable, which is not always easy to find when working with contractors. We felt like we trusted him right away, and he explained everything to us upfront. We contacted Superior Paving Systems after getting quotes from a couple of other paving companies. Price-wise, their quote was in the middle. We chose Superior Paving because we felt very comfortable working with the owner, Art Rodriguez. We believe in supporting local family-owned businesses and trusted his emphasis on quality. We were looking to replace our old, cracked concrete driveway and front porch with concrete pavers. Art provided a quote along with several design suggestions, including a raised patio and landscaping. We ultimately decided to go with the raised patio but elected to do the landscaping ourselves. Because he had another job starting in the area, Art's crews were able to start work almost immediately. To our amazement, they were able to finish the entire job in about 2.5 days over Labor Day weekend. We are extremely happy with the work. Many neighbors have stopped and commented on how great the pavers look. We are also quite impressed with the level of service provided by Art and his crews. They were very friendly and considerate and always cleaned up as much as possible at the end of the day. The only slight problem we had was a stained area that got sealed in at the end of the job. But as soon as we brought this to Art's attention, he sent a crew out right away to remove the stained pavers and replace them. The area looks as good as new. I contracted with Superior Paving twice, once around 5 years ago and again in late 2017. In both instances, Superior Paving's work involved hardscaping and landscaping my back yard. The contract price for the earlier work was around $44,000 and $82,000 for the recent work. Art Rodriguez indicated to me that the total of $126,000 was the largest job he had undertaken. I would rate both jobs as excellent in terms of the quality, pricing and timing. Friends in our Los Altos neighborhood have been effusive in their praise of how our backyard turned out. Interestingly, when we recently had our home appraised for insurance purposes, the real estate agent indicated that our makeover of the backyard added at least $200,000 to the home's value. Subsequent to the completion of the 2017 job, we noticed three items that were problematic which Art corrected with no charge to us. I would strongly recommend Superior Paving to anyone who wants quality work done at a competitive price. My project with Art started with ~1200 sq.ft of pavers for the driveway and ~500 sq.ft concrete for my son's basketball court. He gave me a good deal to add landscaping in the front yard as well. All of this was completed with perfection and within the timeline Art gave me. Juan and his team did great with pavers. Miguel and his team did good with the front landscaping. While this work was happening I decided to add-on some more items: Driveway gate (metal frame and wood frame), and picket fence. This work took longer than Art's timeline but that was partly due to my change order of adding motors to the gate. Fair enough! Miguel and his team did a good job with the driveway gate. He made the gate per my exact specifications (distance of gate to posts, gate height, gate design, motors etc). Overall, I was very satisfied with Art's work. It was very frustrating though when you spend time with somebody and you're hoping you have found the right person to do a large project with (my project is more than $50k at least) but they never get back to you with an estimate and never returned any of your calls or emails! Art is extremely unprofessional and provides lowest possible customer service after he secures your business. I moved forward with a project with him and he did not complete the project despite full payment. I checked the California Licensing Board Website- CSLB (his license number 938944) and found multiple violations under the complaints disclosure section. He was under disciplinary action, his license was revoked, and he was fined by the state. I wish I was aware of all these info prior to signing up the project with him. Future customers, please do your due diligence. He will come across as very knowledgeable. But once he secures your business, you will experience multiple delays, scope increases, and eventual incompletion of your project. Simply review the detailed complaints, and the court reports on the state board website and you will never move forward with this unprofessional business! read more

This review is strictly based on service. I've tried to get Superior paving to give me a quote on some work at my house, but haven't had any luck. Went to their office in Campbell, but the doors were locked, so I called the 800 # and left a message. After not getting any response, I tried calling a second time, and finally got Art the owner on the line. He seemed extremely nice and eager to give me a quote, so we set a time to meet at the house. After waiting an hour without hearing from him, I finally gave up. Based on the 2 other reviews, it looks like they know their business, but their customer service seems to be in need of a tune up. read more

Superior Paving Systems by Art Rodriguez has just finished the landscape project on my home yesterday, putting pavers in the side and backyard and walkway and lawn in the front yard. He subcontracted my project out to a subcontractor (who did a wonderful job on the landscape) while managed to stay on top of things so I had no problem with that at all. However, the way he handled the payments for his subcontractor and supplier needed lots of improvement. If it didn't negatively impact me in anyway, I wouldn't have any problem. In this case, I paid Art according to my contract (amount to around 2/3 of the total payment by the first 3,4 days of work) but the subcontractor and his crew stopped working for 2 days during the duration of the projects. I found out that it was because the subcontractor wasn't paid according to their subcontract. How Art handled his subcontractors is none of my business but it delayed my projects a few days due to this issue. Then, about 2 weeks into the project, I received a 20-day preliminary notice from the paver supplier that they hasn't been paid for the pavers delivered for my project and they have the right to put a mechanic lien on my home. This is when I was upset because I don't deserve any of this when I made all my payments on time according to the contract but Art didn't pay the supplier and subcontractor on time. He explained that they are due to misunderstanding between the parties and promised me that everything will be taken care of to my satisfaction at the end of the project. On the last week of the project, I was surprised by the news that my pavers won't be sealed because it wasn't stated in the contract even though Art verbally told me when and how it will be sealed. We even picked out the seal type when choosing our pavers. I was told that normally sealer is included but my project is run on such a low profit, I now have to pay extra for it. I felt cheated because I was led to believe that sealing is part of doing pavers just like the gravel he has to put under the pavers and the sand between the pavers. Sand and foundation gravel wasn't explicitly stated in the contract (but was done anyway) and so should the sealer. If it wasn't meant to be included, why did we picked the sealer in the first place? After some arguing, he agreed to seal the paver for me at no extra charge. Last Monday, we were supposed to meet at 5PM to finalize the project. He was supposed to give me the releases of any potential mechanic liens from the subcontractor and supplier and I will give him the last payment. Around 11AM, I called the supplier to check if they were paid or not to find out that they still hadn't been paid. Then Art called me to postpone our final meeting to either Thursday or Friday (TBD) since his payment to the supplier was made by non-certified fund and needs a few days to clear. Then Thursday morning, the supplier called me directly (since they now got my phone number from my Monday call) said that they haven't received any check from Art at all. I was worried because of the inconsistency in the story from both sides but still believe Art will take care of it. Later that afternoon, Art left me a message blaming me for calling the supplier too often and strained his relationship with them. It wasn't my fault to begin with. If he handled it correctly since the beginning, I wouldn't get the 20-day notice. Now with the potential mechanic liens on my home, as a homeowner, I have the right and the need to make sure that this notice was handled appropriately so I called the supplier ONCE to check. That's not too much. The 2nd call was from the supplier to me. Everything was eventually taken care of by 5PM Friday (yesterday) and I got all the releases I need and Art got his final payment. In conclusion, I am happy with the price he charged and the quality of the landscape that has been done on my home even though the project was completed 1 week behind schedule. If it wasn't for the liens and payment problems at the end and the sealer incident, it would be a pleasant experience and a 5-star review. I still think Superior Paver System is worth doing business with because I do see Art was trying his best to make his client happy and finished what was stated in the contract. However, make sure all the details were clearly stated in the contract and not verbally (or it won't be done), and also make sure the supplier was paid on time to avoid the notice like I got. read more

From the moment he saw my yard, he had a vision for exactly what I wanted. We contacted Superior Paving for an estimate on doing an extension of our driveway, to continue the pavers we already had for an additional 15' or so. Art came out within 45 minutes of my initial phone call to estimate the job. We were impressed with his professionalism and happy with the competitive estimate that he provided. His team started the job about a week or so later, and we couldn't be happier with the results. The guys were punctual, polite, clean and super cooperative. We were also re-structuring an existing block wall, and Art was great about working with us to understand what we wanted and had his guys tear the wall partially down three different times in order to please us. We were so happy with their work product that when we found out that they build fences and gates, we then had them build two extra large gates for us to complete the project. I got 5 quotes for a new paver driveway and walk and landscaping my front yard. Superior Paving Systems walked me through the process and informed me how they are laid, prepared and finished. Art was on top of my project from beginning to end. He was here every morning and often during the day to follow up on my project. He gave me great leads on places to go to look at pavers and recommendations of jobs he has done to look at. I went to all of them. His crew was fantastic to work with. They worked very hard for 2 weeks straight. They also replaced all of my fences and spoke with my neighbors about the fences and sharing the cost. Two of my neighbors got their gates replaced as well. Art kept me informed every step of the way daily. Art cares so much about his customers that when my husband and I went to a wholesale nursery and they wouldn't give me the discount unless Art was there, Art came right away to the nursery and helped us choose some great plants and hauled them home for us. I wrote a review on Superior Paving Systems back in 2011 when Art and his crew turned our backyard into a beautiful retreat! Well, we had Art and his crew back in May, 2012 to remove all the cement in our front yard and pave it to match our backyard. We were concerned about getting it done before our son's wedding that took place on the first Sunday of June. We were hosting some parties at our home and didn't want our guests walking through a construction site! Art assured us that he would have the job done in plenty of time for our first party...and HE DID! Once again, a beautiful job done and in a very timely manner.
